This was one of the most entertaining skits I’ve seen in a long time. Emma Stone is brilliant. Her lip sync session with Jimmy Fallon I have watched 10 times.
The concept of this sketch is comedy gold and could NOT be more well executed. Emma Stone’s acting is unbelievable. Her facial expressions, physicality, she is so talented and so good at this type of unhinged performance. The supporting players are also incredible. This sketch is perfection. I was crying with laughter. Emmy please.
This sketch was about Mama Cass and it didn't have one joke about her weight. Extraordinary writing and Emma knocking it out of the park. This is another classic Emma sketch like Wells for Boys and the actress.
Honestly that alone makes it so incredibly refreshing. Ten years ago I'd never imagine SNL could make a sketch about Cass and be so respectful of her memory.

That she choked on a ham sandwich and that’s why she died, etc. Even in the Mamas and the Papas, Michelle Philips was the classic California beauty, and I remember them talking incredulously about the love letters Cass Elliot got, more than Michelle, despite her presumed unattractiveness, that it was bc of her beautiful voice that men fell in love. They overlooked her weight bc she sang like an angel. Even one of their song lyrics was “and no one’s getting fat except Mama Cass.” So most references to her are jokes about her obesity.

It’s always so much better when a sketch has a final punchline, a lot of SNL sketches seem to end really randomly without resolution, but this one is set up well and lands and just wraps up the whole sketch beautifully
After watching this sketch so, so many times, I think it's one of the best-crafted sketches I've seen on SNL. It's setting up the final gag from the beginning. - First slow-mo establishes the premise - Second slow-mo sets up the scenario of the "powerless" woman in a room full of powerful executives - Third slow-mo/scenario introduces the idea of the movie trailer - Fourth slow-mo, combines all three of the above A lot of SNL closing jokes just try to be surprising or unexpected, but this one is set up so well.
I get what you mean, but I don't think it functioned as a major punchline or anything. All the big laughs were already had. It was just a tight way to finish the sketch
Sketch of the night for me. Chloe is the most exciting addition to SNL in a long time, and I love it when Emma can combine her acting chops with pure silliness.

I think the humor in this sketch is for a very specific kind of person. I personally loved every second of it, but I can see this not being everyone's sense of humor. Emma did fantastic, and Chloe singing always blows me away.
Doing a Mama Cass sketch in 2024 - I’m living for it! Emma Stone is a genius as always and I don’t think I’ll ever forgive SNL for letting Chloe Troast go after one season - what the actual heck?! She was an amazing fit for this show and was outstanding in all of her sketches!
Emma is exceptional because she KNOWS HER LINES so can focus on acting. Other guests (and most of the cast) don't and have to focus on just READING their lines. Emma delivers great entertainment.

Adam Driver, Melissa McCarthy, Emma Stone, Justin Timberlake all perform like the best cast members who can riff without reading the lines (ex. the bronx beat skit with Tina Fey, Amy Poehler, Andy Samberg, and Justin Timberlake)

Brilliant writing and acting. The little spot about "timing" last week was foreshadowing. For Emma to get in her lines so perfectly - seamlessly blending into brief pauses during Chloe's (Mama's) smooth rendition - was truly impressive. Chloe did Mama justice.
This skit is working overtime on a lot of levels. It’s skewering and satiric in the best ways imaginable. Kudos to whoever wrote this and for the cast for hammering it home.

The irony about Emma trying to shoot down “zombies”. It feels intentionally, like a parody homage of her work from Zombieland. However, this proves Emma Stone is capable of bringing comedic range, so hilariously good.😂👏
Mama Cass had a big heart and was one of the most understanding people in the music business back then! She was totally approachable and LOYAL and was always there to lend a hand until the day she died.
Also it's great that she sings that one note slightly flat, just like the actual Mama Cass. "-sing- your own special song" First part is always just a tiny bit flat and she nails that detail.
To be fair, it's a weird note to be hitting and your brain's first instinct is to slide into it. Especially with the arrangement being what it is. I think it'd be the first instinct of many vocalists, of which I know a large amount. If she's doing it on purpose, tho.... Then holy canolis, woman. SNL has had many good vocalists as cast members. There's a lot of crossover with music and comedy. But she is particularly good.

The fact that this sketch is done live is insane. People complain about SNL compared with pre-recorded sketch shows but SNL does it in a live take. It's insane how good it comes out.

This was a special one here. Singing on point. Acting on point. Physical comedy on point. And the concept just works.

The fact that this sketch is done live is insane. People complain about SNL compared with pre-recorded sketch shows but SNL does it in a live take. It's insane how good it comes out.
