The wisdom of AA is the same group of self important clowns spewing out the same four or five talking points meeting after meeting.

    • @ShannonFreng
      @ShannonFreng 14 วันที่ผ่านมา

I've said exactly that, to so many of them (my landlord insists upon renting almost exclusively, to these ex-rehab types, so I can't but hear their recovery shit, whenever I go outside for a smoke). I asked them if that wasn't warrant enough, if not to call it a cult, then to at least state it as being quite bizarre. Well, you'd well known the reaction I got. It would be akin to starting university, yet having each succeeding day be the initial orientation day, over and over, again. They then use that saying of theirs, that people can be too smart for AA, but not too stupid. I told them that yeah, that describes my point perfectly. Why then, would so many disdain it? Ah it pretty much is a cult, the way you can't get shit like that across to them, as they are so indoctrinated. I knew this guy who was quite literate, and enjoyed debating things. But once he got into that ludicrous AA shit, he suddenly became like that.

It really only serves as an affectation, to make them feel they can go about, wearing it as a badge of status. I don't know how many times I've been with normal people, when one of those clowns sees me, and comes join us. They inevitably start talking about AA, and when they finally leave, all my friends are asking me where I ever met that bizarre guy. I tell them, ashamedly, that my building was awash with them.

I went to AA, and boy what an eye opener. This guy started talking about how changed he was etc to the group. Then when we were coming home in the car he’s bragging how he is on benefits, living the life of Riley. Now, I believe there’s no shame in being in benefits. But a perfectly able dude boasting about it to someone who works full time, after just speaking to the group like some kind of new man was a bit much. I thought literally, you sir are an idiot and I never went back.

Yay, you uploaded another video! I've been a longtime follower and haven't binge-drank in over 1 year. I can't wait until my 1-year anniversary of being completely alcohol-free WITHOUT AA! I credit your channel as well as the book 'This Naked Mind' to not drinking.
Also, my weight has gone from 185lb down to 153lb and I'm on the carnivore diet. I do mostly beef roasts in a Dutch oven, no other ingredients. I've gone down on a medication for sleep from 10mg down to 2.5. I'm doing a slow taper because if you jump too quickly, you'll get cluster headaches.
Life is so much better without alcohol and WITHOUT AA!!
Edit: I'm very health-conscious and the rare moment I think about whiskey, I think about it going into my stomach and damaging my gut microbiome. I think when you quit alcohol, your gut rebuilds and gets stronger. Btw, are you getting sick less now that you're off alcohol?

Thanks so much for this video; I really look forward to your uploads, and I absolutely needed to hear your messge of hope (genuine, not AA fear-mongering amd dogmatism dressed up as suxh).I got sucked back into AA recently by a well-meaning friend after having a really difficult summer of realpses. I know instinctively how destructive it is to me; how nothing feels right, and yet- I still went back out of desperation and fear.
The condescention and pity from many now that I'm labelled a "chronic realpser" is soul-destroying. I, and anyone struggling with SUD deserve so much better than a sanctimonious cult which demands we surrender to a life of servitude and self-debasement. There is nothing for me there, but their messge is insidious and I am struggling to de-program.
My advice to anyone is to create a life worth living outside of "the rooms". Volunteering, self-care, hobbies, therapy and Aa alternatives such as SMART & Lifering- ANYTHING that helps you move towards living for you and boosting your self-worth.
Thanks again for reminding me there is hope without Aa "garbage" , Victor.

AA is merely watered-down Christian Evangelicalism, with some extraneous bits thrown in, merely as window dressing filler. Think of it more as just an adult Sunday school for lower class types, with a focus upon temperance, but with no mention of Christ. As a pragmatic agnostic, I require no theistic philosophy, with which to guide my ethics. Religion's real use was as a means of controlling the masses, by instilling in them a fear of God's wrath, if they stepped out of line. Whether deities did indeed, exist, was of secondary moment, as the mere belief in them, in maintaining order, was what mattered. A pragmatic agnostic claims no knowledge of whether deities exist, or not (or that such knowledge, either way, is ever possible), and that even if they did, they would appear to be indifferent to human welfare, so as such, should be considered irrelevant and ignored.

Victor, I'm sure you've seen an interview with Charles Manson. There was some parole board hearing years ago, and this woman on the board was asking Manson questions. She asked him about his prison activities, and the fact that attended AA in prison. At some point, he stopped going, and she inquired why. This isn't word for word, but Manson said something like, "Everyone of those people in those meeting are messed up! I didn't they did me any good, but I just wanted to get out of my cell. I'd rather stay in my cell than go to one of those meetings ever again.".
Say what you will about Manson, he was onto AA. Funny thing, he was saner than a lot of those people in the roomz.

@@quackaholicsanonymous7210 Victor, you ever met one of those ex-cons gurus, who in many cases are un-medicated and mentally ill? I knew one that had a "ministry" that catered to AA members. • @NoMastersNoMistress

Yes, victim blaming addicts who haven't been violent criminals is absolutely embedded in the fabric of our overly Calvinist influenced society. AA has only reinforced it. And the violent criminals often end up as useless or manipulative gurus or the sickest but most popular members of the tribe in Step groups. All the double binds in religious practice can make people more prone to being even more twisted.

In Scotland it’s difficult to get processed as an addict through the court system they don’t just throw anyone to rehab. So there’s this law that’s been brought in now where rehabs that had return clients. Basically cash cows, can no longer claim to be trying to help people when they’re returning for their 8th/13th stay.
Judges are now being given powers to push for alternative rehabs etc and look for other options. Sounds like the community based rehabs are being held to task/accountability which sounds good. Here’s hoping it may start opening judges eyes to the whole recovery industry and realising that it’s screwed.
