    12:48 I’m looking at that center ‘waste’ with a hole in it. Often, that is probably useful. Desirable even.
    But this gave me an awesome idea for a variation. I’m probably never going to want to (or need!) a cnc table - especially for the floorspace factor- but somewhat regularly I need to cut shapes, curves and circles. A modification of this basic idea combined with some woodworking tricks (my other income-producing fab skill) I do with a router and bandsaw will give this super powers.

    Quick tip, drill a golf ball slightly smaller than the diameter of the end of your center punch. Press it on and you're gonna want to use your center punch for hours. They work great on old files with missing handles too.

    Great!
    Handy upgrade on an old idea.
    Perhaps overkill but if you want to reduce drag on a pivot use "3" thin washers on the center. Acts like a bearing. Learned this setting end play on air cooled vw engines. One "always" uses a 3 shim stack.

    • @MakeItKustom
      @MakeItKustom  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the tip man appreciate it!

    • @michaelwillette5738
      @michaelwillette5738 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The 3 shim stack is standard on air-cooled VW crankshaft end play.
      I have found it to work well in other pivot situations. Each end shim acts as a bearing surface and the center shim slides on the other two.
      A touch of lubricant helps....

  • @AbstractDreamz
    @AbstractDreamz 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I did mine different. (Think Jasper jig style for wood workers) I drilled the hole for the plasma tip then I measured carefully for a hole 6 inch away (12 inch DIA). In that location I drilled a 1/8th hole for the pivot pin. After I knew it was accurate at cutting the 12inch DIA circle, I used a ruler to mark up, center punch and drill 1/8th pivot holes at every 1/4th inch. This gives me the ability to cut holes on half inch increments. I then measured and offset another line of holes to the side of those holes to allow me to drill at the 1/4inch increments. So basically, I can use the tool to cut holes at any size on 1/4 inch increments. at the moment i have like 24inch DIA capacity.I then drill a 1/8th hole in the center of the metal for a pivot and use a 1/8th cleco as a quick way to establish the pivot instead of a bolt. It works great. The cleco hole is easily welded up if needed.

    Isn't it awesome when you've been doing something one way for a while...and it works...works pretty darn good actually and then you figure out one little thing that makes it work awesome? I turned 55 this past summer and I've been running into things like that a lot lately. In the past ten years that I've been working full time as a mechanic I've run into quite a lot of those situations where there was come little change in the process, some little change in the set up...etc and it went from working well to working awesome! Good thing because I'm way more forgetful now! lol Something needs to make up for the time I'm standing in front of the tool box thinking, "what the eff did I come over here for again?" LOL
