    Hey Karl,
    That piece you made to hold the instrument cluster matches so well.
    It looks like something made in the art deco period.
    You are on the right path with the whole dash.
    Watching you do things in your shop gives me confidence that I can do it in my shop.
    Thanks for your channel.

    Honestly this is the best TH-cam video i have ever seen. Between the relaxed approach, overall message, fantastic music and pure magic flowing from your hands into the metal its an amazing piece of film. Captivating, inspiring, relaxing and exciting all in one. Im blown away. Retired carpenter learning metal working and this is food for my soul right now. Keep em coming kid.

    Karl you just amaze me on how your brain works, You had the idea the form you wanted. But getting there you struggle just a little like most of do but our struggles normally ends in frustration and our projects sit for ever. Now yours in the wonderful world of video became a product and the way you go about your process teaches us a different way of creation Now all this babal means is I love how you show to keep marching on to get what you wanted from the beginning I wish I had the room or a shop to create all the cool tools you have shown how easy it is to build great job as always and love your designs All this could have been said in one sentence Sorry

      Watching this video for the second time. This time watching at .25 speed. Have ever watched one of your videos at .25 speed? You sound like you had a lot of wobbly pops. Any way watching for inspiration on making a gauge pod for a 48 merc. The merc had the ugliest dash in my opinion. Have welded up all of the original holes in the dash except the glove box and have 2 5” gauges I want to space equally on each side of the steering column. Really enjoy you informative videos.

    Karl, one of the things you might try on a future project like this is using styrofoam. Regular home improvement store insulating styrofoam, the pink stuff, can be hot glued together and cut, sanded, and molded to form something like a dash. When you get it where you like it, you can see what the finished product will look like and function and, as a bonus, you have a ready made buck.

    • @5Perf65mm
      @5Perf65mm 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I think the plastic he is using is HDPE or similar.
      Have you tried the extruded polystyrene board that you mentioned? My thought is that it can't be used as a buck because it is much too brittle and compressible.
      Fine for making a test/mock-up though.

    • @InchFab
      @InchFab 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      The problem is that shit takes time. Once you get to the level this guy is at, you see a shape in your head and everything you do makes that shape a little more clear. I would do the Styrofoam thing, but Karl is past that, I think.

    • @ogt92fromthe1step9
      @ogt92fromthe1step9 8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@5Perf65mmit's uhmw and that still ain't cheap!! That's a pricey mold lol at least for what looyk to be at least 3/4" thick.

    • @FixingWithFriends
      @FixingWithFriends 8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I am thinking clay for my next mold. The cheap stuff you mix yourself. Maybe even sand or paper mache, because I can't do metalwork well enough to do a nice job so there is no point spending more money for the same outcome. If it saves me time even better, if it takes longer... at least I saved money and get some practise kicking myself.

    • @fishhuntadventure
      @fishhuntadventure 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Styrofoam as a hammer buck ain’t gonna work on one hand. On the other it’s gonna give you a warped piece full of edge dents.

    Friend did his floor just like yours, in fact he may have got the design from you. He made a floating console that was only 3" thick but split the passenger from driver. That way he could showcase his floor. Turn out unique and beautiful. Unfortunately he wreck the car and destroyed it. The strong cab area and bracing kept him alive. Beginning to start on his new project.

    Karl, that is an awesome dash design! It's got me thinking I might use that same gauge cluster in a different way on my 32 roadster PU. I use a piece of tubing to make radius bends in my leaf brake also. I think that you will find that if you weld a tab on the tube you will have a much easier time bending. If you stick the material in from the back side and make small little bends then advance the material you can almost bend a tube...like a pickup bed top roll on the bedside.

They really made them look neat. Oh, about the switches on the dash panel - how about something like the switch on the Gibson "Les Paul" guitar. The one with the "Poker Chip" behind it.
