    First, let me say, “thank you” for sharing your knowledge and expertise with us through your channel. You inspired me to try my hand at metal working.
    Secondly, That’s a great tool! I am adding that to my growing, “I want it” list of tools, especially since my current tooling is the HF basic hammer and dolly set and some wood working tools I am repurposing for working on my 1954 Chevy Advanced Designs 6400 grain truck build.
    I hope to create my own videos of the build I am calling Farmageddon since it will be my ‘Mad Max’ style heavy hauler for gravel, hay, trash etc… for our small Kansas farm.

    A little tip I learned a couple years ago. Is to toss a peice of leather over your sandbag. Because much easier to replace a peice of leather then the bag. And cheaper. Since no matter what the meatal will cut into it.

    Wow, that's a bad mother tucker!! You beat the tuck right out of that piece of steel!! Beat the tuck into it, then beat the tuck out of it!! Mother tucker that's awesome!!

    Great video. It always looks like magic when you shrink metal. Fascinating.
    One simple tip for machining plastics: Sanding with your angled sander results in a fuzzy surface. There is an old wood working tool that does the trick. Its a card scraper. These things are cheap. They work on wood, plastics and even aluminum. Get yourself one, get a feeling for it, learn how to sharpen it, and you'll never have fuzzy plastics again.

    Check out Pro Shaper, Wray has “stumps” lined with EDPM rubber to grip and hold the metal. As always, it’s enjoyable to watch a craftsman at work and learn a few things. 👍

    Just purchased material to make your hammer. Had to purchase more material than I needed. My buddies will all want one any how. I purchased the 6061 aluminum. Makes a better finish but does cost more. Great videos to watch on these cold Ohio days. Keep it up and thanks.

    Great build Karl, I like it!...But now I have to buy a milling machine. I hear the problem with tree sections for shrinking stumps. I have three outside "weathering", I just hope they aren't too weathered. If you want a thicker shot bag, get some moose hide. If you don't use hearing protection, I'ma gonna have to shout so you c'n hear me. YES! Make some "Mother Tuckers"! I think that they would be an awesome addition to your tool line!

    Made pop in ends for similar hammers. A protruding ring machined around the insert like an o-ring and a matching groove in the steel body worked great after the bad ideas were sorted. Needed a relief in the plastic to allow the ring to compress before end swaps were possible but they did go in...once. Aluminium handle wasn't a great idea but the owner/designer/critic eventually seemed to enjoy ating on is bloody hammer.
    Yours is a nice one.

  • @tonyv1952
    @tonyv1952 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    I have a hammer like that. It has a thread cut in the ends to hold them in. Say a 2” acme thread or so. They come loose a bit but I just keep checking as I use it.
    Keep up the great videos always enjoy them.

    By the way if you are looking for good booklet for notations instead of something that can easily be torn up you can buy something to put in your three ring or five ring binder, buy from the J R darling Corporation, those are the makers of Rite in the rain paper so it's extremely durable and you can get graph paper on one side and lined on the other and the graph you can get in many different sizes in metric and standard.

  • @5x535

    Very cool hammer Karl, I would like to have one. I would like to have bronze and rawhide ends too. In Smithing we would say you are upsetting the steel. But instead of upsetting the material back into itself, as into the end of a bar, you are upsetting sideways. Very cool. My favorite wood for a stump anvil is Ash. Once you get the shape you want Ash will stay with you and not give up as easily as oak or most other woods. Love your channel. You have taught me many things.

    A helpful tip, usually the handle hole on a hammer is slightly tapered. So when you drive in the wedges, the head cant slide off.

    • @faroironandcustoms6577
      @faroironandcustoms6577 2 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I was going to mention that, but also it is actually hourglass shaped. When a hammer is drifted, it is drifted with a taper from both sides of the eye.

      Plus radiusing the bottom of the hole so the head seats down fully without tearing the hell out of the wood.And really there's supposed to be two wedges holding the head on. A wooden one down the length and the steel one crossways.

    You can never get enough tools! So this is another candidate to everyone's collection!
    You might want to offer one without a handle though - to save on shipping, for those overseas? 👍

    Great video. Karl your a great natural teacher. Would love to have a mother tucker. I feel there is no need to supply a handle we can figure that out.

    'Great tool to bring to marke..'......Oh, you already said that...Impressive results from 'The Mother Tucker' if/when it goes into production it has to have 'MOTHER TUCKER' as per your example...even the 'O' has to be slightly higher than the 'other' letters...and numbered too....

    Looks like a DIY version of the classic Thorex hammer. Which is pretty cool. They do one which weighs 2.2kg with interchangeable ends, which should do some work
