If it’s got a choke it’s 150bhp crank max and will redline at 11,750rpm with only 70lb ft of torque. That’s why it doesn’t feel ‘that’ fast

If it’s got a choke it’s the early model R1 (4xv/5jj) and won’t be running 175bhp, I’d be very surprised if it was, the more powerful later fuel injected models were around the 170-175 mark.

This is super sexy especially with the seats pushed back and it's rear-wheel drive which is a huge perk. It would be kind of weird driving it. I'm boring I guess though because of a car like that I'd put something like a reliable simple 2-liter 4-cylinder in it with like 200 horsepower, or maybe a rotary engine because why not. And of course we will drive is what all mayonnaise should be so that's damn cool!

Every bike engined car I have built, (and I have built a few) I have put a standard bike ratio hand clutch on the gearstick, and matched the throttle pedal ratio to the action on the carbs/throttle bodies to make things much easier to drive, there is no need for this light switch clutch and throttle shizzle

It depends if it's a new R1 engine and has a quick shifter with auto blip if not you need to use the clutch

Definitely should be able to. Even old 90s super bikes can be shifted without the clutch. You just can’t pussyfoot the gear change. You’ve gotta be a man about it and grab it. This is such a cool, clean build and would be a blast here in the Pennsylvania backroads.
My dad had a 68 mini with a 2400cc motor with 3 downdraft 2 barrel webers... When we lived in southern Spain... Thing hauled ass..

Is there more information on this car? I love the idea of front mounted rwd - would love to see the prop-shaft and rear axle setup. Also, what transfer box does it have for the forward/reverse - is it the type that means you also have 5/6 gears in reverse? So used to seeing front mounted front wheel drive or rear mounted rear wheel drive - both of those have chains and Quaife ATB diffs.

I had a 350kg buggy (inlc me in it) with similar engine and you will burn clutches learning to drive it (especially from a stop) and also remember you really only need to clutch on downshifting and if worried just throttle off a bit to unload it and shift.
Have fun and def take to an open track day as it could potentially get over 250kph with right gearing quick

This is the perfect example why bike engines aren't used in cars, the lack of torque & poor drivability even though they make high horse power they aren't fast, just quickish.
@@HashDogg06eh not so sure about that. My R1 car runs with some pretty stout cars. Torque can easily be changed via sprocket changes.

If it's got the bike gearbox, which it looks like it is, you don't really need to use the clutch on up-shifts. Just let off the throttle a smidge and change up. Best to use the clutch on down shifts, of course!

@@Leehuss5582 It's a mk5 (1984-1990). The Mini's used the same sealed beam headlights upto 1990. Mk1 Mini's had the door hinges on the outside, sliding windows and smaller rear window. Mk1 Mini's had smaller rear lights (tear drop), mk2 used larger rear llights (reflectors added) and after that they used even larger rear lights which had a reversve light added.

@@Leehuss5582 Yeah, you wont see them in ULEZ zones, except special events. There are still loads of them around the Uk, I have 6 from 1974 to 1995, including two Clubman Estates. If you like the Mini - look for 'Brands Hatch - Mini Fest'. A good day out, or a good camping trip - which ever suits you.

I got to ride in a Mini back in the 80's that had a race prepped kwaka 900 wedged in .. that thing was evil as..
Did you leave the choke on? Sounded held back at the top. Also the clutch was probably getting a bit hot towards the end I don’t think it needs replacing - try clutchless up shifts
Sounded fine to me, guessing with it having a choke it's an old R1 engine which don't make anywhere near the power of newer models

You can shift up just by lifting and shifting, you only need the clutch for downshifts 👍

But I've just given my eldest son my Honda type R dc2 turbo 400BHP race tuned
To my son so he can enjoy
Tbh I've owned it since 2003 and its a 2000 w reg in black
But its been in my garage for last 10 years covered up
That thing would beat most motorbikes off the line up to 170 mph where it would bounce off the Rev limiter ,
In fifth gear
You couldn't change gears fast enough
But now my son who is a registered bodywork specialist and engineer is bringing back to glory
I had fun and the list of expensive high proform parts was endless
Even little things like Apexi hand controller plug in to Apexi chipped EUC
I had a 6 speed gearbox made for it as the goal was to get it to 200mph
And remember it was bouncing off the rev limiter in fifth gear at 170 mph everytime
So the thought was another gear maybe another 30 mph
Then they brought out the more modern 6 speed integra type R
And I was going to use that gearbox
But hey work and life and divorce got in the way 😆
Black colour cars look fantastic but remember my car didn't have Air con because it was designed for lightness and Honda factory stripped everything out at Time of manufacture
Tbh I was really a big fan of front wheel drive vehicles and I am more of a Ford person

THE FIRST ONE TO STICK A MINI ENGINE IN THE BACK OF A MINI . WAS JOHN REYNOLDS. AND HE WAS A BODEY SHOP REPAIR MAN . AT BASILDON MOTORS . I CAN REMEMBER HE HAD A MINI ENGINE IN THE BACK . AND A CONCRETE BLOCK IN THE FRONT . AND ONE HEEL OF A LONG GEAR STICK .
Mental car, but would have made a big difference with just loosing the passenger due to the lack of torque. Would have felt much quicker then
