Vans RV-8 Update new tools and parts Ep 51

This is just a quick update with a look at some of the new tools and parts I got in for the RV-8. This includes the replacement wing rib from Vans as well as the fuel pickup tube. The aerodynamic vent and drain covers are from JDair.com and are very nicely machined. I will get back to building later today and get some more build videos out soon. Wy is lasercut bad?

Its not normally a bad thing however, Vans had subcontracted when they got busy during covid to have another company laser punch the holes in a lot of their parts instead of the cnc punch press Vans normally uses. Unfortunately there was a loss of quality control and a large number of the parts had irregular shapes or notches in the holes left by the laser. This led to a lot of them cracking as soon as the hole was dimpled. Cracks around rivet holes can spread through a part under stress and possibly lead to a failure later on. Vans has done analysis on all of these parts and come up with a list of parts that are critical to replace and then others that aren't as critical.
