Probably People that don't like someone putting a 230 motor in a 115 evap. Who knows ? thats only thing i can figure. Model number tag has to be Modified for future techs 10 yrs from now, they look at Evaporator tag says 115volt, they be hunting for a 115 breaker, when actually they should be hunting for 230 breaker. that would piss me off. nobody Labeling Evap. 230 Volt. Needs one of those Big orange 230 volt stickers on it. ( i Clicked Like )
Great video Dave. I found those lever nuts recently and love them. Make wire up faster and easy to change parts while live when needed. The bonus is the slot at the end of the connector is setup to use the probes on your meters for quick diagnosis. Look forward to the next video.
Wow, the service port on the suction header looked baked, Heatcraft needs to train up their factory workers a bit... or maybe it was just sheer boredom on a Friday afternoon... I worked on an old evap where the installer forgot or didn’t know to put the piston into the spider, I found that one circuit was flooded and one circuit was starving, but the TX was still maintaining a consistent superheat. In essence it turned a 7500 Btu coil into a 3750 Btu coil - I’m just guessing as to the actual Btu loss, but it clearly wasn’t efficient. So I agree with you Dave, don’t forget to put the right piston facing the right way into the spider before brazing the TX valve in. Good video man! Thanks!

Great content Dave, I’m from Australia Heatcraft is is a common wholesaler here we use, coils look very similar, same distributors, never seen or heard of a nozzle until following your channel, many products are country specific, I’m still trying to track down the drier sight combos.

Dave have had Really bad luck lately with bohn/ heatcrafts pre built coils. 208 units . Solenoid coils were dual voltage from factory. Wired for 115 . Hung 3 in one spot. Long story short all 3 needed solenoid coils after start up. Have switched to build out coils my self . U can trust no body these days.

Tip: I saw you do a roof top repair, and you had to tape the exposed electrical line... maybe just temporarily. What's a good nick name for that? Cowboyed it in? Wrangled it in? Which do you like better? Okay... Here's the tip. Your Electrical wholesaler sells super stretchy waterproof electrical tape that they use on electrical lines on submersible water pumps deep in drilled wells. Put that shit on and not just getting down and dirty cowboy style... Your the Lone F**king Ranger on that one!
Hey Dave... Great video! Surfing question... do you surf traditional style with a full size board? I have a couple of times, but just got stood up and fell off right after. Super tiring that sport... I though I ran a marathon just after 20 minutes each time. I am average build at 53 yrs of age... I thought maybe surfing was for super fit chiseled guys.

It seems like it just never shuts off. It’s pretty old and I’m prob gonna have to put in a new compressor and evap. Thanks for the video. Great build, might I make a suggestion Dave? Wouldn't it be easier to braze the two pieces connected to the solenoid outside?. then the final piece to the txv value on the inside of the coil?
Could you please let us know what wire you're using and flux. What is your favorite? I've had different recommendations from everyone. Dome don't even use flux. I'm stumped and want to put out a better product and make it simple.

i'd use a 1/2 ton valve. i am under the understanding the valves open 50% in either direction. in other words a 1/2 ton valve is good for 1/4-3/4 ton or 3,000 to 9,000 btu's. a 1 ton valve is good for 3/4 ton to 1.5 ton or 9,000 btu's to 18,000 btu's. i Personally select a valve closest to the tonnage i need. 1/2 ton being closer than 1 ton. You can allways call sporlan or alco and ask them to be sure. i Personally Believe if u use a 1 ton valve on a 1/2 ton application you will get Flooding to the compressor sometimes, it would Probably Work Fine But, YOu Better be Running a Suction accumulator because when that valve opens it's gonna OPEN. possibility of losing a compressor due to liquid slugging without an accumulator.
don't do that! slight difference in winding/load will make the voltage low on one and soar high on the other and magic smoke will emit from both before the show stops :)

Cut the copper and use a small pick or a bent paper clip to pull the retainer ring and nozzle out. You will need to ream the the copper after cutting it or it won't come out. Just my 2 cents

They have a capacity size. But the liquid line needs to the correct size.

For 7000 btu, will you use half ton txv or one ton?
A ton..better to throttle down than not have enough.
