Informative and basic. Nice job. I'm retired now, but travelled multiple states taking care of industrial, institutional, and some commercial accounts. Also helped with apprenticeship training. (Ran EMS, rescue, fire, and had the privilege of flying with a helicopter service to unwind after dealing with architects and engineers at my 'real job'. Might touch on wild leg sometime to clear that up for folks, preferably not using it for your control circuit, and the oil pressure/ low pressure controls. Nice video --

Do I hear in your voice a rewire job? Or perhaps following someone else's install, and left wondering how the installer can breathe unassisted. I had that yesterday, and ran into just what you were saying about the disconnect on a brand new install. I know I've been away for a while but a WIF set up for a WIC, and the Ranco ETC sensor right on the evaporator. The customer was very angry because the installers couldn't figure out how to covert it. Oh joy, I didn't miss this. Disconnect corrected, moved t-stat sensor, fans wire for always on, heating elements disabled, and left instructions in evaporator and condenser for easy conversion back to WIF operation if needed. Now we are back to carry out only in Michigan. So you know they will keep the freezer condensing unit. All that capacity going to waste, but the customer is happy he has a WIC that works.

Thanks for the basics. Also I can add set the low pressure cut out above vacuum on those scroll compressors if they pump down to a vacuum it kills them quick, right? Use your gouges to set the lpco switches.

Very good vedio...if you get a chance please will you make another vedio for head pressure troubleshooting on top units and how to fix that issue. I seen this problem a lot compressor turned on for a seconds then shuts off over and over...thank you
what if you didn't have a T-stat or solenoid valve on the evaporator, less problems, couldn't you control box temp with the LP control on the condensing unit? last time I checked, pressure is temp... did this stuff for thirty years...
Awesome Dave! I forgot what purpose was for reverse p-trap of line set above the roof to the condensing unit and you already have p-trap suction riser coming out of the evap coil below?
to help return oil to condenser (compressor), also many area require a tall roof boot at the penetration, so the lines generally go up high and then back down lower ( heavy rain, snowfall, plugged roof drain area) underwater line set penetrations can end up a new roof drain :) ** also forgot to say, a long horizontal(maybe sloped the wrong way on the roof can pool oil in the bottom, drain back to and down the vertical without the inverse trap at top. if it's short horizontal, doesn't matter as much.
My company buys all the refrigeration units from United. The wholesaler will match up the units using the data provided by Trenton, Copelend, and Tecumseh. I choose the piping based on the size coming from those units. If the condensing unit is above the evaporator or it is a long line set, I may drop a little on the suction size to get velocity needed to bring the oil back. This is how I was trained by my mentor. Others may vary.
Hey man great video! Got 2 evaps on 1 condenser. The evaps have pre mounted tstat and solenoids. I've piped them in bull nose style and I'm onto wiring. How would a man make both solenoids open off 1 tstat?
Hi Dave, Just have a question. Why after the solenoid closes, the pressure in the condenser goes down? Isn’t it the solenoid closes, the pressure in the condenser should goes up, just like when you have a liquid line restriction, the pressure in the condenser will rise. Please advise. At 11:45 mm:ss, "On a recip, it doesn't matter which way it goes". I said that once, to an restaurant owner and his hired electrician, (who the owner hired to install the 3PH circuit). The electrician answered, "He doesn't know what he's talking about". I said: "Oh Really!? Careful Sparky! Your weaving out of your lane!!!" The educmacation ensued, and I got my apology!!

Great video, I just had one question, for the solenoid valve. I re watched the video many times. So you land L1 for the solenoid valve on N.O ??? I thought it would go on N.C since the solenoid valve opens when energized and is in the N.C position when when it’s not energized by the Tstat… can you you explain that. Thanks in advance

It’s the way the Tstat is configured on temp fall the NO contacts open. And re make on temp rise.
