Raiden was an absolute scrub in this movie. Shang Tsung comes in Raiden’s own crib and kills his warriors and he doesn’t do anything. Shang Tsung kills Kung Lao right in front of him and Raiden does not give a fuck. Tell me why Shang Tsung treats his warriors better than Raiden...
Raiden was so bad in this movie I felt like I could put my hands on Raiden 😠 Nobody should ever be able to say that about the thunder God... That's how you know it was bad casting and acting.

They did, I’ll admit it. Although, I wish they put in his spine rip fatality in there (the reason why ESRB ratings exist in video games in the first place). They have other people’s klassic fatalities but not his signature one.
MK 1995= Sacrifices the Scorpion/Subzero rivalry for the sake of the story. MK 2021=Sacrifices the story for the sake of the Scorpion/Subzero rivalry (and a fanfiction hero).
Here is another patch I have in mind A post credit scene where Shang Tsung revives some of his dead warriors as revenants in fact here are all the characters Shang Tsung would revive Reptile Kabal Sub Zero ( as Noob Saibot) ( this is the normal version) Goro ( this would be the Fightersden cut) Baraka And he would also straight up resurrect Kano with his iconic eye laser plate and even some other robot parts. And also reveal that he has an army of Mileena clones.

Baraka definitely would've been a better choice of character to put Cole Young over instead of Goro. Nicely done on the patchwork! It would have made the movie much more better to enjoy watching!
I'd also say remove Mileena save her for the sequel and have her be introduced with Kitana and add some pink/purple to the costume and of course the teeth yeah and get rid of the voice effect
You know what, I think it would've been better if Cole didn't have a mark and died against Shang Tsung trying to help them. I would probably even feel sorry for him 'cause then it would be like "damn they dragged a man into this mess who didn't have powers and even had a family. He died for them and now they have to live with that". That would've made him much more heroic in my eyes.
Here's what I want to see in the sequel A couple minutes in what looks to be a stranger confronts Cole then this guy grabs Cole by the throat and then that stranger reveals himself to be Shang Tsung and then he kills Cole Young right in front of his wife and daughter and says this when he finds out , "don't worry, soon you and all of Earthrealm will either join him in death or will kneel before me for all eternity." And as a result Scorpion decides to return from the Netherrealm again this time for revenge on Shang Tsung for killing his descendant.
If they just removed Cole young and arcana and made the fights and villains better and gave more development to the characters then maybe it would be good

Yeah I don't get why they keep doing my boi Kung Lao dirty like that. It should've been Cole, that way it would be more shoking seeing "The Main Character" getting killed. I would probably even feel sorry for the dude if he died there, then it would be like "damn, they dragged a dude into this mess who had a family and he was the weakest one of them, he shouldn't have been here. Now his blood is on their hands".
There are a few patches that just by adding dialogue or just a few more minutes of fight time could have made this movie a lot better. But there is only 1 PATCH that I care to talk about. And sorry for the length of this post in advance! Goro vs Cole: For this Patch to work, Raiden would've needed to have intervened more throughout the movie. I would keep most of this fight as is, but where I would start to make changes is when Cole unlocks his Arcana. •I get that Cole's armor protects him and he can redistribute its energy in various way, but that DOESN'T mean he should be able to go blow for blow with Goro. •After the uppercut, Goro staggers back, and after he shakes off the hit and wipes the blood from his lip, he should say, "Good"! •Goro continues to attack and Cole is on the defense still taking a beating but able to land a few shots in but not really able to hurt Goro. •Cole's suit is protecting him, keeping him in the fight and he manages to get another shot in, distancing Goro from him. Goro runs and leaps and as he lands, causes the ground to quake, knocking down Cole! •Goro begins to walk towards Cole, but Raiden appears in between them. Raiden glares at Goro and then turns to Cole- Goro "Snarls and Roars" as he prepares to strike Raiden from behind. •Raiden, in a small display of his power, knocks Goro back. As Goro stands and wipes his face, Raiden opens a Portal. Before Goro enters it, he say's, "I will see you at the Tournament" and walks through the Portal. •Raiden then congratulates Cole on unlocking his Arcana and leaves heading to his Temple, leaving a Portal open for Cole to go through after he has a moment with his family. Another Idea I had, instead of Goro, have the Shokan be his Brother-Duroc from the Malibu Comics Era. He is a very minor character and dead BUT giving him a small retcon to play this role would have been more acceptable. You get to show how Big, Strong & Fierce Shokan's are and NOT kill off a major character so soon and Cole gets put over by defeating a Shokan. This also makes the actual Tournament very personal for Goro, not just bc Outworld needs to win, but to get revenge for his Brother's death!
I know I'm late, but I just got around to watching the 2021 movie (and kinda wish I hadn't)... An additional gripe I had with this movie is the lack of the goofy humor that, to me, is a big part of what makes Mortal Kombat what it is. This movie took itself way too seriously. We all agree Kano was the comic relief character. Now, can you tell me who was the comic relief character in the '95 movie? No, because THERE WASN'T ONE. Everyone had their comedic moments. Cage & Kano, of course, but also Liu, Sonya, Raiden, even Shang Tsung. Extreme violence is what Mortal Kombat is best known for, but that humor is what helped to set it above other ultra-violent fighters (anyone remember Time Killers?) of the time. Friendships, Babalities, even the iconic "Toasty!" were all goofy as hell. The '95 movie managed to transfer that goofiness to the screen. For me, Mortal Kombat holds a similar place in my heart as Evil Dead 2. Over-the-top violence, iconic characters, and stupid humor? Hell yes, let's go. The '21 movie did well on two of those three things, but tried way too hard to be serious. Just one more reason why, to me, the '95 movie is still the only one worth watching. The lack of a kick-ass soundtrack didn't help, either. Great video, love your stuff!

Totally agree, use the freaking black dragon, you already have kaval and Kano, use jarek or Tasia i dunno, let sonya kill jarek or kobra and earn the mark that way, let kano live for the sequel if there is one
I agree with everything you said, except for the last one #5. They don't need a 30 second staredown but they need to switch Shang Tsung and his dialogue because it is insinuating the MKII/ Shaolin Monks events and not MK 1, which is what we need. Not "I'll be back with armies next time" Also, I wouls change these things: 1) Sub Zero dying and have him escape Scorpion being burned through a portal by Shang Tsung. If Taslim is really signed on for 5 total films, it would be good to have him in 1 more movie as Sub Zero before his transformation to Noob Saibot in my opinion. I wanna see more of his SUB ZERO before we get Kuai Liang's version (that's not to say we can't see him as Tundra 1st !) Because lore wise it actually was a third encounter with Sub Zero that Scorpion was able to defeat Bi Han. We should get Scorpion vs Sub Zero again in the next movie during the tournament. 2) Similar to above, Sonya should have aquired her powers in a bettwr way. They could have had her fight Sonya once earlier where she got her shit pushed in by Mileena so Sonya at least had to go through more trauma like the others apparently did. 3) A couple more lines of Dialogue for the Outworlders would've been nice. An exhange between Shang Tsung and Reiko about Shao Zahn is a perfect Easter egg. Nitara could have literally said anything lol, just like Reiko. Mileena and Sub Zero definitely should have had more lines, Sub Zero could have mentioned the modern Lin Kuei or a few members. 5) for me this one isn't a fix because I thought Reptile was good in the movie but I would like to see him return in a mkre humanoid form in the next movie and have a Shaolin Monks look which was his best design imo, and they can CGI some of his movements to make them reptilian. Hopefully a more humanoid ninja Reltile returns in the sequel 🙏 Imho, these changes along with your 1st 4 would make the movie a 9.5 or 10/10.
I agree. Baraka should've been talent announcement for Cole. Instead Reptile was talent announcement for Kano. Having Jobber Kano kill Jobber Reptile made KANO look like a badass. I found myself routing for KANO over Cole Young. THAT'S a problem 😕 NON Mortal Kombat fans or people not familiar with MK lore is going to think KANO is ACTUALLY good. THAT'S a HUGE problem

So they downplayed Reiko after making him beast in the comics hmm. Yeah having Goro swapped out for Baraka not bad they can also go with decent strong kharacters like Drahmin, Moloch, Tremor or gatekeepers like Ferra and Torr, Kollector one of those would do.
You fix all Cole Young's problems by just making him Kenshi. Have him get blinded in the last fight then his arcana is Neo like powers and the sword containing the Shirai Ryu. Done. Easy.
Before this starts, it coulda been fixed by making Coles Hakana tapping into his inner scorpion, and embodying Hanzo AS SCORPION. It wouldve made the Goro kill make sense, and u could give him the Sub Zero kill

Just put some other Outworlder, or, as they are using the Black dragon, you can use Kobra or Jarek. Yes, it will not help Cole much to be beating the ultimate jobbers, but I would still prefer him to start working on jobbers before he can get to the main guys
naa don't want him to be jobber again, but i would much rather him than Goro, kobra and jarek have zero fans base and would have done nothing for cole at all, Baraka suits the horror scene they were going for and he would dominated 70% of the fight just like Goro did, remember we are just replacing him, and remember this is before the first tournament baraka had no respect here lol.

This movie was a " MIX BAG " ..I didnt really like how they used this inner power called " ARCANA " ...it felt kind of cheap ( in others EX MACHINA ) ..if it was a replacement for " Animality " that would of been cool --like each character gets a " spirit animal " that gives them a unique fighting style prowess..that would've of been cool 💡..this would also help to establish Nightwolf ...Rayden was a uninspiring grump 🙁, Subzero was a MENACE to society ( as in Michael Myers ⚰ lol), Kano was well fleshed out , Liu Kang doesn't work as a background character but he was good too 😐, Kung Lao was surprisely GREAT --his death felt out of place tho 😐, Jax & Sonya was good as exposition/lore , Scorpion was awesome, lastly Shang Tsung & crew except for Kabal/ Mileena slightly felt like DUDS 💀🙁..Shang's performance didn't surpass the original 1995 performance..Raiden's Temple is a cool concept 🔥🔥🔥..just wish it was more of an journey or build up to discovering that Kano knew where it was ..like creating an enigma around it, making it just as important as the Mortal Kombat tournament...Cole Young was ok ..but too similar to Cage that was a mistake 😕..why couldn't he be a KIBO fitness instructor who really wanted to be fire fighter to support his family but didn't meet the qualifications, so he's stuck trying to encourage a hand full underdogs back in shape which kind of breaks his spirit because it makes him remember how much a unsuccessful loser he is as an adult [ Fast Forward To The End of The MK Film ] ...he finds a way to leave the fitness DOJO & explains to his spunky manager he got a more rewarding gig in Hollywood..which also leads to a gag 😄👌 ( as in Johnny Cage's personal KIBO instructor for his new movie )

I like the movie even with it's problems. Expected it too be worse. Downside too much focus on Cole. Goro was treated bad Cole should have fought Milena instead. Fight scenes could be a bit better. Not enough focus on characters like Liu Kang, Kung Lao.
I think Cole should have turned into Scorpion during the Goro fight and in the final fight Old Scorpion should have possessed Cole's body and kill Sub Zero.
this movie is in the past were baraka was 100% A jobber then, i would much rather it be him than Goro, that actually hurt the movie badly Mk11 is the future WHEN baraka finally got some respect, still didn't win a fight, but got some credibility
Here’s what I’d do to fix it in a sequel (even though I don’t think the movie would have gotten one if it wasn’t called “Mortal Kombat”) 1. Hire a competent writer 2. Recast: Raiden, Shang Tsung, Sonya and Liu Kang (sorry Ludi Lin, maybe it was a bad script) 3. Have Cole replace Johnny Cage in Hollywood as a stunt actor or kill him off altogether 4. Don’t job out key characters like Goro (ie bring back because this movie was ass writing) 5. Focus on one fight at a time vs five because it looked like crap 6. Cut unneeded characters. If you need fodder, just use low level Tarkatans, Shokans, or Tsarians

@@TheFightersDen If I was the director of this movie, I would have references from MortalKombat 9, we need klassic characters like Kitana, Baraka, Johnny Cage, Sindel, Shao Kahn, Ermac, Jade, Skarlet, Kenshi, Kintaro, Smoke, Cyrax, Sektor, Quan Chi, Sheeva, Nightwolf, Shinnok and Rain. Also we don’t need any new character, and Warner Bros should focus on personal vendetta between Scorpion and Sub-Zero.
My opinion since they referenced Kano killing Sonia is old partner. Actually show as that as an introduction to Kano. Get rid of the stop marks. That idea was stupid. Instead of having Cole Young. If they're going to make it to where somebody else in scorpions line survived. It would have made sense if it was the daughter. Or make it to where the Daughter had a son. Who becomes a champion for earth; restores the clan and it's honor. And since we know that Quan chi was really the one who killed scorpions family. Why not have Quan Chi manipulating Sub-Zero from behind the scenes. Have him appear in the background for split second. Foreboding figure in the shadows. Cole Young's a jobber, I don't know have him fight some no counts. And limit his scene time. Pick a different actor for Raiden. Instead of Jax losing his arms to Sub zero. Have it where Sub-zero and Goro are after cole. Or even have Reiko take Jax's arms. Just as Jax is about to be finished off. Liu Kang and Kung Lao show up for the rescue. Maybe even Raiden appearing to save Jax. Get Jax out of there. Back to the temple; and actually his arms being rebuild. Give Kano his cybernetics. I would've had Sonya fighting Malena in the end. Instead of coming in at the end. Not even Malena. That fight at the end would have been the perfect time for kitana to make an appearance. At the last moment and take out Malena. But I agree on replacing Gaara with Baraka. In the post credit scene could have revealed shinnok or Shao Kahn.
@@chadpeterson5698 Sub Zero being legitimately evil and the one who killed Scorpion’s family was great. It established him as a threat and the main villain of the movie which is the kind of billing the iconic ninja should have.
@@illusion2438 technically Shang Tsung was the main villain since he was the one giving out the orders, Sub Zero is the central villain meaning that most of the attention is on him even when there is a greater evil. Also I somewhat agree since it actually makes the Scorpion and Sub Zero rivalry that much more legit. However Quan Chi fans will be mad.

•I get that Cole's armor protects him and he can redistribute its energy in various way, but that DOESN'T mean he should be able to go blow for blow with Goro.
•After the uppercut, Goro staggers back, and after he shakes off the hit and wipes the blood from his lip, he should say, "Good"!
•Goro continues to attack and Cole is on the defense still taking a beating but able to land a few shots in but not really able to hurt Goro.
•Cole's suit is protecting him, keeping him in the fight and he manages to get another shot in, distancing Goro from him. Goro runs and leaps and as he lands, causes the ground to quake, knocking down Cole!
•Goro begins to walk towards Cole, but Raiden appears in between them. Raiden glares at Goro and then turns to Cole- Goro "Snarls and Roars" as he prepares to strike Raiden from behind.
•Raiden, in a small display of his power, knocks Goro back. As Goro stands and wipes his face, Raiden opens a Portal. Before Goro enters it, he say's, "I will see you at the Tournament" and walks through the Portal.
•Raiden then congratulates Cole on unlocking his Arcana and leaves heading to his Temple, leaving a Portal open for Cole to go through after he has a moment with his family.
Another Idea I had, instead of Goro, have the Shokan be his Brother-Duroc from the Malibu Comics Era. He is a very minor character and dead BUT giving him a small retcon to play this role would have been more acceptable. You get to show how Big, Strong & Fierce Shokan's are and NOT kill off a major character so soon and Cole gets put over by defeating a Shokan.
This also makes the actual Tournament very personal for Goro, not just bc Outworld needs to win, but to get revenge for his Brother's death!

I know I'm late, but I just got around to watching the 2021 movie (and kinda wish I hadn't)...
An additional gripe I had with this movie is the lack of the goofy humor that, to me, is a big part of what makes Mortal Kombat what it is. This movie took itself way too seriously. We all agree Kano was the comic relief character. Now, can you tell me who was the comic relief character in the '95 movie? No, because THERE WASN'T ONE. Everyone had their comedic moments. Cage & Kano, of course, but also Liu, Sonya, Raiden, even Shang Tsung.
Extreme violence is what Mortal Kombat is best known for, but that humor is what helped to set it above other ultra-violent fighters (anyone remember Time Killers?) of the time. Friendships, Babalities, even the iconic "Toasty!" were all goofy as hell. The '95 movie managed to transfer that goofiness to the screen. For me, Mortal Kombat holds a similar place in my heart as Evil Dead 2. Over-the-top violence, iconic characters, and stupid humor? Hell yes, let's go.
The '21 movie did well on two of those three things, but tried way too hard to be serious. Just one more reason why, to me, the '95 movie is still the only one worth watching.
The lack of a kick-ass soundtrack didn't help, either.

I agree with everything you said, except for the last one #5. They don't need a 30 second staredown but they need to switch Shang Tsung and his dialogue because it is insinuating the MKII/ Shaolin Monks events and not MK 1, which is what we need. Not "I'll be back with armies next time"
Also, I wouls change these things:
1) Sub Zero dying and have him escape Scorpion being burned through a portal by Shang Tsung. If Taslim is really signed on for 5 total films, it would be good to have him in 1 more movie as Sub Zero before his transformation to Noob Saibot in my opinion. I wanna see more of his SUB ZERO before we get Kuai Liang's version (that's not to say we can't see him as Tundra 1st !) Because lore wise it actually was a third encounter with Sub Zero that Scorpion was able to defeat Bi Han. We should get Scorpion vs Sub Zero again in the next movie during the tournament.
2) Similar to above, Sonya should have aquired her powers in a bettwr way. They could have had her fight Sonya once earlier where she got her shit pushed in by Mileena so Sonya at least had to go through more trauma like the others apparently did.
3) A couple more lines of Dialogue for the Outworlders would've been nice. An exhange between Shang Tsung and Reiko about Shao Zahn is a perfect Easter egg. Nitara could have literally said anything lol, just like Reiko. Mileena and Sub Zero definitely should have had more lines, Sub Zero could have mentioned the modern Lin Kuei or a few members.
5) for me this one isn't a fix because I thought Reptile was good in the movie but I would like to see him return in a mkre humanoid form in the next movie and have a Shaolin Monks look which was his best design imo, and they can CGI some of his movements to make them reptilian. Hopefully a more humanoid ninja Reltile returns in the sequel 🙏
Imho, these changes along with your 1st 4 would make the movie a 9.5 or 10/10.

You fix all Cole Young's problems by just making him Kenshi. Have him get blinded in the last fight then his arcana is Neo like powers and the sword containing the Shirai Ryu. Done. Easy.

These are great changes. I would of enjoyed the movie better if they changed Goro with Baraka. And made the fights a bit longer and with less cuts.
All and All, it was a pretty Good Movie, not the Greatest but it will need some Improvements either in the Sequel or a Director's Cut.
Make Cole Young Kobra retconned as Scorpion's descendant and not just some brand "new" character.
Before this starts, it coulda been fixed by making Coles Hakana tapping into his inner scorpion, and embodying Hanzo AS SCORPION.
It wouldve made the Goro kill make sense, and u could give him the Sub Zero kill

This movie was a " MIX BAG " ..I didnt really like how they used this inner power called " ARCANA " ...it felt kind of cheap ( in others EX MACHINA ) ..if it was a replacement for " Animality " that would of been cool --like each character gets a " spirit animal " that gives them a unique fighting style prowess..that would've of been cool 💡..this would also help to establish Nightwolf ...Rayden was a uninspiring grump 🙁, Subzero was a MENACE to society ( as in Michael Myers ⚰ lol), Kano was well fleshed out , Liu Kang doesn't work as a background character but he was good too 😐, Kung Lao was surprisely GREAT --his death felt out of place tho 😐, Jax & Sonya was good as exposition/lore , Scorpion was awesome, lastly Shang Tsung & crew except for Kabal/ Mileena slightly felt like DUDS 💀🙁..Shang's performance didn't surpass the original 1995 performance..Raiden's Temple is a cool concept 🔥🔥🔥..just wish it was more of an journey or build up to discovering that Kano knew where it was ..like creating an enigma around it, making it just as important as the Mortal Kombat tournament...Cole Young was ok ..but too similar to Cage that was a mistake 😕..why couldn't he be a KIBO fitness instructor who really wanted to be fire fighter to support his family but didn't meet the qualifications, so he's stuck trying to encourage a hand full underdogs back in shape which kind of breaks his spirit because it makes him remember how much a unsuccessful loser he is as an adult [ Fast Forward To The End of The MK Film ] ...he finds a way to leave the fitness DOJO & explains to his spunky manager he got a more rewarding gig in Hollywood..which also leads to a gag 😄👌 ( as in Johnny Cage's personal KIBO instructor for his new movie )

I like the movie even with it's problems. Expected it too be worse. Downside too much focus on Cole. Goro was treated bad Cole should have fought Milena instead. Fight scenes could be a bit better. Not enough focus on characters like Liu Kang, Kung Lao.
I think Cole should have turned into Scorpion during the Goro fight and in the final fight Old Scorpion should have possessed Cole's body and kill Sub Zero.

Here’s what I’d do to fix it in a sequel (even though I don’t think the movie would have gotten one if it wasn’t called “Mortal Kombat”)
1. Hire a competent writer
2. Recast: Raiden, Shang Tsung, Sonya and Liu Kang (sorry Ludi Lin, maybe it was a bad script)
3. Have Cole replace Johnny Cage in Hollywood as a stunt actor or kill him off altogether
4. Don’t job out key characters like Goro (ie bring back because this movie was ass writing)
5. Focus on one fight at a time vs five because it looked like crap
6. Cut unneeded characters. If you need fodder, just use low level Tarkatans, Shokans, or Tsarians
For number 3 might I suggest that Shang Tsung kill Cole Young.
Nitara got the wwe jobber treatment and mileena..... well she’ll be back hopefully in the next movie but she had the mid card booking storytelling she’s on a stand still.

My opinion since they referenced Kano killing Sonia is old partner. Actually show as that as an introduction to Kano. Get rid of the stop marks. That idea was stupid. Instead of having Cole Young. If they're going to make it to where somebody else in scorpions line survived. It would have made sense if it was the daughter. Or make it to where the Daughter had a son. Who becomes a champion for earth; restores the clan and it's honor. And since we know that Quan chi was really the one who killed scorpions family. Why not have Quan Chi manipulating Sub-Zero from behind the scenes. Have him appear in the background for split second. Foreboding figure in the shadows. Cole Young's a jobber, I don't know have him fight some no counts. And limit his scene time. Pick a different actor for Raiden. Instead of Jax losing his arms to Sub zero. Have it where Sub-zero and Goro are after cole. Or even have Reiko take Jax's arms. Just as Jax is about to be finished off. Liu Kang and Kung Lao show up for the rescue. Maybe even Raiden appearing to save Jax. Get Jax out of there. Back to the temple; and actually his arms being rebuild. Give Kano his cybernetics. I would've had Sonya fighting Malena in the end. Instead of coming in at the end. Not even Malena. That fight at the end would have been the perfect time for kitana to make an appearance. At the last moment and take out Malena. But I agree on replacing Gaara with Baraka. In the post credit scene could have revealed shinnok or Shao Kahn.
I know why they just had Sub Zero being legitimately evil. Because WB hates Quan Chi and decided to write him out of the story.

@@illusion2438 technically Shang Tsung was the main villain since he was the one giving out the orders, Sub Zero is the central villain meaning that most of the attention is on him even when there is a greater evil. Also I somewhat agree since it actually makes the Scorpion and Sub Zero rivalry that much more legit. However Quan Chi fans will be mad.
