A little origin on Carlos "Charlie" Blanka: According to the director of Street Fighter - The Ultimate Battle during a commentary: He wanted to give Blanka an origin story in the film because Capcom didn't give him one in Street Fighter II; this film is basically a psuedo-prequel to the game it was based on. The creation of Carlos Blanka was okay at the time in 1994, until the true prequel Street Fighter Zero/Alpha introduced Nash about a year after, then the plot of the film got criticized for lack of creativity. Personally: Casting an Italian-Australian actor as a Brazilian, sucked as casting a Belgian actor as an American. Blanka is also supposed to be brought to life through CGI like in that one movie Hulk.
You could probably make a whole list from the Chun-Li movie. Half the characters are just dudes, the filmmakers didn’t even try to make them look like their characters. The only ones who fit were Robin Shou as Gen and the late, great Michael Clarke Duncan as Balrog. And as a kid, as much as I thought the actress who played Jade in Annihilation was hot, it always made me mad, being black, that they didn’t cast a hot black chick in the role. In fact, the chick playing Mileena in the new movie, looks more like Jade, IMO.
sorry sorry but even Michael Clarke Duncan was casted badly as Balrog, the casting director on that movie should have been taken outside and whooped upon several times up and down the road, no faith in these big hollywood wigs being faithfully to the source material in these video games.

That's why live-action movies based on video games are an absolute no-go, It makes no sense, It's like combining pizza and burger all in one, It doesn't turn out great, it turns out UGLY! Animation movies based on video games? They definitely get a pass because it's usually to emphasize on stories and characters like KOF: Another Day, Street Fighter Generations, and Scorpions revenge. The only one live-action video game movie that got lucky to have positive praise is Sonic, But that's it, Nothing else.
Not to mention the times characters are based off inspirations too diverse and/or specific to cast (like characters based on action movie stars from your dad’s time)
@Steve Wallace Not entirely true as not all live-action video game films are bad but they are certainly hard to get right and it really depends on what games your talking about cause some translate better than others. The 1995 Mortal Kombat made a great first attempt where the movie stayed very faithful to the source material of the games story-wise and visually with the gore being the only element that was compromised in favor of the narrative and fight scenes. The characters actually look like their video game counterparts even though the movie itself is very cheesy. To my knowledge the first Mortal Kombat movie has gotten positive praise considering the time it was made though it shows its age now by today's standards. The 2018 Tomb Raider film was also a pretty good live action adaptation and does have the spirit of the game and actually scored decenty with reviews though reviews don't really mean a whole lot anyway. Sonic I haven't seen yet but have heard that it was worth a watch and it was not the only live action video game movie to have praise. Video games are difficult to translate well into live action but not impossible as there are plenty of IP's that have good source material that works well in a film. The thing is that video game films rarely score high reviews (not that reviews really matter) cause they are a genre in themselves which they are unfortunately very badly stigmatized cause they are under the video game movie label.
I never understood why studios don't cast cosplayers. If Will Smith has to get in shape and do boxing training for months to get ready for his role in Ali, why not do the same for the people on Devianart and Reddit? Plus, it saves the studio money since its the actors own costume they bought or made.
@@seinenwax94jr9 it’s about working with indie/not official people who can turn out problematic at times and with studios there is a general knowledge of how it will go but indie people it can get risky (although I do wish they can work something out)
I agree with the Christie one. Jin and Christie NEVER had any sort of relationship or interaction. The only character Jin somewhat had a relationship with was Ling Xiaoyu. The actress who played Gogo in Kill bill was originally going to play Ling Xiaoyu but was ultimately cut. I always thought Kazuya was the worst one, Kazuya is Japanese yet the actor who played him definitely wasn't Japanese LOL

I give the benefit of the doubt to Charlie Nash and Dhalsim. Back when that movie came out, Street Fighter Alpha wasn't a thing yet, so no one knew what Charlie looked like. Hell, I don't think Charlie even had a last name back then. All that was known of the guy was that his name was Charlie, he was friends with Guile, and M. Bison killed him. As for Dhalsim, at least they got an actual Indian actor for the role and he eventually goes bald.
