Our walkthrough of the Grit X Pro: • Should I buy the Polar...
Looking to buy a new smart watch but don't know which to buy? This is quick discussion on Polar's new Grit X Pro vs Garmin, Apple, and even Withings!
    DESIGN
Hands down one of, if not THE best looking, fitness tracker. The outside is stunning to look at and equally as good looking at a fashion show as it is on the hiking trails. Polar paid close attention to the details on the Grit X Pro's aesthetics and it shows. From the textured buttons, to the red polar logo on the buckle, to the red button and compass headings on the bezel - every little mm of the watch is outright handsome.
    DURABILITY
The glass is sapphire crystal and the case is either stainless steel or titanium depending on the model you get. The case scratches easily, which you'll be heart broken about because of just how good this thing looks. The glass face is flat (which we love)
    ACCURACY
While we chose not to run official benchmarks with a heart-rate monitor, we feel the accuracy is overall decent with the Polar with a few exceptions. Things like compass, altimeter, are on par with Garmin and Apple. The weather's temperature is aggregated from your phone so it's as accurate as it gets. The heart-rate monitor, which Polar claims is best in class, is a little iffy. According to Desfit and DC Rainmaker the heart-rate monitors are largely accurate through the curve of a workout with the exception of the beginning when things are starting to "warm up". We experienced this same thing. In affect, when you first starting to work out, and your heart rate is beginning to climb, this is when the Polar seems to have trouble tracking. That said the watch will offer a fine overview of your workout and offers fantastic metrics and data post workout.
    USING IT
Here's where it gets dicey. The interface on the Polar is simple and intuitive. It takes very little time to become acquainted with the watch and its app because it IS so simple. A page I wish Garmin would take from their book. The problem is the watch is slow. Slow. SLOW. Interacting such as button pushes, engaging activities or workouts come with the responsiveness of the original Apple Watch. There is annoying delay and lag that make using it frustrating. To boot, the animations are clunky, laggy, and give the whole usability a damn near 3 out of 10. If you are someone who is impatient, or needs quick access to functions and features, this watch is not an option. Period. In fact, it's this lag in using this watch that makes us feel like this watch is a pass for pretty much anybody.
If you're in the Polar eco system, or you simply won't buy a Garmin or Apple, then this is about your best next option. But that said you're better off looking at those watches than you are the Garmin. We feel this watch is someone misguided.
The addition of the color touchscreen was supposed to give it a modern feel, but as a result it has an insufferable user experience and comparatively lackluster battery life. Looking at the watches screen is not only difficult at certain angles, but is outright outdated looking and detracts from what is otherwise a masterpiece in design. Polar should have either A: put in a faster processor and a better screen which makes the color more necessary or B: went black and white like the instinct. There is NOTHING on this watch that NEEDS a color screen.
    SHOULD I BUY ONE?
As much as it pains me to say, no. I really love the way this watch looks and I love the design THEORY that Polar is going far, but using the watch is far too clunky. It's laggy at the best of times and unresponsive at the worst of times. They did it a huge injustice with adding a near useless touch screen and we feel that in a 2.0 version of this watch that Polar needs to ditch the touch screen and add a faster processor to smooth out animations and usability.
If you need the ultimate fitness tracker but don't mind charing every night, buy the Apple Watch Series 7.
If you need the ultimate travel, camping, hiking, beat it up fitness tracker - the Instinct Solar is hard to beat.
If you need something in between, go with Garmin Fenix 6.

I've had a Polar M400 for a few years and a little bit longer a Garmin Forerunner 925. The Garmin is way faster downloading to the app or even computer while the Polar can be VERY slow. The Polar is more accurate for GPS than the Garmin however. I'm watching videos like this to upgrade to a higher end GPS Sports watch for a change! Thx for the info!

Very useful insights on the watch. Have used an Instinct happily for the past 3 years but tormented by the erratic Garmin hrm straps. Was wondering if Polar watches were as good as the hrm straps are. Looks they are not. Will have to check the platform in more detail.

None is but it also depends on the type of exercise. Chest straps are unbeatable for heart rate accuracy. Nevertheless, the Apple watches and the last generation of Huawei 3 watches are the best wrist watches in terms of heart rate accuracy.

i was thinking of buying a polar grit x pro, but the lag when using the watch is a major downside. Have there been any updates to get this problem solved, or is it still the same slow mess as you discribe?

    • @bruno_dias

The lag is only problematic on touchscreen. Buttons feel is great with a lag that is not a problem (just watch other reviews). Remember this is not a smartphone.

The phone app? Agree'd the Polar app is nicer and Garmin is due for a simplification / polishing.

@@jaroslawiwanski3063 One benefit from what I've heard is that the polar platform plays nicer across multiple watches, whereas the Garmin seems to be more geared toward "each watch". Meaning the Polar allegedly does a better job tracking and putting everything into an overall profile, while the Garmin allegedly has a harder time once you change watches.

One BIG problem with the apple watch is that is basically NEEDS an iphone. So anyone with an android or other non-apple OS is out of luck. Currently considering this vs. the Garmin lineup, but it's very frustrating since they have so many models and variations of the same model. (Not to mention their "find your watch" option is garbage.) Definitely glad you called out a concern regarding the processing power of the watch, been watching a lot of other vids, but never heard it called out. Will have to take a closer look before buying a polar or garmin.

I think it have the best accuracy but with the chest strap. Do not expect the accuracy of the heart monitor where measurements are taken from the wrist! It need the chest strap H10 for example then is unbeatable.

    • @ComputerStuff
      @ComputerStuff  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

Chest straps are objectively more reliable, yes.

Clearly an apple watch fan, no criticism from me other than I really dislike the design of the apple watch and the need of an iPhone. Great products but way over priced.

I promise you, I'm not! The Apple Watch is one of my least favorite watches (I have several videos on my opinions). That said they undoubtedly set the bar for usability in terms of integration and operation and the screen is fluid and crisp. My daily driver when I"m not reviewing the Apple Watch (or others) is a Garmin Instinct Solar 2.

One thing with Polar and I don't know why, but their swim metrics have always been off. On any Polar watch i've had (all of them minus the grit x pro) the lap count has always been way off. One thing polar just can't seem to get right for some reason. IDK. Suunto, Garmin, Coros, are all on par and accurate in that field. I also feel like Polar's UI just has a yesterday/out-dated look and feel to it. Maybe it's just me, who knows. By far the best thing Polar has going for it is their watch designs/look.

You're kinda just show your ignorance in the video. Apart from the fair touchscreen critique everything else is more or less an ignorant rant about something you really didn't test fully. Do you even know why people buy these watches? Also, you were just popping out alternatives that are also not perfect and much more expensive. That is totally useless.
