Big congratulations to Henry for winning this watch! Thanks to all of you who took the time to comment and enter the giveaway. And stay tuned and I'll try to do more of these as soon as possible! 👊
You have gifted us with an insightful review of Polar Grit X. Currently, I use Polar HR 10 Blue-tooth paired to my Samsung Note 8. Viewing heart zones in real time is quite motivating. At 75 years, I prefer Nordic walking rather than trail running. My younger daughter Ivana and I have walked some splendid trails together in nearby parks (western Montgomery County in Pennsylvania).
John, Thank you so much for taking the time to watch the review. Glad you're getting in some Nordic walking. That's fantastic. I have the H10 also and it's a great device. Polar makes nice stuff!
Running trails makes me feel closer to nature and they give me an extra relaxing bonus during my running sessions. What I love the most is when the trails take me to a river or when I run in parallel with a lake, haha I'm already thinking about my next running session.
I've always struggled to run at the beach. Still super cool if you can find some firm footing. Thanks so much for taking the time to watch and comment Donald! Good luck in the giveaway. 👍🏻
@@mlegrand beach running is definitely a struggle! But I enjoy it because it takes more effort. It's efficient, and I know my cardio and strength will be up to par when I'm on other surfaces
Excellent review! I've had the watch now for 3 weeks and I really like the overall training and recovery data and how well Polar is using it in it's own ecosystem. I came from Suunto's ecosystem (had the Suunto 7 and Suunto Spartan Sport WHR before the Grit X) and I have to say that Polar is lightyears ahead of Suunto in that department. I've also used Polar's FitSpark training suggestion (mainly the Cardio ones, for strenght and stretching I have my own) and I've developed in running more in 3 weeks with this watch than 3 years with my Suunto watches. Obviously it's not Suunto's fault in anyway, don't get me wrong, they make excellent watches but they are lacking advanced recovery data which is then utilized in various training suggestions. I'd say that most of the people like me need something like this to help them progressing in their training.
Wow Joonas! Thanks so much for commenting. Great feedback on the watch. Yeah, it’s a great watch. And I haven’t tested Suunto yet but hopefully someday. Thanks! 👌
Got the watch for the same period as you, my only complaint is the battery. GritX is advertised as a watch for ultra trail runners etc but every 4-5 days I 've got to charge it. Another two cons are the slow sync process and the lack of notifications during a training session. Of course, this polar watch remains more accurate in GPS and hr metrics than the almost double price garmin fenix 6 pros. In addition, I wouldn't go with the plasticky and pricier garmin 945. A honest review, well done Matt!
Thanks Panos! It’s super nice of you to help the group out with your feedback on your experience with the watch. Thanks for taking the time to comment. I should have mentioned the slow syncing. Maybe I’ll mention that in the Garmin comparison video. Thanks again! 👌
Trail running is definitely my go-to if I want to take a long easy run, its super calming and fun to be out for a couple of hours. I'd love to do a trail marathon one day.
Thank you for reviewing the watch! I am a college student in search of a watch that will track with the most accuracy possible for my research as I won't be able to use my school's resources due to COVID. Your video has provided me with the necessary info to narrow down my options.
Yeah, this is a great option. You're entered in the giveaway and thanks so much for watching and commenting. Best of luck with the research and school!!!
For what it’s worth. I was an early adopter of the Vantage V. I loved it. I switched to a 945 6months ago only because of the Stryd integration which is much better with Garmin. Like night and day. Other than that, I miss my Polar on an everyday basis. Hardware is great, app is just straight to the point and I never had a single bug with the watch. Plus sleep tracking is class leading. I am still very tempted to switch back to Polar and I would go for the Grit.
I’ve gotten back into running over the last 8 months I’ve started incorporating trails in an effort to get more elevation training. I think this watch is cool especially for when I do hills. Loved the video and appreciated the transparency.
I do enjoy running trails. I haven’t done it very much but have really enjoyed it so far. I’ve watched so many of these videos trying to figure out which watch would be the best for outdoors and working as a firefighter. Thanks for the great videos.
Actually, this watch would be fantastic for your job. Maybe also the Fenix 6 from Garmin? 🤔 Keep in mind all of these watches will be on sale for Black Friday if you’re big on finding a deal.
GREAT review Matt! I am going on my second month with the Polar Grit X and am still learning about all of the features. I liked all of your training examples during the video review, and yes, I subscribed. Thank you for your triathlon perspectives!
Oh man, I tried my first trail run last weekend. It was one of the hardest/rewarding experience! I'd love the Polar Grit X to continue trail running. Thanks Matt!
Awesome! Try slowing your pace and take extra breaks to soak up the views. Good luck and thanks for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Never loved to run on roads. Even then I was training for half triathlon, I always used to run in forests on trails. It keeps tour mind sharp as you have to watch out of obstakles like rocks etc but at the same time it’s like meditating. Same with the bike. It’s much more fun to go on trails than on roads for me.
Andres, Yeah, I agree. It's super nice out there on the trails. I don't do a lot of Mt biking but I'm thinking about it. 🤔 Thanks for watching and commenting buddy.
Himalayan trails are dream to every runner , I am lucky enough to have chance to do it on a regular basis. With the altitude changes , and fresh pollution less air away from city .
I used to enjoy trail running a bit until a not so obvious root tripped me up. Came down hard and never wanted to run trail again after that instance. Your video makes me want to change my mind about that episode lol.
Oh man, so sorry about that. And glad you're ok. Maybe time to give it another try? Either way, thanks for watching the video and best of luck in the giveaway! 👌
Great review thank you. I have been tossing up between the Polar Vantage V2, Polar Grit X or Fenix 6 for Triathlons. This video definitely provided some helpful info!
I might also have some comparison videos on my channel and a new video between the Vantage V2 and M2 coming this week. 👌 Thanks for watching and commenting Matt!
Gah! The one major thing that drives me nuts about the Grit X is the fact that you can't recieve phone notifications while in an activity. As a husband/dad I need to know what those text messages say! Other than that I agree with most of your points. Awesome watch for the money! Excellent review as usual 👍
Thank you! I am really enjoying your channel at the moment. The quality of your reviews are next level. Hopefully Polar will find a way to show notifications and battery life. Seems critical. Also, I don’t know if you’re eligible for the giveaway. 🤔😉
Great review! I use this watch mainly for running and I must say that the performance of the optical wrist-based heart monitor is better than I expected.
Yeah, I think it’s fine. I might try a chest strap if you’re seeing issues or need it for key workouts. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Trail running is good for the soul 👊🏼🍻 out and around Sydney and the blue mountains here in Australia as well as in BC and Alberta again when this situation is over! Also your reviews and content are great, definitely deserve and heading for a bigger sub base.
Without going through all the comments, you mentioned the water temperature, true (for whatever reason) Polar doesn't offer an on-the-fly way to display the temp, but it does record it into the file and it's viewable in Flow if you turn on that metric (off by default). Would love to win this! One other thought, you mention it being the "best so far for triathlon from Polar" (reader's digest)... in what way(s) is it better than a v800, for that specifically? I know it's added a lot of other (potentially extraneous) features, but in the regard of tris, I haven't seen any reason to consider it higher than (or a replacement for) a v800 thus far (GPS isn't as accurate, and HR depends on "optical" rather than strap sensor recording while in water, plus the form factor I'd consider less "wetsuit friendly" for pulling on/off wetsuits (the relatively smooth surfaced/profiled v800 was ideal for this). Other than that, great video, thank you, and I do think of the post-Vantage era designs, this seems to be by far the best package. To the specific question, haven't done a ton of trail running (not counting our lakeshore gravel trail) but really do enjoy it when I do (I prefer mountain-biking on the trails, LOL, so given 2 hours to do one or the other, the MTB wins usually). have done some in Oklahoma, Arkansas, and Palo Duro canyon in Texas though.
Chris, excellent point on the wetsuit form factor. I think I only wore this with a wetsuit once as the water started to get warmer over the past 2 months or so. I still think it has so many little features like fueling reminders that I'd consider it over some of Polar's other offerings. It just feels like a better daily watch if that makes sense. I think I said Polar's best watch thus far. I do expect Polar to make something more triathlon specific. And I'm sure they'll incorporate a lot of these changes into whatever's next. If they do, I'll try my best to get something and test it. (although open water might get tricky here soon 😬). You're entered for the watch. Also, thanks so much for taking the time to watch and provide meaningful feedback. I really do appreciate it!
Florian SAROCCHI - I’m thinking of making a video comparing this watch to the Garmin 945. And there are rumors of lots of watch announcements this fall. 🤷🏻♂️
@@mlegrand yeah thats why I am waiting. With the recent Coros update I hope others will bring some nice updates to the existing watches as they have the same hardware. Wait and see 😌
Great review Matt. Have been road running up till now but have slowly introducing grass to add uneven ground. Thinking of getting some Altra lone peaks so I can venture into trail running.
The Altras might be great motivation! 👍 Or just wear your road shoes on the trails. I always wear normal shoes on my trails which are pretty technical.
I haven’t done much trail running as I worry about going the wrong way. I have started dipping my toe in more lately and this is something that I want to do more and more as it’s a blast running off road!!
Love the review. Keep it up. I need a new sports watch and have been checking reviews for quite a while now. There are so many options, but I think I will finally settle on this one.
@@mlegrand Sorry Matt. I didn't mean it too harsh. I got triggered for some reason. I know you're from the US. Probably from the south? Actually, I will edit that comment. It's completely unnecessary.
@@Nomisteaks80 - I grew up in Alabama. I don't have too thick of a southern accent but I'm sure there's some issues there that are annoying. Another thing that can be a bit of a trigger is the way that the videos some times come off unnatural because I'm reading details about a specific watch. That's something I hope I'll be able to work on. And feel free to be harsh. It's the internet, I wouldn't put something online if I couldn't handle a little criticism!!!
Trail running makes me nervous because I monitor every single pebble or twig on the ground as a potential threat to my ankles. If not for that hyper-vigilance, I would much prefer the venue and softer surface for running. (I guess I just need access to well-worn trails)
Or maybe you’ll get use to monitoring and it’ll become second nature and relaxing. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand yeah, somewhat large city in europe. There is a couple of parks and a lake in the vicinity where I do my runs. Last week I ran ~55k (34 miles) with a total elevation gain of 90m (300 feet) :D
Good call! Hope can find some trails all to your self. I have one that’s busy and one that’s not Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I´d love to start doing trail running. Getting sick of running only on road pavements, and the knees sometimes complain too. Maybe this watch is a great addition for that pourpose. Nice review btw.
Yeah, great option for people Lander! Glad it's working well for you. I was impressed with the GPS accuracy and build quality. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Great review Matt! I have a Garmin so it was interesting to see how it compares to the Polar in this video :P. I really enjoyed all the cinematic shots! Keep it up!
Was very excited to see your review on the Grit X! I think the watch is beautiful, but Polar needs to work a little bit on the software interface (usability on the watch itself, maybe some customizable watch faces, barometric height, etc.).. Thanks a lot for all the effort you put into this.
Awesome Chris! I need to get into the weight room. It’s been since before quarantine. 😬 Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. Good luck in the giveaway 👌
Thinking of moving on from suunto to either polar or garmin. Thinking for my uses the grit x may be the answer. Have you compared the 5+ to the grit? Love trail running by the way, not many near me, but always a pleasure ☺️
I haven’t used Suunto yet. I’ll have to reach out to them. Coros also just announce the Pace 2 which looks nice for the price. This Grit X is excellent and then there are rumors that Garmin is going to announce something soon (745) I haven’t compared the Fenix to the Grit X but my friend Dave over at Chase The Summit has. Great channel if you want another comparison.
I actually haven't tested the instinct solar. I loved the Grit X but would love to have seen Polar update the Grit X with more of the Vantage V2 features but I was getting really accurate GPS signals from this watch and overall really enjoyed using it. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I haven't tested either of those watches for cycling but cycling isn't the most demanding activity when it comes to watches so I'd vote for the Instinct just because it's a bit more rugged and has solar. 🤷🏻♂️
@@livil363 - I'm not positive because I haven't tested the Instinct but it has a barometer for more accurate elevation data and you should be able to show the grade of the climb as you ride it as one of the metrics you can display. Sorry I don't have this watch on hand Livio. I'll try to get one in the future for testing! Thanks again for watching!
Wow, Good luck! I really think you're going to love ultra running. The community is amazing and you get to run in some of the most beautiful places on earth! Thanks you so much for taking the time to watch the video! 👍
The grit X is 6 months old and no longer receives updates and polar has already said that new features will not arrive. I don't trust companies that don't respect their consumers. Not even the recovery pro feature of the first generation of the V1 has arrived.
I agree with this. I have a video coming up in the next week or two that says almost this exact same thing. A 5 month old watch should get some updates. At least the new running tests and recovery pro from the Vantage V2 should get moved back. It's all about distinguishing this product from that V2 to justify the price difference but I think they'd be fine to move some software back and still make a clear cut. I'd love to get some reasoning from Polar on that decision. 😕
@@mlegrand A lot of complaints on social networks, Polar needs to change its update policy or it will lose support from its large community. There is no explanation for a watch as new as grit X not receiving at least the recovery pro. Remembering that it would just be a software update
Yeah, the Grit X is a great watch! I haven’t had any issues with the barometer on this watch but all barometers are highly dependent on temperatures which can change on a long day. I really want to make a video about it. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Nice and detailed review 👍🏼 Like it very much. I am not a trails guy but occasionally go for small hill running for fun with my kids. I Would like to know why are companies shifting more to Bluetooth from ant+
That’s a good question. Probably lower price, lower power consumption. Maybe it’s just trending towards more and more devices. For example cell phones all have Bluetooth but very rarely have Ant+. And that would tend to lower costs a good bit. Ant+ does have some advantages but it seems like all of the devices need to at least have Bluetooth.
Amit Gole - I would guess the scanning process of BT would be the huge battery drain. And Ant+ for sure allows more connections. One to many vs one to one.
Don't throw me into the hat for the giveaway, but I would really like to see your comparison to the 945. As always, a great video and review. Thanks, Matt!
I learned to love how to run trails during lockdown - I discovered parts of my hometown that I didn't even know existed, so much nature around here! I do have to mind my ankles, though - I tend to roll them fairly quickly, and while in my twenties this wasn't a big deal, now that I'm pushing forty... It makes for some hobbling the next day. How would you rate the GPS reception in wooded areas? My watch seems to fluctuate quite a bit speed-wise, which seems to indicate it having trouble locking on to the satellite signal.
I didn’t have any major issues in dense forest but I know that’s a standard issue with gps watches. So it may depend on how thick the forest is and tall mountain that might interfere. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Not a trail runner myself, but loved the review. I love polar products because of their durability and also the Polar Flow website is fantastic for performance analysis.
I bet. But it must be fun living in Paris. I used to go running there as a tourist. Beautiful city. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it Frederic! 👍
Yeah, it’s super hilly here also. I guess we should just ignore that pace metric. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it Oskars 👍
Hello, i bought the watch and came back to your review just to hear about swimming mode. On my watch it is doesn' t work. Open watter swimming - about 1km and watch measured 50m. I tried it again and result was the same. I think my old M430 did this better... or am i doing something wrong?
Wow, I have no idea why it would be off that much. I actually had really good good results with this watch compared to the Garmin watches that I was testing it against. I would make sure you're using the Open Water Swimming profile and then make sure that the watch finds GPS satellites before starting. I'm guessing you've already done that which makes me think that the watch might have some sort of issue and it might be worth talking to Polar about. Keep me posted on anything you learn. It's always good to have more real world feedback on these watches. Both good and bad. 👍🏻
Thanx for the video. Hope that sometime soon the watches and platforms will be more beginner friendly - I mean for people who do not know much about how to train or people trying to recover or maintain health (e.g. COPD).
Yeah, that is a huge market. I do think that they are trying to make these watches beginner friendly but when they keep adding features it gets tricky. I wonder if something from the Apple watch series might have an app that might help with COPD. 🤔 Thanks for watching and commenting!
awesome video! I um.. don’t run on trails? gonna be honest, way too scared of injuring my ankles. all rocky and rooty here in huntsville. cept the gravel roads near wheeler, but that’s what the gravel bike is for 🙃
I used to run the trails up on Montesano. There’s also the cross country park which has less rocks and roots. Either way you’re entered to win this Grit X! 👌
@@catherinemello7163 - There have been a few people that are a little hesitant about trail running. And some of those pointy rocks can really hurt. I remember hurting my foot pretty badly a few times. But it's lovely out there so I'll keep running trails.
Trail Running is difficult but the good thing about trail running is always fresh air. Well in the end I still prefer to run on the pavement early in the morning
Yeah, super early morning is tricky when it’s dark. I tend to do the same thing. Roads so I’m less likely to fall. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Well, water does a good job of blocking any connection but the H10 has on board storage just for this reason. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍 Let me know if you have any more questions or want me to test something with the H10
Did you already give the GritX away? I'm looking for a good looking fitness tracker on my wrist. I'm not trailing as I'm suffering from psoriatic arthritis....
Hi Matt, this is an extensive review. Do you still recommend buying it after a year of its first released date? I'm contemplating either get the polar grit x or polar vantage m2.
The Grit X feels like a nicer watch with a higher build quality. The software on the watch is similar between the two but the battery on the Grit X is better. I still think the Grit X is a great watch and I don’t know if any upcoming updates to this watch. I would pick between the size and weight. If you like smaller, M2. If you like a little larger and nicer build quality, the Grit X.
Dude, sorry to hear about your ankle. Hopefully you’ll win this to take the edge off a little. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
i love to run trails, as i'm developing my skills as ultra trail runner, alredy finished some tough test as "travesera picos de europa" 75k and over 13000m through hard and technical mountain terrain... Would be great a garmin comparison, but i must confess i'm a great polar fan as i've just retire my old RC3! (after 7 years was still delivering above 13 hrs os battery) xD Great review, greets from Spain!
I want to get this watch, but some reviewers say you can't turn the watch off. Is this true? Can the screen go into sleep mode or something of the sort when not in use?
I think if you hold down the red button it’ll turn off. You’ve got to be a little careful with how long you hold it because it’ll start back up again from the same button. I agree that turning it off is not as intuitive as Garmin. 👍
Great review! A quick question: How do you assess the all-day calorie estimation on this device compared to the Ignite and Vantage series? Unrealistically genorous all-day calorie readings seems to have been a much discussed issue online with the aforementioned watches.
That’s their Smart Calories feature? I think any of these types of calorie estimates are going to be interesting to glance at and maybe motivational but I don’t take it too seriously. I know a lot of people try to take Garmin’s VO2 max numbers seriously but these estimations are just that, estimations. I would expect them to be pretty far off from reality.
I only have ran a few trails due to the distance I need to travel to get to them. I prefer just getting ready in the house and running the road, however, if there are a few people going I'll not say no.
Yeah, that's understandable. One of the cool things about running is how quick and easy it is to go do. Thanks for watching and commenting. I really do appreciate it! 👌
I had issues with the barometric pressure gauge breaking in the 935. Other than that it was a great watch. I would also suggest waiting until Black Friday to see what kind of best deals you might be able to find. I'd probably lean towards the Grit X if I had to pick between those two. I really like the sleep tracking data. There might even be other watches worth checking out here soon. Thanks so much for watching Ryan!
I don't remember checking calories burned details. That's always hard to test because there is not exact way to get the correct number. How's the rest of the watch? Are you thinking about returning it?
@@mlegrand my experience is calories burn are 20%+.I will do some difrent personal data setings, hart rate max,min,VO2max to get more precise data....When i test vo2max it's showing 59 and that is not true.I have Xiaomi lite 11 5g and after one disconnect with watch i need to restart my phone to connect again. With Huawei i don't have problem.I buy watch for on sale for 160 USD i will not turn it back. Its good gps and i need it to don't burn my battery mobile phone with gps record.Watch is ok but i will never give 430 USD,this is my first gps, next will be Garmin instinct solar or Fenix 6 pro
I don’t have this watch to confirm any more but on the Vantage V2 you can so I would assume that this is the same. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
That is correct. It does. Have a compass and barometer on the watch. You don’t have access to the compass through the widgets like you get with Garmin but it does have it as part of its navigation features. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand Hi Mat, This was the First video I saw off your Channel. I am doubting to buy a Polar grit x sow the video was helpfull! I am a triatleet (LD and Xterra), trailrunner and an alpinist... Is it correct that you can only see the compas and the alltitude during training mode? Regards Lieven
@@lievenjoos1929 - Yes that is correct. Thanks so much for checking out some of the videos on the channel. I would love to try some Xterra triathlons. I love trail running!
A 66g watch?! As a 240# triathlete, I wouldn't even notice that weight. LOL Great review. Seems like a great watch more inline with Garmin's Vivo or Venu lines, as opposed to the Fenix or Forerunner lines. I find it funny that you DISLIKED the lack of notifications during an activity; I have that feature shut off on my 920XT, specifically to avoid dealing with them! I'm totally impressed at the turnaround time from getting some of your B-Roll to me seeing the video; I saw "Saturday, 8/29" for the date... barely 24 hours! You have me feelin' like a slacker with my three to four days. LMAO As for trail running, sadly, I don't do much. There's none near me that are well kept or open for public use. There is a local "park" about three miles from my house that has a really nice boardwalk set into a stand of mangrove trees on the edge of a tributary to the Pasquatank River (my favorite OWS locale). I wish I could do more, though!
Ok, so much to unpack here. . . I think if you had 66g on one arm and 50 on the other you'd notice. Lack of notifications - I'd love to have the OPTION to turn it on or off. I'd leave it on when I blow off work and go for a lunch run or something. As for the fast turn around time . . . This video took me 100 days to make. 😂 Some of the b-roll is from March. The trail running is good for the sole. Hopefully you'll get more opportunities. Best of luck with the giveaway. It'd be cool to see you review this watch on your channel. Fair enough! I'm kind of glad to see a few people say they're not huge on trails. If you're big into triathlons, I'd wait until they update the Vantage series watches with some of these same features from the Grit X. (or win this grit X 🤔) Also, I am expecting big discounts on some of these watches on Black Friday. I am with you on the Ignite. I don't think it's the ideal watch for what we like to do.
@@mlegrand I just could not see the Ignite in daylight. When would you guess that Polar comes out with the next version of the Vantage? I think it came out in November but I'm not sure if they update once a year or not. I'm definitely waiting for Black Friday. Good idea on that one!
I don’t have any details about any updates to the Vantage but I really hope it happens. Seems like a lot of these features should move towards the Vantage series.
Thanks for the review of the Grit X, I am an ultramarathon cyclist but it seems no one really talks about cyclists when it comes to the Polar watches. I own an original Accurex II and want to get something newer. Which Polar would be best for me? do you recommend the Grit X or the Vantage?
As a triathlete who also runs trails, the Grit X would seem a perfect fit for me. But the Polar eco-system has some major gaps (e.g. a modern cycling computer).
Yeah, I'd love to see them try another cycling computer but I don't know if that'll happen. Thanks for checking out this video and good luck in the giveaway!

A trail marathon would be great. Or maybe a 50k. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Running trails is generally softer and shadier - two strong positives. I would like to see the comparison to the 945.
I’m on it! 👌
Awesome Ruben!!! Glad you’re getting back into running. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👌
Thanks Matt, I’ll wait till Black Friday before I buy. Great channel!
Running trails is great, especially my knees love them compared to concrete. Plus running through the woods always feels so calming
I completely agree. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
GREAT review Matt! I am going on my second month with the Polar Grit X and am still learning about all of the features. I liked all of your training examples during the video review, and yes, I subscribed. Thank you for your triathlon perspectives!
Wow, thank you so much! I really appreciate you taking the time to watch and comment. Hope you’re enjoying that new watch!!! 👍
Trail running and taking a ride with my mountain bike is my next bet. Nice review! Keep it like this!
Will do! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Lived in the blue ridge and ran trails for the majority of my runs. At the beach now but still love finding new trails to run
That’s fantastic! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I love trial running, I find the new functions such as the water reminders very useful which I now miss in the polar vanage m.
Yeah, they need to start thinking about updating the Vantage series. The water / food reminders is a cool update!
Dang, I’m jealous 😃.
yes! love trial running, started no long ago...still trying...now looking for a running watch to monitor datas..and hr.
This one would be a great option! I’m guessing there will also be some deals around Black Friday if you can hold off. 👌
I just started running trails ^^
Love your content, keep doing what your doing. Thank you !!
Wow, thank you so much. Will do! 👌
What a great replacement to my surge😂😂😂
When it says as a rough or tough watch, it must be really good, like its prize. Good info, Matt.
Thanks Rizky, and thanks for watching and commenting! 👍
Loving the quality of your vids man! the intro was slick 👌🏻 This watch looks banging!
Thanks mate! It’s a nice watch.
Trail running is my way to escape from the everyday life! I love it...
Me too! Thanks for checking out this video. I really appreciate it 👍
I love running trails and I’m super keen to run with the polar grit x! Great video Matt!
Awesome Matt! Thanks for checking out the video and commenting. I’ll also have a video comparing it to the Garmin 945. Best of luck in the giveaway! 👍
love running on trails it is easier on my old joints. Love all your videos Matt very informative & inspiring. Thanks for all you do.
Wow, that is so nice of you say!
Wow, that is super nice of you to say. And I agree about trail running being good for the sole! I just need to make a good trail running video. 🤔
I love trail running, especially given the fact that I live next to a large and hilly forest where I can run every day.
Me too. I’m so lucky to live where I do. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Trail Running is amazing especially here in Corsica. Good explanation on Hill Splitter. Thx for this review
Wow, that sounds awesome. I’d love to visit some day. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Thx. Maybe I'll do the switch from Garmin. An ultra runner from Corsica is sponsored by Polar and is running with the Grit X 😊
Wait and see 😌
Trail running is what it’s all about! Really interested in this new Polar
Yeah, it’s a solid option. Thanks for watching 👍
I like to do easy to medium trail running. Hiking when doing difficult trails. Thank you for the review !!
That's the way to do it! Thanks for checking out the video and good luck with the giveaway! 👍
I love trail running, Change of scenery & nature is great. And it's never boring. PS... thanks for all the great info and reviews.
You are very welcome Jim! Thanks for taking the time to watch these videos and comment. Good luck in the giveaway! 👍🏻
Great review. I love trail running. The polar grit x seems like the perfect companion for long trail runs.
Yes, it’s perfect for that. You’re entered for the giveaway. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I haven’t done much trail running as I worry about going the wrong way. I have started dipping my toe in more lately and this is something that I want to do more and more as it’s a blast running off road!!
Hope you enjoy it buddy! Thanks for watching and commenting. Hope you win! 👍
I run trails only because I know it'll help me with hiking but I think a flat paved trail is more enjoyable. Great video
Awesome Brian! Thanks for commenting!
Love the review. Keep it up. I need a new sports watch and have been checking reviews for quite a while now. There are so many options, but I think I will finally settle on this one.
Sorry, I guess? I'm from the United States. Glad you like the review. I don't know if I can change the way I talk at my advanced age. 🤷♂️
I love trail running! Surprisingly there are many to chose from in and around Toronto with the ravine system.
I don’t think I’ve ever run those trails. Adding it to my list. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I like trail running because I get that "green bath"-effect for a brighter mood ^^
Forest bathing 👌 Thanks for commenting Fredrik!
Another brilliant review video, thanks! Polar Grit X sounds like a great watch
Wow, thank you Priya! Too kind. 👍
no trails around here, unfortunately. I should really make a trip and find some before the summer is gone for good.
Where do live? Big city? Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand yeah, somewhat large city in europe. There is a couple of parks and a lake in the vicinity where I do my runs. Last week I ran ~55k (34 miles) with a total elevation gain of 90m (300 feet) :D
neuschf - not a ton of climbing but sometimes the flat stuff is good also. 👍
Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, I am looking for remote places to run or ride a bike and this is making me like the trail environment 😅🚵🏻
Yeah, find some nice soft trails and see if it helps. Thanks for watching and commenting Helder! I really do appreciate it. 👍🏻
Love trail running. This would be great for my ultramarathon when they run live again
It would be perfect for that race! Thanks for watching!
Congrats for this video! The watch is really fantastic!
Yeah, great option for people Lander! Glad it's working well for you. I was impressed with the GPS accuracy and build quality. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
I love cycling and trail running, so it's perfect for me....THNX Matt!
Awesome Scott, yeah this watch would be a good option! I really appreciate you checking out the video and commenting. 👍
i think suunto and garmin are better. so do you bought the grit x ?
Great review Matt! I have a Garmin so it was interesting to see how it compares to the Polar in this video :P. I really enjoyed all the cinematic shots! Keep it up!
Thanks Calin, I was planning on make a video comparing this watch to the Garmin 945. Thanks so much for watching buddy! 👍
Was very excited to see your review on the Grit X! I think the watch is beautiful, but Polar needs to work a little bit on the software interface (usability on the watch itself, maybe some customizable watch faces, barometric height, etc.).. Thanks a lot for all the effort you put into this.
Thanks! And thanks for watching and commenting.
I love to lift weights but been going out to the trails more and more. Love the watch.
What a great review!. One question, between the polar grit x and the garmin instinct solar, which one do you prefer?
I actually haven't tested the instinct solar. I loved the Grit X but would love to have seen Polar update the Grit X with more of the Vantage V2 features but I was getting really accurate GPS signals from this watch and overall really enjoyed using it. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand thanks you 👌
Hello Matt LeGrand, congratulations for the channel...for cycling, this is better, the Garmin instict solar or the FR245?
I haven't tested either of those watches for cycling but cycling isn't the most demanding activity when it comes to watches so I'd vote for the Instinct just because it's a bit more rugged and has solar. 🤷🏻♂️
@@mlegrand L'instint solar tells you the slope while you go up with the bike ??
@@livil363 - I'm not positive because I haven't tested the Instinct but it has a barometer for more accurate elevation data and you should be able to show the grade of the climb as you ride it as one of the metrics you can display. Sorry I don't have this watch on hand Livio. I'll try to get one in the future for testing! Thanks again for watching!
@@mlegrand thank you very much for all the info .... Coros pace 2 how do you rate it for cycling?
@@livil363 - It's fine for cycling. It won't connect and display my Varia Radar like my Garmin will do but that's about my only complaint.
Looks like an awesome watch! I have just signed up for my first ultra in Oct and this watch would be an awesome training tool
Wow, Good luck! I really think you're going to love ultra running. The community is amazing and you get to run in some of the most beautiful places on earth! Thanks you so much for taking the time to watch the video! 👍
@@mlegrand thanks heaps! Got my first Marathon in three weeks and then my focus will be the ultra!! I can't wait
Most recent update was in January 2021 - see the Polar support page
I like running trails because it’s a fun way to stay fit and stay connected to nature!
I agree. Thanks for checking out the video! 👍
Hey Henry! Congratulations, you have won the Polar Grit X. Can you send me a private message on Instagram so that I can get your address?
Matt LeGrand Ahhhhh, no way that’s awesome! I will send you a message on IG, thank you!! 🙏🏼
Thanks for the reply Matt, fair point with Bluetooth but doesn’t it drain the battery more as compared to ant+ also ant+ imo has better connectivity
Amit Gole - I would guess the scanning process of BT would be the huge battery drain. And Ant+ for sure allows more connections. One to many vs one to one.
I’m lucky to live in beautiful mid-Wales; surrounded by beautiful trails. I love them! I’m also clumsy so would love a Grit X
Alright Vicky, you are entered. Post pictures of those trails some time. 👌📸👍
Love running trails, love the forest and the fresh air

Don't throw me into the hat for the giveaway, but I would really like to see your comparison to the 945. As always, a great video and review. Thanks, Matt!
No problem! Thanks for always watching these Dove! I really appreciate it 👌
I learned to love how to run trails during lockdown - I discovered parts of my hometown that I didn't even know existed, so much nature around here!
Sham, this watch would work fine for you off trails also. Thanks for watching and thanks for entering the giveaway! 👍
I do love running trails but it’s getting morte difficult since living in Paris! It was much simpler back in Britanny
I bet. But it must be fun living in Paris. I used to go running there as a tourist. Beautiful city. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it Frederic! 👍
Not a big trail runner but love Polar fitness watches for other sports and HR tracking.
Awesome! Yeah, Polar has always been one of the best when it comes to HR tracking!
Thank you for your review. I like trail running except the fact that hilly terrains are killing my legs
Trail running clears your head and lets you forget the stress of the day
Patrick, I agree! Thanks for taking the time to comment 👍
Scrolled all the way through the comments to see if others were also nervous about rocks.
Sounds fun for trail running or cycling, but it probably doesn’t connect to my H10 in the water, does it?

@@mlegrand haha noooo , after this giveaway please 😂 😂✌
Hi Matt, this is an extensive review. Do you still recommend buying it after a year of its first released date? I'm contemplating either get the polar grit x or polar vantage m2.
The Grit X feels like a nicer watch with a higher build quality. The software on the watch is similar between the two but the battery on the Grit X is better. I still think the Grit X is a great watch and I don’t know if any upcoming updates to this watch. I would pick between the size and weight. If you like smaller, M2. If you like a little larger and nicer build quality, the Grit X.
@@mlegrand Thanks for your suggestion, this really help.

i love to run trails, as i'm developing my skills as ultra trail runner, alredy finished some tough test as "travesera picos de europa" 75k and over 13000m through hard and technical mountain terrain...
Would be great a garmin comparison, but i must confess i'm a great polar fan as i've just retire my old RC3! (after 7 years was still delivering above 13 hrs os battery) xD Great review, greets from Spain!

Alvaro Martin - Wow
I want to get this watch, but some reviewers say you can't turn the watch off. Is this true? Can the screen go into sleep mode or something of the sort when not in use?
I think if you hold down the red button it’ll turn off. You’ve got to be a little careful with how long you hold it because it’ll start back up again from the same button. I agree that turning it off is not as intuitive as Garmin. 👍
Till now I haven't tried trail running but Im thinking more and more to give it a try soon
Yeah, give it a try. Don’t take the min/mile too seriously. Just enjoy the environment 👌
Is that better than old Garmin 935 ? I'm looking for 935 but worry about sensor crack.I only focus on running thanks for advice
Nice review! Running, MTB, hiking and swimming is what i like to do with Polar watch, my old m430 are not ideal for all that
Grit X might be a great option! Thanks for watching and commenting!
I buy this watch and just for a 3,5 miles walk i burned 430kcla and that is too much.Did you have that problem?
Hi. Can someone let me know if the music control can be used while doing a workout?
I don’t have this watch to confirm any more but on the Vantage V2 you can so I would assume that this is the same. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand thanks Matt. I want to say congrats for your videos. I enjoy those intros and the video of course. Fascinated with your effort.
@@amircastilla07 - thank you so much Amir 🙏
The website says that there is a kompas and barometer on it....
That is correct. It does. Have a compass and barometer on the watch. You don’t have access to the compass through the widgets like you get with Garmin but it does have it as part of its navigation features. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
@@mlegrand Hi Mat,
This was the First video I saw off your Channel. I am doubting to buy a Polar grit x sow the video was helpfull! I am a triatleet (LD and Xterra), trailrunner and an alpinist... Is it correct that you can only see the compas and the alltitude during training mode?
Regards
Lieven
@@lievenjoos1929 - Yes that is correct. Thanks so much for checking out some of the videos on the channel. I would love to try some Xterra triathlons. I love trail running!
A 66g watch?! As a 240# triathlete, I wouldn't even notice that weight. LOL
Great review.
LMAO
As for trail running, sadly, I don't do much.
Also, I'll be doing a series of videos on TH-cam stuff. Some of it might be interesting to you. Thanks for watching buddy 👍🏻
@@mlegrand I actually look forward to being in a position to review electronic gear! Not quite there, yet. I'm doing reviews, now of things I have on hand, and focusing on just getting better all around.
I look forward to seeing some TH-cam stuff from you; I'm already getting ideas and learning from you as is.
Keep on keepin' on, man!
@@TheCelticClydesdaleShow - Thanks buddy!
I actually don’t like running trails. I do like the multi sports profiles that Polar offers. I tried the Ignite, but it didn’t work out. So, I am thinking of either this or the Vantage M. Nice video!
Matt LeGrand Nice. Let’s see what happens then. Thanks!
Thanks for the review of the Grit X, I am an ultramarathon cyclist but it seems no one really talks about cyclists when it comes to the Polar watches. I own an original Accurex II and want to get something newer. Which Polar would be best for me? do you recommend the Grit X or the Vantage?
Glad it was helpful! Keep me posted on what you're leaning towards. After our previous chats, maybe that Vantage V2 with the H10 HR strap bundle.
@@mlegrand I know that's the way to go! Thank you for all your help Matt. I am a subscriber!
@@theodorelife6883 - Thanks so much Theodore! I really appreciate it!
I love running trails, especially for my long runs and discover some new paths. Way less boring than running on the road 😉
Julien, so true! Thanks for commenting 👍
I don't mind trails, but my Knees and Ankles don't seem to feel the same way :)
Maybe there’s an easier trail or dirt road that would help? Either way you’re entered and I really appreciate you watching and commenting Yonah!
@@mlegrand I do run on some 'softer' trails, but 95% of my runs are on paved surfaces
Never run trails in competitions, but hope to do it soon!
Yeah, trail races are tricky because it can get hard to pass. Good luck in the giveaway and thanks for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍
Hello from Italy,i like trail running but i start now with trail, and i run only 15 20 km
I’ve run some trails in Italy. It was difficult! Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it Alessio!
@@mlegrand we have a lot of mountain in Italy, but are so strong... beautiful but strong
Definitely into trailrunning and mountaneering
Oh yeah! Brenden, this watch would be a solid option for you. Thanks for checking out this video and taking the time to comment. Best of luck in the giveaway! 👍🏻
@@mlegrand definitely would, thanks!
