    When I saw this pop up I was thinking... Ok Garmin, looks like it's time to answer with the Fenix 7... I don't think this watch forces that. The exclusion of ANT+ is just dumb, they continue to double down on that decision and in doing so, they are definitely just turning off a good portion of potential customers. No dynamic metrics from run and bike sensors is a dealbreaker, and those users are the ones who are an easy sell for a $600 watch.
    It was cute in 2018 people were saying BLE would "kill" ANT+. Not hearing that anymore, they figured out how brilliant ANT+ was for fitness data and quietly hid behind the bushes. Polar doesn't want to let that due... It's a shame, because I do think they make great watches, but I will never buy one.
    That kind of behavior only earns them an old ripped wrapper from the melted stick of butter Garmin earned last week. 😅

      the only on who supports ANT is Garmin as they owned it, no Suunto, no Polar, no TomTom, no Coros, no Apple, no Fitbit, no Samsung using ANT in their watches so yes ANT is a properitery niche , that Garmin supports now BTLE sensor on their watches shows they heard the shots...

      @@tfa8 Wait Garmin owns the Ant+ radio transmission protocol? Almost all cycling companies use it. It’s an excellent option for one to many data transmission.

      I think running power has been on a lot of the Polar watches for a bit now. It's a super nice feature. I'm surprised Garmin hasn't done it or maybe done something similar and called it power estimation or something. 🤷🏻‍♂️ Thanks for watching this one!

      @@mlegrand don’t tell the others but I watched yours first because I wanted as many quality shots of the watch up close as I can get! :-) Question, does the new adjustable backlight feature mean that if you set it to high and then just do a generic wrist raise will it give full backlight? I didn't even think about Harry's intro music. Hope he doesn't mind if I borrow it. I feel like I hear all the same Epidemic sound music surfing around TH-cam. 😬
      I think this series of watches is going to fall into that same Fenix series category of outdoor watches. This doesn't have onboard music, mapping or a few other features that the Garmin has but it has pretty much all of Polar's top of the line features.

  • @Maroonight
    @Maroonight 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thanks for the review. After watching your video and knowing Kofuzi uses the non-Pro version, I'm really thinking about this, but now I think the problem for me is not which watch/fitness electronics has more features but the eco-system. It appears to me that most big brands' watches (Polar, Wahoo, Garmin, COROS...) can't go wrong, but the nature of multisport make purchasing a harder choice. E.g, if I have a Wahoo trainer and bike computer, should I continue to invest in Wahoo brand? Would Polar have any problems working with my setup? If I have a mixed-brand inventory, how's the data sharing among them so that the data would actually work together to make sense of my training/recovery? Of course I can pay for Strava/Today's Plan, etc to have a central data hub, but more monthly payment on my budget T_T. Maybe the fundamental problem is just I need to make more money...

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      This is a valid concern but the good news is most of these devices play well together. I know Ko loves Polar and the Flow app for tracking data. It’s a solid option. But because you do more triathlon style workouts, you might miss the Ant+ options on Polar.
      There are some very small things that are unique to wahoo’s rival watch and their computers. They have a hand off feature but I wouldn’t worry about that one feature. I’d look at all the brands and see what might work best. I’m always around for more help if you need anything.
      And Yes, make more money. 😂

    This is a great video. Super well done and informative. Thank you for that. The one comment I have is consistent with many other Polar Grit X reviews I've seen. I don't understand why everyone is comparing the Polar wrist HR monitor to chest straps or optical arm straps. I want to know how it compares to other optical wrist HR monitors. How does the Polar Grit X Pro optical HR monitor compare the the Garmin Fenix 6 wrist optical HR monitor or the Suunto or the Apple Watch. Comparing apples to oranges doesn't give me any indication as to how that monitor actually works because they are completely different. So, this isn't a complaint. It's just a suggestion. It would be so much more useful to see one optical wrist HR monitor compared to another, even though we all know they won't do as well as the chest straps. I subscribed because of this video, so thank you so much!

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thank you Kris! I think the reason people compare these to chest straps is because they are a known good value. So we're seeing how much this deviates from a 'correct' value. But I can see value in comparing it to other wrist optical heart rate monitors to see how it fares against similar competition. Thank you for watching and taking the extra time to comment. I really appreciate it. 👍

    I'm loving that you've resorted to wearing watches on both arms!
    I have to admit that I feel @'d by the core/mobility comment!
    I have to be honest... I'm not feeling particularly excited about this watch. The awesome sleep and recovery metrics you get from this can be had with any Polar watch. I'm just not seeing why I'd want to jump on this vs. a less pricey Polar model. Perhaps I'm being too brutal, here, but I feel like you've made a great video about a lackluster watch.

    • @mlegrand
      @mlegrand  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Actually you probably do significantly more core than I do. I think I’ve only done yoga once since we chatted about it last.
      Polar does make some more affordable options that do sleep, fitspark ect. But the build quality is so much better on the V2, and this Grit x series. And for the stuff you do, you’d probably prefer something more outdoorsy.
      Hope all is well! 👍

      I take, now, two yoga classes a week, plus a few sel-guided flows a week.
      I would prefer, need really, something with a good build quality (for when my 920XT finally decided it has had enough). All of the steel and (as cool as it is) titanium bodied watches annoys me. Metal plus electricity isn't good, sometimes.

    Thank you for great review! But Polar disappoints me more and more. Since introduction of Vantage M and V all Polar watches have almost identical hardware and slightly improved software. The appearance of backlight adjustment in 2021 is a great achievement. No maps, no music and old low resolution display. All new features can be easily added as a software update to Vantage V and M. But Polar refused to continue updating these models for at least year and a half.
