I used to sweat so much in my sleep since stopping drinking I sleep right through the night and the sweats stopped instantly.
    No heartburn
    No poorly belly
    Lost loads of weight
    More money in my pocket
    Skin issues fixed
I so wish I stopped along time ago.
Lifes beautiful sober and really not as scary as you think.

Well, here's the thing... I'm 70 now. Quit drinking alcohol a little over six months ago. It was surprisingly easy. Really! What I miss is chances to socialize in settings that are alcohol-centric, not just bars. For example, I'm going to my local social club's monthly wine tasting event in a couple months. I will be bringing a bottle of non-alcoholic juice. It should be interesting. (I can successfully go to bars, and my temptation level is close to ZERO.)

As a 57 year old man, I do believe that the damage to our bodies caused by alcohol are dismissed because of our age. Although I started drinking as a teenager, I also got into fitness then so the damage isn't so prevalent with me. However, I'm aware of it and just didn't feel good after drinking anymore. I drank heavy in my late teens throughout my early 30s. I tapered down quiite a bit in the last 20 years or so. I only really drank on my off days. Nevertheless, I like how I feel without alcohol now. In fact, I did dry January and have remain alcohol free 10 days in the second month of 2024 and it feels great. I plan on continuing this alcohol free journey.

I agree. I’m not an alcohol by any means. But when I got older, over 55, I noticed I get too dehydrated, didn’t sleep as well, tired the whole next day. In short, it took too much to recover.

I'm 58 and stopped drinking three months ago thanks to Simon's book. My quantity remained the same, but over the last five years the mental pain was hell. It definitely gets worse as you get older.

If you have to pee a lot with drinking water, it’s often because you don’t have enough minerals (particularly sodium ) to get the water into your cells. Put a bit of good quality sea salt on your tongue before drinking or some mineral supplements. Great video thanks!

It's not that more old people are drinking it is that the larger cohort of drinkers gets older. The ones that are still alive. When you get to your late fifties it is definitely time to stop. What more can booze actually do for you at this stage? It just gets harder and harder for the body to deal with.

Glad to know alcohol can cause arthritis. Good reason to stop

    • @besober
      @besober  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Alcohol doesn't necessarily cause arthritis, but it robs the body of vital nutrients, such as magnesium, calcium and Vitamin D, both of which are essential to preventing arthritis and inflammation. So yes, it's a very good reason to give it up.

I realised this morning that during the day my confidence came from the alcohol (often 1 or 2 bottles of red per day) that is in my system. I'm a relatively insecure-ish person when talking sober.

I've realized it's better not to talk than drink. Don't listen either if you don't want to. Alcohol just makes it tolerable to listen to drunk people. FInd hobbies.

Simon. We use both sofa and couch in the US. My choice is to continue to drink my one to two glasses of wine daily for my remaining years. I can't imagine drinking two bottles per day. That would knock me out. I guess people have different capacities.

For sure...58 and judgment more impaired , just more dumb. Takes 5 to 7 days to fully recover from hangover . From 30 , I noticed hangovers were harder to recover from now even worse and the feeling of being drunk just isn't fun anymore.
