Before burying put a large plastic bag over it. The galvanised locking rings will corrode if buried, I used to use these for storing blasting sand and left some outdoors and the locking rings busted because of corrosion. But great channel, great prize and great content, loved the crossbow comparisons 👍😉
Can always vaseline them but vaselines a valuable commodity so weigh up if worth it.
But it has a rubber seal and all the dirt on top should be enough to maintain a seal or no?
Another thing to remember is that oxidation needs oxygen to happen. So depending on how deep and in what substrate you bury it in could also make a difference.
@@mikaellindqvist5599 I meant coat the steel band in vaseline to prevent corrosion 👍
What about condensation inside the plastic bag, won't that cause corrosion as well.
Maybe put some moisture absorbers into the bag and seal the bag to the barrel?

Tip for anyone burying stashy caches in these,
Pack as full as possible so as little air as possible is in it.
Get a bit of thick polystyrene sheet or old sofa foam and pack the top to the brim.
Secure your lid.
Tie straps to the handles longer than the height of the barrel.
Diggy diggy hole.
Put a bin liner over the top and put the barrel on its side by the hole.
You can put a few rocks in the hole now if you want to lift the barrel slightly.
Lower the barrel in UPSIDE DOWN using straps to lower gently.
Put straps inside binliner and secure the liner twice,
Tie a loop round the neck and cinch then doubleback the excess bag neck and lash round again.
Cover over as you wish and mark on your map.
Either mark it as something innocuous that you know is a code (Gooseberry bus for example) or use the peg mark system,
Stash is marked say by a bridge so anyone who gets your map thinks the stash is there and won't find it (Unless you fake a dugup already look)
but you know that once at the bridge you look for a wierdshaped tree, a certain branch on the tree points in x direction and 50feet in that line is a rock where your stash actually is. 🤘
