I never felt the famous "ring of fire" when my baby was crowning. It was my first labor, a home delivery, no meds and my baby had a 99% head size. The nurse in the room kept telling me "I know honey, you're feeling the ring of fire and it's totally normal" she said it repeatedly 😠. I finally told her to please stop saying that because I was NOT feeling what she was saying and that was stressing me out. I encourage all women to talk about your positive labor experiences instead of emphasizing the negative moments which are not always true for everyone. It only creates unnecessary fear, especially in first time moms. Labor can be a beautiful event if you really want it to be.
I definitely had the ring of fire in a sense--but it was a relief from contractions. It was a burning sensation but not nearly has severe as I expected. I went into labor underestimating the pain of contractions and overestimating the pain of delivery.
My last baby was a precipitous labor and I gave birth alone in my living room while my other kiddos slept upstairs. As scary as it was initially when I accepted we wouldn't make it to the hospital in time for delivery, it was so much more comfortable and peaceful than my other births just being able to let my body do its thing how it felt best. I delivered her standing and her head came out with a contraction and she was crying before I finished pushing her shoulders out. I nursed her until my parents and paramedics arrived. She was perfect and I didn't tear one bit, I give alot of credit to relaxing and not tensing my muscles in the situation and being able to let my baby and body choose my positioning instead of a doctor.
@@ashleychuks You will be amazing! Your body will do whatever it needs to do in order to get your baby out safely and healthy. I wish you a safe & tear free labor! 🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾🙏🏾 Praying you have a Healthy Delivery ❤ My first was stillborn, I lost Her last September and I found out on my due date that I’m pregnant again 11weeks Today 🥹✨
Hoping your pregnancy is going well ❤️ I had a miscarriage due to a seatbelt accident last January and I’m now pregnant again, this January. Also so scared of miscarriage, but putting this baby in God’s hands and being as careful as possible.
Amen, I hope you have your rainbow baby this time ❤️ 🥹 I am now almost 21 weeks and my worries about miscarriage have come better... I feel my baby kicking already ❤️❤️❤️

German midwife here: Thank you for this video!! So important for the moms to know this. Especially choosing the right position during birth is so important! Not being flat and horizontal (in supine position on the bed) but upright and in vertical position helps prevent tearing immensely, it also helps bring the baby down much faster and opens up the cervix quicker, due to gravity helping. Thirdly it helps easing the pain, because you are not pushing up (when in supine position you are literally pushing up in the air around you pelvic bones) but when upright you are pushing down, the same direction your baby is heading, which creates less pain. It makes so much sense to choose an upright position! All those movies and videos of women pushing flat on their back with their legs strapped are incredibly unhelpful as a source of information. Please remember this when going into labour and choose positions like standing, squatting, kneeling, all-fours-position or the birthstool. By the way, labouring in water or a water birth are also preventing tears, because the warm water softens the perineal tissue and helps it stretch better!
My last baby was a precipitous labor so I ended up giving birth by myself in my living room while my other kiddos were asleep in their beds 😴 I felt so much more comfortable leaning against something or on all 4s while contracting and I ended up birthing my daughter while standing. Lowered my pants to about my knees which helped to support as I caught her. Then I nursed her until my parents arrived to assist along with the ambulance. I didn't tear at all which I feel has alot to do with not being forced to stay in one (unnatural in my opinion) position.
Thank you for the info! Can you pick your position when you're giving birth at hospital? I'm 6 weeks pregnant, my very first time and I have no idea what to expect tbh.
Congratulations mommy,my twin boys are 8 years old and now I just found out am 22 weeks pregnant,I have a scan booked later this week to check if it's a singleton or twins

@@vyaptimehra I did. At 39 years old. I stopped trying and gave up and once I didn’t care boom I’m pregnant and it stuck this time. Life is too crazy. It’s better not to want things sometimes lol
During my first daughter's labor, I was so worried about tearing and POOPING! Lol I remember the doctor telling me I wasn't pushing enough and I blurted out my 2 fears. They told me not to think about that. I pushed her out a few minutes after that. When I was in the recovery room a nurse that was there during my labor came in and said she wanted to let me know I didn't poop or tear. We couldn't stop laughing.
A midwife 20 years ago told me to massage my perineum when bathing or showering etc. I have given birth 6x vaginally with the biggest being over 9lb. No tears at all. I don’t know if the massaging helped but I know it hasn’t happened to me. I have also never ‘actively pushed’ I have always allowed the contractions to do the work. One of the other bits of advice I was given was try not to tense up, open your palms when in pain don’t clench the fists.
Thanks for your different videos. I’ve learned a lot. I’m due in 6days I’m scared 😟 first pregnancy 🤰 May the Almighty make it easy for all pregnant mama
I'm 14 weeks and according to the NIPT testing I had done I'm having a girl. This is my first pregnancy my husband and I have been trying for a baby for the last 5 & a half years we was told my husband couldn't have kids so I truly believe this is a miracle baby ❤️🤗
I just delivered my almost 8 pound baby four days ago with no tearing. I laid on my side up on an incline, and breathe him down and out. I’ve slowly pushed twice to deliver his head, then I stopped pushing and waited for my next contraction to slowly push out his shoulders and then the rest of his body. I worked my best to remain calm, and I believe that staying home and working with my body is what prevented me from tearing. Also, my midwife applied a warm compress to me as I was stretching to help the muscles. We got this ladies!
Great advice here! I delivered my daughter without any pain medication and I didn’t tear!!! I breathed my baby down and out!! No pushing necessary. 🙌🏽🙌🏽
@@daisyromero2481 on TH-cam there are many trainings on how to do it. I would say it is similar to the breathing technique you use to blow out candles on a birthday cake 🎂
I have had 6 natural births no pain relief and no tears 😊 I squatted for babies 2-6, didn't know about that with my first, it made a massive difference and makes you feel alot more in control.
Had my baby girl almost 11 months ago now, I didn’t tear fortunately and also no stretch marks. Not planning on having anymore, but I think my labor was kind of easy compared to others experiences that I’ve heard. Thank god😭😂
Had my first baby delivered virginally on 7 Jan. 2022, and all the nurses said they were surprised with how fast the deliver went, that there was no tearing, and that I delivered naturally. I thought it was just stuff they said at every delivery so took it with a grain of salt, then realized they were being honest after I started telling friends about the delivery and saw they were all amazed as well. I really got lucky! 😬
I'm due in January with my first baby girl 🥰 you've convinced me for sure not to get an epidural, as much as I know it's gonna hurt, I cannot agree more that the physical sensations we experience is our bodies communicating with us, and I don't want to prevent that. Feeling pretty nervous about this because it's approaching so quickly, but I know I can do it! 😅
Stick to your guns. Those shots and IV meds don't stop the pain just make you too drunk to complain. Seriously my unmedicated births were less painful. The pain of cuts and tears last months past delivery.
I’m 35 weeks pregnant , having a boy, this is my first pregnancy and I’m not so terrified however I’m a bit worried based on what everyone else has to say. Trying to prepare myself mentally as best as possible. Thank you watching from 🇯🇲🙏🏽❤️
Congratulations ❤ I was the same 6 years ago! Enjoy the experience and let your body do the work. Remember to breathe and soak up the precious moments. ❤
Honey, don't worry about what everyone else has to say. Everyone has different experiences and different ideas on what the "perfect" birthing plan is. You do what's going to be most comfortable for YOU because the last thing you want is to be freaking out while giving birth. So you do whatever is going to be most comfortable to YOU and don't worry about anyone else. It's just you and your baby that you need to be concerned about.
I am 38 weeks pregnant. This is my second pregnancy after having my first son at 30 weeks. He was 2 pounds 10 ounces. And after many miscarriages and one ectopic that resulted in losing my left Fallopian tube , I am grateful to have made it full term. It is just scary to not know what comes after 30weeks and videos like this are so helpful and educational

I encourage everyone to experience a natural birth and to go with the natural flow of your body. Your body naturally pushes for you when you’re ready. I'm 20 weeks with my second. I had a small labial tear with my first and it truly wasn't that bad. It would sting when I went pee for a couple weeks, but that was about it. My midwife was massaging my perineum with oil the entire time I was pushing. I believe that helped a whole lot

I’m 34 weeks pregnant and expecting my first baby in early August! We are keeping the gender a surprise💜 this video is very helpful and enlightening 🙌🏼 my goal is to consciously breathe and keep my body relaxed and in-tune with my baby during labour! There are some wonderful midwives here in Ireland who are encouraging these practices in labour too!
depends how old you are and what area you’re in. i was in Co Louth when i got pregnant and i was 18, got treated like shit by the midwives and drs. only nice one who treated me like a normal person was the woman who did my first baby scan. due to circumstances i had to move back to england, my home country, with the baby’s dad, who is fully irish, when i was 18 weeks and i’ve been treated so well by my midwife and most sonographers i’ve seen. one even let us hear our daughters heartbeat for as long as we wanted because we hadn’t heard it until i was 24 weeks at my 3d scan, i never even got the option to hear it in ireland and they wouldn’t give me regular appointments to keep an eye on her yet i got given them immediately here in england our daughter is due December 11th and im almost 30 weeks
I have been watching all your pregnancy related videos throughout my pregnancy and love all the advice you have for us 1st time moms. I'm 39 weeks and very excited to meet our baby boy!
I'm almost 23 weeks and this is my first (at age 36... gotta love the advanced maternal age). I was really worried, too, because I'm 5'00 (120lbs pre-pregnancy weight) and my husband is 6'4/300lbs. Relieved that the baby was in the 25th percentile at the 20 weeks scan. Hoping she is smaller (but still healthy) just like her mama!
Hi Diana , I'm a first time mother , I watched your videos week by week , I would like to thank you for everything , it helped me alot. I gave birth on my due date to my beautiful baby girl❤️ and it was normal birth with no tear. I pasted on your videos to a few friends to watch while they pregnant and I really can't thank you enough😊❣️
I had my babies 27 and 30 years ago and followed the advice in a book by a well known midwife called Sheila Kitzinger. She had almost exactly the same advice as you so I wonder if you have ever read her book? Perineal massage started at 28 weeks or so meant that I could deliver 2 10+ pounders with my perineum intact both times. My midwife used the warm compress too. I was kneeling up both times which, I believe, gave a controlled descent. Most importantly, I think, I did not actively push and I didn't have anyone screaming at me to do so. Following discussion with my midwife, we agreed there would be none of that nonsense so I just breathed through the contractions and allowed the head to descend and expand the perineum smoothly and gently. I don't recall any "ring of fire" feeling but it was almost 30 years ago! I firmly believe that, if you allow descent to happen as your body intends, the perineum is prepared for the stretching and you are calm, "ring of fire" is not an issue. My first daughter was 10 pounds 3 ounces and the second, 3 years later, was 10 10. I am tall at 5'9 but was not overweight (158 on the day I had #1 daughter) and was tested several times for gestational diabetes as that's a common cause of big babies. No diabetes; they were just big! If you are pregnant now, please be assured that you CAN deliver with an intact perineum but you need to do the preparation and communicate very clearly with your midwife.
Fist pregnancy and I am 9 weeks! Had my first prenatal appointment yesterday and will have my first sonogram with my fiance on Monday ❤️🥰 we are over the moon!

This was soo helpful. I had really bad tearing, that took a really long time to stich. However, I did not feel that ring of fire that everyone talks about, even though I no pain medication. Currently pregnant with my second.
I’m a first time mom at 38 weeks and 3 days, expecting a baby girl! I’m very much ready for her to be born 🤧 I’m also worried about tearing as well, because I plan on going all natural. I am hoping to be on all fours or squatting. I have no idea what to expect, what the pain will feel like, so I’m really not nervous about going into labor. Everything is so unknown, so I’m just going with the flow 🤧

Just found out I’m pregnant! I’m a first time mom so I’m super excited and nervous all at the same time. Wishing a smooth and peaceful pregnancy for all🤍🤍
I had a very traumatic hospital transfer from my home birth. It was my first pregnancy and we planned to have a minimally assisted, unmedicated home birth with plan B being a call into the hospital a 3 minute drive away if any complications arise. After laboring for 22 hours, we checked baby and my son’s butt was coming down -not his head! We immediately called the hospital, told them we’re on the way with a breech birth. I was pushing in the car! It’s was hectic. There was no cord compression! No meconium present when my waters broke. My sons heart rate was normal throughout labor. We were monitored the whole time and we were fine and everything was documented from the time my contractions had started the day before. I just didn’t feel comfortable having an unassisted breech birth. We arrived at the hospital. They looked between my legs and said: yup! That’s a breech baby. They completely freaked out!!! They tried giving me pitocin, they put me on my back! They said my baby was dying! I told them we just listened to his heart 20 minutes ago- it was normal and we handed them the chart we had. They then tried to hook up the heart monitor but I was pushing. They talked about a C-section but my son was already coming out. I was screaming at them just let me squat and help me push him out! They then -all 4 of them- put their hands inside my vagina- stretched me while the 5th person literally just pulled my son out from his hips! My son was not stuck! They didn’t let me push and didn’t believe anything we said! From everything I’ve read about delivery- including breech - it’s hands off the breech until the shoulders are born. Then you guide the head out! What they did was dangerous! My husband was screaming: you’re gonna kill my son! It was terrifying and the pain I experienced as they pulled me open was immense! My son was born with his eyes open and cried almost immediately! We told them we want delayed cord clamping- they cut him right away. I am now 11 weeks pregnant and my son is 4. I told my current midwife what happened. She was upset but told me the staff was probably scared themselves because many are no longer taught how to deliver a breech. I had all my scans and visits up until 38 weeks. My son was overdue but the last scan he was head down. He turned somehow in the last few weeks. This time. I’m getting the extra scans to ensure this baby stays head down. I still have panic attacks when I think about what was done to me and my son. I ended up with a 3rd degree tear and I was sewn up really tight! I couldn’t have sex for months! I had painful sex for the first 3 years. Terrible experience. I’m praying this pregnancy has a redeeming labor and delivery
Omg I'm so sorry you had that traumatic experience 😢 how was your second delivery? I'm considering doing a water birth but scared of any last minute complications and not getting quick enough to hospital
@@SheLightsUptheDark my second was amazing! Early labor started around 11pm (I thought they were practice contractions as I was 11 days from due date) it was around 6am I realized I was woken up every hour by the cramps. Called my midwife around 7am. We tried seeing if a warm bath would slow things down- nope! So we arrived to the birth center around 10:30 to find out I was 7.5cm dilated! My second baby boy was born in the birthing tub at 3:12 pm - minor tearing no stitches required.
Gave birth to my first baby last January 30,2022 via unmedicated vaginal waterbirth and I did not have vaginal tear. My OB said it’s almost like a miracle. And I feel so proud and happy about it. What helped so much is that Because I did not have any anesthesia. The absence of anesthesia signaled my body when to stop pushing. The “ring of fire” is the most reliable signal. One advice is when you feel the ring of fire, wait at least for two surges before giving it your all when pushing. Hope it helps 🙏🏼

You got this!! Don't be afraid. It's not too bad, I had my second almost 6 weeks ago, and my advice with the tearing is to talk to your doctor. I'd tell them that if they believe you're going to tear to give you an episiotomy and to not, TO NOT, cut your butt!!!!!! Make sure to mention that, butt muscle being tore is the hardest thing you'll go through avoid it at !! Good luck and congradulations

I tore with my first pregnancy she weighed 7 pounds and 3 ounces. 2nd pregnancy tore she weighed 7 pounds 8ounces. My 3rd Pregnancy I didn’t tear and she was my biggest baby 8 pounds and 11oz. I definitely think my doctor the third time around knew what she was doing on telling me how hard to push and when to stop. She was just so helpful. My first 2 doctors were just telling me to push push push and hard and so I did and I tore.
It’s not always the weight, it’s the bones the baby’s head size is the crucial part of the birth, once the head comes out the rest of the body comes out easily because it’s soft and flexible.

German midwife here:
Thank you for this video!!
Sehr gut beschrieben. Dankeschön ❤
This!!!! You’re absolutely correct!
Thank you so much for the information shared. I'd definitely try to remember this when I get into labor soon

Those are my two biggest fears as well. I think that is probably everyone’s biggest fear. I’m so happy to hear you didn’t do either one! 🎉
You are so lucky. These are my worst fears too. I'm expecting my first baby and I'm so anxious about the delivery.
I'm watching this video not because I'm pregnant, but because I want to educate myself on this topic. Wishing you all well
same here 🤣😅
A midwife 20 years ago told me to massage my perineum when bathing or showering etc.
This probably is 10/10 advice
Thanks for your different videos. I’ve learned a lot. I’m due in 6days I’m scared 😟 first pregnancy 🤰 May the Almighty make it easy for all pregnant mama
I'm 14 weeks and according to the NIPT testing I had done I'm having a girl. This is my first pregnancy my husband and I have been trying for a baby for the last 5 & a half years we was told my husband couldn't have kids so I truly believe this is a miracle baby ❤️🤗
Congratulations!! I’m 17 weeks with a boy 😊
Thank you for sharing your experience
I teared both times, I find the pain when the head is halfway out unbearable and therefore push hard every time.
Wear did the warm compress go?
@@bellefairydust she applied it to the perineal area during crowning and pushing!
hey did you do a water birth? if no then is it safe for you to wait with baby's head in air for next contraction to push the rest out?
God bless my nurse. I pushed for 4 hours and she massaged me the entire time so I wouldn't tear.
Omg bless that nurse. its quite rare for them to do that no?
Great advice here! I delivered my daughter without any pain medication and I didn’t tear!!! I breathed my baby down and out!! No pushing necessary. 🙌🏽🙌🏽

It's just you and your baby that you need to be concerned about.

depends how old you are and what area you’re in. i was in Co Louth when i got pregnant and i was 18, got treated like shit by the midwives and drs. only nice one who treated me like a normal person was the woman who did my first baby scan.
due to circumstances i had to move back to england, my home country, with the baby’s dad, who is fully irish, when i was 18 weeks and i’ve been treated so well by my midwife and most sonographers i’ve seen. one even let us hear our daughters heartbeat for as long as we wanted because we hadn’t heard it until i was 24 weeks at my 3d scan, i never even got the option to hear it in ireland and they wouldn’t give me regular appointments to keep an eye on her yet i got given them immediately here in england

I am 21 weeks pregnant having a baby girl. We are naming her Elora and this is my first pregnancy! I am so excited to meet her 😊
I had a very traumatic hospital transfer from my home birth.
How terrible, I'm sorry you had such a traumatic experience.
So sorry you went through this.. how did the second labor and delivery go?
@@SheLightsUptheDark my second was amazing! Early labor started around 11pm (I thought they were practice contractions as I was 11 days from due date) it was around 6am I realized I was woken up every hour by the cramps. Called my midwife around 7am. We tried seeing if a warm bath would slow things down- nope! So we arrived to the birth center around 10:30 to find out I was 7.5cm dilated! My second baby boy was born in the birthing tub at 3:12 pm - minor tearing no stitches required.
Amen
Gave birth to my first baby last January 30,2022 via unmedicated vaginal waterbirth and I did not have vaginal tear. My OB said it’s almost like a miracle. And I feel so proud and happy about it. What helped so much is that Because I did not have any anesthesia. The absence of anesthesia signaled my body when to stop pushing. The “ring of fire” is the most reliable signal. One advice is when you feel the ring of fire, wait at least for two surges before giving it your all when pushing. Hope it helps 🙏🏼
Yes this has definitely helped👍🏼

You got this!! Don't be afraid. It's not too bad, I had my second almost 6 weeks ago, and my advice with the tearing is to talk to your doctor. I'd tell them that if they believe you're going to tear to give you an episiotomy and to not, TO NOT, cut your butt!!!!!! Make sure to mention that, butt muscle being tore is the hardest thing you'll go through avoid it at !! Good luck and congradulations
Congrats 🥳🥳. I’m 32 weeks 3 days tomorrow 🤩
26 weeks pregnant with a baby boy ❤️ cannot wait to meet him. I have heard stories about tearing from other moms and it kind of scared me, but watching your video calmed me down 🤗

I'm 16 week today and it's my first pregnancy.. I can't wait to see my baby. Wish me good lucl🙏🥰
@@vkrgfan It is also some nurses and doctors do not care to educate themselves! All that push at the wrong time of course is going to tear them!
I'm pregnant with my first. I'm about 32 weeks. And the gender is a surprise 🤗💕
