I guess the budget was too low maybe? But come on, I think this game deserves cutscenes… the in game cutscenes look cheap in comparison
Looking at this, I can tell Phantasy's cutscenes are about 1 to 1 to the Wii Remake. This isn't a bad thing since Klonoa actually looks like how he does from the original. Phantasy Reverie Klonoa 1's opening is like a hybrid of the PS1 and Wii. It had PS1 Klonoa and Huepow with the aesthetics and choreography of the Wii version.

Remastered, but remade to feel more like the PS1 original. It's a shame they couldn't pull the original voice clips from the PS1 and polish them up to sound better for the Phantasy Reverie Series.
I am getting more feels from the original PS1 version. Classic. There is a charm to mixing 3D backdrops with 2D sprites. Love the PS1/Saturn era of games developed this way.
When I first played PRS I had a sneaking suspicion that the Wii version was used as a basis for the PRS version of DtP. This all but confirms my suspicion.
I only played the Wii version of the game as a kid and hearing the music from the beginning gives me so much nostalgia. I never beat it tho because I kept having a hard as heck time trying to beat the last level before the final boss I kept getting lost and stuck. I hope when I buy the remaster I can finally beat the game. I recently found out that people want $100 for a used version of the Wii game and I was like shit I hope I still have the Wii version and if I don't I'm disappointed
I thought the Switch version was a solid port of the Wii version, but the Klonoa models and scripts are closer to the original PS1 version, and shaders have been applied to the models to make them more beautiful, and other details have been worked on. This makes me want to buy it.
Now I could see the difference between the Wii and the Switch better, sometimes the lighting stands out better on the Wii because the saturation is not so high
I'll have to say that the ps1 scenes that are fully animated are extremely good and got their own charm, something we don't get anymore these days for none triple A games or low budget ones. The wii version has by far better character design, every character looks so nice and detailed while their facial expressions are far stronger compared to the switch. While the switch just uses better hardware to render the scenes in higher Resolution, but i'll have to admit the color pattern and enviroment look really nice.
Wow. Klonoa has his personality back from PS1 original instead of being a dull mudded character in the Wii remake. Also, being colorful again because Wii remake had a bright idea to make everything look dreadful
The Ps1 version was way too bright. The wii version looked better. Also it wasn’t like klonoa was a very interesting character either on ps1. Making speak more doesn’t change that.
@BOUBERT PAQUIN Well yeah. Its based on Wii remake, ofc it was unfortunately gonna carry all the problems. Its still better than Wii remake but doesn’t touch original PS1 and I can definitely tell their main focus was on Klonoa 2 considering that remaster looks 10 times better even with cel shadowing being removed
I first experienced Klonoa series through the Wii remake, but afterwards I looked into the series as a whole and really prefer the original. The CGI cutscenes have so much more care put into them, to say nothing of the animation quality and details. But Klonoa's design... the original is cuter, yes, but everything about it also has a slightly unsettling, whimsical, surreal feel to it. His large yellow eyes with the slitted pupils. the choice to have greater contrasts with light and shadow. The choice to have that dream-like haze to the image. All of it feels sort of otherworldly. The wii's redesign is clearly supposed to resemble a Sonic character and probably appeal to a wider audience. I'm still grateful for the wiimake though. without it, I may have never experienced the series at all, and it's likely that we wouldn't have the new remakes either. I'm glad that they're at least trying to make it more faithful to the original though.
The 2.5D graphics of the original will always have a unique charm to them. The switch remake is absolutely gorgeous though, they did an amazing job. Especially compared to how drowned out the colors look in the Wii version.

The Switch is definitely an improvement over the Wii version and I like the look of the gameplay best in that version too. The only issue I have with the Switch version is that the Wii version changed the way the scenes during the cutscenes were shot which, in my opinion, were for the worse (different angles, zooming out, less expressive movement) and sadly the Switch version used the Wii scenes as a base. You can see this in for example @1:08 or @2:02 how the Switch and Wii version are more zoomed out and less expressive compared to the original.
It's like watching a Ghibli movie next to 2 images created in stable diffusion, there is no point of comparison in how extremely superior the PS1 version is.
As much as I prefer the expressive Sprites and CG cutscenes of the original. I have to admit the environments pop more in the new version, there's just more continuity in the backgrounds that make the levels feel vast.
I will say that Phantasy Reverie looks better overall than the PS1 version, but the original FMV's looked way better than the cutscenes of this game, especially the last cutscene which just looks kinda silly in Phantasy Reverie compared to the original.
Interesting, for me personally, I like the Aesthetics of the PS1 original best, sems to have more charm and something special to it the other 2 versions are lacking. Would have been incredible if they had included the original Version in with the remakes as an option to play thru it as it was originally.

Just played the Switch demo, and waiting for the delivery of full game. I heard about a low framerate on the Switch version, but from what I played in the demo it seems "okay". It's not 60fps but it seems to me running decently. The Switch one seems a perfectly playable version. Visuals are lovable, no matter if it's old.
@@undergroundhiphopfan6335 I think it "could be" 60, but very variable, so the impression you get is something not "so" smooth. However it plays great, no prob.
The original looks way better but it's because the new version are using in-game models and textures for the cutscene while the old version isn't. It's made to be as cinematic as possible while the in-game graphics are notibly worse/pixelated. The Wii version is more zoomed in than the Switch but is apparently more detailed. However, the Switch version is HD and looks a lot more crisp. Also the Switch version looks more colorful than the Wii version. Might be done on purpose to make the game feel more vibrant.
Of course the original intro looks better because was made with cgi, just like the Pac-Man World remake, but I think I'm liking the new actual gameplay, wish I could know these series at its time, specially because I grew up with a PSX
I think the Switch version's graphics are very well done, especially compared to the Wii. The Wii version really robbed the look of the game of a lot of its brightly colored charm and warmth, and the Switch leaves that intact while still updating the graphics to a level that's more in line with modern games. It may have been a sign of gne times. During the 2000s, especially the latter half of the decade, so many games looked kinda drab with very muted color palettes. It's kinda silly to go for that in a series like Klonoa for which its cuteness is such a big part of the series' character.
to be honest the remakes were good but still they lack the charm of the original, I think instead of going full 3D they should have updated the sprites, and go full wayforward with the animations, also I don't get why they still try to go for the updated design of Klonoa, witch looks like a Sonic character tbh, still it's a good step on the right direction
I always thought the PS1 original is the best when the Wii remake came out. Now I still think is the best but the Switch ports is better than the Wii remake, its the same game but better so PS1 > Switch(2022 Port) > Wii IMO
not exactly in everything because if u look close the new version has improvements like the environments having bounce light now and such, while i like the text boxes of the wii and the changes to his eyes, but i guess in the new version they wanted him to match more his original ps1 look so it's like they married the ps1 and wii version
@@BirdAsBond again it really doesn't it's essentially the same except now they made the colors match more the original as well as the character model of course...while today u may prefer the more drab look of wii, fans didn't really like the route that remake took...but yeah wii isn't "way better" this version clearly ups the colors and contrast, effects and lights actually bounce, improved texture quality and yeah just has the og klonoa model look, which all really just comes down to preference
Don't know what these developers are thinking. Nothing will beat the original CGI cut scenes unless they try to match the effort. So why not reuse them and improve is it's quality?
Totally unacceptable for the 1st and 2nd remake. They just put the in-game module into a scene, which is not a real drawn 'Animation'. The real animation in PS1 original version is everly epic and can not be replaced, unless they really make a new animation in real.
Honestly the switch version looks the blandest of all of them, no? The original has so much personality, the Wii version keeps most of the personality but with largely improved assets. Than the remake just looks like a scaled up version re release with 0 effort of adding some charm back in that will naturally be needed with a project like this.
I wish they re-made the original opening instead of rendering it in-engine. I also think the Wii models fit better with the switch version. The Ui is also way to big on the switch version. The game went from very original to a NSMB styled Super Mario Sunshine clone.
I don’t get why people are here bashing that Wii remake, but I wish they gave us an option to play that first game with the Wii version’s design of Klonoa. It just felt unnecessary having to do all this for what is just a port of it.
To be honest, I kind of prefer the looks of the Wii version compared to the Switch version. The Switch version definitely is more true to the original PS1 version though since the Wii version has changed costumes around for some reason and a few details in the animations are off while on Switch it's almost a 1:1 perfect remake of the PS1 animations and visuals, but I like the somewhat darker colors of the Wii version a lot more than the almost overly-vibrant colors on the Switch version. Also while this is less true to the original than the Switch version, I prefer the speech bubbles from the Wii version over the text box on the bottom of the screen for Switch. One thing the Wii version definitely screwed up though is Huepow for some reason not having hands or that halo under him in the Wii version.

It's not 60fps but it seems to me running decently. The Switch one seems a perfectly playable version.
Visuals are lovable, no matter if it's old.
Actually it is 60, at least most of the time, with occasional drops.
The new animations are clearly based on the wii versions cutscenes but honestly I think it's fine.
The switch version is based on the PS1 version?
This, Medievil, and Tony Hawk Pro Skater 1 have to be the only games that I can think of that have been remade twice.
The Last of us : Hold my beer
Zone of the Enders 2
Og looks better tbh.
to be honest the remakes were good but still they lack the charm of the original, I think instead of going full 3D they should have updated the sprites, and go full wayforward with the animations, also I don't get why they still try to go for the updated design of Klonoa, witch looks like a Sonic character tbh, still it's a good step on the right direction
The original is better in cutscenes and feelings but the wii version Klonoa get a better desing (especially the eyes).
I always thought the PS1 original is the best when the Wii remake came out.
Now I still think is the best but the Switch ports is better than the Wii remake, its the same game but better so
PS1 > Switch(2022 Port) > Wii
IMO
Why would you not just correct the ps1's aspect ratio when editing the video? Seems kinda important if you were wanting to do a proper comparison. 🤷♂
While I still love the later versions, I can't help but prefer the original's look where its more like a pseudo-claymation appearance.
I like the Wii colours more than the Switch Version.
Its just me or the wii version looks bettet than the switch?
not exactly in everything because if u look close the new version has improvements like the environments having bounce light now and such, while i like the text boxes of the wii and the changes to his eyes, but i guess in the new version they wanted him to match more his original ps1 look so it's like they married the ps1 and wii version
You’re not bugging. The Wii version looks way better 😕
I think all versions are good but my one and only problem is why Klonoha on PS2 and Wii looks like a fu*kin parody of Sonic.
Kloana looked great in the Wii version
I actually like the original PS1 best, it looks a lot better and has more charm to it.
Don't know what these developers are thinking. Nothing will beat the original CGI cut scenes unless they try to match the effort. So why not reuse them and improve is it's quality?
Tbh, I like all versions.
Why do they insist on making his head so much smaller in the remakes?
for some reason, the Wii version looks more realistic than the switch. maybe because the color tone and the blur effect
No that’s just the art style they went with for that remake, then they redid it to better match the original PS1 ver for the switch
Totally unacceptable for the 1st and 2nd remake. They just put the in-game module into a scene, which is not a real drawn 'Animation'. The real animation in PS1 original version is everly epic and can not be replaced, unless they really make a new animation in real.
How can they drop the ball this bad? The PSOne version is far superior 😔
the switch version is just a mod from the wii version ._.
the Switch try to keep the original concept, but I like more the wii version
the original made me actually scared in that nightmare as a kid, the remasters are a joke
Ps1 expressiveness and feline face
Wii outfit
Switch graphics
And we got the perfect cutscene
Honestly the switch version looks the blandest of all of them, no? The original has so much personality, the Wii version keeps most of the personality but with largely improved assets. Than the remake just looks like a scaled up version re release with 0 effort of adding some charm back in that will naturally be needed with a project like this.
el de wii es superior, como es posible
y lo peor es que debo comprarlo o si no la saga volveré al baúl de los recuerdos
pero si es la misma wea que la switch
ps1 looks better i mean the art style felt more alive that the latter
I wish they re-made the original opening instead of rendering it in-engine. I also think the Wii models fit better with the switch version. The Ui is also way to big on the switch version. The game went from very original to a NSMB styled Super Mario Sunshine clone.
I like more the wii version, have a touch Sonic that it look great to my gusto.
I don’t care what anyone says, I like the Wii design
I don’t get why people are here bashing that Wii remake, but I wish they gave us an option to play that first game with the Wii version’s design of Klonoa. It just felt unnecessary having to do all this for what is just a port of it.
the blue ball has hands and then it doesn't
Only one reason to buy a Wii
Edit: but ps1 original is cutest than optimised-graphics version
Wii looks by far the best!
I like More wii version
Played klonoa 2 on Wii it's hard to control with the Wii controller
Klonoa 2 is not on Wii
The wii look better i think they do that for the switch portable screem to see on the sun
wii has the best design, switch has best graphics and colours.
For me, I love this PlayStation version, Switch/PC then... The Wii is just laughably bad 🤣
there's something charming about the PS1 and Wii versions that the Switch lacks. Bad port imho
