    Finally! Someone who knows how to employ the powerband instead of timidly shifting just as it gets on pipe. As the proud racer of three RZ350s well and truly killed by overuse in the 80's, I applaud your moxy, sir.

    From the first moment I heard the machine roar, I knew it was a two-stroke engine. Its sound is hoarse but as if it were something that arose from a metal wall that covers a deep well. I always liked two-stroke bikes, I had 2 that despite the small engine were very powerful, It is very good that they can still be used on public roads. The work done is formidable. Simple and subtle, yet powerful and elegant. In any project they will always be winning combinations.

    Bought the RD125. An RD 200 was found at the Orange county dump. Swapped the engines after the 200 was abandoned in the hovercraft project. A diesel soak and piston replacement was the only real repair. Without the muffler the sound is deafening. But the real godsend was in the handlebars. I did an intersection human cannonball, riding the stuffed backpack, heading over the handlebars with a 5 year hip joint memory.

    Por isso sempre fui, em algum grau, meio ressentido com essas tendências modernas de esconder ou minimizar esse importante componente nas motos.
    De tanto ver projetos modernosos, já havia até me esquecido dessas coisas.. bastou alguns segundos vendo essa moto, para voltar à lembrança uma época que tudo era mais romântico, simples e autêntico.
    Valeu Vitor, abraço e boa semana amigo.

    • @RACER_TV
      @RACER_TV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Olá Amigo. Como as coisas são curiosas. Aqui em Portugal, esses escapes são também conhecidos por "escapes de ponteira". Eram muito populares com as pequenas motos de 50 cm3 a 2 tempos. A minha Honda NSR 50, também vinha com 1 desses escapes. Até que 1 dia decidi cortar a ponteira, e rodá-la mais um pouco para ficar mais levantada. Tal como Você diz, a moto ficou muito mais agressiva com a ponteira apontada para cima. Um grande abraço, e bom fim de semana. :)

    I am a, "two-strokeaholic!!"
    I grew up breathing pre-mix before 'YZs'. Had two R-5s, three RDs, and two 'RZs'!!
    The last of the past, an RZ-350 NC,(new Californian) we did everything to it. My mechanic's father, set times at Baylands Raceway on a Suzuki H-6 Hustler!! (secret porting!) But the man to beat was, Tommy Blackwell.
    Put a RD 400 engine in a YZ-465, "Desert Sled!!"
    Put another one, in a old "TZ-250!" chassis!!
    That sound of a two stroke twin, on the pipe, awesome!!
    Especially one ported, Lectron's, Bassini's
    ( Southern California made )
    My RZ-350 bone stock, did s honest 115, made 40 HP. And only weighed 328;Lbs.
    Back then, only Eric Buell carried 'Dymags', got my full floating cast iron rotors from him too. Ah those were the days!! ✌️😎👍

      A Yamaha RD350 neste video é de 1974. Mas como pode ver nas fotos, ela já tinha algumas alterações Cafe Racer quando o Bruno a comprou. Por isso não sei se esse disco na frente foi aplicado depois, ou se já vinha de fábrica.

    •  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@RACER_TV acredito que não tinha freio a disco não, pois nessa mesma época as suzuki 3 cilindros também não tinham aqui no Brasil.E pelo fator de ser freios a tambor eram perigosas, por isso levam o nome de viúva negra, muita velocidade e pouca frenagem.Andei na na rd350 primeira versão e tive uma ypvs segunda versão refrigerada a água.

    From Canada....built up 14 of the 1985to 1989 versions. Still have 2 ready to go. Bought an r3 just for comparison fun. 3 engines and all original parts packed away in my shop. Part of my life. Powerband for days with a y boot k n n and boysen dual stage reed cages. 2 times oversize seems to be the perfect 16:1 ratio. Damper and fork braces are recommended...😁😁😁

    Nice to see a cafe version of the RD. I used to ride my RD during winter, and a
    very hard wind could push the whole bike sideways on black ice roads.

    Fantastic video thankyou. This bike really does sum up the true meaning of a cafe racer for me. Striped to the bare minimum and made to go faster.
    I'm currently building my own version of a 2 stroke racer and recognise some very high class components on this RD.
    Top job.

    Thank you for this presentation of the RD350. This is certainly a beautiful build of very high quality. I enjoyed the 2-stroke sound, and sitting here watching, I could smell the mix in the air. And, as always, thank you for Racer TV, the Café racers only choice! Hope you are getting in some riding time. Take care of yourself my friend.

      You are welcome my friend. My pleasure. Your perspective about the smell is very interesting. I already found similar comments about the 2 stroke motorcycles smell. It seems our brains add automatically the burnt oil smell to this sound, bringing also some nice memories from our youth. Technically, the burnt oil smell should be bad. But for me, it is a good smell, almost like a perfume. Thank you my friend for sharing your opinion. You too. :) Cheers.

      @@RACER_TV I sometimes go out for a ride with a group which call themselves The Rotterdam Rollout, a great bunch of lads but they dont like being behind my smelly twostroke. I usually change the premix ratio from 28:1 to 40:1 to keep the smoke levels and eye iritations down.

    • @RACER_TV
      @RACER_TV  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @Toby Jugs Yes, after a while, it can be annoying to ride with a 2 stroke motorcycle in our front. But that may happen because of a bad oil/fuel mixture, or even a bad quality oil. When I was 16 years old, I rode thousands of Km with 2 stroke motorcycles, and I never felt annoyed with the smoke smell. But Thank you my friend for sharing your perspective. :) Cheers.

    And I still like nippy 2 stroke twins but there isn't any so I've got a little duke 390 which does remind me of the RD. Weird because it's a thumper but through voodoo and modern tech it still reminds of my RD 400

    I used to corner that bike until the footrest drew sparks on the tarmac, I have seen many wheelies,
    but I looked specifically for this driving style, and I couldn't find any movies. It means full throttle through the curves, only the centrifugal power holding that bike in line. It is the absolute limit you can drive that thing and a nightmare for the bigger bikes leaving them far behind on curvy streets. And yes I used not 9, but 99 lives. One step away from flying

    Definitely one of my favorites in a long time. After college l moved to Atlanta, GA. After landing a job l decided to see if l could get a loan to buy a Yamaha RD 250 for daily transportation. Thankfully it was too soon for the banks to take a chance on a recent graduate. I ended up settling for a Bultaco Lobito and a 1962 Chevy Van to haul and store it in. What a tough little motorcycle that Bultaco was. We put each other through a fast learning process and survived each other.
