The estate sales I have been to- that are at a house in that condition, I have found that the family/sellers are just happy that someone wants to carry the stuff out of there. Fill a box or two and you won't get charged more than if you fussily just choose one or two items. Most of the time, if I see one item I want in a box, I ask for a price on the whole box, and get a great deal...because anything that is not purchased, means the family has to PAY someone to clean it out!!! And they are overwhelmed by the sheer quantity of stuff.
10:37 Lionel smoke tablets... I had forgotten that Lionel offered that accessory to make your toy train smoke as it cruised around the tracks just like an old time steam locomotive. That three seconds alone makes watching worthwhile. Awesome!

I am so glad that you got a chance to go back into that packed house and dig some more. The people who were in that attic before you got there obviously were not as good at digging as you were or that snowman blow mold and two ceramic trees would have already been taken. The biggest drawback to taking on that house as a clean-out that I see is the fact that much of the good stuff has already been bought, leaving mostly the junk and heavy stuff to be removed and thrown away. On the other hand, getting the chance to clean out that house before they started selling things would have been a goldmine for your team. Thanks for sharing another digging trip!
Take the painting to a conservator. They would be able to tell you if those marks were something painted by the artist or something that happened to it afterwards. If it’s on top of the varnish coat, it might be easy to remove. Cool find!

I have one of those spittoons...it's plain, with no locomotive stamping...but same size and shape...also of brass. As to signs...I have two I treasure...a 1928 illuminated RCA Radiola and a 1968 Magnavox light up, from my late dad's TV Sales/Service Store. That shelf box of miniatures would be coming home with me...I see a cute fr-ggy figurine amongst the neat pieces! That Lionel smoke pellet bottle would be another piece in my take home bag! Ahh, I cute nurse doll...just what I need to keep me on the health highway!

You can take the painting to a professional cleaning & restorer and they can likely get those two ? exclamation? marks off 👍. Or ask someone for a do it yourself tip before you paint over it. It looks like someone did it with marker.
Wow you really went into the deep corners of that hoarder house. But that's where you find the best stuff! Including blow molds and ceramic trees. The high school painting by the local artist is wonderful. Might be a silly way to spend money - but if this two gray "i's" aren't supposed to be there, maybe you could find a local restorer to fix it. Unfortunately framing is crazy expensive - especially behind UV or museum glass. You can hang it for as long as you want it then donate it to the P'burg historical society or something similar. Two fun things in the same day! Thanks for taking us along! PS I got a free trunk yesterday.
I had an experience with framing many years ago at the Michael's craft store. The frame & framing was more expensive than the artwork! I had no idea it was going to be that expensive, but it was a Christmas gift and I didn't want to attempt to frame it myself. Lesson learned! Nothing beats a free trunk! I was at an auction over the weekend & the trunks there actually sold for a decent price, compared to other auctions where they can't even give them away for $1. What a collection of primitives & antiques they had! Hope that you have a good upcoming week, and the weather treats you well!

Wow, that was a real picker´s delight ! And I saw another "Rheingold" sign as well. Maybe that the founder of this company was a huge fan of Richard Wagner´s operas. I just imagine listening to "Rheingold" and drinking some beer of this brand. 😄 A New York World´s Fair 1964/65 sign for a whopping seventy bucks ?! Deal !! 😉 Some pretty neat finds though, I like especially the ceramic Christmas trees, the Smurf egg decoration kits and of course the Phillipsburg local items. The painter was Richard Schisler, born in 1913 & passed away in 2003. Always happy to add to the Pburg collection & this piece is a fine addition! The sign could have cost me $70 if the other bidder would have stopped, but they are pretty heavy hitters at the auctions, so my guess is they would have kept going well over $150 or more. Of course, there's always the bid them up to make them pay, but I really don't engage in that. Many others do & it adds to the fun of going to an auction! Thanks for being there through all of the subscriber milestones - wouldn't be possible without you!

Hope you take the advice another person made to take the painting to a restorer first before you try to paint over it. May be a simple fix, but it's hard to tell.

With that type of stuff in the house , it would have made sense to do a clean out . There seemed to be tons of things for resell on different platforms . You could have given a discount because all the items there . Or you could have said that if they could box or bag up items you’d give a discount. And you think the house will be hoarded again ? Well there’s a repeat customer right there . That’s if they don’t seek professional help .
The house is up for sale, so no hoarding. I was leaving for Yellowstone within a day or two of the sale and the woman had stated in passing that she was having someone come out within a week to start taking things out.
Renee don't go correcting that painting yourself. If it is a graphite pencil, it is easy to clean. The value is more historical for you. But a painter who has experience with correction can easily fix it. I don't believe that any painter put these marks on it. And it doesn't look like paint. So I suspect that correcting is not difficult by an artist.
Please do not alter the original painting...u will decrease the value....someone may know what those things are/were. It will need a custom frame which is expensive....have it done. U didn't look at the Aladdin lamp. ..went past it twice!!!! It had the original shade & final ..the final alone is worth $!!!! It's alabaster.

With that type of stuff in the house , it would have made sense to do a clean out . There seemed to be tons of things for resell on different platforms . You could have given a discount because all the items there . Or you could have said that if they could box or bag up items you’d give a discount. And you think the house will be hoarded again ? Well there’s a repeat customer right there . That’s if they don’t seek professional help .
The house is up for sale, so no hoarding. I was leaving for Yellowstone within a day or two of the sale and the woman had stated in passing that she was having someone come out within a week to start taking things out.
Renee don't go correcting that painting yourself. If it is a graphite pencil, it is easy to clean. The value is more historical for you. But a painter who has experience with correction can easily fix it. I don't believe that any painter put these marks on it. And it doesn't look like paint. So I suspect that correcting is not difficult by an artist.

Please do not alter the original painting...u will decrease the value....someone may know what those things are/were. It will need a custom frame which is expensive....have it done. U didn't look at the Aladdin lamp.
