I bought a 2023 Chevy Colorado back in May and this happened to us back in late July. Thank you very much for this information as it was extremely helpful and confirmed we weren't crazy. Sucks for everyone dealing with this in a new truck and no one updating consumers on the issue or if it's even been resolved.

I just bought a 2023 Silverado 1500 and I had it for a day and I was pulling into the drive and a message came up on the radio that said please park the car it will be inoperable for a few minutes. You will not be able to operate it. I'm paraphrasing because I can't remember the exact words, but those are close. I thought WTF. What if I was trying to get away from a dangerous situation and I have this.
Edit: I forgot to mention it was going to apply an update.

GM hasn't been perfecting anything in a long while. They keep bouncing from one system to another, in a perceptual new-vehicle glitch period. They're always using a new tech that regularly uses the consumer as low-overhead R&D mules.
GM will "fix" this issue, as many others with a system that is even more finicky. As they close in on a real remedy, they'll change tech systems and sell it as "innovative new features".

I wish there was a setting to only have the dealer install updates that way they can fix and problems found and if not they can give me a loaner until they fix it. Most get an oil change about every 6 months so that should be good enough for 2 updates a year.

OAU are not the problem. It's actually a convenient way to get important updates to your vehicle without you having to take it in to the dealer, which is always a nightmare. The problem is that GM hasn't implemented it well. I worked at GM for 15 years until they closed my plant and they have always had these kinds of issues with 'new' tech. That said, I'm not a GM hater. I'm actually considering buying a Colorado, but not until these annoying launch issues are resolved.

Truck went to dealership and they had it for 2 more days and said it was battery. By Thursday after 4:00 pm went to dealership and asked what going on with truck because I was paying for a rental that dealership was supposed to pay for but didn’t, until I said some to them about not paying for it like they said they would. So they had truck for 2 days and I still waited another 2 hours on Thursday (6:00). They said they replaced battery but took them 2 days. Bad experience with Service department. Everything is working fine now but GM needs to get their heads out their butts and inform new owners about these quite up dates.

I had no real problems with my 23 Colorado as yet. I had the instrument Panel go blank (speedometer and etc.) on startup. But, I figured it was a temporary computer glitch, and that's exactly what it was a Glitch. After having the truck for a year, I'm a low mileage driver, I had the oil changed and tires rotated. At that time, they cleared two recalls at the same time: Fuel distribution update, and the front camera recalibrations for the auto braking. LED lighting upgrades are NOT RECOMMENDED is what the service desk guy told me. I installed the rear turn signals and brake red LEDs, but when applying the brakes that really affect the battery charging system when driving and apply the brakes. So, I switchback to Halogens in those lamp sockets, but kept the backup LEDs. Those really helped me back in and out of my 100' driveway at nights. I live on the last residential street near the woods, and we have no street lights. Its like backing always into my driveway during daylight hours. Wow! Once a year I'm having the Chevy Dealership apply Poly Steel protective coating to my truck's paint job. I'm a 76 yo dude that prefers 'letting out' some of my chores to other people these days.

2024 Canyon owner here. The issue has yet to be resolved. My battery was dead the next weekend after July 4th this year. It was completely dead. It would not start when I attempted to boost and jump it. The tow truck driver was finally able to boost it, but it had no power steering so I had to have it towed to the dealer. The dealer claimed it was a bad battery. After I got the truck back I checked for updates and noticed that the last attempted update was July 4th, while we were out of town away from wifi and in a spotty cell area. My guess is the truck was attempting to update for just over a week when the battery finally died.

If you’re getting a blank radio or infotainment screen you can hold down the phone button on the steering wheel for about 15 seconds. This will reset your infotainment screen and usually fix electronic glitches and reconnect your phone.

Same thing happened to my canyon... The first time I was able to jump it with no issues. 4 days later it died again, I was able to jump it, but it took a while. 2 days later it died for a third time,it wouldn't jump and i had to get it towed to the dealership. It has been there for 4 days, they still can't figure out how to fix the issue. 🍋

This is why I bought a new 2022 GMC Canyon in February 2023/this year instead of getting a 2023...to avoid the growing pains of an updated model. And I also wanted a V6, not a turbo 4 cylinder or turbo diesel 4 cylinder. But then again, my 2022 could fall victim of a downloaded update screw up from GM, too.

I got a 2022 Colorado at the beginning of 2023. I went with the N/A 4 cyl mainly because I didn't want the 8 speed transmission that came with the 6 cyl and I don't do a lot of heavy hauling/towing. I believe '22 was the last year with an actual headlight switch instead of everything being controlled from the dashboard screen.

Yes, other manufacturers have had this issue as well and it will
get resolved. But you hit the nail on the head: first year vehicle always comes with teething problems. That is what deters me from buying (that and the ridiculous interest rates).
I lived through this with an '88 Silverado Z71 and '16 Malibu Premier so I'll wait until the bugs are worked out, thanks.

if your battery is dead jump it and bring it to the dealership and say it needs to manually be updated to finish the last update, and say GM knows its happening that the last update sometimes drains your battery before it finishes.

Mine went dead on Tuesday before 11:30 am edt, again on Wednesday by 2:30 pm, brought it in to the service area Thursday morning, they got the update in manually and had the cluster screen go out on them and they got it back just for the 4 wheel drive system error. This isn’t just the automotive industry. It’s all appliances too. Technology is being mandated by the government too quickly. Dealers cannot properly train technicians and managers on identifying known issues because it isn’t being communicated. It really takes a proactive and top notch tech/dealer reps to hunt down the new issues and resolves.

I was pissed this happened,,I hope I don’t have any more problems ,,,more than likely your gonna have a problem too, this is the most digital truck I’ve ever owned and I’m scared 😂 they said it’s all updated but they had to call someone and get help,,,,,, guarantee , those drivers didn’t know that speedo screen was still illuminated when they parked it,, I just happen to notice it after washing one of my cars at night,,

Just happened to me. Had been at home sick since Tuesday night. Went out to start the truck this morning and click-click. If I hadn't had this GB40 to jump it, I'd have been stuck. And I'm assuming draining the brand new battery a few weeks into ownership is going to reduce it's lifespan. That happens a few times and the battery might get shot quick.

This was at night, so my lights also stayed on for over 20 min while I looked on the internet for the solution. I read about the update issue and left my truck running for about 30 min to let the update happen. It shut down like normal after that.

This is precisely why you NEVER buy a first year redesign. Too many gremlins and bugs that need to be worked out. I’ll wait until next year. Don’t want to be a test subject for the automaker.

  • @RicCross
    @RicCross ปีที่แล้ว +1

Had vehicle once that had electrical “gremlins” that would drain the battery… shops could not figure it out…. Solution I settled on was a automated mechanical battery disconnect switch (~$100) … senses when battery voltage goes below 11.7 volts and disconnects… hop in vehicle touch the brake, hear a mechanical “whir” and turn the key, started right up… no more being stranded at the airport after a week away
