      Thank you. We’ve been looking for the right boat for awhile now and we’re happy with this one. Needs work but what boat doesn’t. And enjoy those crispy new sails! Definitely the best improvement anyone can do to their sailboat.

      I noticed you carry a vhs radio on board. Do you find people monitor the radio in our Spokane (ish) lakes in case of an emergency?

    I would like to know what the dowel like piece is attached to the he rudder and the tiller. I have been researching ways/modifications with which to raise and lower the lower half of the WW P 15. What is on yours looks like a solution.

    • @ruddyducksailing

      Yeah it was built by a previous owner and it definitely worked but it was kinda bulky and cumbersome. I removed it because I’m rebuilding the rudder and I think I’m going to use lines and clam cleats instead. I’ll share in a video sometime what I come up with !

    You have my boat's sister! I am waiting for my new sails from Really Simple Sails. I will contact u when I come up there this summer. BTW do you have 140 pounds of rusty metal punchings used as ballast forward of your centerboard? I did. It was in a rotted cardboard box that had been glassed in place. I have clean lead there now.

    • @ruddyducksailing

      Yeah this boat had a lot of extra ballast. Someone put six 3”x 3’ pvc tubes filled with concrete next to the trunk. We took those out and found the decaying punchings that must’ve been a factory ballast job. We’re halfway through cleaning that rusty mess up and will probably replace with lead. What lead source did you use?

    • @liamstone3437

      @@ruddyducksailing I used wheel weights painstakingly melted and made into ingots. I happened to have made some years ago and had just enough for the job. I replaced my rudder with a ruddercraft rudder, made beefy new gudgeons (because the new rudder needed them) put in new acrylic port lights, rerigged for lines led aft, made boom end main sheet like yours, replaced all access panels, made wood core fiberglass wash boards, fiberglass galley box, and ordered my sails from Michael Storer in the Philippines. So yeah my 1979 boat is almost new now.

    Awesome little boat, I want to get me one. Are they hard to find?

    • @ruddyducksailing

      They are not too hard to find. Finding one in great shape with a nice trailer is harder. I tend to go for the cheaper project boats but there are a lot of nice p-15s for around $4500 on Craigslist or facebook marketplace

  • @PowerOfOne-u4h

    Nice boats. Are you able to add balast if it gets windy?

    • @ruddyducksailing

      There are no provisions for water ballast so there is no way to add weight while underway. They are very stable boats however and now that I’ve had time to sail more I feel confident up to 20 knots with a reef in the main.

  • @fredknoch

    The gusty conditions reminded me to ask you how your 2.5hp does pushing you neptune/newport into the wind in rough conditions. I just bought a Siren 17 and am trying to decide between 2 and 4 hp for camp cruising in the North Channel.

    • @ruddyducksailing

      So on the potter video we were running upwind on 1/4 throttle in 15 knot winds doing around 3 kts speed over ground. On the Newport we have gone upwind in 25+ kts doing around 2 kts speed over ground at 3/4 throttle. I assume we would be standing still at around 35 knots and full throttle

    Chris, yes on the bigger lakes here people definitely monitor the vhf and it’s a great safety tool. The sherif marine boats, fishermen, marinas, the navy ( at Pendoreille) and virtually every sailboat will monitor channel 16 and respond in a emergency.

      I am toying with selling my Sovereign and either building a scamp or getting a Potter 15.....still lots of thinking haha. The yellow and sun brella blue look really nice together....I think I have a pic somewhere. There was a blue strip on the hull and blue covers over the cockpit rails. I told my buddy he needed a new sunbrella blue sail cover his was yellow.

    • @svslowmotion6611

      I rewatched cause I am a sucker for small boats and noticed the mast and boom are black.....looks good on that potter.

    • @ruddyducksailing

      I’m definitely a fan of the yellow with black accents look. I think black sail, tiller and companionway covers would look sharp. And then I could throw on some carbon fiber racing sails to finish the look but that would be silly on a potter. Also if you had the time a scamp build would be very cool. They are starting to be quite popular and it must be for a good reason.

      @@ruddyducksailing Oh not too far from me. I'm near Lake Tahoe on the Nevada Side. And I've always wanted a little cruiser for that and other lakes here. I did a lot of sailing in my younger years. Competed on the west coast in much larger boats. My dad owned a 55ft Yawl and I sailed that for some years until he sold it. I could have killed him for that. LOL... New sub from your shorts by the way. Will keep watching.

    I have a 1977 WWP 15, hull #711. I'm interested in your plexiglass entryway. I just made a wooden stock recreation for mine but they don't last more than a few years. Thanks for sharing and look forward to more.

    • @ruddyducksailing

      Cool! I think the companionway is one of the weaknesses of the wwp 15. I like the plexiglass doors on mine and how they operate but they are old and need to be replaced. I might make the bottom section solid wood and build doors similar to what I have now. I like the fixed doors over removable boards because you don’t have to find a place to store them in such a small space
