Hi, I came across this video because im struggling to fit my PSU (Corsair CX750) in my 990 computer case.
Like you mentioned those black plastics wont let it in. So the only choice is to cut it you sad that I will if there is no other option. But the side cover of the computer case wont close anymore so is it a problem if I leave it like that?? I installed the PSU it works perfect though.
      Thanks!

Amazing tutorial. Just followed this to upgrade my own 990 into a low end gaming PC!
    Specs: i7-2600k 3.4Ghz
    GTX 1050 ti SC
    Corsair 430CX PSU
Things I had problems doing whilst upgrading:
For installing the GPU, you want to install windows WITHOUT the GPU first, then shut down, install the GPU and then wait. Windows will install the drivers to visualise it and then you can install your card specific drivers.
Problems starting up? Getting a black screen on your monitor? Go into BIOS (F12) and then check your settings for your hard drive and make sure it's ATA and not RAID otherwise it won't read your SSD.
Standard tempts for my setup is about 35 degrees C whilst idle and 70 whilst at full load gaming.
Good luck guys! This tutorial is really good.

Long story short: was at the electronic recycling depot in Canmore Alberta Canada (a very rich people mountain town) and found 12 Dell Optiplex 990's stacked up beside a recycling bin. Took em all home, wiped them, reinstalled Windows, upgraded a couple to keep using for media PC's, still have one till this day. These PC's are BEASTS, has never let me down once.

I have one of these as my daily driver PC. It runs really great. Its got an i7 2600 3.40 (stock), 8gb RAM (stock), 500gb SSD (crucial) + 500gb HDD (stock), 500w PSU (EVGA), and a 1050Ti 4gb (Zotac). It can handle most games, but only at low-med settings. Of course this is with a 144hz monitor, so I think that plays into it as well. I'm planning to buy a 16gb RAM kit soon, I often find that I'm running out of memory for the tasks I do. Thanks so much for this video, I really couldn't have done this without you.

I bumped into the power supply width issue the other day with one of these , I broke off the part of the sliding mechanism in the rear corner and slid the front part forward to allow the larger psu clearance and retained the latch functionality- although it’s definitely not as smooth as it was before. Also the extra psu width made hooking up the cables to the disk reader harder. I personally like to drop the disk reader down to the bottom expansion slot to allow more room topside for cable management. Great video by the way - very helpful!

I had the issue with the latch and my Corsair PSU being too wide. You don't need to cut the latch, you can simply unhook it. It's held in with a spring or two that very easy to undo, easier than cutting it.

Why not a SSD for OS & HDD for Data? The bays are there, I have same PC! Also used a EVGA G3 550W (Gold rated) modular PSU, made cable management a breeze, plus a $25 rebate, making it only $45 shipped. Also found a i7-2600 for only $39 on eBay. Total cost was $130, had a MSI Radeon HD 7770 GHz edition GPU laying for 4 years to install. With a drive bay mod (cutting & drilling), can install most any long card & all looks neat. Plus can run a Samsung 950 PRO (has it's own Boot ROM) if desired in the x4 slot in MBR mode.

The power supply is the most overlooked item in the computer and the part that fails the most other than hard drives in my experience. Many times cheap power supplies take out more parts when they fail such as boards, processors, video cards etc. I say get a decent power supply for stability and longevity.

Thanks for your videos ,I just found this video I would just upgrade the 990 but the case is kinda hard to look at although my grandkids may laugh at my pc but they wouldn't laugh at the performance lol. Hey, is it possible to attach a fan in the front of the Dell, above the drive cage? I want to put a 120mm fan for intake.

Would an Optiplex 990 with the default power supply be fine with a GTX 650 Ti, provided I remove the optical drive? Who needs one of those things. :P

We're there any issues with the 24 pin connector from the new PSU to the MB? Dell is famous for proprietary wiring and I'm worried about frying my MB.

I just upgraded my 990 mt to a different psu, no issues. I believe the 7010, 3010 and 9010 are the last to not use proprietary 24 pin
