    And y'all seriously need to reach out to Chris Bartocci of Small Arms Solutions. His knowledge of the AR/M16/M4 platform is second to none. He worked for Colt for 10 years and was a forensic firearm examiner for about the same time. Seriously. Reach out to this dude. Really knowledgeable and humble dude.

      I second this. He is very knowledgeable and worked with many military groups on their testing and evaluation of rifles and handguns.

    Almost every semi auto combat rifle ever made has something that performs like a FA. It's bizarre that someone would not want it. I'm an ex grunt, I've used mine quite a few times.

    What i grasped from the AR-15 cleaning is they are like car engines. You do not need to wipe them down and sit there and clean them like crazy. Just re lube them i.e. change your oil and change wear parts like belts as they reach there life span like you would springs in the AR. At least that is what came to mind for me. Would that be a good way to compare the idea?

    • @theseraphium91F
      @theseraphium91F 7 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Fu IVIanChoo I always ask soldiers that have weapon malfunctions due to lack of lubricants if they would drive their vehicle without oil.

    • @marcogram1216
      @marcogram1216 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They definitely don't need to be ran "wet". A wipe down with a lightly oiled rag is plenty. Excessive oil does nothing but attract and hold dirt/carbon. Also, that excess oil burns down to a coke/tar shit when mixed with carbon. It just adds to more cleaning and wear. The moving parts in an AR are tool hardened steel. They won't gall. A rifle is NOT like a car. It doesn't have a sump and an oil filter.

    • @green2blue309
      @green2blue309 5 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      marcogram I need to get to the drawing board and design an AR15 oil filter...
      I could make bank at the gun shows. 😂

    • @marcogram1216
      @marcogram1216 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@green2blue309 Super bank no doubt. I have grabbed more than enough civilians and "duty" ARs that were so damn sloppy with oil that my shooting glasses were totally FUBAR after just a couple of rounds. Where that dumb shit came from I have no idea. We ran an older Bushmaster and an Armalite for both in excess of 2000 rounds before they went down. They were just wiped down lightly on the BCG and bolt with that older LSA that is about $14 a quart. No wonder lubes, no carbon scraping for hours. They went down because chunks of carbon fell into the trigger control groups. As far as I know they are both still going today.

  • @MacDorsai
    @MacDorsai 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    My personal opinion about the military's philosophy with cleaning small arms is at its heart, a carryover from the days of black powder weapons. Black powder residue is hygroscopic, i.e. it attracts and absorbs moisture from the air. If you didn't clean a weapon thoroughly, as soon as you practically could after the shooting was over, it would start to rust. Simply preserving the weapon required that it be frequently cleaned and oiled.

    When I was at Sand Hill at Fort Benning my nighttime training was I kid you not. " Shoot into the darkness with nods"
    You did not need to aim at the Target to do this.
    The only requirement was the PVS 14 was down and then you fire into the night. It did not matter if you shot from the hip or not.

    Black powder is not highly corrosive. Corrosion issues in BP firearms are from corrosive substitutes or from (historically) mercury fulminate primers.

    • @exohead1
      @exohead1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Black powder is very mildly corrosive, but you can generally just leave it be and it'll be okay for a while.

    cyanide is CN-, not C3, which is cyclopropatriene. I just have to point that out, because I do not think that word means what you think it means. Unless it's a different compound, then it's made of one carbon and one nitrogen.

    I'm not sure copper fouling is perpetually cumulative. It'd be nice to have a qualified opinion on the cumulative nature of copper build up.
    If you guys can get on barrel makers like Krieger, FN, and Daniel Defense to weigh in on these things that would be awesome.

    It would be nice to know- a few of the actual moderator-approved AR's out there. Roland gave his support for the 416 but that's vaporware, and don't say Hodge because it's easier to come by a 416 upper than one of those guns. So which one's y'all, what are your personal go-to AR's at home or models you would say- yea, go buy one of those.

      Cole W I doubt anyone will say don't go with a Sons of liberty gun works or BCM. Colt has had some issues recently. I build ARs off of FN, Ballistic advantage, or Wilson combat barrels. I don't think you can go wrong with FN.

      P&S doesn't like lists because things change and companies can go from good products to shit (looking at you Kimber and anything Freedom Group buys). As of now BCM and SOLGW are highly regarded though.

    I don't get the Tavor HATE ?? Way Less malfunctions than my AR's (0 malfunctions vs oodles) & clearing hard malfunctions in the Tavor is easy. Pop the mag out, work the op- rod, load, op-rod BANG. The weakness of the AR is that extractor & gas springs. I've had it happen twice to me. X-95 has proved itself. JUST HEAVY.

    • @Masta_E
      @Masta_E 5 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Have you done a class with both an AR and the tavor?

    • @markbennettjr
      @markbennettjr 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Masta_E did a SLED class years ago with a DPMS Ar-15 . I own both. Had a STAG ARMS and a COLT both blow extractors . I much prefer the Tavor x-95, and AK. They run like butter, feed steel case easy, and have not failed me. I cannot say that for the Stag or the COLT ar15s. Running x-95 malfunction drill really isn't bad at all. You hold on to the left charging handle with your left hand, activate the bolt hold open with you right.
