    I've had a few different Klein tools and always liked their quality. I already like this Klein screwdriver over the Milwaukee from this video. A ratcheting screwdriver does nothing for me, having used a regular one so much that it's actually faster most of the time. I really like that the Klein holds normal bits.

    • @billythygoat
      @billythygoat 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      The ratcheting screwdriver is only useful if you have a bunch of screws that don't have much resistance.

    • @milesparris4045
      @milesparris4045 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @@billythygoat If there's little or no resistance, it's faster with a regular screwdriver because I can spin it with my fingertips. If there's resistance, the ratcheting only helps if the device is really tight, otherwise I waste time and motion with slop in the mechanism.

    I've had that Milwaukee for years and really like it.
    Only downside is that the bits can be VERY hard to remove, though I think they fixed this in newer models. I'm talking you have to find whichever bit is loosest, push that one out, then use that bit to push out the stuck bit you actually want.
    Same problem with Milwaukee's mini version of this ratcheting screwdriver, so I know it's not just my copy.

    I do like both Klein and Milwaukee for tools, but the best screw driver for I have found is the Ideal Electrical 35-988 ratcheting nut driver/ screwdriver. I have been using this model screw driver for about 15 years in my service tool kit daily and I would be lost without it! In fact I keep a brand new back up one in case I lose or misplace mine. Just my two cents!

    One good attribute of the more basic version of an all-in-one driver such as the Greenlee shown at 0:14 in your video, is that they can have three different nut driver sizes in that shaft. I use those all the time when dealing with small sheet metal screws and hose clamps, etc.
    None of these are perfect for all conditions, but some work better than others. I have several, and use them for different applications. I like that Klein version. That Milwaukee with the long driver bits will have an issue when you break or lose one of the bits. That style is harder to find than the shorter replacements. Also, I can't say that I have ever really needed the ratcheting feature, but I do have at least one multi-driver with it.

      I agree. That's why I haven't given up my 11-1 magnetic Klein. Specifically for the various nut drivers. As an apartment maintenance tech, that tool has been extremely versatile for me. Can go from removing garbage disposal to removing nuts from a condenser unit within the same hour.

    Wanted to mention another solid choice in an All-in-One screwdrivers- the AutoLoader Auto-Loading Multi-Bit Screwdriver by Franklin Tool Company. I kept one in the Kitchen junk drawer for years and it has proven invaluable for me as well as my Family. It holds six 1/4" bits and they store in a chamber inside the handle, you extend the handle. rotate the chamber to the desired bit, push the handle back and the bit is automatically loaded in the magnetic holder. You can replace the bits when they wear over time or customize to your liking.
    I recently purchased their Precision Autoloader which is a smaller driver that holds six Microbits which is great for eyeglasses, kids toys, electronics, as well as Firearm and Knife work.They hold and store my Wiha Micobits just fine as well.
    Vat19 has both models available...currently on back order though.

    That Klein is fantastic. The flip bit screwdrivers have no way to get replacement or alternate bits. So if you break or wear out the one you use most, the whole tool is now junk. Taking standard 1/4 inch hex bits is a big advantage. If you lose/break/wear out a bit, or just want different ones, you can swap with other standard 1 inch long bits, or use them in an impact driver with a bit holder, which the shank on that Klein is. The 1 inch long bits will also give some tip magnetism from the holder. Even more utility can be added with the 7-in-1 impact flip socket kit on the Klein, giving 6 common nut driver sizes. That puts 13 bits, 6 nut driver sizes, you can still shorten it down if needed, and can all be used on an impact driver.

But my kleins get used much more often. Klein has a ratcheting 15 in 1 that does 90% of what I need it to do. For the rare times I need something more, I turn to the klein 27 in 1.

My issue with milti bit screw drivers is that its always hard to fit them into tight places requiring me to search for a standard screw driver. I rarely ever find use for ratcheting on screw drivers its more needed in mechanics in tight engine bays.

    I've had a lot of miles with the Milwaukee and I can say with some firsthand experience it's a fair tool, but not ideal. The long shanks are the best selling point as they don't have that collar which can prevent them from fitting in tighter spaces. Ratcheting is nice if you do a lot of driver work by hand, otherwise I think most till opt for a drill, in any trade setting. This is also likely why I saw a lot of ripped out heads in my job. I replaced a lot of outlets and switches and I'd wager the better part of 80% had shredded heads. I did all of mine by hand to help prevent this, especially on the overly busy junction boxes. (I was also the only one to remove cover plates when painting...)
    They were incredibly tough to pull out of their slots which bears well for retention, but terrible for in field common use. It definitely isn't a magnet retaining them, but an O-ring with some serious bite. There's security, but it becomes the sort of thing you seek to compromise when you use it with frequency. I put mine through a serious amount of miles before bailing on that company, and I have zero doubts it will live in that tool bag until the bits get lost.
    There is some serious play, but nothing I'd worry about for common use. It never "walked" off on me due to how it was constructed.

    I'm a network technician or field tech as they call us for short. Anyways, I originally bought the Milwaukee ratcheting screwdriver and it is absolutely amazing, probably one of the best screwdrivers or at least all around screwdriver I have ever bought or one of them at least.
    But I really just wanted a screwdriver that could hold the small bits and somehow have stored stored in the handle somehow.
    Incomes of 14 and 1 Klein tools screwdriver ( I got the 15 in 1 with the nut drivers) Now as I've used both these tools in the field for
    long periods of time I have to say I really do enjoy the Klein tools and it's versatility and comfortability in all day use.
    There is a drawback though when I'm trying to work with tight spaces as in like I need to get the screwdriver part into somewhere real tight the Milwaukee is the way to go hands down. The fact that I work in networking this situation comes up a lot and as much as I like Klein tools and it's versatility and comfort it can't do every job where the Milwaukee can.
    So as it stands now I have two technician pouches that I now use. one is for telecom and data and the other is for data center and wireless networking. That way whenever I go out to do a specific job, I know which kind of tool pouch I need to grab.

The fact that I have to store a bit in the shaft. Plus had the large Milwaukee go bad on the rachet mechanism. I switched to the Klein 14 n 1 rachet screwdriver. After just a month what a difference in work. The Klein suffored from none of the flaws of the Milwaukee. From the experience of owning both I'll take the Klein. oh yeah? interesting. all the kleins ive had, the rubber handle has gotten loose and fallen off. the one milwaukee i had, it was a smaller precision bit screwdriver, the thing was super loose and bits fell out. i might hafta check out a lenox.

    I've never liked any ratcheting screwdriver I've laid hands on. Luckily Milwaukee has a wide selection of all-in-one's and some do not ratchet. Also they have ECX bits included with some.

  • @csimet
    @csimet 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Kind of an unfair comparison... the equivalent Klein to compare the Milwaukee with is the ratcheting 32305. I have it, as well as the 32303 you show.
    The extra advantage the 32303 (and 32308 stubby version) have is they accept the 32900 7-in-1 flip socket shaft (and bits - sold with or without a handle). Gives you an added 6 nut drivers on top of the screwdriver bits… all in one easy to carry unit. They are also impact rated, along with the ability to swap the shafts/bits between the handles.

    I prefer the lutz 15-1. Has ratcheting mechanism both directions, huge number and sizes of bits, parts don’t fall out, full size handle. Only would be nicer with rubber handle. I have them all over the house.

    This thing is fantastic. th-cam.com/users/postUgkx1McjgiqTNcTjrhvRvJWcrk5bzTeQW-Wn Easy to store in a bag in "screwdriver" position, not heavy but well built, and the location of the button makes it easy to screw or unscrew with one hand in either "gun" or "screwdriver" position. My only real complaint is there isn't a clip anywhere to store another bit, and the bit isn't a combo dual-ended bit either, so the flathead and P1/P0 philips bits we have to carry around invariably get misplaced.Note: Apparently Black + Decker changed this same Li2000 model from "Type 2" to "Type 3". This new "Type 3" appears to be slightly lighter, and the charging plug is now larger, with a little metal piece to keep it snug. I never noticed the "Type 2" version charger plug to not be perfectly snug, so not sure why this change was made - it does make it annoying that our shop now has 8 of these, and the new 3 have different charging plugs :/

    Milwaukee screwdriver is the only one with long bits. I remember when I wanted to screw a stand on my TV and I only had a multi screwdriver. Because of the thick bit holder I couldn't reach a screw. That is the only reason I go with Milwaukee.

    I've never understood the purpose of a screwdriver that ratchets. I've had them before and saw no practical use for the ratchet function.
    A ratchet for sockets makes sense because the handle is at an angle in relation to the bit; a straight screwdriver is not.
    Maybe I'm missing something

    Another great video. I mostly work with precision screwdrivers. So a few years back I got a Precision Autoloader (th-cam.com/video/1ld8moyYTL8/w-d-xo.html). Just like you, I found the ratcheting option weakens the design a bit. But it's still a great tool.
    There was the full size Autoloader (th-cam.com/video/VPwCg9-73qg/w-d-xo.html). It was rebranded and sold under many names (ie Seiko). I genuinely surprised it didn't last. Therefore, it can be hard to find them. Even online.
    I'm genuinely surprised you didn't cover the Wera Kraftform Kompakt (th-cam.com/video/MGd-X7wx6w4/w-d-xo.html) since I saw you had a Wera screwdriver in that initial pile. These are solidly built like the Klein you should but with a few more features (ergonomics, push button release)
