these fans saying Southgate has done good up to now i don't buy it. He's been blagging it for years with easy runs and inheriting our best squad in years. we've played absolute shite football for years under him, been getting free rides through the tournaments for years. We beat the worst German team in years and choked in a final against the worst Italian team ever and people suddenly think hes a magician. The man has been blagging it from day 1. My club is in the championship and i wouldn't want him there to be honest he would probably relegate us, absolute no pattern of play whatsoever.

It's evident that the established players in the group: Pickford, Walker, Trippier Stones, Rice, Bellingham, Saka and Kane have become a reflection of Southgate's drab personality. They're not exhibiting leadership when it's needed i.e. when the team drops deep after scoring. And the attackers seem to be playing safe, playing with fear and not taking risks. Compare the performances of these lot, to the energy, creativity and risk-taking that Palmer, Mainoo and Gordon showed on the pitch. The new players haven't had time to absorb Southgate's negativity and are therefore able to play with some flair and freedom.
Exactly it's night and day compared to when they play with their clubs because they've brought into the mentality that Gareth has for the England team so every time they put on the shirt you see that. So experienced quality players like that end up playing sloppy football and get pressed and pushed by teams they should be winning against convincingly

The man is right. Even history has shown us. Southgate has had easy route in tournaments and scraped past teams on penalties. As soon as we come up against a good side then his negativity and lack of creativity are our downfall. People can bang on about his win % or getting deep into tournaments but a good manager adapts his tactics to the situation and wins tournaments.

@@jackdelacey2505 if you know anything about football, you will know the managers role is an important one, and as Southgate has shown with the fantastic squad of players, he simply doesn't know how to manage them or set them up. Warnock is far far more experienced, Wiley, and respected, and would get a far better tune out of them, there is no way you or anyone can deny that. He would use every ounce of his experience to get every possible return from that squad of players.
Who hires him when he leaves? No prem club which says it all.
He won't stay in management. He'll get some ambassador or consultant role where he mostly gives after dinner speeches for large fees

1986 is the first international comp I remember. Mexico. I had the panini sticker book and collected all the stickers. I remember the Hand of God moment. I remember Italia 90. Nessum Dorma. I cried when we left the competition on penalties; Garza, Linekar, etc. I remember ‘94. USA. We hadn’t qualified but i remember McDonalds had a “hat trick burger”. France 98; Beckham red card. Huddle…. My child hood years are full of memories around England in international camps. They brought the country together. I felt pride and excitement throughout the tournament.

Joshmaddo - I don't think you'd find many England fans who'd disagree with you. The only thing I would say is that there doesn't seem to be many great international teams around at the moment. But a team doesn't need to necessarily be great to beat us, they just need to be attack minded and competent. I can't say with any confidence that we'd beat anyone at the moment, let alone the likes of Germany, France, Spain etc

Considering foden hasn't been played in his correct position, at least foden leaving and going back to England for family matters

favourite position, or use both Bellingham and Foden as rotation players. It could also force southgate to use Bellingham
alongside rice, which would free up the 10 position for foden and palmer. If foden doesnt come back, then we still have
Bellingham who could actually start playing well or palmer, who might be given a chance as a 10. Foden leaving could
actually accidentally fix England and force sothgate to make the right decisions. England might actually start to play at

Right now, I have no confidence in the squad with Southgate at the helm. Even though we're playing Slovakia, I don't trust the manager or the players not to repeat the same abysmal performance.
I would predit a narrow win in next game followed by a narrow loss in quarters, FA will ask Southgate to quit himself and offer him another job in the FA that wiull be the safest outcome for England, this talk of Carsley has to end as well he is another who has won ziltch. Id rather have Potter or Howe if English or even Gerard but we would be better luring Pep or Klopp to the job they both know the players and how to get the best out of them. Its also time for the older players to leave as well Walker, Trippier and Stones will all need replacement going forward perhaps Kane may get the next world cup out of him but I would wipe the slate almost clean after this, even if we fluke to a win.

He ain't going to get sacked during the tournament it is what it is at this point. But this should be his last tournament and he should be getting his P45 before the plane even touches down in Heathrow. I’m not defending Southgate. I agree we’ve been poor throughout 2024 . I wouldn’t call two semi’s and a final rubbish . It’s clear that the fault lies with Southgate. If we look at teams like Austria, Georgia, Switzerland, Rumania and Slovakia, all of whom on paper have worse players than England, they play as a team.
