This is exactly what I've been saying for quite a while. We got away with that performance on Sunday, it so easily could have been a draw!! The man's got zero in game tactics apart from when the opposition causes us a problem and scores. Then he'll throw a little bit of caution to the wind and chuck 2 attacking players on. It's so frustrating as you say.

As is becoming a recurring occurrence under Southgate, England start well, score early and then become and more defensive throughout the game. It leads to England just scraping through games or drawing/losing as happened in 2 of our biggest recent games, Euro 2020 Final and World Cup 2018 Semi-final. 2 games we probably should have gone on to win after good starts. It doesn’t look like Southgate has learned from those mistakes and I can’t see us going all the way unless changes in mindset happen.

11:16 the reason fans from other countries don't like "it's coming home" isn't the implication that England are going to win. It's the "home" part. They don't like the suggestion that England is the home of football.
As an American, the overwhelming response I've seen from the English media, these guys included, to yesterday's performance has been beyond dissapointing. England were terrible. Southgate was abysmal and both he and the team did absolutely nothing to allay any of the critiques or obvious, glaring weaknesses the team had going into the tournament. I don't think Gareth Southgate actually knows how to watch or understand the game. Foden in-possession was drifting into essentially a RAM position, but England struggled mightily in the transition part of the game, in part because he offered nothing along the left side in buildup play and because Trippier had to play so high up the pitch as the inverted winger really in possession. Their shape defensively was a mess and a team with more dynamic wingers would have punished their defense. Trent's in-possession play yesterday as the 8 wasn't good enough to justify how poor the team was in defensive transtion, and England still build up far too slowly because you have a goalkeeper who does not want to play the ball out of the back and players whose shape is so drastically different OOP than IP that it takes ages for them to reset the formation. After the first half an hour it was clear than Serbia began to control the game and their press was effective because these players are clearly not used to playing that far from their established positons out of possession, nor did they work hard enough to get back into a coherent defensive shape. Foden cannot play along the left side, even once Shaw is healthy, this was beyond apparent. How Southgate doesn't sub him and Trent off by minute 50 when they were under a lot of pressure and when so many turnovers were being created by Serbia as a result of their positioning is beyond me. Again, it's results-oriented to think it worked just fine because Serbia didn't have guys get in the box to finish some of the chances created; Serbia are not the 10th best team in this tournament, let alone a side that England could see in a quarterfinal. England were bailed out by a seminal moment of brilliance from their best player. If they play like that again out of the group stage they might not even make the quarterfinals which would be shocking giving the wealth of talent they have.
It's not torvil and Dean it's not Marks out of ten... it's about winning...the past is irrelevant people's opinions are irrelevant....the team seemed fine with the result and on to the next
@@leeturton9254 the point is that unless Southgate's tactics change and/or the players suddenly become familiar with how they're being asked to play, this team isn't going to do anything significant in this tournament. And given that these things have never changed and the criticisms that were prevalent before the match evidentally played out, I doubt we're going to see any signficant changes.
@@JamesCM86 It's not dramatic at all to say that by their standards that was an abysmal display and if they play like that against any of the top 10 teams in the tournament they won't make it to the quarters. Which would be a joke given the talent in the squad.
All praise, zero criticism. It's as if these 2 are employed by the FA. With the quality of the squad England have, Southgate is massively underperforming
Think most of the players massively underperformed too. I dont understand why they never come in for criticism and its just Southgate that gets slated.
@@usama6696 Fodens poor performance was less about tactical instructions and just poor individual. Southgate gets zero credit when we navigate the tournaments and managed the Germany game well (just cries of Germany arent very good any more). The France game we had more chances and more possession, we were setup well. I wouldn't want him managing my club team, though given the severe lack of alternatives and what he has actually achieved after an horrific 2008-2018 spell for the national side, I do feel he is overhated.
not a single comment relating to the tactical disaster class Southgate put on vs Serbia; nothing about negative game style, lack of ability to control the ball or territory, or advise on how he could of done this with his formation and subs. What do these people get paid for? Sycophancy to the FA?
In the 11 tournaments before Southgate, we won 2 games. If we fail to build from here, then its an issue, though 3 points and a clean sheet are the main things. Hopefully we see an improvement v Denmark.
@mrsmokingskittles148 minus the team tribalism. I genuinely think the hatred shared between Chelsea, Arsenal, United and Liverpool bled into that England squad.
@SeriousBartYT change how england build up: get stones to step into midfield like how he does for man city. So you build up with a 3-2 shape (keeper, guehi, trippier / rice, stones). This allows u to push trent further forward and use him properly rather than have him as a sitting 6 trying to move the ball side to side with 5 yard passes. You also get a numerical superiority further forward to help keep the ball and not have kane so isolated. Get a more direct left sided midfielder to stretch the pitch (esp when shaw is out). Get the right back to push up and saka to tuck in more into the right half space.
I'm not dissapointed because we didn't play well. I'm mainly dissapointed because we haven't learned from our mistakes. Southgate is still poor to react and understand the oppositions tactical changes. Yes Serbia are a decent side but a top 10 side would have at least equalised given the slowness of England to react. We haven't improved tactically since 2018
Southgate is shoehorning in players, at the cost of positional and tactical aspects. If he wants Alexander-Arnold, play him as a fullback, if not, drop him. Mainoo was immense this spring, and also worked wonderfully with Rice before the euro. Play 4-2-3-1 to avoid teams overloading like Serbia in the second half. No balance in the team, and England will lose against the best teams if Southgate doesn't fix this.
Portugal were goal less until the 60th minute against croatia and even their equalizer was an own goal. People need to pipe down and back the team and manager. Hes taken us further than weve been consecutively in decades. Youre all saying southgate out thats what the other nations want its planned. But hey, if you lot wanna see england go back to nowhere when southgates gone be my guest but ill be the first to say told you so. COME ON ENGLAND ❤
I live in Texas and have been saying for years that England are the Dallas Cowboys of international football. The parallels are uncanny. I can also confirm that “It’s Coming Home” does grind people’s gears as they consider it as arrogance but I don’t think most realize it stems from the Euro 96 theme song of the tournament returning to England.
Most foreign fans (I'm one too) I've talked to look upon England and think it's a criminal waste of potential. Worst game of the tournament so far possibly. You can be solid without being boring, look at Eddie Howe's Newcastle team for example.
to say Foden needs to be more like Jude and dominate (or whatever Fabregas quote was) is so reductive, not everyone can dominate, it's a team game and you need to get the most out of as many players as possible to win tournaments. comparing Foden and Bellingham just leans into the notion that it's about indviduals and not the team. Jude plays in central midfield and does everything, he can go back and break up play, get on the ball and drive forward, he can make late runs into the box etc etc. it's much easier to dominate procedings from this role. Foden is playing as an inside forward and is entirely dependent on players finding him (and not Pickford long balls) in the key areas he can be most effective in. once he starts to go deeper looking for the ball in the same way as Jude does he's no longer providing balance to the team or really playing in the way that gets the most from him, which is essentially what was happening in the last game as it went on. we need more balance to the team, it's very right side heavy in build up and forward play. Shaw should help when he comes back (assuming he's fit and finds some form, which I'm dubious he will) but in the meantime I'd look at something different and go 3-4-3, dropping Trippier for Gordon in left mid (Bellingham alongside Rice and TAA right mid). back three basically defend only. Moves TAA into his best position, Bellingham can still do all his normal thing from there, whilst Gordon offers threat wide left, which pins defenders and helps Foden find more space and time between the lines when he drifts inside, whilst Gordon also has workrate to press and get back to help defensively. it can make a box midfield with Foden, Bellingham, Rice and TAA (or Stones even), whilst retaining width (Gordon & Saka). TAA can support Saka wide keeping the threat of the overlap meaning Saka can come inside on his left as he likes doing (last game he went on the outside far more than normal which was great to see) without the same risk of being caught out on the counter when Walker goes forward as we can be very vulnerable without his pace to cover our high line. whilst Stones can step out into midfield to help ball retention at times and still have two narrowish defenders behind him providing cover. offers loads more variability and balance without losing much defensively. When Shaw is fit he can swap in for Gordon potentially if you wanted more defensive cover.
Need to sort out the left flank entirely. Not having Sancho, Grealish or Rashford leaves us with untested options here, which, for me, is very silly. He needs to back either Gordon or Eze. I have a slight preference for Eze. Then he needs to make the trio of Bellingham, Foden and Rice function together in central areas. You can't stick Foden out on the left. Then we may see a more complete looking side. No more square pegs please Garth.
Defensive EG = 0.17 is amazing vs top strikers. Trent is Pirlo 2.0 & if Klopp can get world-class passes out of him then so can Gareth. Pirlo dominated WC2006 & defeated Zidane & Thiery Henry almost single handed. He did not tackle much. GOAT left back Maldini said, Pirlo u pass the effing ball & we will do all the tackling. ☆Defence ☆Wins 🏆 & Strikers only win golden 👢 boots (ask Emi Martinez the Villa GK who kept Argy in the World Cup with a worldy last miniute save & then played a blinder in the pen shoot-out. Also ask Harry (Worlds top 9) if he prefers scoring 1 fine cup final winning goal or 7 worldy goals in 7 games to win the golden boot). Gary Nevilles & Souness & ESPN Jules plan B of dropping Jude to 8 & putting Foden into 10 is cool too. But its not as cool as Gabs & Rio's plan A of Jude is a hybrid of Zidane & DiStefano & Bobby Charlton so let the Brummie Lion hunt. Unleash him with worldclass passing from Trent & crosses from Gordon & Palmer who are on 🔥. Saka & Foden can be impact subs until they get fully fit. The Maths Profs are not criticising Gareth, in fact they are happy with him as their calculations show Saka Harry Foden & Stones are not fit yet. Yes the midfield are growing & not 100% cohesive yet. But is Conor G or Teen Kobbie gonna open up top Defences like Trent can? So keep the faith pundits cuz they predicted Messi wud win the world cup when 99% of u lot said France wud win. Gareth was trying to knock the rust off Foden & Saka & Kane & Stones. Trying to settle Trent into a new midfield central duo (don't understand the criticisms of Trent as he didnt give any goals away & had some nice shots & nice dribbles & passes. Yes he lost the ball twice (but Foden lost it a lot more). What's Trent supposed to do when tired Saka & Foden & Kane & Stones were giving the ball away in the 2nd half. World cup winner Fabregas thought Trent did well & said TAA & Rice are a duo like Busquets & Xavi of Spain 2008 to 2012. See them as one entity. They love playing with each other & Trents super passing weds beautifully with Dec's robust play. Fab & Souness know more about midfield play than 99% of other TV pundits will ever know. GS may still move Trent to wing back & Kyle Right CB if he wants a fully fit Foden at 10 & Jude at 8. However Fabregas thought Trent did well so who are we to doubt World cup winner Fab. GS is trying to get em fit & and that's why GS was a bit slow in making subs. He wants em fit for the knockout stages & thats why Sir Alf played very young Alan Ball & G.Hurst a lot in earlier games. They played brilliantly in the final. So keep channelling Sir Alf energy Gareth. The spirits of the old 1966, 3 Lions is aiding you Gareth & Jude & co. (Bobby Moore, Jackie C, Sir Bobby C, Bally, Hunt, Cohen, Wilson & Banks). Just keep praying well, sleeping well & be brave like Sir Alfs Lion's. Nice start. Euro Winners dont start 4-0. They grow game by game & peak in the final, just like Messi & Argentina 2022. Rust got knocked off. Clean sheets & defence wins cups. Serbia had only 0.17 Expected Goals & Maths. Profs loved that stat. New midfield duo of Dec & Trent did well & will grow together. Guehi was good. Saka was good until running out of energy in the 2nd half. Foden was very rusty & will grow. Harry forced a great save onto the bar & did a goal line clearance. JUDE was JUDE. The Brummie Boss did what he does & Karen Carney was smiling. No wonder the two Ronaldos (R9 & CR7) & Don Carlo Anceloti call Jude a hybrid of Zidane & Di Stefano. Gareth may have to start Palmer & Gordon as both are fitter than Saka & Foden. Then bring on Saka & Foden & Conor & Watkins as impact subs to keep energy levels high in 2nd half. When Argentina lost to Saudi, the top pundits did not lose faith. Souness & Simon Jordan & Shearer & Rio & Pougatch new Messi wud turn his young inexperienced kittens into Lions by growing them game by game. It feels like Jude is gonna do the same. Age 20 going on 40 ( mentally) the Brummie is the Boss of this 3 Lions pride. That UCL win has increased his hunger for glory. That's why playing UCL winners makes a huge difference. But Gareth may have to use Foden & Gomez as impact subs until they get fit to start. DO YO daily prayers 3 lions fans & thank u for not having drunken fights as that's how Argentina ended 36 years of hurt. Losing the ball 20 times in the defensive half in 2nd half was not good vs losing it 8 times in the first half, which was excellent. That can be fixed with improved fitness & better SLEEP after prayer or meditations, which in turn improves focus. Remember the conundrum of how to fit Scholes, Lampard and Gerard? And seems like England having decent players that are not playing in their best positions or being played out of position? Trippier at LB? Foden as a left-sided attacker? With the current group phase, overhyped England may still get past sides with such squares-in-circles kind of line up Depending on where they finish and end up playing in the Round of 16 (runners-up Grp C to face potentially Germany; winner Grp C to face 3rd place side from D/E/F which freak results could well see Belgium, Portugal, France into the hat), they will get found out big time.
I agree on the "media circus" around the England National Team. These past 10 years its been more moderate partly also because of the dearth of talented squad, lately its been building back up. Hopefully this England team can keep their heads and being typical English arrogant. Do England need to improve after the first game? Absolutely yes. Southgate has to find a way/ tell the midfielders to control the ball, not bunker up with 1-0 and tons of time to go. But as long as they find way to improve, find ways to involve Bellingham, Kane and Foden more, they should be fine. Its tournament football, the most aesthetic team don't always wins, in fact rarely wins. Brazil 70, Spain 2008-2012 are the exceptions.
The “it’s coming home” being only bantz and not a serious thing it’s 100% not true 😂 Pre Croatia game everyone was talking about the final and singing the song. Same against Italy, the talk of a victory over Italy in the street was an almost foregone conclusion. The hubris was palpable. You only have to look at the chaos that ensued as a measure of how much the it’s coming home was believed to be true. It was incredible when Croatia and Italy won those game. Underdogs defeating arrogance. Great stories and lessons to everyone involved.
England fans making the exact same mistake they did back in the noughties talking about our team as should-be world beaters because bellingham is a CL/La Liga winner, Foden, Walker, Stones have won a lot, Kane has scored bucketloads over the years just like how we talked about England back in the day because we had 'world class' players terry, gerrard, lamard, rooney, etc. THERE ARE NO WHIPPING BOYS IN THIS COMPETITION. They are all good teams. We have no right to be wining 4 nil against any of them. Our pre tournament friendly against Iceland was a practice game with an experimental starting line up because it was a friendly. We won our first game. We didn't concede. That is perfectly godd start to the competition. Southgate has a fantastic record compared to prior managers going back to the 60s. People have short menories and need to get a grip.
I don’t buy into the importance of Southgate’s role in England’s new age happy camp. The club rivalries of the 90’s and 00’s just don’t exist anymore. If that’s all we credit Southgate for then it’s time to remove the nanny and install a proper coach.
Ahaha Ayo bit excited there at the start, it wasnt 3-0 aha. Maybe against Slovenia if they keep Sesko quiet, could be something like that. But in all seriousness- not the best start for England but they got the 3 points, Bellingham got his goal which is promising. Australian myself btw
Southgate has had a negative impact on the psyche because now the players seem to lose all cohesion on the pitch. Yeah, they are better in camp and at press conferences, but he is not a communication chief, he's a coach. They are not well coached, they have no idea how to get the ball from defense to the forwards. Every team we play works out how to press our defense and we get pinned back. It shows that players in the midfield and forwards can't press the opposition defense, and the defense can't play out.
The problem with your apologetic approach to Southgate is that you wrongly imply that coming from a long line of underachieving English teams somehow justifies the non excellence of this team . As if there was some causal factor within Englishness or within past teams that still affects this team . Southgate does this too . Constantly reminding people how England haven’t won much , There is no continuity in “England “ so this argument makes no sense . This is a new team who happen to be English . Based on their players’ capacity RIGHT NOW they should be judged and if you do that then you see why so many fans are furious with this manager .
After that performance how can Jack say England could be a team like Portugal 2016. This England arent even 2018 England vintage, there is no discernable plan or working formation this time and Southgate worries me that he doesnt know his best team yet. He shouldnt be playing different teams or formations in every game and he definitely should have found a starting partner for Rice that isnt an experimental TAA.
I do not think I am a particularly critic but I don't care about the players having a camaraderie and a good culture. I want them to win. Can't Oli Kay realize that time after time England collapse against the first decent team they face. He's the one with the short memory, not the fans
It's telling that when Jack is asked about Southgate at the end he does the whole "Different type of football" defence. It's one that Didier Deschamps doesn't need if comparing him to the top Club Managers, nor did Mancini need it. And it's interesting how quite a few teams actually seem to be pivoting this Euros to a style nearer to what Top Clubs play (Am thinking Italy choosing Spalletti and Germany being guided by Nagelsmann this tournament; but also how much more Gegenpressing-like the matches have been so far). I'm a bit more sympathetic to the Southgate-as-Cultural-Reinvention thing given how disjointed England were when I was younger (2018 was eerily like Euro96 in terms of seeing people genuinely enthused by an England Team at a tournament for the first time in ages), but I've always considered him overrated when it comes to in-game thinking against the kind of teams England will have to compete against if they get near the business end of the tournament. I suspect this will play out as before.
damn, so manyso called analyst are really piling on foden not playing well but if you watch james alcott livestream/video on it, it show that Foden actually di not play bad and was making the right passes and right runs but his teammates could not translate those passes and runs to attack and mostly just recycled the ball to keep possession.
Southgate in the Mancini quality conversation? Absolutely not lol. Mancini actually won things at the club and international level. Southgate has achieved multiple relegations and zero titles (at senior level).
For me the telling comparison not being made is with Deschamps. If they really want to hide behind the "International Football is different" gambit, then it's telling that Southgate's CV looks really poor in comparison with Deschamps - especially given that England and France probably have the best crop of players right now.
@@christopherdollins5566no, Deschamps has the better team. His defenders are solid, did you watch them yesterday vs Austria? England would’ve conceded. France are clear of England.
@@JamesCM86 I did. But my point is actually that France are probably the nearest to England in terms of quality of player position-for-position, and the disparity between what an international squad being led by an excellent manager and one being led by a very decent man but lacking manager is quite telling. And France, I would argue, are a better team precisely because of Deschamps' leadership (the other reason for the comparison is because he's revamped France in a similar way to Southgate with England - a lot of the praise for Southgate is based on the Culture etc not just on-pitch stuff). Point being, it's highly likely that France have flourished *because* of Deschamps, whereas to me England have succeeded *in spite* of Southgate.
It is quite hilarious to see England fans bemoaning the teams performance when they won in probably the most challenging match in their group, Was it commanding? Not exactly, but it doesn't need to be. If they had lost the goal later and been punished, then yeah there's a case to have a go at Southgate. If the don't beat Denmark or end up making the same mistake as against Italy in 2020 in a knockout game, then it's right to be annoyed - it would likely be the end of Southgate as England manager anyway. As an interested outside observer, England are more falling into a trap of wanting to play all their best players at once, even when there isn't space in the team. Foden works best as a ten, or on the right, but has Bellingham and Saka ahead in both positions. So he gets played on the left where he's less effective and where England don't have a proper left back to support him. Either use him as an alternate for Bellingham/Saka (which bumps Palmer, Bowen, Eze further down the order) or go to a 4-3-3 with Foden and Bellingham as free 8s. The latter option is more attacking and puts a lot of pressure on Rice at the DM position Anyways, I'd either start the Denmark game with Pickford, Walker, Stones, Guehi, Trippier, Rice, Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Gordon, Kane (4-3-3) OR Pickford, Walker, Stones, Guehi, Trippier, Rice, Gallagher/Wharton, Saka, Bellingham, Gordon, Kane (4-2-3-1) - because you need the outlet on the left wing and if Southgate wants to keep the double pivot, then one from Foden/Saka/Bellingham needs to start on the bench. The fact that Gordon is the only proper left winger does make cutting Grealish look a bit daft...
Foden is perfectly fine on the left, he's played there a lot for City and been affective, even this season he's got a reasonable proportion of his goals from this starting position, it's really about how he fits in the rest of the team there and the overall shape etc. as I've said elsewhere, I'd go 3-4-3, Pickford; Guehi, Stones, Walker; Gordon, Rice, Bellingham, TAA; Foden, Kane, Saka. see my other post for rationale.
@matthewdobson100 oh sure,.Foden can play on the left, but its the fact he's better on the inside COMBINED with England's lack of a proper left back (City have Gvardiol, Ake & Gomez plus more fluidity in general) that's the issue. If Shaw was fit, it would be better. Your 3-4-3 looks fun though. I can see how that would work.
English players are leaders in the Premier League. But no English coaches have won the Premier League in the last 30 years. Southgate isn't good enough to manage the top 25 teams in England and you're just making excuses.
if you had a half decent coach you could play the box midfield like city does and have a RB come into midfield like I dont know maybe trent? then you can have foden and bellingham as two 10s? pretty fucking simple really lol southgate has been to plenty of city games.

This is so dramatic, they were not abysmal 😂😂😂
@@JamesCM86 It's not dramatic at all to say that by their standards that was an abysmal display and if they play like that against any of the top 10 teams in the tournament they won't make it to the quarters. Which would be a joke given the talent in the squad.
Given normal England performances I don’t see how anyone wasn’t just whelmed

All praise, zero criticism. It's as if these 2 are employed by the FA. With the quality of the squad England have, Southgate is massively underperforming
Think most of the players massively underperformed too. I dont understand why they never come in for criticism and its just Southgate that gets slated.
@@dannyduggan4324 when most of the players underperform it usually points towards poor coaching

Southgate gets zero credit when we navigate the tournaments and managed the Germany game well (just cries of Germany arent very good any more).
The France game we had more chances and more possession, we were setup well.
I wouldn't want him managing my club team, though given the severe lack of alternatives and what he has actually achieved after an horrific 2008-2018 spell for the national side, I do feel he is overhated.
these so called 'professional sports writers' best see the bloody obvious, that we needed Gordons pace, width, drive, and threat on the left
not a single comment relating to the tactical disaster class Southgate put on vs Serbia; nothing about negative game style, lack of ability to control the ball or territory, or advise on how he could of done this with his formation and subs. What do these people get paid for? Sycophancy to the FA?

In the 11 tournaments before Southgate, we won 2 games.
If we fail to build from here, then its an issue, though 3 points and a clean sheet are the main things. Hopefully we see an improvement v Denmark.
Southgate is attempting to fit square pegs into round holes. He needs to adjust the tactics to the players he has and not the other way around.
Golden generation all over again
@mrsmokingskittles148 minus the team tribalism. I genuinely think the hatred shared between Chelsea, Arsenal, United and Liverpool bled into that England squad.
What system best suit this team without exposing their weaknesses?
@@prateshramjohnnonsense. It’s all tactics and a lack of player diversity among certain positions. The players all get along great.
Will eagerly wait for Southgate to be announced as Divided's manager for 2025 season.
to say Foden needs to be more like Jude and dominate (or whatever Fabregas quote was) is so reductive, not everyone can dominate, it's a team game and you need to get the most out of as many players as possible to win tournaments. comparing Foden and Bellingham just leans into the notion that it's about indviduals and not the team.

With the current group phase, overhyped England may still get past sides with such squares-in-circles kind of line up
Depending on where they finish and end up playing in the Round of 16
(runners-up Grp C to face potentially Germany; winner Grp C to face 3rd place side from D/E/F which freak results could well see Belgium, Portugal, France into the hat), they will get found out big time.
My favorite England game was against Portugal in 2000 amazing game
The comments are so toxic 😂 not really necessary. TH-cam is quickly becoming like Twitter or Tiktok.

The most overrated team in football history, whether it's the "Golden Generation" or the "Current Generation."
Southgate has England play some of the worst football
After that performance how can Jack say England could be a team like Portugal 2016. This England arent even 2018 England vintage, there is no discernable plan or working formation this time and Southgate worries me that he doesnt know his best team yet. He shouldnt be playing different teams or formations in every game and he definitely should have found a starting partner for Rice that isnt an experimental TAA.
These guys just talk in clichés and just sound like a load of poshy journalist types
It's not just Foden who dropped outside of Guardiola's system, Rodri was mediocre for Spain.
Underwhelming?? Are you kidding me - we were pants (AGAIN)
Are you 3 joking when you say a benchmark for the coach of a national team is
Togetherness
Bonding etc
You have lost the plot I am out
Aren't coaches suppose to be setting benchmark by virtue of results and trophies???

With the players we have the in game management and selections are too defensive. Southgate is a championship manager

The Schadenfreude of watching England every tournament is also good to watch
Absolutely. England are miles away from the top European teams
At this point, anyone expecting anything less than pragmatic, park the bus football from waistcoat is simply in denial.
The latter option is more attacking and puts a lot of pressure on Rice at the DM position
Anyways, I'd either start the Denmark game with Pickford, Walker, Stones, Guehi, Trippier, Rice, Bellingham, Foden, Saka, Gordon, Kane (4-3-3) OR Pickford, Walker, Stones, Guehi, Trippier, Rice, Gallagher/Wharton, Saka, Bellingham, Gordon, Kane (4-2-3-1) - because you need the outlet on the left wing and if Southgate wants to keep the double pivot, then one from Foden/Saka/Bellingham needs to start on the bench.
The first 25 minutes were still slow, lethargic, and unimaginative. Slow, foot on ball, and lots of pointing. It was horrible to watch.
42 minutes shorter answer: absolutely!
Arguments of entitlement and arrogance can ALWAYS be applied to England.
Ask the rest of the world.
Goin home in group stages will be a nice break while it lasts…
