    I think the "water chestnuts" were probably Chinese yam. Some people are saying daikon, but that tends to get soft when cooked. Chinese yam gets soft eventually but the texture if you cook it briefly is like you said, partway between water chestnut and potato texture. The flavor is very subtly sweet but mostly it takes on flavors if it's boiled in something. I love it!

    Interesting! Regarding your remarks about not consuming the oil: during the two years I spent in China, I ate hot pot often. But when I was in Chengdu and in Chongqing, I had hot pot that had a pure oil soup base. At the restaurants, they brought out these orange bricks which I quickly realized were cold rendered fat infused with seasoning. They melted in the pots and THAT WAS THE SOUP BASE. Wish we could get that here in the states. It was so good.

      Wow! I'm sorry that happened to you. I really appreciate your comments though. I won't be using this service. They have a new app for doctors who offer virtual check-ups to patients. Sometimes doctors misdiagnose patients when they get a physical or run test, at the physicians office. I can't imagine how challenging it will be doing this over an app. I don't think apps and deliveries will take over the world like many people predicted. It's just not practical. We will always have to sacrifice something just to live, and even more to live comfortably. Sure, you can stay home and have your food delivered. But the quality of the food will be subpar, you won't know what it's composed of, and the waste produced is even greater. I prefer brick and motar for sure.

    Emmy! I recently had a friend on Facebook post that she eats American cheese melted on apple pie and I thought that was super strange. Not sure how this video idea would work out as an end result, but I’d be curious your thoughts on that flavor combo. And with that, it would be very interesting to hear the response from your audience like their strange food combos they do or have grown up on. I can’t think of anything on my end of things. But that apple pie and American cheese has been on my mind since I saw it earlier this week and it seems like something you would try or give a decent review of haha. :)

    • @MrDiscopunkk
      @MrDiscopunkk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      People have been doing that for years in some places. I heard that it might have been inspired by the British. Isn't it fascinating how food has its own culture?

    • @mchavarria91
      @mchavarria91 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      MrDiscopunkk It really is! It’s probably not as strange as I initially found it to be. But it’s amazing how everyone grows up on different food combinations and maybe where things stem from. And like I said, it’s probably not strange, but it seemed like an interesting series Emmy would to a fantastic job with that also includes her audience. Not that she doesn’t already. She’s very inclusive of her audience. But just her reach would be able to explore all over the country and of course world. :D

    • @MrDiscopunkk
      @MrDiscopunkk 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@TraceUK I never said it was. I said it *might have been inspired by the British* because I've read that in the 17th or 18th century British people would pour like a custard sauce or similar dairy based product on their pie. According to some theories that evolved into cheddar (then American cheese) being used when they came here.
      Also it *is* similar to the Wensleydale Apple Pie that those in Yorkshire seem to be fond of. Doesn't the saying go, "An apple pie without the cheese is like a kiss without the squeeze"?

    This hotpot was awful. It was disgusting. You have to have the hunger and desperation of a lone wolf during zombie apocalypse to even eat two bites of this. The smell lingered like Jason from Friday the 13th. I can't say enough bad things about this product.

    Do you ever use a hot air fryer ?
    I got one a fee months ago.
    I love naked fried chicken wings, 28 minutes total turning once.
    I very very lightly spray olive oil so I get the crisp but not oil or grease.
    I noticed you end up with about 1/3 cup of grease out of 8 full wings.

    Just checked the prices on these instant hot pot meals on Amazon and the run from $35.00 to $63.00 FOR ONE! I prefer to go to my local Chinese restaurant and pay only half that amount for fresh hot pots.

    I don't recommend people who are not familiar with Asian food to buy this. A customer returned this and say it smells funny. But that's just the smell of bamboo shoots...
    So please don't bother buying something you're not gona like and waste them. Btw the company claims the plastic is PP5 and heat safe. And that the heat conducts through water.
    So the heat source does not come in direct contact to the food container (the upper level).

    Those are potato slices, not water chestnuts. The Chinese like their potatoes sliced or sometimes julienned ... When I lived in China, they commonly stir-fry them but also use them in hot-pots or in 麻辣香锅。

    I can't help but focus on how wasteful these types of products are :/ None of that plastic, aside from the orange box itself, is recyclable.

    Its so gross when any meal that's savory has all spice, such as cinnamon an nutmeg. Awful tasting. Its to confusing on the pallet. U must have a very tolerable taste. Its hard to tell what u eat if its something alot of us can handle cuz u like alot more things than normal. 🤔🤔🤗

    It would kinda defeat the point, but you can just dump the contents into a bowl in a microwave or on a stove and avoid the heating plastic issue altogether. It sounds delicious, though! I wish I can have it here

    A great thing you can do is pick up some thin sliced deli roast beef that Is made rare. Then put that into the hot pot. It really absorbs the broth taste with the fresher meat and soft texture
