Mike, you are so funny. Here in Singapore, we are stuck home in a month long “Circuit Breaker” period and watching TH-cam to pass our time. I completely empathise with you...once in Thailand I ordered a larb moo as 'Thai Spicy'...they looked at me askance and asked if I was sure, I said yes. That turned out to be my SINGLE MOST PAINFUL EXPERIENCE OF MY LIFE. Cudos to telling us all your story, so expectations of any future challenge takers are tempered!

Oh my word! I’m so glad you’re ok from that experience! That pepper can do that to people. I’ve seen it happen to a guy, he ate just the pepper alone, drank milk and ate ice cream and he was lactose intolerant! He threw up almost immediately. Then when he went home he called the ambulance and all they could give him was a IV for dehydration. You’re brave tho 😂
Person 1 - "I drank magma from a volcano once."

I just watched the Curry Lane challenge video and it started with the Best. Intro. Ever. "Hey guys, I'm about to do something really stupid." lol! That location was actually in the next town over from me in Montclair, NJ. Now that I know it's there, and that you were there, I will definitely go once all this quarantine stuff is over. That HaiDiLao Instant Hot Pot is soooo good! I got it as a prize in a raffle and it got me into buying HaiDiLao Hot Pot stuff! They actually sell the soup bases in Asian supermarkets and I always make sure to get a MaLa base when we are having Hot Pot at home!

Brick Lane is a famous Street in East London, an area which has the highest population of Bengali people in the world outside of Bangladesh and India. Brick Lane has a lot of curry houses and the restaurant in NYC is named after that street. The chilli which you mention in Bengali is called the Naga chilli. My gosh, one little piece of it in your mouth could send you to lala land, and you had a whole curry full of it! U did well. Our parents have it for fun though!! When you going Bangladesh Mikey? Its so great watching your quarantine episodes, i dont know that you that good storry teller haahahaaa, i just cant stop myself laughing that spicest story and also Popeyes family servings from the previous video. Well i havnt watched your videos for awhile but these once again bring you back to mylife. Really like your reminiscent stories, also self advices ( meditation, staying away from social media in this chaos..) and your humour.
Been following your channel for a while. Loved all of the videos but today is the first I really LOL 😆
I never liked spicy but I started eating more and developing a tolerance after watching your videos. A while ago I bought the same spicy hot pot to try it out and that way just waaaay too spicy for me. Didn't end up finishing it even halfway, but the numbing feeling was interesting and it made everything salty, even the milk that I tried to use to douse the spiciness. I can only handle siracha level spiciness right now but I salute you for being able to tolerate that much spiciness.
Only time I ever thought I was going to die was 30 mins after eating a Carolina reaper. I just kept throwing up for over 30 minutes

Probably not that bad like if they made it for here. They still use MSG in Asia and it has way less sodium in it than regular salt does.
I feel you on that spicy curry story haha I too enjoy trying the spiciest foods/sauces, but this one instance while at Howlin Rays in LA had me take a break from spicy foods for a while. Short story, ordered the spiciest flavor they have, and I had never felt stomach pain like that before. It was already difficult to eat, but the pain that followed it was the killer. I took my shirt off, threw up as much as I could, and even tried to lay down on an ice pack stomach first

I ordered one of those from Amazon. I have never had a REAL hot pot before but, it gave me an idea of what hot pot is like
Kinda reminds me of that one time when my ex husband and I went to a restaurant in Copenhagen that had hotpot, because we were missing it from China. Unlike China though, that restaurant didn’t have the various choices of broth (I went with chicken broth in China as I don’t like spicy and wanted a very neutral broth that didn’t hide the taste of the stuff I put in) and the broth in Copenhagen lived up to the name hot pot because the broth was what I could imagine would be Mikey approved! So there we were, my ex husband and I, with a hotpot that lived up to the name, and we had one bottle of water each. My ex husband liked spicy foods to a certain extent (despite being from Suzhou which really isn’t a spicy town) but he was sweating profusely while we were eating, and he finished his bottle of water fast. Then there was me, the Swedish girl who hates spicy foods, and I wasn’t sweating at all and didn’t drink my water until I had finished eating 😂 Another funny one was when an auntie had been to Hainan on vacation and brought some yellow chili paste back for my former father-in-law (and he’s a spice head) and he and my ex husband tried some of the chili paste and both sweated a lot. Then I tried a tiny bit to see what the fuzz was about and not one drop of sweat, and I just had two dumbfounded Chinese men looking at me like I was some kind of alien because I had no reaction to that chili other than a “yeah, that’s spicy, can’t say I like it” so seems I can handle some spice, I just really don’t like it because I like to taste the food and not just a lot of heat, plus my IBS doesn’t like a lot of chili so it’s always a gamble to eat anything more spicy than say the mildest taco seasoning and mildest salsa you can buy in the supermarket, or a mild Korma. Needless to say, I stay away from anything with the word “hot” or Sichuan when I eat Asian foods, I’d rather not be in fetal position with stomach pain... Think I had a bit of heartburn after the hotpot in Copenhagen, but was lucky that time that it wasn’t worse
Haidilao does have meat versions! I have them at home but haven’t had a chance to try them yet. After watching this I’m looking forward to it!

Yeah, I remember this story.
I loved Adam when his show was first in but then I realized it was all over dramatic for the TV audience and he really wasn't nearly on the same level the competitive eaters are now.
Not exactly the same challenge. Back when Adam took it they were still using ghost peppers, probably what Mike talked about at the beginning of the story where he said he ordered that dish before and it wasn't too bad. The time Mikey took the challenge, they switched to Carolina Reapers.
Yeah, didn't he relate this story once (maybe on the other channel?) when he and some others were doing a noodle tasting in his house or the company house? Crap, I blanked her name, but the lady from Peru? was his camera person at that time? She was the one who helped film him eating brunch at the 711 in Taiwan.

I thought the most spicy food you ever had was some small joint in Thailand or Malaysia that had sinks lining one wall for patrons to vomit into because the curry or ramen was so punishingly hot.
