As someone who has worked for many years in the restaurant business this fascinates me. Such efficiency! And the seating/dining arrangements have all the advantages of counter-type seating without forcing the patron into possibly unwanted intimacy with their fellow ramen-slurpers......

Fortunately for me they let me go back to Okinawa and march up and down sandy mountains all day until I walked it off. Of course then came the Philippines and more great food.....

I went to an Ichiran in Kyoto this summer and was so annoyed by the lack of space to put my stuff and the lack of napkins. As I was leaving, I turned around and saw those boxes and the hooks and felt like an idiot. 🤦🏻♀️ In Japan, a lot of the places that have napkins use thin tissue.
It's for when you need to blow your nose from the spice! You can put as much spice in there as you want and what's cool is you just lean back and grab one, then get back to eating! Everyone complains of the small space, but they forget Japan is literally an island that can't build out, only up. So they have to get creative with their small spaces. Anyone that complains about small space (lookin at you m00tw00t) should try going through Golden Gai! Now THAT is small!
TheRelic yes but when you have a runny nose from the spice, as long as you are silent it is fine. Public more or less is out in the street. It’s also rude to drink in public while walking, standing to the side is okay. So long as you take polite precautions for things it’s not seen as rude.
I love that you are respectful of others privacy and blur the faces of the strangers passing by. So many other TH-camrs don’t do that, and some even intentionally zoom in on people without their consent. Thank you for being respectful of others ☺️

I was lucky to enough to go to Japan back in ‘16 for a high school trip. I am now just realizing that the first ramen I ever had was here… No wonder why nothing else compares!!

I went to ichiran in New York and it definitely is a different more personal experience! It was super new to me after always expecting a server and what not and duh it’s DELICIOUS.
You made it like this is really a moment of being thankful as a bowl of delicious ramen was being served in such a unique and respectful manner. That kind of single booth is like only you and the ramen bowl alone. "ENJOY".

Back in the 1960s when I lived and worked in Japan, Loved the fake food displayed in the restaurant's windows. Would order my food by copying the Japanese characters on paper and giving it to the Waiter. Think that 97% of the time, I would get what I wanted!!! Loved the people and the country!!!

I watched the episode of Only In Japan on TH-cam, about this kind of ramen where the broth is BLUE! As in Blue Hawaiian flavoring in your shaved ice or no alcoholic drinks, but it's not really Blue Hawaiian! It makes the overall ramen bowl look like you're looking at a 3D map that's edible!
Where I live we have a place called “Akedo Showten” and it’s right by mine and my best friends house. Sometimes if she stays late for school we go together and it’s just such a treasured and sacred time for us. So yummy. The egg is the best part of course.

I went to the Brooklyn location just today, I am by NO means a ramen connoisseur, I’ve had ramen from several chain establishments but Ichiran changed my life for the BEST; 11/10 would eat again. Intimate atmosphere, impeccable food. Got an extra soft boiled egg and they were like a delicious warm hug to compliment t the broth. As we were watching my son told.me he reacts to my.cooking the way you react to the food you enjoy when you first try it, and gave me a big ole thumbs up🥰 coming from an autistic kiddo, I think thats a raging success. You help him cultivate a curiosity to try new things, and after about 4 years of watching, he has tried some crazy things. Like tonight after watching your Wasabi mayo Ramen taste test, he wanted to try some Wasabi which I just so happened to have on hand. He would.never have tried it if he hadn't seen you enjoy and explain the flavor and become curious enough to expand his palate. You do wonders, Emmy, keep being a fantastic role model for expanding horizons by stepping into new and strange territories unabashedly!

Actually Ichiran is in New York City directly in Time Square. I visited it when I took a trip to NY, definitely worth going, it's delicious. I recommend it if you ever get the chance to go.
I visited that location in October 2019, even on a Sunday night, you can easily be waiting 30 minutes for a booth but it is always worth the wait. Watashi wa Ichiran Ramen ga suki desu

In Korea it is usually a roll of toilet paper on the table, classy places have facial tissue boxes on the table.

I went to the Brooklyn location just today, I am by NO means a ramen connoisseur, I’ve had ramen from several chain establishments but Ichiran changed my life for the BEST; 11/10 would eat again. Intimate atmosphere, impeccable food. Got an extra soft boiled egg and they were like a delicious warm hug to compliment t the broth. Thank you for introducing this to me in the first place Emmy!! xoxo
I was there in June. Had a similar dish. Insanely good ramen at that spot. Cant wait to get back to Japan next year. Already planned abouit 30 places to visit :D Thanks for these videos. Makes me miss Japan SOOO much! :D
Hopefully you tried other ramen locations too, many are much better than Ichiran.
@@whatever1661 And many are alot worse :) Pros and cons with everyone but Ichiran is a solid choice for people new to Japan!
@@originelltnamn it's an solid choice, i agree with you on that. I also don't want to to act like a "ramen-elitilist" it feels just a little weird if you know these bloggers hyping them up to the extrem because they have a cooperation.
@@whatever1661 I dont mind this "hype" because its a solid choice. If it was any of the other super-generic tourist traps I wouldnt thumb it up. But yeah. I agree. There are alot of better places (but also alot of worse ;D)
I've heard of this restaurant before, and every time I watch a video of their Ramen, I'm always fascinated by how you order at the entrance and then find your seat. It's like playing a game and then eating your prize.

As we were watching my son told.me he reacts to my.cooking the way you react to the food you enjoy when you first try it, and gave me a big ole thumbs up🥰 coming from an autistic kiddo, I think thats a raging success. You help him cultivate a curiosity to try new things, and after about 4 years of watching, he has tried some crazy things. Like tonight after watching your Wasabi mayo Ramen taste test, he wanted to try some Wasabi which I just so happened to have on hand. He would.never have tried it if he hadn't seen you enjoy and explain the flavor and become curious enough to expand his palate. You do wonders, Emmy, keep being a fantastic role model for expanding horizons by stepping into new and strange territories unabashedly!

Actually Ichiran is in New York City directly in Time Square. I visited it when I took a trip to NY, definitely worth going, it's delicious. I recommend it if you ever get the chance to go.
