Thank you for reacting to Modest Mouse; they are absolutely fantastic live. Isaac is an amazing lyricist and musician. One of the greatest and most underappreciated bands that got their start in the 90's. For sing-songy versions of Modest Mouse songs, Mark Kozelek (Red House Painters, Sun Kill Moon, Desertshore) recorded an album, Tiny Cities, of Modest Mouse songs which are rearranged for an acoustic guitar and for Mark's beautiful singing voice.
Definition of Melancholy. While the lyrics SEEM uplifting, it's actually about a person in a deep depression who has stopped caring about anything at all.
I've loved your channel for a while and watching you react to rock vocalists and pick about what's great about their unconventional technique, and I am so surprised not only to see you react to Modest Mouse but also find out you enjoy and know a lot about them as well! Always my favorite band, hope you do them again some day. Especially one of their older dynamic songs with varied vocal stylings, like Teeth Like God's Shoeshine or Beachside property.
The Pacific Northwest can be a very dark and gloomy place throughout the fall and winter. Making it through to a brighter day and just finding a river to float on is how I've escaped dark places. Imperfections are perfect
I can't even tell you how much I needed this song to come on my path today. This song was playing on the radio (had just come out) when i was in my car after my friends had told me our other friend had passed away. To be honest i don't visit this channel as much as I want to and i had to click on 'subscriptions' (something i never do) and saw this vid had just been uploaded today :') I'll take this as a sign that not only will I survive everything I'm going through more or less in tact, but that maybe I should seriously start learning the craft of singing. Also, my friend who passed was a great singer and performed sets at cafes when we were just out of highchool. I'd love to have the skill too one day and hopefully honor her
I haven't heard that song in ages and it was great to revisit it. I could definitely stand to hear that message more often. I was pleasantly surprised to get an indirect shoutout as the patron who doesn't like walls of sound lol. I think it's sort of the audio equivalent of people who like to separate all of the elements of a meal, as opposed to mixing them all together. I've never had a particular preference in that sense with food, but I definitely prefer to be able to hear and analyze each element of a song's mix distinctly.
Whoa, Craig Kilborn, there's a throwback! 😂 Nostalgic tune for me, as well. If you want a song that transitions dramatically between instruments and wall of sound, check out the Steven Wilson song "Pariah."
Playing and singing this song live, possibly more than any other, is almost impossible to try and get the same as the recorded studio version. Each version that Modest Mouse play live is totally different from any other in many, many ways. And I love that about them ❤
I think it goes back to being a baby - a mother can tell when the infant is really in distress, and when the infant is just looking for attention. A fake cry. Sometimes people sing in a fake way too.. Issac has never written a love song. I have searched for one - I think its about not falling into a cliche, but its also about making sure people know he is making music for them and for him, not for some ex girlfriend. ..... A true expression is a true expression, it does not matter if it is about Grey Hound buses or about Bukowski or about anything... we can still appreciate the truthfulness.
He has a studder, back in the day it was very noticeable. It was when I got back from Iraq, this was a comforting song for Me an some friends for the bleep we went through.
I love going down the nostalgic rabbit holes there's nothing like a nostalgic High.. and I would say there's some singing not just shouting especially when you hit some of them high squeals😅
The first time I heard this song I loved it and knew it was going to be a hit! I love how, what sounds like mistakes in the melody reinforcing the songs meaning. Make a mistake "oh well, just keep playing everything is going to be ok."😄😄😄
Vocal perfection is boring. Anyone who has a double lisp and is the lead singer of a band has my respect. He both has the th lisp. And the R lisp at times. And his vocals while not perfect tell a story in its imperfection. Sometimes people get lost in the technical side of singing and forget its actual intent. Good reaction!
I don’t think that not giving credit to yourself isn’t the same as not being kind to yourself. Hence, modest mouse. I can relate. Ambitious ppl don’t want to put a ceiling on themselves like they’ve done enough. And not everyone likes to receive praise from just anyone. They want to make sure the praise they received is earned as well as it coming from someone meaningful and not just a passer-byer.
Modest mouse really doesn’t have a bad song…. They get into some super dark issues…. This is the more pop type of song they have. I have spent a fair amount of times following musicians and tours around in my younger years. These guys recorded a lot in the town I went to college at. They played a bunch around there. They can party with the best of them as well. Great bunch of guys.
Great song. Creed of youth...float on is a wonderful way to live. Enjoy what you create. The outside will come from behind and not necessarily be kind. Just saying...and I'm an intrinsic optimist. 😊
I hate how sometime in this song it doesn't even sound like he's saying words. Although it's still one of my all time favorite songs, even though I HATE it live

Congrats Beth!!!
Modest Mouse is imperfect music for imperfect people. Nobody is polished, which makes Modest Mouse resonate with so many of us.
One of the best bands ever.
In a studio.
I've seen them twice live. Loved it because it was MM, but their albums are better than their live spots.
This has been on my playlists since it's video was on MTV. Definitely the right song at the right time.
Still listen to him every day

plus his natural lisp gives him so much character and pathos. it makes me feel like i have access to him through that 'vulnerability'.

We are definitely going into that time of year time for Vitamin D and Magnesium😂
washington was alot like maine but with less sunlight.

This is the perfect bar song. I love this song it hits you hard and everyone can relate to this song

Revisiting this song after many years. Still beautiful.
Young lady, I’m subscribing to you because you are authentic and without grift. Thank you!
On August 1st, NBC will air Gabriel Henrique's audition on America's Got Talent! I hope you react to him ❤ He is amazing!!!

It’s imperfections that can make things perfect

Little Motel is a love song, dude...

@@SoSo-li6dn No, it was written for his girlfriend after they had an argument
The lead singer had a horrible childhood. His parents just up and left him alone in the house... just took off and left him alone.
Would you like to fact check yourself? There’s nothing about him going into foster care.
He has a studder, back in the day it was very noticeable. It was when I got back from Iraq, this was a comforting song for Me an some friends for the bleep we went through.
You almost could say he floated on...
It doesnt even matter if he grew up rough. He's an adult, and making some nice music.

Oh goodness!!!! Memories loaded :D
I wasn't expecting Modest Mouse! Dashboard is another favourite of mine ♥
Probably their best song & quite a classic...!
Another great review. Love your open mindedness. Much love
The AGT audition of the outstanding singer Gabriel Henrique is coming on August 1st! I would love to see your reaction!!!
The song doesn't get enough credit or reacted to enough so I'm happy you did
I recommend the album version.
Have loved this song and band a long time. Excellent song choice.
Lol, Craig Kilborn. That's someone I haven't seen in a while. This was pre-Stewart Daily Show.
Going to see them live for the second time August 28th
I had already left for the bluegrass underground by the time they came out. You make me appreciate them.
There was a bunch of bluegrass covers by like like iron horse something.
One of my favorite pick up songs , and you are the cutest

More Modest. Band doesn't get enough attention.
I love it... You have to feel it in order to not notice its not perfect
Check out Blame it on the Tetons Beth. One of my favorite by MM. Not shouty or raspy at all. I've loved this band for many years.

I wiuld love to see some older Modest Mouse reactions. Cowboy Dan, polar opposites, teeth like gods shoeshine are some of my older MM songs
yes, this song is very positive and just fun...but still sounds "cool" without being "kiddish" / "lame"
Listening to this song I can't help thinking of the U2 song, "New Years Day"...

Olá, nosso querido Gabriel Henrique estará se apresentando no American Got Talent no dia 01/08 às 21h. Vamos apoiar nosso prodígio!!!
From Seattle? 😂

This sounds very different live.
How about reacting to WEYES BLOOD Beth? You will like!
Do you know what would be interesting: Analyse a singing ventriloquist, like: Darci Lynne Farmer or Terry Fator. PLEASE
I hate how sometime in this song it doesn't even sound like he's saying words. Although it's still one of my all time favorite songs, even though I HATE it live
Great band. Hope he collars with marr again. Some ingredients just go together
I would love to see you react to EVE 6!
🆗 bien Beth 👏👏🍀🍀
Sooo many better songs from this band. Their first 5 or 6 albums were so good.
Reaja a Gabriel Henrique.
Basically my favorite band, there are definitely better songs to listen to for Isaac's vocals lol
Hey miss can you give me feedback on my voice plzz??
Love this song, but this has to be one of the worst live performances I have seen. What a letdown.
Yeah. I was shocked at how stoned and out of it everyone seems.
Everything sounds horrible.
Weird! This is exactly what I expected a live modest mouse performance to sound like. What made it different from your expectations?
It’s a great song but it’s probably the one that sounds the least like them.
The guitar on this performance sounds terrible
"Modest Mouse? More like a mediocre Green Day!"
Chris Rock
You should put your hits up on here
This performance is horrible. Sounds nothing like the album.
The feeling will always be worth more, you can know about music, but not know how to listen to it.
