In this clip from the O'Reilly Auto Parts Pit Reporters, championship crew chief Jeff Hammond and Kim Coon react to Buescher's impressive win and why the last-lap battle with SVG was just hard racing and didn't cross the line when it comes to aggressive driving.
Buescher just barely missed the playoffs after nearly winning multiple races in the regular season. Kim and Jeff agree that Buescher's composure showed why he and the No. 17 RFK Racing team could be a force next season. As a newcomer and now obsessed NASCAR fan from Australia, following the career of SVG… I thought over the weekend that Connor Zilisch, Ross Chastain and Chris Buescher were just brilliant to watch at Watkins Glen.. We know SVG is always going to be the man to beat on road and street courses, whether in Xfinity or Cup.. So those guys who have the talent to compete with and beat Shane to make it either competitive, or completely dominate is for a race car fan, very exciting to watch… I believe Shane brings a new level to the whole NASCAR brand and we are all excited to see it unfold..
I also believe the drivers you mentioned here were actually respectful and great to watch. No ego was reqd .. 😊

He’s never raced the car at The Glen and he still finishes 2nd(should’ve won) scary to think what he does when he’s doing a full season in a Cup car.
It’s never ‘EASY’ to win a Cup race no matter who you are. That’s what makes drivers like Larson so special. SVG will win more and learn from that mistake he made.

Im curious as to what is the criteria for getting to playoffs( i believe you need a win in regular season but thats all i know, think i know lol) and/or winning the championship? Simple terms please?.

SVG will maybe Win one or two road course races a year in Cup, but he will NEVER Win a Cup Championship.
Could say the same for 80% of the field.. except they won't win road courses either.
Have you looked at his career? Maybe just look at his past accomplishments across Rally Quads open wheeler stockcars
@ikomidico yes I have! But he will need to win on an Oval-Track to win a championship. Plus he's never raced at the Cup Level before, against 39 other drivers. You supercar fans can fantasise all you want, facts are facts!
