Holly Cain on 'NASCAR Mavericks,' Joey Logano haters & 2025 Daytona 500
Holly Cain from the NASCAR Wire Service joins PRN's Fast Talk to discuss her new book, "NASCAR Mavericks" and to recap the 2024 NASCAR Cup Serie season!
We kick off this special interview by asking her which driver's stock rose the most in 2024. Holly's answer might surprise you -- Not only because this driver made the Championship 4, but because he's already won some of NASCAR's biggest races!
Holly Cain also explains why she's bullish on Chase Briscoe's future with Joe Gibbs Racing. She also believes the ongoing charter lawsuit won't impact the performance of either 23XI Racing or Front Row Motorsports in the Daytona 500. #NASCAR

Thanks and congrats on a super career doug
Flash in the pan.
what's next? hopefully retirement
How many times did crazies wreck him out?
What happens to the other two characters?? Who gets them??
That's what I want to know. NASCAR has put the sale on hold, so Haas still owns them. I assume they would sell them to someone else, but who wants them? Who could throw an extra car together on short notice to run all year?
Jordan will get the sponsorships. Everything he touches turns to gold.
Oh Mr billionaire Jordon will be funding this
Alan Gustafson must go
Someone showed who would have won the championship in the old points format. It was Christopher Bell over Chase Elliot by only 5 points. I say he had a pretty good year and was the most consistent throughout the year. He would have been really close to point his way into the champ 4 race if it wasn't for the bad luck at Vegas.
Oh is it Christmas time already
The main difference between Elliott & Bowman is that… yes they’ve won one race since 2023, but in between that time, there was a time where Alex Bowman led the points in 2023 & so did Chase Elliott in 2024. With Elliott, he’s the most conservative driver & easily takes care of his stuff & has suddenly gone from the hot shot he started out to be to now a steady veteran at 29 years old. And by “steady veteran” I mean performing a lot like a Terry Labonte. He & Bowman are more prone to consistency and bringing the car home in one piece with a good finish while Larson & Byron are more prone to feast or famine with crashes, speeds, and wins while taking tons of risk you really don’t see a lot from the 9 & the 48. Chase Elliott had a great year, either way, but I expected a lot of wins from the 9 especially after what happened last year when they were winless. However, the fact they missed the playoffs in 2023, they came back and cleaned up that mistake in 2024, now the goal next year is more wins like crown Jewel races and road course wins along with the timing of wins in the playoffs.
9 and 48 get disrespected by Hendrick
Chase Elliott went to the round of 8 with only one win. Pretty damn good.
Below Expectations
@@JJA1987 Given the current system, it sounds like the expectation was championship or bust. Am I missing something? Sponsor obligations?
Chase Elliott had the best average finish in 2024 (2nd time he’s don’t that, with the first being in 2022) him having only one victory is mainly an issue because of the *unfortunate* points format NASCAR has in place. I think that so long as Chase can execute in the last part of the year, he and Alan Gustafson don’t have to change up anything
MID AT BEST SEASON - Things absolutely need to change
@ maybe less favoritism to Larson and Byron
Duh
I'm going to have to get this book. I wonder if Shawna Robinson, her all female pit crew in the 2000s, as well as Bill Venturini's all female ARCA pit crew in the 1980s.
Larson this Larson that. Seems like he didn't even show up for the championship run. Lackluster at best.
All the pearl clutching because it was Logano who won. Ryan Blaney last year as far as regular season "points" had a slightly better standing, P15 vs. P17. He didn't even win the final race and he was crowned Cup champ and it was the best day ever..Logano does it, the worst day ever. NASCAR fans are insane, imo. Regular season points don't freaking matter!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Logano Derangement Syndrome.
Logano is a driver who doesn't necessarily need the fastest car to win races!! And THAT takes some serious skills!!
Dont blame the system for joey. Blame the other teams that had an advantage from wins and regular points for their playoff points and then choking it away. Maybe reddick would have ran better at phoenix if his team wasnt preoccupied with this lawsuit that they are probably going to loose. Larson is talented but he is not very smart, infact he makes some very dumb decisions a lot. He had like 12 laps left at homestead when he made that move. He could have waited and been smarter. If he finished 2nd that race he prob would have made the final 4. The great teams seem to not be so great when the pressure is on. Thats not joey or mascara fault. Also, im not a new fan. Been a fan since 94. Dont care what people say, the racing is better now than it was back then. Either way, no matter what format im gonna watch and enjoy and not be a cry baby and nit pick every little thing like most of these mascar youtubeers do which is complain about every dam thing. Nascar fans now are exhausting 9:07
Logano is a winner on a race track he said that’s all that counts who holds the trophy
People hate on Joey for winning in this format but everyone else had an equal chance. If you’re better, go and beat him. You play by the rules you’re given. I think they don’t like it because it’s Joey. He has his fans but a lot of haters too. Comparable to Kyle Busch a few years ago. Jeff Gordon is considered one of the greatest ever and many people still hate him.
They were many teams better just look at the stats the format is broken because its made for ball and stick Sports there is a reason why literally every other Motorsport in the World uses a full year point system from imsa to f1
@ it’s not going away. I don’t really like it either but every team knows the format.
@@gregrowe1168 yeah everything knows the format that doesn't mean it's cleared of criticism
@ I think it will be different next year. In my opinion, too many quality for the chase to begin with. 8 would be a more reasonable number. You’d eliminate the win and automatically get in. Guys lower in the points that somehow luck into a win still don’t make it.
@@gregrowe1168 there is only one solution that's a full-year point system. We got to face the facts that no matter how many changes they do it's always going to be a gimmicky up championship
This is why I say could it be Harrison Burton being in that number 9 car for Jr Motorsports this is what I say everybody could it be here some Harrison Burton being in that number 9 car maybe for Junior Motorsports never known.? @padreekwebster4473
Bobby Allison should be in everyone's top 5‼️🇺🇲🏁
The best team in the NFL doesn’t always win da Superbowl brotha😮
lol 😂 there should be an asterisk by Smokes 3 championships Joey has not killed anyone on the racetrack 😂😂😂😂😮
Congratulations Joey! And Team22❤❤🎉🎉🎉 FYI Points only get you into the round of 16. It is 2024 boys, not 1994😂😂😂😂. You can’t choke in the playoffs just cause you have 1994 points lead 😂😂😂😂
No one was handed more hardship and pain in life than Bobby Allison, and he never let it show. He was tough as nails. Its so cool that Bobby and Richard Petty were fierce competitors, but the families were great friends.
KYLE PETTY SUX POINT BLANK THE END!
Sux isn't a word genius. Do you feel better about yourself. Think the problem is that you suck so to make yourself feel better you say Kyle sucks. That's called projection. Go on, tell the world how you feel about yourself.😂😂😂😂
HELL KYLE hms cheaters WILL WHINE 24/7 if they don't win & asscar will help them win they tried like hell in martinsville prove me wrong
Kyle, I had the privilege of spending some time with you, your father and Bobby and Donnie at Talladega a few years ago. You guys are class acts! Thanks for the memories.
Joey Logano will go down in NASCAR history as one of the best to ever do it.
stats say a different store
The 70's was a great time to grow up Families were closer back then.
He SHOULDN'T care what anyone thinks!! He did his job. That lady hit the nail on the head, "the underdog". That's me, always yelling for the underdog.
Yeah 😊😮 me too!!!

He doesn’t care about anyone but himself. Hay was obvious when he tried to run over NASCAR officials, women, and children after the Richmond race.
Hell yeah 3×Champ 22 now CRY on that CHEVROLET FINISH 1 AND 2!! CONGRATS JOEY AND BLANEY BOY, PROUD OF YALL. GO FORD 3× STAIGHT!!!
@KerrySikes Chevy won championship the last two years because Chevy won the most races
Joey could win again.
A watered down championship
You are correct. The format used now has created a kind of crap shoot effect while the old system was a true reward of every races finish with the lap bonuses tacked on. The old way was a much more accurate way to determine the driver that performed consistently the best.
@@stealthbomber2127people cried with the old systems too. Wtf you think they changed it for. After kenseth in 2003. After Johnson winning 5 straight people cried and it got changed a couple of years later. Now they crying again. Do you see a pattern here? Lol. You all gonna cry and whine no matter what. They all under the same format and rules. It's not watered down. Just a lot of entitled fans that think everything needs to be perfect or else. Nascar fans are the most exhausting negative people in sports. Been that way since I started watching in 94. Problem is now social media lets them be seen everywhere. Negativity sells. Just like most of these Nascar TH-camrs. All they do is friggin complain. How about your drivers and teams should do better and not get their ass kicked by the 12th or 14th seed when they had plenty of an advantage with playoff points to start each round. Larson is prob the most talented driver but he is also one of the dumbest drivers I have ever seen. Also maybe Reddick would have run better at Phoenix if his team wasn't more worried about their lawsuit that they are going to loose. 😢😢😢
@@racegrubb2152 nascar changed it because their favorite manufacturer was losing. With the non gm manufacturers out, you have no show. And with this bullshit system that's all you got is a show and not a race. To have a "champion" that misses races is asinine. It's akin to the super bowl winner not playing four games, smh.
@oktoday8323 every racing series in the world expect nascar does not use playoffs 😂😂😂 you people are a joke.
Don’t bet on the playoffs. Anything could happen with this format.
Kyle thank you Logano won .
No one is talking about the fact Denny Hamlin went AWOL from the playoffs
Ford is driving dark horse mustangs. That should say it all.
Never a more fierce competitor than Bobby Allison.
Now he's with his two sons and wife.
BUBBA SMOLETT!!! REALLY!
Bubba a champion what the heck she smoking?
with him still getting better every single season and getting Eckes crew-chief it's not that impossible (And keep in mind, that for championship you don't need to be even in top 10 best, you just need to play the system well)
The championship just doesn't mean what it once did,and thats nascars fault.
