  • This has come about due to a few of your suggesting I take a look at Viagra Boys. So, I have! Today I'm reacting and analysing their latest song Punk Rock Loser. There's a bit more going on here than meets the ear initially - some comparisons you my not expect. Tell me what you think, do you like Viagra Boys or are they just average to you?

I think Viagra Boys are one of the most exciting bands to arrive in years. Go through their back catalogue and they're clearly listening to such an array of music and have talent that's substantially more developed than a lot of their peers, however explaining to those unfamiliar why they're so good is a pretty difficult task due to them taking nothing seriously. You've nailed it here, Justin. Fantastic.

That is EXACTLY how cowboys wear their headphones... One of the most important, and often overlooked, moments in the shootout at the OK Corral came when a very long and tense standoff was broken by Doc Holliday, who shouted, "You idjit! You gots the left cup on your right ear, and the right cup on your left!" The brilliance, of course, was in that he hadn't stated which of the Cowboys he was talking to, and this gave the lawmen a moment of distraction as the Cowboys all looked at each other's headphones, allowing the lawmen to get the drop on them. Some historians debate that the Cowboys weren't very bright, and may have been further confused about whether the word "Right" was being used in the context of "which side" or in the context of opposing the word "Wrong". Either way, a bunch of them got killed.

Well done Mr.Hawkins as usual. Viagra boys bravo choice. I marvel at the range your taste and knowledge takes us. Furthermore, You have a keen knack for breaking down the salient parts of a song and mixing in just the right amount of history. Speaking of history, I would be very interested in your take on a couple of Bowie chestnuts, those being All the Young Dudes (his or the Mott version) and / or Life on Mars.. Bowie certainly had a way with some nuanced chords which make his songs stand out amongst the crowd and I would love to hear your take.
Keep up the good work my friend.

Found the Viagra boys through the songs "Sports" & "Just like you". Both brilliant tracks with some filthy bass riffs. These new tracks haven't set me alight but hopefully the band will be able to recover from the tragic loss of there guitarist. Top stuff!.
