For those who are wondering what her experience is: Sonya Belousova (born February 4, 1990) is a Russian-born composer, pianist and recording artist who resides and works in Los Angeles, California. Belousova is a winner of international composition and piano competitions.[1] Recognized as a child prodigy, at the age of 13 years Belousova was awarded with the Russian Ministry of Culture Award for her outstanding achievements in music composition.

Damn, I mean, I can play the Cantina song too, but I had to look the tabs up and learn it. She pulls it outta her ass in seconds and even adds a little "The Entertainer" like touch to it. Much Respect! We're not worthy!
I am truly impressed, if this is really on the spot and therefore legit. Playing with such great detail just from listening to the piece once, is just the most amazing skill i have ever seen! I wonder why she isn't more famous!
You know, I can barely play a song on my radio, and then there's this one, pulling all this amazing crap outta thin air. Amazing is not a big enough word to describe her skill!
We have goosebumps... this was so amazing to watch! #music PlayerPiano plays your comment suggestions on the spot: th-cam.com/video/pwJDeA8BJYg/w-d-xo.html
I tried to do that once, and it took me like an hour to figure out the melody for right hand... Do you have to be like super familiar with the piano theories and all that stuff to arrange by ear?
Sean's Piano Hmm, not necessarily, but I do think you have to have a good foundation with your major/minor chords and chord progression. It's definitely not going to be easy the first couple of times you do it, but once you start playing by ear/transcribing on the spot more it becomes as easy as reading sheet music. Having a strong relative pitch will help you immensely (this will really help with figuring out melodies--it helps your ear strength!) and also, just knowing the song you're about to transcribe beforehand can help a lot. If I'm about to transcribe a song I've heard a trillion times on the radio, I've already subconsciously learned the chord progression and the melody, and it's much easier to try and replicate on the piano. If I haven't heard it at before, it's like learning something completely out of left field and it takes a bit more time to get it right. Hope that wasn't too much info. Cheers!
It also helps if you have a natural tendency to recognize not just the pitch of each note, but how it fits with the other notes. Similar to perfect pitch, but more towards being able to hear how the notes harmonize and come together.
This reminds me of the story of the piece "miserere mei deus" that was created exclusively for use in the Sistine Chapel. The story goes that a young Mozart heard it on a trip to Rome and wrote it down from memory. His version was so close to the original that he was praised by the pope at the time. Really beautiful piece.
Look, I get it's been 2 years since this video was posted, but please do a full version of Bloody Tears! That was fantastic! I need a full version in my life.
i love the way you play the piano it feels like you're a source of life. do you think anyone can get to your level of experience? and how much do you think it needs?
love all the arrangements! Thanks again for inspiring us! I really have a bad day and I just watch all your videos and it made me better.. Thank you! You're so talented! Keep up the good work! It's not necessary for you to play it perfectly because most of us already accept your arrangements as PERFECT! :)
Oh my god, you're amazing! How do you do? Even if you'd manage to get the notes how do you remember them? I can't even play the piano but knowing me even if I could it would have taken me at least a week to get the right notes AND memorise the whole song...
She probably has perfect pitch, especially if she's a composer. This means that when she hears a note she knows EXACTLY which note it is. From then on, it's like when you're a casual singer and can remember the lyrics and melody of a song. The piano is an extended part of herself and her voice. : )
Yeah, she has amazing short term memory. From what I gather, while she listens she composes the song and transfers it to muscle memory with her hands which makes the memory last longer and more accurately.
Yeah I thought that too seeing how she "practice" with the hands while listening. One thing is sure, seeing how good she is I will definitely support her on indiegogo as soon as I can :D
No do the same thing with my hands when I'm listening to something that I am going to play on my flute. It's a great way to keep it fresh in your memory.
She is amazing. My old Guitar Teacher could do the same thing; Listen to a song once and be able to play it, no matter what it was. [Edit:] Not just the Guitar parts, but any tune you could bring to him.
Came down to the comments to say this, essentially. That track is part of the internal soundtrack to my brain and my life. Hearing that interpretation was a revelation. Thank you so, so much. I hope to hear a full version someday.
Wow. Just wow... how did you miss the Mortal Kombat theme? ;) Oh, and that was amazing :D I can't wait to see what you guys come up with for full production videos!
It is not often that I am impressed. It is not often that I am at a lack of words. Right now, I am so impressed that I am at a lack for words. Thank you. Thank you. Thank you.
Both of the recent On the Spot videos have been fantastic! A suggestion for a future episode: Faunts - M4 (Part II), the credits song from Mass Effect 1.

Alright, calm down, Doctor Mordin.
We need you back on the Normandy.
I was gonna comment the same thing. Glad someone else picked up on it.
I love Sonya attitude. "It doesn't have to be perfect" (Tom) "yes it does!" (Sonya)
Perfect maybe. But maniac with perfection in a level of pathological madness no.
All of the themes was awesome, the Cantina and Let it go were my favorites!
Damn, I mean, I can play the Cantina song too, but I had to look the tabs up and learn it. She pulls it outta her ass in seconds and even adds a little "The Entertainer" like touch to it. Much Respect! We're not worthy!

Your ear training and synthesis is fantastic! This is so impressive. Well done!
Hah, did not expect the cantina song, brilliant. Frozen arrangements still get me every time. Great stuff!
This reminds me of the story of the piece "miserere mei deus" that was created exclusively for use in the Sistine Chapel. Anja Boskovic yeah I get that, I'm just amazed by how fast she manage to memorise every single note perfectly
Yeah, she has amazing short term memory. From what I gather, while she listens she composes the song and transfers it to muscle memory with her hands which makes the memory last longer and more accurately.

Ennio Morricone - Ecstasies of Gold. non. stop. epic.
reibergraphix , the piano doesn't do a whole lot in that piece.
It's more brass & Rigacci.
She's great, she should do a duo with Lindsay Stirling! Just a thought.
+Juan Jaimes That's what I thought the second after I heard her first video.
I wonder if that's ever going to happen?
Fingers crossed. I haven't seen much new stuff from Lindsay lately :(
