Honestly I was gonna say like why the hell does he keep commenting when she is making a huge effort shit 😂 and he's just trying to be funny or mansplain how he relates to these games.
Piano skill and knowledge of music theory aside (that's a huge aside) I don't understand how she has such an incredible memory as well. Just imagine someone reads a random sentence to you. No matter how well you know the language or how sentences are structured I struggle to imagine being able to just reproduce it like that!
Sort of...but if someone reads a random sentence to you, you understand what the sentence means and how it was said enough to reproduce basically what the sentence means.
Not quite the same as a random sentence. Imagine more like a poem with a rhyming scheme. You'd memorize that much quicker. You might even learn it after one listen if it has lots of repetition and clear themes. A random sentence would be wayyyyyy harder, and a random musical phrase would be much less enjoyable (and memorable).
Who isn't? I would replace my coffee with the Skyrim theme but the when the boss pisses me off I'll shout him apart. "Ulfric Stormcloak murdered the High King. With his voice, shouted him apart"
God I really miss you guys! I always come back to this video every few weeks to hear that Halo theme. If you guys ever come back id love to see a full Halo video
These guys deserve more than a million subscribers. Instantly donated the moment I heard these songs without a second thought. True, raw talent at its finest.
Seriously, watching her play is absolutely awe inspiring. When she turns to the piano and begins to play it's like she's a completely different person. The way she flows while playing and let's the music resonate from inside her is amazing. It's not often you hear someone playing an instrument so well that you feel every emotion as it were your own. Great job!
Look her up. She's a professional pianist and composer. Started playing piano at 5 and doing compositions at 10. Think about it that way: Why would she not be able to play "simple" pieces by ear on the spot, if the average person who is not even a singer is able to sing along to songs after hearing them a few times? To her, the piano is probably her primary voice, and she trained memorizing and analysing songs most of her life.
if i could have any skill in the world it would be what she is doing in this video. just to be able to hear music then play it on piano so well is amazing.
Practice, practice, practice, and experience. Oh, did I mention practice already? The more time you spend doing an activity, the more capable you become in it. If you put in the effort, you can. One last thing, practice.
+Michael L. Musical school requires extensive ear training. Initially it's just intervals from one note to another but advances to chords and more. Exercises often are listening to a musical piece and transcribing it correctly. So, yeah, she might be listening to the clips several times and multiple takes to really hammer in her arrangements (in addition to the multiple camera angles) but it's about as on the spot as arrangement and music can get. All that aside, it's hard as hell and she's got both a fantastic ear and talent.
Their conversations are great. Guy: I dont know if her name is arith or aris. Girl: ... Guy: Guys in the comment section are probably gonna hammer me for this, but i really dont know Girl: ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ Ok. 10/10 would conversate again.
I'd really like to see her play the Fallout 4 theme. I'm surprised that didn't make the list. Great job. Amazing performances beyond comprehension (in general)!
TheLatvianHamster Perfect pitch is being able to hear a note and go "oh, that's a C" or "Oh, that's a B flat". If you have perfect pitch, you can pick up a piece of sheet music and be able to sing it without a piano. Or, in this case, you can hear a recording of a song and know what notes to play on the piano to mimic the exact pitch of the music. Very few people have it, and I consider it very impressive. I am in a choir with 30 or so people in it, and only two people have perfect pitch.
Bloody hell. It's one thing to have perfect recall and/or even perfect pitch perhaps, but then she's literally composing a piano arrangement on the fly... and she's playing expertly at that! Not to mention this stuff is hard!!! This is truly impressive.
Immensely happy that I found this channel. You're both stellar creators and I'm glad that you're sharing your gifts with us. applause Also, "Aerith" doesn't translate into Japanese as such, and the sound that "th" makes in English is often translated as "su" (e.g. north = nōsu). So, neither Aerith nor Aeris is inherently wrong!
Final Fantasy is a Japanese game, and Japanese has no "th" sound, nor can a word end in "s". Because of this, "th" and "s" are both converted to "su" in Japanese language. Translated, either way is correct, as technically her name is "エアリス" or "Earisu" in roman characters, and the more English-friendly romanization is up to interpretation. You're welcome. I'm a hopeless, nerdy weeb with a fetish for language studies. Aaaaaanyway, beautiful piano. That ability is fucking goals. Props to her.
Sapphire Otaku I dug through all of the comments to make sure someone at some point answered why there were some different versions of her name. For further clarification this translation problem was further compounded by the fact that when the game originally came out many of the copies came with Aerith spelled Aeris. This was not what the localization team wanted and it was changed in future runs so the community is fairly split on the pronunciation. My copy always said Aeris so it's hard to not want to still call her that.
Just tell me how to be like her... I am playing piano for around 2 years, and now all I want is to be like her! Extraordinary ear playing along with skill and techniques!
Morad Shelbi I once had the opportunity to sit down and chat with a Grammy award winning Pianist and he was telling me he started as a child and you basically sacrifice any kind of normal life and you are married to your instrument, even prodigies are no exception.
If you want to learn to do this, learn music theory surrounding construction of chords and the various intervals, quiz yourself on every single interval and every single tonality, and then quiz yourself on which mode you recognize. Over time you'll be able to pair up these exercises to eventually learn progressions in each mode and discern which progression it is and if it's the same progression but in a different mode/key and how the interval sounds to each chord etc. It sounds complex, but the actual idea is very simple. This is all about training your ear, so do this, this'll roughly get you there.
As another person who loves to compose on piano I have to say I have never thought about hitting the strings with my hands for the halo theme really added a whole new sound to the piano cover.
all i have to say is the incorporation of the ff7 theme is amazing, and the entire game soundtrack is amazing and i would love to see a full video on it
Matt Snyder No, some musicians can do it, but they need a trained ear. Its based on relitive pitch, so if you can hear one note, it's easier to play the piece, but the skill is still stunningly rare and impressive.
+Cosplay Creations (ThreeIsKeyCosplay) ive started playing modern songs by ear and when you take music lessons and are forced to memorize its actually much easier than expected to work out how to play the identifying parts and just tie it together
Holden Ard That's how it was for me as well. Since I played harder songs like Sadness and Sorrow from Naruto or Stitches, its easier to work on actual lessons.
um okay. I know there are some incredibly talented people out there but there is no way she played those straight up by ear without any kind of practice. I'm not being sceptical I'm just saying that's god level piano and it's highly unlikely that she's at that level without being more famous.
really love the fact that when she was listening to the halo theme, you could actually see her fingers moving trying to work it out in her head what keys to play
How long did it actually take her to arrange each piece? There's no way she listened to the song once, immediately turned around and started playing off short term memory alone..? Unless she did, but if so I'd assume you wouldn't have cut to her playing on some of those 😜
brian frescas It is totally possible. This girl has perfect pitch for sure, which means she can identify chords and notes extremely fast. I myself am a good (but nowhere near as good as her) piano player and I also don't have perfect pitch (just a well developped relative one) and I'm able to do what she does. What is most impressive is what she plays with her left hand, going across the piano and understanding exactly what arpeggio to play, this is a skill very few people have.
エアリス (Earisu) is the originl name, both Aeris and Aerith are translations of the original japanese name, but Aerith is the official translation whereas Aeris is just the transliteration from the original japanese Earisu.
Japananese doesn't have a "th" sound Not that that's an ultimate deciding factor, as many things get retranslated when they come to the west, but in this case I think it gives more credibility to the "Aeris" pronunciation
Akaji Blubb Unfortunately Japanese don't care much when it comes to pronunciation of Western names like that. While "Aerith" is the correct translation, it is an incredibly stupid name and when you say it you sound as if you have a lisp, but Square likes the way it looks. Of course, being Japanese, they still pretty much pronounce her name as "Aeris", so the only people who insist on calling her Aerith and pronouncing her name like that are Japanophiles who want to sound smart/special.
Tbh, it's not super complex. She'll recognize many different chord progressions/tonality of the mode she's in, therefore she'll anticipate what's coming next, which is simple as most consonant pieces follow a chord progression. If she is used to that all she needs to be used to afterwards is the different intervals the melody plays to the chords, paired with dynamic/tempo changes which you can see her "miming" (which goes with the pedal control as well) and the simplicity of just choosing a note of the 12 which is the same key as the original she gets the note.
Once you spend a lot of time playing you stop thinking about where your hands are supposed to go but rather how to put the emotion of the song into notes, although it takes countless years to get to that level of skill.
It's possible she would play through a theme without chords just to get the partials right... There was probable some checking of this. Plus she could have heard it more than once.
Jake no it's definetely staged, she played the most common skyrim arrangement with the octave jumps although she acted like she had never played it before
It's official. She has superpowers
Nice profile pic btw. Pokémon is leif

positional awareness of the keys and an amazing memory. her skill is stunning
I swear I can see her fingers glow and whenever they touch the piano keys little fairy lights fly up and dance around her. 💕

brian frescas It is totally possible.
Aerith is the original name, Aeris is a mistranslation.
エアリス (Earisu) is the originl name, both Aeris and Aerith are translations of the original japanese name, but Aerith is the official translation whereas Aeris is just the transliteration from the original japanese Earisu.
Edu but Aeris is the more true translation
Japananese doesn't have a "th" sound
Not that that's an ultimate deciding factor, as many things get retranslated when they come to the west, but in this case I think it gives more credibility to the "Aeris" pronunciation
Akaji Blubb Which is why Square has consistently translated it as Aerith in all of their translations they've managed?
Akaji Blubb Unfortunately Japanese don't care much when it comes to pronunciation of Western names like that. While "Aerith" is the correct translation, it is an incredibly stupid name and when you say it you sound as if you have a lisp, but Square likes the way it looks. Of course, being Japanese, they still pretty much pronounce her name as "Aeris", so the only people who insist on calling her Aerith and pronouncing her name like that are Japanophiles who want to sound smart/special.
She is a genius, plain and simple. It's the first time I've seen her and she just blew my mind!
Tears....literally tears... this artist is brilliant.
Increíble.
Where's Jon Risinger?
Giving bonus points to Andy
Jonathan Miller duh dun du. Duh duh

That Skyrim and Aerith's Themes were damn well played!
I felt something soggy and warm come out of my ear when she did that with Halo... I think my soul just left me out of joy...
c'mon, I expected better from you guys. everyone knows it's supposed to be Aeritshsthhsht
Aleph Bot yes of course
Aleph Bot how could i forget
Aleph Bot crystal tower theme from ff3 wouldve been great
I can understand how she gets the main melody, but what about the left hand? how does she do that? I wanna know :(
She knows the underlying chords, and intersperses different patterns of those chords (octaves into triads, sixths, etc). Hope I could help!
Josep Pi - Anime/Games Piano covers! Experience, I'm sure
Sean O'Brien Thank you so much!
Travis Godfrey Evans Thanks for the explanation, will do that.
Have a good day :)
MORTAL KOMBAT!!
+HumbaBlacksmith yeah
DUDE!!! That's the best Halo theme I've heard! I think we'd all like to see a full-feature video on her playing the whole song. Wow. Just wow.
I got chills immediately when she started playing the Halo theme. Subbed.
i have a very hard time believing she did it with no practice between camera cuts.
Joseph Switch its most likely improvision but in sure there were more factors off camera than her listening to 5 seconds then playing the whole song
Jake no it's definetely staged, she played the most common skyrim arrangement with the octave jumps although she acted like she had never played it before
Even if so.
Has the "Happy" video from the intro been uploaded? does anyone have a link to it?
+TheDrunkenMelon Not yet...it's the long lost video that will one day be finished...darn puppets :-)

Yes, please do.
That would be best.
No! Thats the janitors closet... third on the left.
no thats my room 4 on the left
literally all in music theory, and the fact that she can decipher the chords that quickly is amazing
Her ability to instantly replicate songs just from listening for a few seconds is amazing
