I’ve been going to a nail salon for dip powder nails for a while now. Today, I did it myself, at home, for the first time, and I quite love the result! Ha! I think I found a way to save money for my next trip! 😂😂😂 Thank you so much for your videos! 💕
I just started doing my own nails and I have to say your videos are the most informative and I just love listening to you talk as well. My nails turned out amazing because of your helpful videos!
Nail prep: 1. Shape nails with file 2. Push back cuticles with cuticle pusher 3. Remove shine on nail using buffing block (a gritty one, not a soft one) 4. Remove oil from nails 4. Apply peelable base coat Application: 1. Small amount of base coat apply away from cuticle 2. Tilt powder at an angle and dip in 3. Run toothpick around cuticle area before the product dries 4. Don't brush off excess powder until the very end just to make sure it's completely dry 5. After all 5 nails are done, dust of excess powder using a hard scrub brush 6. Repeat steps 1-5 (so this is the 2nd dip) CLEAR DIP POWDER STEP: 1. Base liquid full layer 2. Dip in clear powder ACTIVATOR: 1. Apply generous amount of activator 2. Wait 2 mins 3. Shape, buff, and file nails 4. Brush off excess powder 5. Add more activator 6. Wait 2 more minutes 7. Wipe nails with paper towel Finishing up: 1. Top coat first layer (3 quick strokes) 2. Be more detailed and slow when you add 2nd layer of top coat. Make sure to cap the free edge 3. Apply cuticle oil
Thank you so much for the kind feedback 🫶🏻 I realized when a new face reached out that I didn’t have any recent videos to share that showed the whole shebang 😆💖 and HAPPY FRIDAY!!
Just started dipping and I watched all of your videos, they are very helpful!! Its an excellent video for beginners!!! Can u do a video for dip powder fill on natural nails after they grew for about 2 weeks, a different color fill on top of the old powder. How to do a lighter color fill on top of a darker color and vice versa Thank you so much ❤️
Thank you so much for watching and supporting! 🫶🏻 I can definitely film a fill with a different color! When it comes to doing fills, I would suggest to sort of be strategic about it. So start with a lighter color first, and then a darker color for fill. That way you don’t have to do too much filing. Since I don’t use an efile, that is definitely something I keep in mind 😄 With trying to do a fill of a lighter color on a darker color, I would say it’s possible… but it would be a lot of work 😆💖 you would have to file off pretty much all of the darker shade so it doesn’t show through. I suppose it also depends on if it’s a pigmented lighter shade or if we’re talking about more translucent like Revel’s erica. If wanting to go the fill route, I would definitely do a clear apex first regardless. That way when you file down the color your clear apex is still there! I am going to put my thinking cap on for this for y’all!
You just did a video on one hand.. and with the magic of editing minutes here and there, it does seem quick n easy, but I’m glad you advised your audience that we should slow down when doing our nails. when I do my nails at home it takes me close to 2 hours and sometimes just a bit longer, from removing my old gel polish (or dip powder nails), preparing the cuticles, on both hands, painting the nails and curing them, etc, etc…then cleaning up after myself and disinfecting my tools. Yes it quicker getting them done, but it’s my hobby and I love learning from great people like yourself… Keep up the good work ❤
So much yes! 🫶🏻 it takes me hours as well and that’s totally okay and normal! I’m also a perfectionist by nature so I’m much more critical which also adds on time 🤣🙈
I’ve had so many issues trying to do my nails at home after watching endless YT videos. Thank you for this video! I have to say it was the most informative.
Thank you for all these great tips! Several years ago I tried to do dip manicures on myself and was disappointed in my results. I recently decided to try it again and have watched this video (and a few of your others) several times before rebuying product. Today’s attempt turned out soooo much better and I know it is because of your tips!
I'm waiting for my 1st order of dipping powders & liquid. My question is - can I use it over a split nail. Up till now I've been patching & gluing the split before applying polish but imagine that this will make this system quite bulk lumpy. I've found your tutorial videos very helpful so I look forward to your answer. Thanks so much
Hi, I have found that when I put tips on with my dip powder it stays a lot longer than when I just do dip powder on natural nails. I don’t know why or if it’s because of my job but I just find it chips so easily whereas when I wear a tip it doesn’t. Maybe I need to do another layer or 2 to make it thicker, what do you think? X
Hi there! I am loving your videos!! I am new to dipping. I don't think I am buffing my nails the right way. I feel like as soon as I use the activator it gets bumpy and I buff my nails but then thr final coat is never that shiny. Could you do an in depth video in buffing please?!
How do you keep the powder application looking so smooth throughout the process? Mine generally have ridges and bumps by the time I get to activate and then I have to file down and smooth which takes awhile
Thank you. Did my first set today. I’m pretty happy with them. Exited I no longer have to spend money at salon. I used azurebeauty dips set. Q: can you use other base, activator, top from another company with their powders? I wasn’t crazy about the tiny plastic bottles that came with kit.
Yayyy! So happy to hear this! 🫶🏻 welcome to our dip community 💕 and YES! You can absolutely mix and match one brand’s liquids with a different brand’s powders. Happy dipping!
Does the dip powder damage your natural nails like the nails extensions do ❤❤ would mean a lot to me if you could let me know when you have time thank you so much ❤❤
What would you recommend on on dip powder nail kits I am a complete noob I always went to a salon and got French but it's getting to costly now days so do you have any dip powder nail kits?
Wonderfully informative tutorials, thank you. I have longer natural nails and tend to get a dip at the free edge which looks like a ski slope. Would be able to suggest how to fix this? Thanks much.
Thanks for your kind feedback! 🫶🏻 just so I’m understanding, are you saying at your free edge it’s sort of a ridge and higher than at your cuticle area? If so, this can be prevented by removing more product on your brush and dipping into the jar at angle. It’s totally possible that you’re already doing this though ! If that’s the case, then I would try the pour over method. Sometimes despite our best efforts we will get a ridge by dipping into the jar. So I would try pouring the powder over your nail above a cupcake liner. This should help the powder level out and not be as thick. I hope this helps ✨
@@SipAndDip :. Thanks for that. I was going to give the 'Pour Over Method' a go, when you suggested it. Appreciate your help and enjoyin your tutorials. Stay blessed.
You can get clear dip powder and only dip once or twice. She dipped a bunch of times but for thinner you can do less to look more natural. I currently have clear dip on with a nude polish so it looks pretty natural
Dusting off the powder is great for lots of reasons 💓 It can help prevent contamination of your base liquid. So when you go in for the next layer, if we don’t dust off the excess then it will get into the base liquid brush bristles. Dusting off also helps to keep the layers even and not too thick. I hope this helps!
Hey Diane! It’s going great!! I have gotten to go to a few gatherings with other USCG families and it was so nice! At our last station not many had kids or did get togethers. So I’m extra grateful for military family friends 🥰 I hope you’re having a fabulous weekend!
@@SipAndDip I’m so happy to hear it is going good! My weekend was great! We had our 2 granddaughters since their Daddy is out on a short deployment. Paisley is one of those girls, Aubrie is the other.💞🥰
Love your videos. More informative and straight forward that some professionals. Quick question, have you experienced any allergy reactions using the revel products?
Hi I am new and unfortunately I didn’t clean my top coat brush of my nail polish and contaminants came to my bottle. Do you think I have to buy the new one? It is a Dior top coat
Love your videos. They helped me so much. One question on peel base. When you pop the nails off is there anything special you need to do before starting a new mani ? Thanks in advance.
So happy to have ya here! 🫶🏻 so after I pop the mani off then I reprep my nails when I’m ready for my next mani. So I push back my cuticles, shape my free edge, apply dehydrator and then peel base. Although you don’t “have” to do all of that, I like to keep up with my cuticles so they don’t get overgrown.
@@SipAndDip thank you so much for your response. Now it makes perfect sense. Just love using peel base and changing my colors without acetone. You are such an inspiration to all us newbs. Even though I’m 72 🤪😂
I prefer the 180 grit since it’s a rougher grit and dip powder is tougher to shape than natural nails. I like glass files for my natural nails because they’re more gentle. You can absolutely use glass files though to shape for dip powder! It might take a little longer and wear down the file faster though. Just personal preference ultimately 🫶🏻 they do work great to clean up around the cuticle area though because it won’t cut your skin 🙌🏼
Hi I agree with you with doing the prep and cleaning the cuticle but what’s weird is I used to get my nails done for years and these nail techs never clean the cuticles or push back or do anything for the nails? I just got right at either doing gel or dipping powder yet my nails always lasted for almost a month. I don’t get it and they do it fast.?
Thank you for a wonderful refresher course, so enjoy your channel, I was hoping for one like this in all the ones I've saved from you, it's hard to find the beginner ones. I have been using the base as a bond coat and letting it dry and then applying the base to dip, do you still suggest that? Just wasn't sure if it was a step we can skip without any problems, thank you as always and keep these coming!
Thank you for the love! 🫶🏻 I do still enjoy using the base and letting it dry but it’s totally personal preference on what you want to do 😊 As long as you’ve got a solid prep routine that works for you, that’s always the best answer 🙌🏼
@@brendaschafer956 I just saw it autocorrected to I “don’t” like the method but I DO!! 🙈 so sorry about that!! My darn phone has a mind of its own! I do still love that method and thankful it works when I decide to skip peel base
For the dip base liquid and dip top coat, it requires the activator to properly harden. Sometimes the activator can be called different names. In a 3 step system (dip base, activator and top coat), it would be the the step 2 liquid.
Hiii! Welcome to our dip powder community 🫶🏻 for dip powder liquids you won’t need any sort of lamp. However if you want to use a gel top coat or any sort of gel products in combination with the dip powder then you’ll need a lamp 🥰 I hope this helps!
Question, how long did it take you in the beginning to do dip powder nails? Also, how long does it take you now, years later? Unfortunately it takes me 3 hrs. 1 hr cuticle, file and prep. 1hr 3 layers dip depending on opacity, 1 clear dip. 1 hour shaping, buffing and top coat. I tend to get dip liquid on edges of skin no matter how hard I try to avoid and fan out the brush. How can I avoid liquids to the skin?
Hi there 🫶🏻 For me it would depend on what exactly I was doing. So nail art, ombré, glitter, solid colors etc. Right now I only do 1 hand per “job” or video. That can take anywhere from 30 min for simple manis all the way to 2 hours if things go badly 😆 I also don’t prep for longevity so that saves me time (I use peel base). Removal can also be tedious! I like to follow nail techs and enjoy the tiktoks that they share of how long manicures take them. It’s very eye opening! And even for professionals, they take 2-3 hours depending on art. I see it as self care time and my me time 🥰 if I try to rush it, it usually doesn’t go well for me lol I also think we’re more critical of ourselves and see the imperfections so we spend more time making them “right”. For getting liquid on your skin, I try to not have too much product on my brush. So I remove the liquid from the brush and star it away from my cuticle area and then guide it back. Sometimes certain brushes can be trickier to maneuver (thin bristles, long bristles, doesn’t fan out easily etc). Sometimes even the liquid consistency can make it trickier too. For example, some struggle with thinner liquid consistencies because it can be “runny”. I hope this helps! 💖
@@SipAndDip Yes it really does! I felt so bad for taking so long, haha! This really helped. Also, I think my liquid might be more fluid. I use the modelones Dip Liquids that have a Fuchia and Orange cap. I may have to use a thicker consistency one. This all helps. Thank you SO much for taking the time to answer my questions. I love your Work! You've helped me out a lot. Jesus Christ loves you! Blessings to you and your family! Y'all be well!
I have a problem with lifting, not at the nailbed but on the tips. I have really thin nails and it separates from the dip after a day or two. Do you have any solutions for that? Can't find any video that describes the same problem
So sorry to hear about your lifting at the free edge 🥺🫶🏻 let’s try to troubleshoot! Do you have long nails? How many layers are you doing? Can you walk me through your prep process?
How long do these last? I purchased products from Amazon, and my nails last about 5 days before they have to be redone. The polish chips off from the nails? When done at salon, they last at least 2 weeks. Am using dehydrator, bond, clear dip, diamond sparkles, and clear top, and/or gel top coat. It does not last!?? Frustrated why I am having trouble?
Just found you - great info, loved how you mention that we need to find what suits our own nails (my nails are very fragile due to hypothyroidism) so I wouldn't necessarily use what others could. I love the glass files and the glass cuticle remover. You mentioned to never use peel bases - any particular reason? I've tried it a couple of times but find they don't peel off or the whole thing pops off after a few days. I'm in two minds about dip powder (I only use clear to strengthen my nails before gel) after watching 'The Nail Hub' video about why she never uses dip powder - pretty scary stuff, have you got an opinion on the reasons why not to use it?
Peel base isn't meant to last more than a few days. It great for when you want to change out your nails frequently. Dip flu from being allergic to the liquids used in doing dip powder nails can be a huge reason many don't do it. Low oder liquids or using the gel method can really help with dip flu symptoms.
Fairly new to dipping but I’m struggling with I believe dip flu . I saw your dip liquids video but I’m still confused. I did try gel method but I really would like the dip liquids for the ease of removal. Any suggestions Thank you
Hi there! 🫶🏻 I am so sorry to hear about your experiences with dip flu 🥺💖 I completely understand about removal! Color my world (on Etsy) has a wonderful set of odorless dip liquids. The base is slow drying, and the top coat still has a great shine. You can use any activator with the set as well. 💖
hey sweetie I have just bought my 1st kit and I saw this tutorial. I hope you don't mind me saying but your nail beds look kinda blue. There is quite a few things that this could be pointing to but if it's not dye left from a previous nail set or nail Polish maybe get somebody in the medical profession to have a look at it. ❤
Hi there 💖 so in my new home I work on the lower floor (sort of like a basement) where the AC unit is and it’s basically a freezer down there lol so my nails naturally turn sort of bluish from being cold 🥶 😆 thankfully my nails are nice and healthy !
Great question!! 💖 I can definitely add this to my filming list! May I ask, what exactly it looks like? Is it matte, or can you describe what happened? That way I can trouble shoot it better for everyone!
@@SipAndDip I’m terrible with technology, I don’t know how to add a photo. It looks kind of like the outside of an orange peel. I hope that makes sense.
@@ftc2335 you could of left too much activator on the nail, I usually wipe the nails with alcohol and a lint free cloth before the final shiny top coat. When doing your first layer, make sure to cover the entire nail, then the second coat, add while it is still tacky. - your top coat could also be contaminated and I have experienced that it won’t dry the right way if it is contaminated!
So sorry to hear this! 🫶🏻 it could be from a variety of reasons. If they’re popping off and lifting that may be due to your prep routine. The cracking and chipping is usually from not enough strength. Here is a video that I made walking you through how to help fix chipping 🫶🏻 th-cam.com/video/vhBz3q4riig/w-d-xo.html
Bought a kit last year. Followed another tutorial and even Revel Nails' instructions. I failed miserably and gave up. I've been going to the salon for gel nails, but my last set started lifting fairly quickly. Also , my tech doesn't do designs ( love her, but disappointing). Watched this video, suscribed, got a set of summer powders, gave it another try. Succces! Sorry for the long comment! Such an instructional video. I'm canceling my next nail appointment!

It could be that they use a drill bit across the entire nail rather than pushing back + using a buffing block 💕
@@SipAndDip Not sure if you still use that method or not but thanks for the reply
@@brendaschafer956 I just saw it autocorrected to I “don’t” like the method but I DO!! 🙈 so sorry about that!! My darn phone has a mind of its own! I do still love that method and thankful it works when I decide to skip peel base
@@SipAndDip Thanks for that quick reply, mine does the same, but glad to know what you meant, Thanks Again Chelsea, won't bother you for a while!
@@brendaschafer956 you are NEVER a bother!! 💖💖💖 I’m always here if you need help!
Can on use a UV lamp with the dipping method?
You can if you’re doing the “gel method”. So the gel method would be using a gel base + dip powder. And then the top coat would be a gel top coat 💕
Great tips! Thank you Chelsea! ❤️
Thank youuuu Amy!! 🫶🏻
Beautiful video ❤pretty ring 💐
Thank you so much 💕
Great video. I just ordered Nailboo. Do I still use the dehydrator step? Or is that just for this product.
Yep! The dehydrator will cleanse the nails and remove the oils so you have a longer wear time 🥰
@@SipAndDip Thank you for responding
What can I use instead of an activator? As I’ve never heard nor seen such in my country
For the dip base liquid and dip top coat, it requires the activator to properly harden. Sometimes the activator can be called different names. In a 3 step system (dip base, activator and top coat), it would be the the step 2 liquid.
@@SipAndDip I will ask around with regards to the activator and thank you so much 😊
what is the best to use for 1 base or bond i have both
I've decided to do my own nails at home using dip powder. Can I use a uv light to dry my nails?
Hiii! Welcome to our dip powder community 🫶🏻 for dip powder liquids you won’t need any sort of lamp. However if you want to use a gel top coat or any sort of gel products in combination with the dip powder then you’ll need a lamp 🥰 I hope this helps!
Thank you
Question, how long did it take you in the beginning to do dip powder nails? Also, how long does it take you now, years later?
Unfortunately it takes me 3 hrs. 1 hr cuticle, file and prep. 1hr 3 layers dip depending on opacity, 1 clear dip. 1 hour shaping, buffing and top coat. I tend to get dip liquid on edges of skin no matter how hard I try to avoid and fan out the brush. How can I avoid liquids to the skin?
Hi there 🫶🏻
For me it would depend on what exactly I was doing.
How do we do SNS polish if the nails is very very short?
Any suggestions
Thank you
Hi there! 🫶🏻
I am so sorry to hear about your experiences with dip flu 🥺💖 I completely understand about removal! Color my world (on Etsy) has a wonderful set of odorless dip liquids. The base is slow drying, and the top coat still has a great shine. You can use any activator with the set as well. 💖
Thank you
Thank you very useful
hey sweetie I have just bought my 1st kit and I saw this tutorial. I hope you don't mind me saying but your nail beds look kinda blue. There is quite a few things that this could be pointing to but if it's not dye left from a previous nail set or nail Polish maybe get somebody in the medical profession to have a look at it. ❤
Can you recommend a truly clear dip powder?
No matter what I do, i always suffer with lifting around my cuticle are sides of my nails.
I noticed your nails have a purple hue. Is that caused from the nail thinning?
Hi there 💖 so in my new home I work on the lower floor (sort of like a basement) where the AC unit is and it’s basically a freezer down there lol so my nails naturally turn sort of bluish from being cold 🥶 😆 thankfully my nails are nice and healthy !
If after two layers of top coat it’s still not smooth and shiny what can I do to fix that?
I also have this problem and would love a solution!
That’s highly possible, I’ve ruined 3 different liquid bottles, I’m still getting the hang of everything, thank you so much!!!
Your awesome ❤
🫶🏻 thank you !! I hope 2023 is treating you well!
@@SipAndDip it is! Hope you and your family are having a great new years too!❤️
Guys is it too necessary to add 2 layers of topcoat ?
For dip powder top coats yes! 🫶🏻 for a gel top coat, no. Hope this helps!
Thanks!
Hi Why do my nails chipped and fall off so easily over the next few days? 😢Thanks
So sorry to hear this! 🫶🏻 it could be from a variety of reasons. If they’re popping off and lifting that may be due to your prep routine. The cracking and chipping is usually from not enough strength. Here is a video that I made walking you through how to help fix chipping 🫶🏻

ur nails pretty with ur ring
Thank you! 🫶🏻
mines always comes out bumpy do u know why
Mine does too if I dip the nail so I do a “pour over” and now I don’t get lumps.
Oh my goshhh! You have made my day! Thank you for leaving such a thoughtful comment 🫶🏻 I’m so excited you gave it another try and found success with it 🙌🏼 I feel like once we find our rhythm with it, it only gets better and better 🥰
@SipAndDip awww you don't have to thank me. You deserve it. You made it so simple and honestly, I'm looking forward to learning something new. Heck, I will even do them for my mom. So let the binge watching commence!
The nail beds around your half moons are purple this can indicate oxygen deprivation?
The lighting definitely exasperates it but I’m okay! It happens when I’m really cold and the medical term is Raynaud's. I’m not used to living in MD quite yet so my body is always freezing 🥶
Why is my activator not hardening?
It could be that you need more? I would try doing another layer of activator and waiting 2 min. Good luck!
I started to do my nails at home because it's getting too expensive to go to the salon.
A great tutorial for natural nail application. I do hope you're ok though - your nail beds are blue/purple. That a sign of poor circulation/oxygen. I would like to follow you for a long time. 😊
Contaminated.....
Man dip nails SUCK!
Thanks!
