Because for a comparable unit it will probably be $1.1 million. These people will need to cough up $200,000 at least. Which young people have $200,000 lying around given the current inflation and the cost of living? Radiologist resident makes little money. Data scientist can’t be using his income supporting her plus a new baby coming. Sure, they can move out to Quynh’s or other parts of New York City, but those will be less desirable in commute, safety, access to friendship, quality of life. Plus the radiologist probably has medical school loans, and whether the future of radiologist will be replaced by AI is also uncertain. Where as in Asia or in Europe living in a fun, safe, enjoyable, walkable neighbourhood is a diamond a dozen where as in United States there are only a very few places in all of the country that offers similar amenities. And these places cost an arm and a leg.
@ no offense, if a doctor and a software engineer working at google can’t save $200k for a down payment, then it is their fault. Do you see all their fancy food video where they are eating out most of the time? Maybe instead of eating out all the time, they could have save those money into a down payment. I’m 47 year working in IT support with a family of 4 making around $100k/year. I bought a brand new 3 bedroom 2 bath condo in Brooklyn back in 2016. as of 12/21/24, i have paid off my 30 years mortgage. Do you know how i do it? Instead of ordering from door dash, i do part time food delivery with door dash, ubereat, and grubhub with my bike. Instead of owning a tesla, i own tesla stocks.
@@vincentnnycwow dude, you’re so out of touch, just because they choose to share a snapshot of their life doesn’t mean it’s comparable to yours. You also stated you bought your house in 2016 that’s almost ten years ago when the economy was in a very different place. Also she stated she is a first year resident, you know residents don’t make that much money, it’s pretty much like they’re still in school. And if you didn’t notice they are already supporting two other people in their household with another one on the way, so five people most likely living off one salary, in one of the most expensive cities in the world. That’s a really great accomplishment for you, that you took out a 30 year mortgage, but maybe they aren’t ready to commit to a city, place, job for that long.
@ what about 2 other ppl in their household that he needs to support? All i see is a dog. Anyway, if i can do it with a $100k salary and i got 6 (2 kids, wife and 2 grandparent) ppl to feeds, plus a cat and a fish tank. So could he with his $250k/year salary. Life is all about choices.
Yea you guys need two bedrooms buddy. If you’re already paying $5,200 you can be more efficient with your dollars elsewhere. But what do I know. Best wishes
@ansemdevil - thanks for the comment! yeah that’s what we figured. Our main requirements were two-bedrooms with an in-unit laundry and it wasn’t easy to find a cheaper option. Happy holidays!

Why pay $5200/month in rent when you can use that money toward a mortgage for a 2 or 3 bedroom condo or coop in nyc?
thanks for the comment @vincentnnyc! we don’t have the money for the down payment and the interest rate is way too high 🥲
