- Hey guys, Welcome back to the Twisted ADV channel and I hope you were able to enjoy the holidays! Today I decided to share a video of my first attempt using the winch on my Jeep. Things didn't really go as planned as they rarely do but in the end, I prevented what would have been a very frustrating moment on the trails. Please be sure to check your equipment prior to any trip to the trails or if you happen to have any Honey-Do projects.

Since you have both a negative and a positive terminal on the winch motor, the motor field and armature should be isolated from chassis ground. I would recommend disconnecting both cables from motor and checking motor (resistance checks) for shorts to case ground.
Hey Chris, Glad to see the channel is up and active again as I've really enjoyed your previous posts. Wonder if the motor armature and field coil assembly are simply rusted together causing the high current load? Loved the video.

I thought about taking it a part to troubleshoot the problem. About 3 seconds later I was scouring the internet for a good replacement. I ended up with the APEX Badlands 12,000lb Winch from Harbor Freight. There was a 25% off coupon. Synthetic line, wireless remote, and looks much better than the old engo for sure. Install video is currently in production.
