I've always gone a touch weak instead. Since i'm more likely to short draw on an animal at the moment of truth. But this is an interesting perspective i've never considered
The key is to find that sweet spot that works best for you. I sat on this video for months afraid to publish it thinking people would be bashing me. But finally said screw it. This is how I shoot and how I've been shooting for years and it works best for me.

I like riding the weak line I find it’s more forgiving and groups better
Nothing wrong with that and proves the most important point. Show what works best for you and your style. A slight stiff or a slight weak is all good the feathers will correct it very quickly. Not saying I recommend being out of tune. But a smidgen either way won't hurt and might be a titch better for someone.
Jesus, I've just watched 10 videos trying to find out stiff/weak- goes to the left or to the right.... and it was unclear, or even contradictory..... in less than 3 minutes you made me understand the process and not just which way is which. Now I know what to do with my bloody arrows 😅😆😁. Thank you Sir!

I cant my bow and shoot instinctive. I learned it very early on that a slightly stiff spined arrow also neutralizes the tendency of EFOC arrow from flying pointing down. It's no magic that you can hit your target without looking at the arrow. It just works that way. Thank you for posting this and explaining it better than one ever tried, or thought but not tried.

Yep key is to find that sweat spot
The reason I cant the bow, it causes the deflection from a slightly stiff arrow to go away from riser at an angle. That does a couple of things for you. Your windage will be closer to center and you will gain a tad of elevation or lose less at least. Back when I shot heavy bows my perception was my bow shot flat out past 20 yards to about 23 just maybe an inch low. In reality it was rebounding away from the riser on an angle.
interesting point and very much could be true. All i know is I really like it this way. Have shot like this ever since I started shooting an ASL or Hill style bow and love the results. my arrows fly great and the riser doesnt get into my vision like it does when I run a weaker shaft. Could also just be the way I shoot. but it works great for me.
Great info on that subject, definitely makes sense. I typically shoot stiffer on my compound bow setup because of more lbs psi. Still learning in the trad bow set up I have now, definitely take that in consideration.
Yep test arrow set ups and find what one works best for you. Charts will get you close but the fine tuning matches your arrows ro your style

I've always shot wood Arrows in my younger days...400 -500 spine. Now I go slightly over.. Currently shooting a 600: carbon with a 125 Zwickey Delta..It's working

I'm having a hill style longbow built right now and I'm wondering what spine arrows I should get for it. It will be 50# at my drawlength and I will be using carbon arrows with 200-250 gn up front. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Love the channel and podcast.
depends on your draw length, your arrow length etc. And only real way to find out is the bares haft test and find what works best. But on a forum like tradgang there are many that will probably have a similar set up to yours and be able to get you real close. I honestly dont have any good suggestions. my arrows are unique with the double inserts and ive been shootin the same arrows so long I dont even know what spine works how for who etc.

I also like riding the fine line towards stiff. Makes me come to full anchor and pull through. Also my arrow over all weight is on the high side. Great information here.

I shoot self bows. Weak shafts for me because of the handle width.

I'm hitting 3 Midwest states this year. Still undecided on what those are yet.
I tend to shoot a little left, so guessing I would want a lighter spine setup, ha.
Or the shaft could be bouncing giving a false result. Let the bare shafts tell you what you need.

First off, anyone who paper tunes a trad bow does not know what they are doing. Paper tuning is for a compound using a mechanical release. That release is the same every single time. Your finger will never be the same. Just bare shaft tune and be done with it. You are doing too much work. And this sight picture stuff. This is for those who cannot shoot without aiming. If you must aim, then go with the proper spines arrow. I can go stiffer because I am an instinctive shooter. This is something that cannot be learned. Look the word up in the dictionary. It is some thing that comes natural to you. Most do not have it. I shoot like Howard Hill, but not even close to as accurate. But I never hold at full draw. My strong hand is always in motion. So again, stop trying to paper tune a read bow. It’s a total waste of time. Not one of us has a release like a machine. Our hands just don’t do that. This is why this man said that 2 out of 10 paper tuned arrows shoot a bullet hole. Maybe it was the other 8 that were the correct ones. See where I am going with this. Just some long earned wisdom from a 62 year old life long shooter of both trad and compound.
