    I'll have to try some of your suggestions. I'd like to try Ottoman Empire, Part 2 and Russian Oud especially.
    I know I know everyone says they don't have any oud in them, but my favorites are TF Oud Wood and Creed's Royal Oud. Whatever they do have, it works well for me.

  • @psterud
    @psterud 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Another cool video. Thank you. I still wear Al Oudh every once in a while, because although it's not really an oud fragrance, it's still evocative in a way that Duchaufour is so good at, and for a reasonable price, and will always have a place in my heart. Agree about Zworykina's Cuir de Russie. Powerful, real, transporting stuff.
    A couple Western oud accords I enjoy are Guerlain's Oud Essentiel and Laurent Mazzone's Black Oud (similar to Black Afgano, but better, IMO), which can both be found for relatively low cost. And then my favorites with real oud so far are Hayat by Kemi Blending Magic and Notorious Oud, a new one by D.S. & Durga, both of which are quite artistic, and don't play the standard rose game.

    The five sprays of Oud Palao on the strip. You absolute beast. One of my favorite fragrances.

  • @JohmathanBSwift
    @JohmathanBSwift 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Al Oudh , yes dates. Wonderful opening, then the cumin comes forward and mixes with the incense and spices.
    At that point it becomes dry , and the civet and cumin really come forward.
    It settles back into a sweet dried fruit date mix. I like it. Diptyque is a great house.
    I have Russian Oud . Very happy. I only have a 5ml of Oud Maximus. whoa.
    Great list.

    So happy to see Ajmal here! Yes we do distill Oud, in fact, you should search for Ajmal Oud Tour on TH-cam, we take Perfumers with us to Assam, on a 5 day trip, educating them about Oud, from planting trees, until distillation and purification. =D

    Brilliant video and selection guys. Just a little comment, I own most of the fragrance that you selected and must say they are brilliant if you're into oud. However you'll find the best oud fragrances are from the Arabian and Indian house, Indian is hard to find. Try some from "Arabian Oud" or from "Abdul Samad Kureshi", Arabian Oud has more westernfird oud fragrances.

    Some good choices there gentlemen!
    My Absolute apex Oud is ALD Russian Oud. 🤩
    My life's pride & joy is owning 2 bottles of it(until my baby is born that is haha!)
    I am yet to try Oud Maximus but the Rose notes are keeping me at bay, roses are troublesome to me unfortunately.
    Oud Palao also fantastic for the price & probably the only Diptyque I'll ever own.
    Curious to know if you have tried Auphorie Binturong & Xerjoff Mamluk? Polar opposites in all facets of course but both quite interesting scents.

  • @cyberbully3074

    Love the video, love the list! I would pick eo1 pure parfum as my number 1( only have a 7.5ml decant unfortunately) and Russian oud as my number 2 ( no pun intended) ( have a full bottle) I love our Maximus but I find it's opening too cheesy. P.s - I blind bought something you should definitely check out- brindaban by aggarwood Assam , (it's on Etsy) it is an Indian attar in edp form, nikhil and Juan had reviewed it and really loved it,. Are you going to sample the new bogue?

    greetings - and kudos for another terrific fragrance vignette. I don't wear a signature perfume, but I DO wear a signature note - oud. all my perfumes are either overtly oud-based, or have a note of oud (natural and/or synthetic) of some sort or to some degree. I could prattle-on for hours about the topic - my partner enjoys perfumes but claims I am obsessed. he's not wrong! adding to what others have kindly mentioned, I'd like to give a nod to a few of my favorites: "Oud Musc" and "Oud & Oud" by Cartier (nose Mathilde Laurent has created my absolute favorite oud series, though most are now discontinued - an uncommon and fascinatingly unique oud DNA), "The Hope" by Thameen (with a peculiar but soft and lovely Coca-Cola vibe), "Enigma Oud" by Roja Dove (Roja's oud, peach and rose - a moderate and sexy gourmand), "Watan" by Anfas (a gourmand with a savory bleu-cheese funk), "Shaghaf Oud" by SwissArabia (a powerful but inexpensive gourmand replete with oud, rose, chocolate, and praline notes), "Wood Infusion" by Goldfield & Banks (an orange-tinged mingling of woods - citrusy and thickly dank, but in a good way), "Mosaic" (this eponymous scent is simple - oud, cedar and few other notes to round-out things - EDP that sadly performs like an EDT - the 100ml is now sold-out, but the 50ml is available again), "Oud Magnetique" by Molinard (a most unique oud-and-rose duet), "L'Homme Aux Gants" by MDCI (I appreciate previous reviews of this - one of my favorite fragrances which I lovingly put in my oud-and-nutmeg corner, with a hint of vanilla - I find this perfume emotionally moving), "Smoked Oud" by OK-Fine Fragrances (oud that's been aged in a bourbon seasoned American oak barrel - not a gimmick - this is a handsome offering in numbered batches and bottles), and speaking of smoke, "Blackmail" by Kerosene is dark forest smoke done to perfection. my apologies for the lack of brevity. I do hope someone finds something of worth here, as I frequently find with the Wafts from The Loft fragrance reviews. cheers!

    I am pleased to own OEII and (very recently) Monarch - having asked Perfume Guru on Instagram which one between Maximus and Monarch, he said Maximus was his favourite by Bortnikoff - I chose Monarch cos I read you think it is easier to wear. Are they different enough to justify buying both? Your OM was free after all

    • @WaftsfromTheLoft
      @WaftsfromTheLoft  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      They are completely different. Yes, I paid for Oud Maximus but not Oud Monarch, and if I had to chose just one it would be maximus. Maximus is much punchier in the opening, then it’s about citrus and florals, so quite different to monarch

    Attars are where many of the best ingredients and blends are happening. Sultan Pasha, Rising Phoenix, Elixir Attar and Mellifluence are the houses I love. Some of the greatest work today is happening there. I think Sultan Pasha is the master and one of the greatest in the world right now. From SP, Ensar Rose is one, D’aurum d’Anghkor is another. Juriah is the oud rose masterpiece.

    I have Thirty-Three by Ex Idolo which is a monster but probably too heavy and jammy in retrospect though it does contain real oud. If I was very rich I’d get The Night by Frederic Malle. Even their lovely new one, The Moon is hugely expensive at half the price of The Night! Meanwhile I love Dior’s Leather Oud which I suspect is a skanky leather with no actual oud at all but still smells great.

      @@WaftsfromTheLoft Thank you for your insight which I really appreciate. Indeed this brand is not path-breaking. There are not many fragrances that have mastered the art of blending modern notes with oud. Could you review some popular oud fragrances where oud compliment other notes (like barbershop fresh notes, Fougere, insense, leather, gourmand etc.) and do not overpower, widely available and somehow remains within $250 price, keeping longevity and projection in mind? I find it really important that oud fragrances should be easily wearable and aromatic in nature and that generates interest among them.
      Thank you for taking the time to reply. I wish you both all the best!

If you like Jubilation give that a shot its very similar smelling but with a big rum note in the opening and running throughout, its one of Duchafour's works it has oud and guess what..was released originally in 2001 couple years before that glory hogging M7 🤣🤣🤣

    M7 was the king. It was the first, it flopped and now its so insanely expensive on the used market. Why the hell doesn't YSL just relaunch it in its original formulation and be done with it. It would sell like hotcakes and destroy the competition as they're all copies of it anyway. C'mon YSl. give the people what they want. OUD Absolu is total bs.

    • @WaftsfromTheLoft
      @WaftsfromTheLoft  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, M7 was a game changer for Western Perfumer. Tom Ford and his boldest. Oud Absolu is a sad shadow.

    Are you serious Oud Ispahan is the original and the better transitioning ... do you not have access to Rojas ? What about Amber Aoud ? What about Fragrance du Bois Sahraa Oud ? You all are stuck on the stuff you got free from bortnikoff and Areej 🤦🏻‍♂️ Sahraa Oud and Amber Aoud are some of the most opulent smells out there

    • @WaftsfromTheLoft
      @WaftsfromTheLoft  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Never had anything free from Areej. Oud monarch is the one fragrance that was given to us. We’ve always had a bit of problem with RD, in that he lies about the basic premise for his company by pretending to be a perfumer, when it is well known that he is not.

    U guys hv some respect within frag comm for real reviews but today my respect is fading away a bit......
    Talking about Oud is very vast n have many frags to name but among them FDB Fragrance Du Bois is very special n have almost in all of their frags with stunning performance....you have failed to do justice for FDB....n instead bringing Diptyque....ALD 2 frags....Bortnokoff 2 frags you could have easily bought FDB ...this shows your level of understanding of Oud...
    Sorry if I have written anything wrong but this is my feedback

    • @WaftsfromTheLoft
      @WaftsfromTheLoft  4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      I've tried quite a few FDB, I try them every time I go into Jovoy in London. Considering that they're a similar price to Bortnikoff and AleD (some are more expensive) I don't think they're in the same league as the Feel Oud guys. The feel oud house distil and tincture a lot of their own materials, and the quality shows and the price is justified. I've never smelt that with any FdeB. I haven't explored FdeB exhaustively at all, but I've not found one yet that really grabs me. For the price, I'd much rather have Oud Palao, but that is my personal taste.
