Philosykos EDT is a beautiful fig fragrance from them. It encapsulates the whole fig tree, not just the fig. So good.

Do Son is my favourite. Also Fun Fact: Do Son is a small village at the east coast of Vietnam where my family is from. It is also where the creator of that scent, i forgot his name, spent a lot of times at. Hence why he named it after that village.

Very nice review! I really enjoy Diptyque. I have about 9 of their fragrances. Oud Palao was my first Diptyque purchase in 2016. It was also my first fragrance with oud in it. It has since remained my absolute favorite oud perfume. I've tried many including the popular Oud For Greatness. Glad you pointed out how different oud can be. I don't wear Oud Palao a lot anymore, but when I do, I receive many compliments.

I am in love with Diptyque. So far I have Oud Palao, Tam dao, Do Son, Philosykos, Eau de Sens, 34 Saint Boulevard, and Fleur de Pau. With the exception of Fluer de pau, I really enjoy all of them.
I tested Orpheon recently and I also enjoy it.

Ive got Benjamin boheme, Phyliosykos, tam dao, eau capitale but do son is one of the most beautiful floral fragrances I’ve ever smelled. Such a fantastic house that isn’t raved about enough imo. I think you might like Benjoin boheme! It’s mildly sweet gooey ambery loveliness

Greetings and salutations. I have loved your work for a long time and watching your transcendence and growth arc, has been lovely to observe. Truly. Just wanted to say thank you for the tip of getting our noses onto some raw materials. It has helped me figure out my desires and needs within fragrance. Changed my world honestly. It does bring me to this question.. do you think you will ever do any more classes or schooling to educate those of us who are interested in the field? I have zero desire to do it for a living. I only want to tailor make my scent. As of now I layer like 3 or 4 things to get close to what it is i yearn to wear. Niche fragrances. Its asinine. Sorry im so long winded ; )

I have Oud Palao, I think it needs some time to develop on one‘s skin, as initially it smells a little ‚pissy‘… But after an 1-2h it dries down quite nicely. As for recommendations, if you like patchouli I quite enjoy ‚Tempo‘, even though it sits quite soft on the skin, I also like Tam Dao and Orphéon, both more floral but also nice! And very interesting video, as usual, thanks a lot!

34 Boulevard St Germaine is probably what i love most from this house.

Eau Capitale is my favorite from Diptyque, but because it reminds me exactly of helping my late Grandma pull weeds out of her Rose garden as a kid. As a fragrance I would go out and wear, I wouldn't.

Tam Dao and Benjoin Boheme are my favorites from the house. I really like Benjoin Boheme, but it can be a bit harder to get a hold of - it's much more subtle and wearable than I was expecting from a benzoin forward fragrance, but it is beautiful. Tam dao is theeeeee best dry sandalwood-y fragrance imo, and best of the house. Many may disagree.

Philosykos EDP is such a beautiful scent. It covers the whole fig tree, not only the fruit.
It’s one of the only scents th at has ever been able to bring me back to the Mediterranean Sea whenever I spray it on. It’s such a lovely scent. I Spray it on everyday before I go to bed. It’s super relaxing and calming for me 🤩 Performance isn’t the best, but it’s one of those scents where I’m not mad about it fading after 5-6 hours. I’d love to hear your review about it .

    • @seanfitzgerald8575
      @seanfitzgerald8575 29 วันที่ผ่านมา

@itsnok1140 I have the EDT slightly more masculine however it lasts a very short amount of time a few hours. The EDP I'd imagine lasts longer but would you say it's comfortably unisex or pushing feminine? I'm just intrigued because if I am to get it I want a longer lasting scent without you know smelling like my grandmother. Philosykos works so well in the summer in my opinion as a man but I think in the winter you need something darker and heavier. Philosykos is very milky, green, fig like of course but I get a coconut smell off it too. Hahaha my fragrance collection is quite dismal at the moment apart from Diptyque Philosykos, I have 2 at the moment 1 is Philosykos the other Drakkar Noir yes you read that right Drakkar Noir which is legendary a beast but kind of out of fashion I like it I wear it after a shower if I'm going out on a rainy night but I get a lot of people who are 30 years older than me going up to me and saying I remind them of something but they can't put their finger on it. I never hint it haha it's a secret because I like seeing people still enjoy Drakkar even though it's not the in thing anymore. When I fool my peers it's even funnier.

    Diptyque is highway robbery.
    Here's why...
This from Diptyque: "In addition to natural fragrances, Diptyque candles can also boast a high quality that is hard to match." Read between the lines. Natural fragrance does not mean essential oils. If Diptyque used essential oils they would say so. Diptyque uses synthetic oils, which almost all high-end perfumers use. There's an argument too that pure essential oils don't have a strong throw but that's another discussion. My main critique with Diptyque is that their candles are dry and very little oil is used, whether synthetic or natural. Many candles have little to no smell at all.
Diptyque was once a small company making small batch artisanal candles. The amount of oil in their candles used to bead up on the wax surface. When lit, their candles filled the room with extraordinary fragrance. When unlit, their candles had a strong cold throw. No more. Diptyque's quality is gone but it's no surprise. Diptyque expanded to some 100 stores all over the world and with expansion comes compromise. Diptyque candles are mass produced, of poor quality, and sold for exorbitant prices.
Then there's this. "Diptyque candles are all hand-poured and made of high-quality paraffin wax." This is crazy. You're paying $80 for a candle made with petroleum based paraffin wax. Is this paraffin wax from China or from France? Does it matter and how do we know? Oh, and thank you Diptyque for not using "poor-quality" paraffin wax. I can't make this stuff up if I tried. Of course, Diptyque couldn't use soy wax or beeswax because this would be too costly for them and they'd have to have to raise the price beyond what is already extraordinary. Better to pinch pennies at the factory and maximize profits. Sounds like something something, wink-wink, a private equity firm would do, not an artisanal French candlemaker.
It goes on. "Each candle is carefully prepared individually and hand poured to ensure that a qualified person can spot any problems and flaws." Does it matter if a candle is hand poured or poured from a machine? Again, with 100 stores and candles being made en masse, all that matters is precision. Great candles must use high quality wax, high quality oils and fragrances, and high quality wicks centered on their bases. This is marketing gobbledygook and Diptyque knows it.
It gets worse. Sure enough, in 2005, Diptyque was bought by... you guessed it... a private equity firm, Manzanita Capital. Their CEO, William S. Fisher's worth is $1.85 billion. He worked at the Gap and he's a hedge fund manager. It's Fisher's job to maximize profits at all costs, definitely not what I would associate with an artisanal, high quality candlemaker.
There are salaries to be paid. I'm not talking about the pittance that Diptyque's staff are paid, though they're the heart of the company and should be well compensated. The real money is made at the top of the food chain. It explains why Diptyque's candles cost $80 and if you want to buy a lid for the candle, that's an extra $30 - $60 for a cheap piece of... whatever. If you're not careful, you can spend up to $140 for a 190g paraffin wax candle. Like I said, highway robbery.
Diptique is no longer a French candle company. They are owned by a London-based conglomerate. Diptyque's gorgeous looking products and their extraordinary history keeps them from being a 1-star company, but their candles suck purple Twinkies.
There are many better alternatives at all price points. Here are a few high-end candlemakers that use quality ingredients:
Cire Trudon, Mad et Len, Maitre Gantier, Christian Tortu, & Carrière Frères
    ...and many come with lids.
