My thoughts on this is that lesserafim are here to sell an image just like every other kpop idol because I doubt that the members are allowed in the board meetings of their comebacks. Most kpop idols aren't practicing what they sing about for example, lyrics about obsession, self confidence, love.. Etc and that's fine in my opinion. I like to think Le Sserafim's idea or motto is not to change the world, but to change how you see the world. You can't be perfect; you can't be indestructible you can't be everything good and nothing bad. What you can do is try to be the closest to it as possible. Not in a perfectionist way, but in a way that you accept your flaws and choose to reach your full potential. It’s why I like the idea of easy, although the execution is flawed. It’s not easy. Living accepting that you are fragile and fearful is not easy. Choosing to be unforgiven (not being perfect) is not easy. It just looks like it is to the people who are still trying to be what is impossible. Anyway, love this idea. Whish, they didn’t use religious imagery this much though…
For me, the concept was really clarified for me during a variety show episode where Chaewon works at a fasting house and is afraid of a bug but she picks it up anyway after the MC says she's supposed to be Fearless. It was variety content instead of something part of the canon, but it perfectly exemplifies that Le Sserafim is about manifesting courage rather than being fearless. This is echoed as the explicit message of Fearnot but it's there to be read from the beginning.
I’ve always found le sserafim’s concept to be really interesting. It's such a good one and all the songs are great, but there's a kind of shallowness (that’s not quite the right word but it gets my point across). I love all those girls so much, but if your concept is that you’re a badass and independent it doesn’t really work to have the group do basically what every idol is doing. I think it’s a group that could have really benefited from having someone like Hwasa or Soyeon in it. Someone who is really changing the industry. Letting the girls look the way they want and make the music they want seems really important to the concept, but this is Kpop and the idols are so hyper-controlled that their concept just falls a little short for me. The girls are all extremely talented I feel like if the company gave them more independence it would only strengthen the girls and their concept.
i feel like if they actually let the girls have more input into what they want for their concepts and music, things could be better. Yunjin has great ideas and a desire for artistry in her solo stuff and i wish this could translate to the actual group, just like what you see with bts and seventeen
I have a mind to believe some of the controversies LSFM are finding themselves in are a result of source music wanting to “push the limits” with their image, but I agree that it feels a little shallow in the end. I think there’s better ways to break the idol industry mold, and I hope it’s something they explore more in the future!
@@mayruuhI like that yunjin wants to participate more but her songwriting and producing skills are still rough around the edges if we look at her solo releases. Fans praise her for her message but the execution and overall composition needs some work.
Hmmm idk. They may not changing the industry. But the concept really do suits them. It will suit every idol actually. Given what they experienced, the challenge, lessons and pain they’ve had. I just like to think it as .. idk.. very human? Like in their recent comeback. The concept of easy. They do struggles but with that, there is something that comes out of it. Its just human and realistic? Idk how to get my feeling/words across 😂 us. Normal people (non celebs/idols/influencers) are like that too.
Independent is probably the worst word to use to describe le sserafim's concept. They have multiple songs with lyrics about the strength that other people can give in pursuing whatever you're pursuing. A concept built around independence would never work in kpop considering you can't succeed without hundreds of people helping you at every step.
To me Lesserfim has always just had the kpop concept version of Taylor swifts Fearless album, before anyone laughs or critiques me Taylor describes fearless as “Fearless is getting back up and fighting for what you want over and over again… even though every time you've tried before, you've lost,” . “It's fearless to have faith that someday things will change.” “It’s fearless to go into something knowing your gonna get hurt in the end but to still choose to go into it” also the members do actively all claim Taylor swift as an inspiration even Huh Yun-Jin has posted several Instagram stories with Taylor’s fearless album (both Taylor’s version and stolen version) and Midnights. She even said Taylor and Demi lovato was an inspiration for her to learn how to write songs during the Love You Twice promos which was her first credited solo written song.
When I think of Le Sserafim and their concept, I like it at first glance. However, I think it's the fact that, in my opinion, their "embodiment" of the concept feels more performative than authentic compared to, say Soyeon or Hwasa. And that makes it difficult for me to reconcile my earlier feelings of excitement with my newfound disappointment given how they've evolved thus far.
I think I agree! It seems like source music is pushing heavy on the “changing the idol industry” narrative, but is also doing whatever they can to NOT have to actually follow through with that 😭
responding to the creators comment and yours, imo, le serrafim's concept is not changing the industry. For me it's learning to take pride in your self and be fearless or antifragile. You don't necessarily have to be like soyeon or hwasa to have a concept like that, you can just be yourself.

I definitely get what you mean! There’s a lot more complexity to the feeling of fear than what’s touched on in le sserafim’s works so far “Fearlessness” is seemingly feeling the fear and persevering anyways, but as to *how* we can deal with fear is a whole other challenge. It’s a lot easier said than done 😭

this is a really good analysis and interpretation of their concept and the symbolism behind it. but i feel like at the end of the day their concept is just that: symbolic. i understand it's difficult for the members to truly embody the message of their concept when it was probably their label who chose it for them, and since they as a group lack control, power, and independence they can only *represent* the message but not actually *be* it, and that is why their concept sometimes falls flat for me
