@@UwU_for_Christ criticism against what exactly? the video itself is just a commentary on how dangerous it is to forego holding your cards close to your chest in an industry that is notoriously overbearing, highly critical, and will scrutinize each and every move you make. this is already common knowledge?
I fear everytime an idol market him/her self as authentic, because everyone who had been like that has died. For me, Sulli was truly changing something. She was opening pop-up stores for people, she wanted to open more for girls who couldn't buy tampons/menstrual cups. She openly talked about being "no-bra" and she received so much criticism that for some reason I can understand the fear of idols to show people how they really are. Sulli had a solid carreer. She was the IT girl with Krystal for years. She was the Wonyoung or Jennie from these days. But I had never seen so much hatred thrown at someone and I fear that many idols wants do something more with their platform, but they don't know how and they don't have the support.
im sorry because i love sulli a lot but your statement is so wrong and delusional, sulli and mayyybe hara (which didn’t only rip bc of hate) were the only idols to rip because of “changing the industry” or being “authentic” in some way. Idols like BTS, hwasa, hyuna (even tho she’s an ew woman, she did change standards back in the day until she changed), Soyeon etc. are very much alive and completely changed different standards of the industry by also being authentic and facing criticism until the criticism began to slowly become praise (with haters still because kpop stans live love laugh hate everyday for some reason)
I think fatou is a great example of keep move in silence. I think people already expected her to be different in terms of politics and social issues mainly because she’s a black woman, however fatou never states that she trying to change anything. Instead she just does it. She’s been vocal about social issues and speaks about her own ideas and values. But she does it in a casual manner, like it’s nothing crazy and just who she is which in my opinion makes her seem more authentic. I think these are similar in an opposite kind of way, they’re both held to higher standards one being not Korean and the other being American, but where yunjin set her standards to high where intentional or not fatou didn’t bother with setting any expectations and just went along with her own standards and lives up to her own beliefs.

@@Nohame44pl the locutionary act of the statement "I want to change the industry" is just the statement itself. there is no deeper meaning and just because you want one doesn't mean you can just make one up. will and want are two entirely different verbs, how did you not know that babe?
wanting to change the idol industry feels like a very natural sentiment to express especially from an idol who was raised outside of Korea so has a more outside view on its problems and causes. you cant hate on her for not having managed to achieve it in 2 years. if anyone is capable of changing an industry like that it would take decades, the issues we see with the industry are entrenched and reflect wider elements of Korean society. anyone who holds this statement against her is being ridiculous icl. its a noble goal that she's expressed.
She could start small. She could start NOW. Start speaking up for her fellow Hybe artists affected by the current controversy. But she's SILENT. She's all talk, no action.
@iagreewithyou3478 by current hybe artists do you mean illit and lsrfm or are you a mhj simp who believes that foreigner who can't korean thinks a manager told another artist to ignore her despite there being no evidence?
I remember cringing when I read about her saying she would change the industry. To a certain extent it's HYBE identity to portray themselves as not like other KPop artists, so I don't know if it came from an exec board meeting for her persona or her. But it was a lot of pressure to put on her. How are you going to sign with a conglomerate and think you're going to change anything? And she's had haters on her back ever since. There's a good reason most KPop artists keep it bland.
Isn’t it sad that bold and honest ambition of artists are frowned upon and often attacked 🥺 too much or not… ppl should let these artists grow and let them be them. Kpop environment is too selfish imo.
Yeah it feels manufactured, I always had this feeling that Hybe tries to hard to make their groups "unreachable", like from their uniqness or ideals, but lets be honest, Hybe would never let their idols be independent or voice their own opinions on serious matters. But specially like wanting to resemble YG and their idols persona, many know that BigBang got in a lot of scandals but they never adressed them, or the "fight" between 2ne1 and SNSD (that were never true, just YG triying to create a feud to make 2ne1 even more intersting), the silence of the idols gave them a level of superiority that Hybe tries to imitate, but it doesnt work. At the end even idols like Eunchae and Sakura had to make public statements regarding past mini scandals, that could have been solved easily the moment it happened, like when Eunchae jocked about the students who had to wake early....and she got 1 year of hate until this year she apologized for it. Its just so bad managed. At the end the idols are the only suffering
Sulli was not ‘willing to bear the consequences for speaking against the industry’. She made it clear that the bullying hurt her. She was mostly criticized for going braless, having a public relationship, kissing her friend. Yeh she was a feminist and outspoken but the ‘consequences’ was that people were interpreting her posts as overtly sexual when she was just trying to live her life.
I didn't mean the bullying, I do not classify that as a consequence of her actions, it is simply a sign of weakness from those who attacked her online weaponizing the power of their anonymity, I meant the simple criticism, she knew that would happen.
@@everglowup bullying /is/ the main consequence women face for being feminists in sk? It seemed like sulli became more of an activist in response to the bullying, like being on a talk show about hate comments after she already left fx. From looking at her ‘scandals’, she was already being torn down before being outspoken about feminism.
@@everglowup you’re gonna have to expand a little on the ‘simple criticism’ part. What would you consider simple criticism that sulli got? Cause from what I remember sulli did, it didn’t warrant that much conversation.
What is wrong with kpop stans? Idols can't set a goal without having kpop stans criticize them. It's better than internet trolls who have no goal in their lives besides hating idols. If you can't be perfect, don't expect others to be.
Never receiving criticism is something that can never happen in nature. Life is set in a way that you will have to go through many hardships if you have ambitions. Now it's up to the person to change, continue or do it under silence.
She said she WANTED to change the industry not that she WILL change the industry . Yall twist words for hate . Poor yunjin had to deal with all of this for no reason
@KingKikikoi how could she fail what she didn't promise? And she's only been active for 2 years. You can't expect "change" to happen when she's still in her rookie years, can you?
She’s a good idol but her saying “she wants to change the industry” is sweet but she isn’t at the high level in to which she could actually do so. She should have said she wants to make a meaning impact on the industry
It is nice wish, and an amazing aspiration. Nothing wrong there, if anything, for awful it is, she did it already, after the whole fiasco in Coachella, idols started to sing more live. She is young, she seems to be learning to produce, she has time. Still if we judge her as a vocalist... I think she has failled till now, she can improve but that will take time and her taking more serious her vocal training while singing and dancing live at stage. It does not matter if she can sing on a studio, she must be abble to sing on a stage.
@@creatureleaf their statement was very simple to understand, they said instead of stating "I wanted to change the industry" she COULD SAY "I want to make an impact" that nuance is extremely important and would have been received much better
Haters gonna hate, evil eyes gonna glare. It's unfortunate to fear evil when attempting to do good, so I hope instead of having regrets she can focus on gaining strength for what's ahead instead.
i've always wondered why hybe pr team is so bad... everytime hybe does pr work, it always looks like a cat pretending to be a tiger😭😭 in the end of the day, it's the idol who will suffer the most because of their agency's incompetence
Man, some of the comments here are something🥴. A lot of people did not understand the video at all. K-pop stans never fail to confirm my image of them and let me tell you, its never anything positive 😂
I straight up do NOT understand why there's an expectation for celebrities to do ANYTHING other than... their job, which is to entertain us. Celebrities aren't activists and I think it's a HORRIBLE idea to get your political beliefs from celebrities. Having a large fanbase doesn't automatically mean you're also well versed in the extremely complex and difficult world of politics or industrial standards. Yunjin's job is to dance and sing, I don't expect anything else from her. In the cases of the other women mentioned, most of those "industry changing" instances occurred organically. The girls (maybe minus Soyeon), weren't actively trying to light a fire, but instead reacted to a fire that had already been started. It seems like female idols are expected to be activists more than male idols. Female idols always need to be speaking up about something related to feminism and it's getting exhausting seeing how this only continues to hurt the female idols. How very... feminist... tearing other women down for not being good enough.
I also noticed it. Female idols are held to a higher standard and expectations than male idols. Every analysis video I've seen from kpop pages are female idols. Whether its about dancing and singing skills or visuals or being vocal about whatever issues. Male idols are given more grace and tend to be babied more.
@@Jade-iw3llSince 4th gen girl groups are more known to the general public of Korea. So girl groups have more eyes on them then boygroups. People also have critisised male idols like Bang Chan for not living up to their expectations.
I do agree with your general sentiment but NOT at the expense of feminism that we still freaking need in this world. Why y'all gotta antagonize movements that are fighting for human rights like wtf????? Your favorite idol getting hate has nothing to do with feminists. If some radical idiots that call themselves feminists get on your nerves, please remember that they are just a part of a movement and painting everyone else that's even sacrificing their lives for other women to have rights in the future is just dishonest and hateful. Oh the irony to be against hate but fostering it against other groups of people. Look in the mirror before complaining about others ffs
@divx1001 I'm guessing you're reacting to my last comment. Which is actually meant to be tongue-in-cheek. I'm making fun of the very people who claim to be feminists and support women while also tearing down female idols for not being pinnacles of girl power and feminism 24/7.
just plain bad marketing from hybe's part lmao they shouldve used a more subtle phrase or something. i understand female idols being less and less opinionated due to the harsh backlash they always receive, but yunjin isn't even outspoken about anything at all, she has very western views and thats it?? marketing her as the change maker of kpop is certainly a really brave move from the company
All she did to spark this entire video series and discussion is say one sentence during her debut about her overall goal as an idol and y'all are mad she hasn't accomplished it in 2 years. You talk about the backlash female idols get for speaking out, then you turn around and make a blanket statement just willfully ignoring that she came out with a ton of entirely solo projects, one where she was honest about her feelings about idol culture just 6 months after her debut. Is that not being outspoken? Aren't you contributing to the backlash female idols get? This is an important lesson for you to put your pick & choose feminism aside to look at what's in front of you. You're hating like a man and it's grossssss
@@creatureleaf i'm literally highlighting how this is mainly the company's fault for setting the expectations too high? why do you think lsf gets so much backlash despite being fairly new? it is a bold statement from the company and it doesnt suit her well. it was expected from the way she is marketed we all wanted something more. i'm glad and happy she can be honest in her solo projects tho
I don’t usually comment on these kinds of videos because they tend to overwhelm me with everything I feel I lack. Having AuDHD makes it hard for me to even realize how much things affect everything until it’s too late. I either don’t share anything and become a ticking time bomb, or I overshare and then wonder why people look at me strangely. I’ve been binging your videos for days now, and your explanations, flow, and editing have really filled in the social gaps I’ve always wished my parents would explain better, instead of just saying, “that’s just how it is.” While some things are “it is what it is,” I believe there are aspects that can be explained to someone socially inept like me. Your content helps me understand those nuances better, and for that, I’m really grateful.
Tbh I don't care for the whole situation, but I like watching you and tbh the 'she said she wanted to' ultimately doesn't change much, because it still makes her look like she wanted to benefit from the performative activism. It's a really thin line on is it a marketing strategy (which usually all these kpop companies sell is) or just her statement. Personally I never believe in the stuff people say in documentaries, because it's a always tuned up and cut in a way to make it feel tragic or special and for you to feel amazed or sympathy. It's a pure money calculation at the end of the day, so they won't say anything unfavorable to the profits. No matter Hybe or any other big company, there a lot of employees that get their money from the group and stuff so it's just a business for them. I get when people praise bts for that even tho we don't know if they do it just bcs that's the lain they fell into and what got them the success, because they started from humble beginnings yeah, but with a group that has a ton of money poured into it, they say stuff they might believe but is curated to be the best money making wise so they want you to feel empathy and like the idol by any way they can get you to like them.

In my opinion, if someone wants to change an industry they do it through their actions not just through their words. Up until now Yunjin has said that she wants to change the industry, but she doesn’t have actions to back it up. Yes she has two songs that are really good, but she hasn’t done anything to actually change the industry. And even if this is her desire, I don’t think HYBE is going to allow it considering how manufactured their “HYBE born” groups are. The company wants certain idols to be relatable and at the same time wants to control them.
This exactly. HYBE uses her to tell fans that they are better than the rest of the industry, their idols will change something. But in the end, they still want their idols as their little dolls who behave.
The timing of this video is immaculate because this weekend I coincidentally have to write an essay about the extent public figures are required to have regarding authenticity (more so on the topic of J.D Vance and how his performance during the VP debate is being compared to him in ‘Hillbilly Elegy’), but this video really inspired me and my stance. Thanks for the great points Cheryl!
First of all the sentence “…the extent public figures are required to have regarding authenticity” is clunky af and maybe grammatically incorrect. “The extent to which public figures are required to be authentic” is more along the lines of what you would say. Also I don’t need to write an essay to tell you there’s nothing authentic about jd Vance 💀
Come on people, Let’s get real: expecting Yunjin or any one idol to flip the entire K-pop industry on its head is laughable. We’re talking about a multi-billion dollar machine that’s built on decades of entrenched standards, expectations, and absurd rules. A single person can’t just walk in and magically tear that down overnight. The industry has been molded by society, media, and corporate interests for years-it’s like trying to move a mountain with a spoon. And the people mocking her for even trying? They’re completely missing the point. She’s not claiming to have all the power to instantly change it herself-she’s trying to push the conversation forward, to plant the seeds for a shift. It’s easy to sit on the sidelines and throw shade, but it takes real guts to stand up and say "this isn’t right," knowing full well you’re facing an uphill battle. People need to stop acting like real change happens with a snap of the fingers and understand that challenging a massive, restrictive system is a process. Mocking her? That’s just showing how little they understand about what she's actually up against.
Your takes when it comes to Le sserafim always miss the mark. Your opinions are usually so good but something about this group you fundamentally dont understand and always give a poor opinion and the Fimmies prove the opposite of everytime.
These companies better hope you don’t start your own. That’s a brilliant way to fix Yunjin’s image! The first idol she brings on would have to be Alexa.
Qwer has a mostly male fanbase. Which makes me question the member's real view of feminism. At the same time, many feminists take it too far and forget the ultimate goal of feminism: to have equal rights to men. Women in Korea actually have it better than say, Saudi Arabia or Qatar. But the point is, is she really against everything feminist, or she is playing the part of an anti woke woman because the fandom is 90 percent dudes.
Fair analysis, I don't know accurate this information is but it is claimed that she said it before she was part of the group, in 2018 when she was attending an all girls university, so I think this is just how she views feminism in general.
I mean I’ve known some women that are very anti feminist but it’s mostly stems from the fact they weaponize their own victimhood and fragility to use others especially men.
I didn't even know that "I ≠ doll" was written because Yunjin was pressured by the criticism, and it still felt disingenuous. the whole le sserafim concept is disingenuous - how the hell are you going to 'oppose the public' when all you do is cater to it? I support the group but their marketing is sugar honey ice tea
it wasn't this is a lie. I =/= doll was released in Jan 23 about 9 months after their debut. before she was being criticised for this. this criticism only came about during the hate train this year.
The whole Le Sserafim concept felt like hypocrisy AFTER they ditched Garam after the bullying scandal, if I am being honest. It would've been more powerful if they held on to her, especially when she was proven to be innocent after all, but then again, they are HYBE's cash cow after all that Min Heejin fiasco so they had to make some tough decisions to ensure they are getting their ROI soonest 😅
People need to give her grace, she was literally a teenager when she made this statement, weather it was from her industry or her own persona. She’s still growing and unfortunately she’s learning that it’s she can’t fight against the machine that she’s part of. But the most important thing is authenticity. Even choosing the concept for the group came from the company and not the girls themselves. And i think what you suggested at the end works well… but only when she’s a well established veteran idol like bambam, or that guy from jyj
@@Yointrovert oh lol, thought she was 18 or. 19. But regardless my point still stands, you don’t all of a sudden gain all the wisdom and knowledge of monk once you turn legal. We’re allowed to make mistakes and learn along the way

Did you even watch the video? The video literally just explained the consequence of that statement. If you're looking to find negativity then you're going to find it because you clearly disregarded every other bit of reasoning.
@@vickmay3898 It's not should or shouldn't but rather that it happened. And I don't know who 'you guys' is but it's def not me. You should stop directing the fault at random people online that have nothing to do with her consequence of this but understand that it's a much bigger picture due to the image of herself and the expectations she created in other peoples' minds using that statement. Ofc there's going to be different opinions because she made such a bold statement. Usually idols don't make that kind of statement because then it means they'd have to live up to whatever people assume they should.
Its unfortunate her statement was never about the industry, or the people working on it. It was about differentiating her from other idols, uplifting her for not going for the perfect princess image. Her persona is the genz, chronically online, witty westerner. Her "relatability", "uniqueness" and ambition are highlighted so shed come off as genuine in an industry infamous for creating dolls. But she's no different than any other idol in this gen + its not fair to judge artists who follow the standards of the industry they work on! At the end of the day, they're all just people doing their best to make their dreams come true. Yunjin is just put on a pedestal because she doesnt fit the stereotype of what an idol looks and acts like. But when has a stereotype ever been accurate to what its trying to portray? It seems like hybe is so misogynistic that their first girl group had to walk around with a sign "we're not like other girls!" for them to be worthy of investing on.
A very constructive criticism from my observation, she was a teenager when she said it though so I'll give her grace. Though she said she feels responsible now🤷
@@florencembah2626 Wish people would take it as constructive and not as a means for hate. I am currently seeing twitter take every opportunity to use it against her. Considering she said she wants to and is still too new to have done anything without jeopardizing her image .... I will give her grace too.
Feel lile this is something that should only matter to her. She has nothing to gain by trying to live up to other people's standards of what her words mean. Also while you might be right about not voicing your goals because people will use them to come after you, people shouldn't be discouraged to express their desires even if it results in what has happened to her.
I'm not sure if Blake Lively is a good example of a public figure being ignorant of current social issues. Her backlash had do to with not being empathetic to the issue in the movie she was starring in as well as being a bully.
Her situation is why I respect Wonyoung so much. Yunjin came across as a naive girl with rose tinted glasses when she made that statement. I understand that it's her goal, but being a long time Kpop fan herself, she should've known better that saying sth like that is a double edged sword. Especially as a female idol, it's obvious people will call her arrogant. On the other hand, Wonyoung didn't say anything but shocked everyone with the lawsuit against Sojang, and her improvement in all aspects. Ironic that Yunjin was once the most liked 4th gen female idol and Wonyoung was (still) the most hated 4th gen female idol, but the latter is now turning the table while Yunjin got so much hate these days.
IMO, criticism/toxic hate/ in Kpop is not very complicated. It is focused on the very best/most popular/most talented and the very worst performers who happen to be very popular. Example, Jennie Kim, talented rapper/dancer/singer/stage performer, who was the most popular female Kpop Idol from 2017 to 2019, when she was hate trained like no other Kpop Idol who never said anything remotely controversial. Jennie never responded to the hate other than upping her live performances (the focal point of the hate) to unquestionably high standards. And that is what Yunjin also needs to do, ignore the hate train (Mastering Silence as you suggested), comeback with hits and kill it in live performances. And all will be good. Also, make sure that the 3 least talented vocalists in her group enroll in intensive singing lessons.
"just sit there and take the hate" is such terrible advice. You want her to change the industry but also want her to bow her head to all the hate and in doing so keep maintaining the nasty status quo?
This video is very constructive, and in no way were you being hateful to this idol and I respect your opinions here because it really does make a lot of sense. Thank you for not being hateful, and don't listen to these people trying to shield this girl from hate by being absoulte hateful people themselves in the process.
Yunjin said she WANTS to change the idol industry not that she’s going to. It hasn’t even been 2 1/2 years yet and kpoppies are acting like she is supposed to flip the whole industry upside down and change every toxic thing in this short amount of time. yeah she probably should not have said it but she wants to contribute to changes, including her songs, things she’s said “calories are just numbers”, “you are beautiful as you are” “your health and your happiness is most important” “you are so much more interesting than your looks”, posted for pride month and more. I’m not saying these things are directly going to change the industry as she doesn’t have the complete power to do that but she is making a difference. How can you state for a fact that she had cosmetic surgery when she has never confirmed or denied it? The standards that kpoppies have set for her is a wall she can’t climb over. I do agree that moving in silence is better and she has learned that as she has kept everything she does quiet now. But I believe she will continue to contribute as much as she can to changes even if it’s just one small change at a time.
Grace for Jennifer. The machine is undefeated. The industry takes in 18-year old Starbucks baristas and gives them a contract with the opportunity for massive sponsorship/endorsements deals. Cash a few checks, absorb a few painful hits from the hate train, and you give in to the machine.
She not justifying bullying, she's explaining why it's happening to those of us that don't keep up & what can be done to prevent it. But yes k-pop stans are toxic, lol
It all boils down to how kpop fans are massive liars when they claim they want authenticity and change. Any idol that actually tries to bring that is torn apart till their career is ruined or they commit. Its the same with live vocals. Yall say u want it, but only praise the "vocals" of lipsyncers and tear up actual live vocalists. The only "authentic" idol that survived afaik is bts but they dont even rlly count since they go against the idol model in a lot of ways and their career path was too different

Would you consider making a video on the RIIZE and Seunghan situation? I would really like to hear your thoughts on it. Love you as always ❤️
I don't think the comparison with BTS is fair at all. Not only is she way younger and has only been in the industry for 2 years while BTS has been active for 11, they have way more say and control over their careers than she could have at the moment. And it's not like BTS isn't still to this day, getting nitpicked and criticized by the kpop industry for the smallest and dumbest things despite all the changes and good things they have spearheaded. Like Yunjin, BTS are called inauthentic and performative by kpop stans. Also, are we really making 20 minute essays over an idol expressing her aspiration? Like many have already pointed out here, she said she WANTS to and never made any promises that she could do it in such a short period. I do agree however, that it'd be nice for her to have the talk show. But, to assume that she has no intentions of following through with the "image that she created" for just genuinely saying what she wants but not having been able to do much in 2 years like huh?? More importantly, the heartfelt essay she wrote on Weverse a few weeks back actually went semi-viral where she urged everyone to resist societal pressures to conform, especially from the internet and social media, and to embrace their authentic selves. She encouraged reconnecting with childhood passions and joys, reminding us that true fulfillment comes from being ourselves and pursuing what we love, rather than seeking external validation. These are just some of the comments in a Reddit thread discussing this that I copy-pasted: "i dont know anything about her but dear god i apperantly really needed to read this today. i am not a very emotional person but i almost teared up. thank you yunjin 🫂" "This is the last push I need to really get into le sserafim. I've enjoyed pretty much all their most popular releases but I've never sought out their content. this message really relates to me, I love when idols share genuine things like this. I'd love to support her more." So if that is not already a step into changing the industry then idk what is. And so what if she made that statement early on her career when she hasn't proven herself yet? It was actually bold and commendable but yall will just say anything now just to criticize and discredit her authenticity. So, young people can't be vocal about their dreams now? You guys are the very reason why these idols are terrified to speak themselves or break out of the mold. Criticisms from kpop stans (and ktubers hungry for engagement lol) are never going to go away, no matter what she does. And antis will just keep eating them up. Again, just like with BTS. But honestly, who cares? Their impact still remains. There are a lot of people out there who appreciate and think highly of Yunjin and are genuinely moved by her messages in her writing and her music. She is so young and has a lot to offer. This video means nothing. She has a bright career and future ahead of her.
Please show me an exact screenshot of yunjin saying she was going to change the industry because last time I checked wanting to do something and doing something are two different things
The thing is even if it wasnt a promise, its gonna be used by haters and even tired fans, when critism come up. If an expectation they have based on a direct comment like that does not show progress, and the company thru marketing add fuel to this, that can be used against. LSF is just 2yo group which is hard to make that impact is true, but that people dont consider it. Is fine to have desires and working for them, but saying some at the start of your carrer that direct, can make people expect more from you, so sometimes is better to be private.
the pronunciation of yunjin the whole way through the video 😭😭😔🙏🙏🙏 if you’re going to make a whole video essay on someone at least have the decency and respect of finding out how to pronounce their name correctly
you really keep her more accountable than the industry itself, like it's really sad and disappointing.like leave her alone, she herself said she was reflecting on that seeing the criticism coming with it. god forbid a young girl makes mistakes. and bringing up sully? that's so fucking low. How about you let her grow and let her learn how to do this change instead of constantly burying her and bullying her. So so sad.
When I watched your Katseye video, you said that kpop fans weren't ready for the groups to be more truthful, free... Just two moths later, you are doing exactly what you criticized, not hating nitpinking that freedom. Sakura opening up about her anxiety or Yunjin fearing the weight of her own desires (she literally said she wanted to, not that she did) is not a marketing disaster, it's reality. It would be interesting to focus more on WHY kpop fans hate so much to see the reality of the idols world.
It is a marketing disaster because people who are critizing the group aren't going to care because SHE signed up for the job. Singing AND dancing are part of the job. You can't expect people to pity you when you are getting millions of dollars and can't even do one job right.
@@timeless1882 Me, talking about how idols should be able to open up about their anxiety. You: I don't care, you get paid millions, stop crying... You're literally part of the problem, no one is saying she doesn't have to do her job (which she does btw) is the way y'all can't fathom how this type of comments have consequences. You, and me, and everyone can get anxious about their job, grow up a little please.
@@NedagarcíaI mean sure but unfortunately how they handled it would get more hate. It’s ridiculous but it happens to all celebrities not jsut kpop idols
@Nedagarcía Cool, I never said that. Stop putting words in my mouth. If you actually read my comment, you would have noticed I never used "I." I struggle with anxiety and depression and know how that feels. But in the real world, you have to grow up because not every boss is going to want to deal with that. Instead, they would replace you with someone who can get the job done. It sucks, but that's how it is. And begging people who don't have the same luxury for sympathy would, of course, annoy some people.
Just one thing regarding the video and 2 comments on topic. 1. Thank god there are subtitles... Please try speaking slower or just not slurring words so much 🙏 2. I lost interest in kpop around 2020, recently got into it again and I forgot how many kpop fans are idiots. ("omg it's been 2 years already, why didn't she change the kpop industry by now?" maybe apply some basic logic and stop having unrealistic expectations) 3. Part of the reason why changing kpop industry is basically undoable is that you think it's the industry that is at fault and needs to be changed but most issues exist solely because of fan expectations.

To be honest I think that her little contributions like 13:22 her song I≠Doll could have been used as her changing the industry through her music and expressing her thoughts through her music. I think Source music should definitely continue to encourage and release her solo songs with all the issues she thinks are problematic things in the industry. Like how different artists like use music to talk to the audiences (we can’t be friends by Ariana , Nice by Beyoncé and Jay-Z) these songs all express the relationship between them and and how they’re viewed without them ever talking about it. They just sing about it.
When she released that I immediately thought "oh okay, yes, she is starting to express herself through music" but after that... pretty much silence. It should have been used as a starting point and continued in that direction, slowly highlighting issues within the industry and bad experiences Yunjin had in more and more depth.
There's a whole video series about why one member of the group making an offhand comment and somehow not meeting. That is a huge problem? Videos like this just contribute to the hate train and it's disguised as something intellectual. This is not intellectual. This is just absolute garbage
This is constructive criticism. People will always have different opinions, and we are allowed to have and state them. If you have a problem with that, then never use social medias.
@@vixxexo6855 why though? Why are you pinning the entire responsibility of "changing the industry" on ONE idol, who is herself a victim of said industry? No video essays on SM/JYP/YG? When are *those* coming out?
Atp everybody is stretching the topic , we all know they are having a shitty year till now and I honestly don't feel like adding more criticism on someone's life who is already not the happiest atp. Whatever she said or did was not the biggest sin or crime let it pass with time , revisiting it and making a mountain out of mole during this time is not something I feel is the most sensible thing . The environment of kpop is as such that our one reasonable take can turn into a new reason for bullying .
I think this video is just explaining the hate to people who don't know & what she could do to prevent it. The video explain she was a child when she said it so maybe it was just enthusiasm idk but everglow is definitely not a hater
As a long time kpop fan let me tell you. The industry changed. Le Sserafim are able to do certain concepts becuase groups like 2ne1, Mamamoo, f(x) and more changed the industry. In current days idols are way more free in their image (healthy bodies, tan skin, sexy, tattos, unconventional beauties) than ever, they can almost be compared to western artists.
Ppl fail to understand that change is gradual and takes time not always fast. Her statement alone and songs could also reach the hearts of more changemakers who will be inspired and work towards change. Throughout history changes didn't happen quickly it became full blown with time. I don't even get why ppl are making her statement a big deal and punishing her for voicing out her wishes and goals.
@@Jade-iw3llthisss Change takes time. I understand the point of the video but its just been two years, Give her time and it was just her desire as an idol. People like hwasa did not come out the gate swinging with changes like she has done today.we sawjt overtime. Kpop stans don't give their idols grace to grow and are so impatient. I can understand this critique in 5 or 4 years But yunjin is still a rookie in this industry.
If you’re going to make an entire video essay on an idol the very least you can do if pronounce their name correctly. Yunjin (and Source Music) should not have put that statement in her debut video but no one can change the deeply embedded structure of kpop in just two years.
No matter how "innocent" the story is supposed to be, it just feels like more hate train on the group. It's like ok so Crazy did pretty damn good, So Let's try harder to bring them down. Every single article of this type even if it's biased towards the group in question, fires up the haters to try harder the next time. What she said was a goal... and she's right, the KPOP system frankly, sucks. Starving your artists, keeping their money until they "pay back" their training, etc. The worst is how the companies don't defend their employees. For example, Bullying... if you did that here in the States as a kid... NO ONE WOULD CARE. I get it, Korea has its system and has had it for hundreds of years... but when a court or employees say someone didn't do something, they shouldn't still have to hang their heads in shame and lose their careers. *Cough Soojin, Jmin, Garam, all of T-ARA Cough* Back to the point... K netizens grow up, get a life and stop bitching about what a 20-something says about her hopes and dreams. Yeah "Ooh, she's just a stupid spoiled American" SO WHAT? We think differently here because one person CAN change things here. Unfortunately, there is still that "she's a foreigner... she will need to learn that in Korea, she has no power here attitude that prevails. Well, hate the US or not, we think differently, and even though things are s**t here nowadays, we can still dream big... The K-pop company's glass ceiling can be broken... If enough groups get together and try to make things better for their artists... things CAN be changed... (Maybe a union...???) Yes, that's a bad word. How many more Sulli's and Hara's, will it take to wake the industry up and take care of their charges? I swear to God, the only company that seems to give a shit is Happyface/Dreamcatcher company. The industry should look at the system there because they seem to be doing things right. Dreamcatcher re-signing early, still dorming together, making first-class merch and some of the best CD boxes, giving them a fair mix of promotions and touring, etc. Most importantly they are all happy... VERY HAPPY. I have never seen a group of people laugh as much in my life. Everyone ships with one another, and their love for each other honestly feels real. Almost every group could have that if their companies would go to bat for them and treat their artists like human beings.... Happy artists make Happy fans and happy fans spend MONEY $$$$$. Hybe/Source, step up and protect your girl groups from negative shit like this... there are three girl groups there right now that could use some compassion and support. If you hate Le Sserafim or the members, fine... hate them, but we don't need to hear why or who. Just hate them in private... make your own "where did they hurt you" doll and put it in your closet. (make sure Chaewon and Yunjin are the ones you pick on... because they can handle it. Sakura and Kazhua have been at high places in the entertainment industry and don't need to be troubled by your pettiness, and Eunchae is still a minor... leave her the hell alone netizens. I despise a few members of various groups, and their superiors, even more ... but I'm not going to talk shit about them online because that may be someone's hero or inspiration. I have no right to tear them down and crush their fans, misguided as they may be. I'd be more than happy to debate my views with those fans who love their K-pop fandom enough to argue about it in an adult manner. My 2 cents. I'm old, I've been a musician and worked in the entertainment field since the late 80s... and my parents in the industry since the early 50s. I have spent my life immersed in the industry in one form or another... so I'm not just talking out of my ass.
This is also akin to Avril Lavigne. If you go back to her first big interview she was "anti" Britney Spears. She was a skater girl wearing baggy pants et al. Then once the industry took over, her image proceeded to turn her into something very similar to Britney. When I saw Avril dressed in a corset for the first time I thought, "was that her idea? did she actually have an inner desire to be Britney? or was she convinced by her handlers to do it for her career?". 🤔

I agree moving silently is the way to go, but it’s strange that with Americans not even doing that will keep the hater at bay. Chanelle from the redebuted fifty fifty, they projected themselves onto her while she was on RUNEXT and when she was revealed to be part of fifty fifty they turned on her. They said they were disappointed in her for joining when she had never spoken about her ideals or her morals or anything that would have told anyone what she truly thinks. Twitter stans were boycotting and she had a Twitter account 4 years ago so that means she more culpable than any of the other girls who also joined. It’s a weird thing to witness her getting the brunt of the hate for that.
I honestly LOVE Soyeon more than any other idol. I also love Hwasa. Her look is BEAUTIFUL, I think she’s honestly so much prettier than a ton of idols. Her voice tooooooo like bruh. I guarantee if a male idol said this y'all would be like "OMG HOW RELATABLE!!!" but because Yunjin is a woman, it's a problem. The double standards are disgusting. And for the millionth time, she said she WANTS to change the idol industry, not she WILL. People are allowed to want to do something, you're not the boss of them. Her song "I≠DOLL" literally talks about toxic and unrealistic standards for female kpop idols in a very explicit way. Name one other idol that has done that. I'm not even surprised you're justifying bullying, since you're a bully yourself, bullying Itzy and laughing at literal war crimes. yeah Yunjin can try to change the industry but she can't do this alone.
Male idols are given more grace and tend to be babied more.

just plain bad marketing from hybe's part lmao they shouldve used a more subtle phrase or something. i understand female idols being less and less opinionated due to the harsh backlash they always receive, but yunjin isn't even outspoken about anything at all, she has very western views and thats it?? marketing her as the change maker of kpop is certainly a really brave move from the company

Can you pls explain more about your condition? I'm not really familiar with it.
Ah yes AuDHD the golden variation of ADHD.
This ^ people don’t understand the level of planning these groups/companies do with their marketing and branding
i love yunjin, but she def bit off more than she could chew with her statement. yes, she said she WANTED to, but people are going to twist her words regardless so she ideally shouldnt have said anything regarding that at all

doing that would have TRULY CHANGED the idol industry
Ah, like Soyeon tried with Soojin? 😔 I'd say Stray Kids but there was no way they were going to boot off Hyunjin.

@@Nedagarcía I am kind of suspicious about that like I know in starting hybe denied all rumours and that as the things starts getting serious they should instantly release the documents regarding of the whole case like how garam left the group then she suddenly post all the legal documents that proof her innocence like it means that hybe also can provide a statement on this and garam could stay in the group.
All kpop groups are manufactured y'all singling out HYBE groups make me LAUGH.
@@Jade-iw3ll Only HYBE tries to market their groups as more "authentic" than the rest. NewJeans and especially BTS was marketed like this too
This exactly. HYBE uses her to tell fans that they are better than the rest of the industry, their idols will change something. But in the end, they still want their idols as their little dolls who behave.
Yeah Hybe really feels fake at times with things and are basically like SM but with some extra steps lol

But at least we see that yunjin is trying. Shes doing good writing and produce music
Where is the final blackpink Olympics video, it's been 84 years lol
People need to give her grace, she was literally a teenager when she made this statement, weather it was from her industry or her own persona. She’s still growing and unfortunately she’s learning that it’s she can’t fight against the machine that she’s part of. But the most important thing is authenticity. Even choosing the concept for the group came from the company and not the girls themselves. And i think what you suggested at the end works well… but only when she’s a well established veteran idol like bambam, or that guy from jyj
Uh, she was literally 20 or 21 when she made this statement. She was an adult.
@@Yointrovert oh lol, thought she was 18 or. 19. But regardless my point still stands, you don’t all of a sudden gain all the wisdom and knowledge of monk once you turn legal. We’re allowed to make mistakes and learn along the way

@@solliciteagere871 why should anyone face consequences for a statement like that? Do you guys have nothing else to do with you life?
@@vickmay3898 It's not should or shouldn't but rather that it happened. And I don't know who 'you guys' is but it's def not me. You should stop directing the fault at random people online that have nothing to do with her consequence of this but understand that it's a much bigger picture due to the image of herself and the expectations she created in other peoples' minds using that statement. Ofc there's going to be different opinions because she made such a bold statement. Usually idols don't make that kind of statement because then it means they'd have to live up to whatever people assume they should.
You DID NOT watch the video or even if you did you didn't understand
It seems like hybe is so misogynistic that their first girl group had to walk around with a sign "we're not like other girls!" for them to be worthy of investing on.
... This video sounds like both a hit towards source music for their marketing strategy and Yunjin for her too ambitious statement.
It's not the artist's fault the fans don't listen though? "I ≠ DOLL" exists for a reason and kpop fans don't listen for a reason as well
Just say u are stupid and move on
Her situation is why I respect Wonyoung so much.
Yes
0:23 doing all this mental gymnastics to justify bullying is kinda crazy. Kpop stans are and will always be the problem in cases like this

BTS said they'd never release an English song then released 3 of them in a row. Jungkook is still feeding his fans' delusions by telling them they're his GF. How are they authentic? Lmao
@@suhkawnit the gf thing is obviously a silly joke and anyone that believes it needs a hospital. As for the english thing, i dont see why celebrities arent allowed to grow and change their goals the same way other people are. Theres something inherently xenophobic about thinking kpop idols can only make songs in korean. Bts have a much bigger international audience now than they did when they first believed theyd never make english music, but now they have a much bigger fanbase to reach (and wanted to comfort by releasing the eng trilogy during COVID) but notice how the majority of their music is still very much korean. 400+ songs and only 3 in english got yall questioning their nationality and authenticity
@@suhkawnittldr neither of the things you said have anything to do with authenticity. They are authentic because they actually follow what they say and write about with their actions and journey, instead of just playing a character or using serious things as "concepts" and aesthetics. Their social work and philanthropy isnt just unparalleled in kpop sphere but even among global stars.
They are also authentic as musicians and performers who have never once lipsynced in their entire career and even when theyve lost their voices from illness would rather let the crowd sing for them then do something that betrays the core spirit of music like lipsync does
@@boredkueen8784 follow what they say 💀💀💀 they straight up lied about not making English songs to please the Western audiences. They aren’t even the primary writers of most of their songs. Look through their song credits. Their company just MARKETED them extremely well as more authentic to gullible idiots like you because that’s what sells in the West. Just like they tried to do with Yunjin.

Trying to push the narrative that bts dont write the majority of their songs is assine and the ultimate proof you dont know what youre talking about when theres hours and hours of vlive footage of rm breaking down every line of every song and why he wrote it, something pretty much no other kpop group could ever do.
These are just some of the comments in a Reddit thread discussing this that I copy-pasted:
"i dont know anything about her but dear god i apperantly really needed to read this today. i am not a very emotional person but i almost teared up. thank you yunjin 🫂"
"This is the last push I need to really get into le sserafim. I've enjoyed pretty much all their most popular releases but I've never sought out their content. this message really relates to me, I love when idols share genuine things like this. I'd love to support her more."
So if that is not already a step into changing the industry then idk what is.

Nm you're an exol I'm not surprised you didn't understand
miss ur vids ❤
We can still criticize let’s be real. The hate would still exist regardless

Change takes time.
I understand the point of the video but its just been two years,
Give her time and it was just her desire as an idol.
People like hwasa did not come out the gate swinging with changes like she has done today.we sawjt overtime.
Kpop stans don't give their idols grace to grow and are so impatient.
I can understand this critique in 5 or 4 years
But yunjin is still a rookie in this industry.
Another thing now is that with the steps Newjeans have taken, people have started to compare them and criticise them
If you’re going to make an entire video essay on an idol the very least you can do if pronounce their name correctly.
*Cough Soojin, Jmin, Garam, all of T-ARA Cough*
Back to the point...
That variety show idea is actually genius. I would definitely watch that.
i haven’t finished the video but from what i’ve got is that she’s not as conservative as korea is, from what i’ve heard korea is quite conservative. idk but she’s an ally, which i haven’t heard many kpop idols talk so positively w the lgbt community. she has the right vision, i hope she keeps going i love her sm
Every single one of you talking shit about kpop idols needs to get a reality check. None of you have experienced what its like to be a kpop idol, the entertainment industry is way more harsh than you guys think it is. And lets be honest if someone is to judge these idols then it should be soemone who is experienced in that field someone who maybe is a ex kpop idol or maybe an actor or someone who used to work in the entertainment industry NOT people who sit behind a screen doing nothing
Idc who talks shit about le sserafim but i think they are definitely doing great
Yunjin wanted to change the industry.
Plus you guys hate on idols but after they leave and the truth comes out or they *ill themselves you guys act like yall did nothing and yall crying n everything, YOU dont have the right to cry for a person u hated on before
LOUDER FOR THE PEOPLE IN THE BACK
Freedom of speech!!!
why is no one talking about the quality of the thumbnails
THEY ARE STUNNINGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG
thank you 🩷🎀
I agree moving silently is the way to go, but it’s strange that with Americans not even doing that will keep the hater at bay.
So glad to be early ❤
That WAS a great suggestion for Hyunjin!!! Love it!
also i think she was the only one who said something on the debut teasers. hybe set up my girl so bad 😕
When did this channel become so full of negativity?
@@merla692 They've always been negative, but now the fame got to them and now they're just a bully
I think rather than posting stupid and rage bait videos like this, you should go back on making videos about stage presence lol
it's pronounced yoon-jin lol
THANK YOU‼️‼️ it was driving me nuts too
What did you think of Tzuyu solo debut Run away? 🤔
I honestly LOVE Soyeon more than any other idol. I also love Hwasa. Her look is BEAUTIFUL, I think she’s honestly so much prettier than a ton of idols. Her voice tooooooo like bruh.
Soyeon is so skilled. I can’t even say how many things I love about her
FUN FACT Yunjin sung at the theatre my I was a company member of / it was our theatre for ballets! Small world!
If you people hate Le Sserafim so much then stop listening to them and interacting with their content, move on with your life. Y'all are bigger Fearnots than I am with the way you're obsessed with spreading misinformation about these poor girls
That's so true. Also, something that I've noticed from this channel is that they always seem to target female idols.
@itsrainingcaratzens Why is it that Fearnots believe LSF is the only group/artists being "real"? Dang near every song of theirs is surface level.😓
@@itoo4884 Nobody believes anything like that... don't even try to put words in my mouth
I 100% agree with everything you just said, a member of skz literally said the same thing yet its crickets on his side because he is a HE.
bangchan said the same thing but they came for his neck too
yeah Yunjin can try to change the industry but she can't do this alone. The ones who can truly change the industry are the consumers aka the fans. everyone's complaining about evil corporations and issues like debuting minors etc. but at the same time giving up their money to the same shady companies. they aren't gonna change their ways if it is profitable 🤷♀
Hii cheryl Are you doing the everglow up awards this year?
Videos like this are part of the reason no idol will be able to "change the industry". Just click bait for likes on the Internet hope those 5cents make you happy or whatever.
When is the next blackpink olympics video coming out?
