Brutally honest statements about residency. Don't think people who want to go to med school know how awful the training conditions are, just the status and the excitement of medicine. It is a Game of Thrones, and you have to wonder about why your doctor was willing to be abused during training. Doesn't make them more sympathetic to your unwillingness to tolerate pain, distress, discomfort, and being treated badly. IF THEY DID IT, SO CAN YOU. If you refuse to tolerate any of that, not only do they question you, but they reflect on their own life and feel badly about themselves. NOBODY likes someone that makes you feel badly about yourself, even if you deserve it. Beware of this from traditionally trained providers of all types, including nurses.
My wife was once cabin crew. She said that more cabin crew were involved in car crashes on way home after long shift than ever had accidents in planes.
Responding to the 1hr 10min discussion of teens being chastised for sleeping late on weekends: Teens often stay up late with computer games without wearing blue-blockers which very much stimulates their brain to stay awake
18:00 if you are dieting, absolute basic rule: good sleep. Diet and bad sleep are raising cortisol way up: catabolism and glycolyse instead of protection of lean mass and fat burning. 46:00 cancer: extreme focus on therapeutic details, experts being oblivious of two huge cancer growth promoting factors: a cortisol and adrenaline tsunami and loss of sleep (i remember lively my brother in such a state) 01:24:00 anticipatory effect of waking up to swipe up the ipad being then overflowed by anxiety raising contents: less typ 3 4 deep sleep during the night before. Repeat, each day. Measure no digital media in the first hours of the morning! 01:50:00 Sleeping pills raising risk of death, occurrence of cancer.. (these pills induce only loss of consciousness without the actual biological state of sleep) Behavior and mindset during the day, over days, for coming back and staying onto the parasympathetic mode. (Hypercortisol down). Messing with the circadian rhythm raises at once cortisol. Effect can last several days
Why we get cancer as we age? I suspect that melatonin levels is part of the answer. Calcification of the pineal gland greatly reduces circulating melatonin. The vast majority of melatonin is within every mitochondria in our body and has the ability to change the phenotype of a cancer cell into a normal phenotype at night, however blue light at night instantaneously suppresses the ability for melatonin to slow the growth or stop metastasizing of the cancer. Circadian disruption by blue light at night needs to be taken seriously.
A point that wasn’t made regarding schools: many school districts start early-end early for older kids: many older kids baby sit the younger kids because the younger kids get let out later.
How do you balance the increase in cortisol and norepinephrine and lack of sleep during extended fasting with the stat Matthew Walker talks about losing 70% of calories burned during sleep from lean muscle in sleep deprivation? In light of that, for weight loss purposes would it be more idea to keep to 48-72 hours, taking things like GABA to help sleep, ensuring you sleep for 7-9hrs especially during this time and maybe applying meditation or being conscious of lowering stress variables from your environment during this time?
Seems like moralists who boast about being too busy to sleep can’t hear anything you say about sleep deprivation because it bolsters their sense of entitlement
this talk changed my life. big fan of both attia and walker. thank you gentlemen.

‘Blue blockers’ are just a cop out imo
Simply no electronics after dinner time and see the difference to sleep

There is no end to the general harm and deleterious effects of the main stream medical practice.. sedative pills for developing brains... 😱
Later start time for school promises to be very beneficial for the student. Why couldn't we experiment with that now during covid times?

Just eat dinner
Peter, why do you think Matthew's book is the favorite of your not-yet-two-year-old son?
The moon on the cover
I need to work on my fluid intake in regards to waking up to go to the bathroom. At least 2 times during the night and I’m almost 50!
Peter takes himself way too seriously and turns every tiny bit about him.
