I have a Toro Wheel Horse with the 'key choice' key switch under the front of the seat. The switch broke, and it turns out it's just a momentary on switch. I like the feature, so all I did was change it to a 'normally open - momentary on' push button. Worked like a champ!
I just bought the ZT1 50 2023 I'm glad mine doesn't shut off like this. They must have changed something. That Kawasaki motor is a beast run so smooth.
Thank you for this info! I wanted to disable that switch anyway, partially because that clutch has a set number of cycles on it and I don't want to waste them. My mower is a little different (probably older) but it worked.
Just make sure the wiring harness is still firmly seated in the switch. Mine came loose and I didn't know it was that connector because it looked like it was connected (I work in Quality, I just had to do the push-pull test 🙄). The PTO wouldn't engage without that plugged in (but the clutch and switch both tested ok), so I got long leads and took both fenders off to start testing wiring, and that was the first thing I checked.
Just got a RZT-L with PTO reverse cut out. Tantamount to the OSHA cowboy. WHY would any one want to back up and have to re engage the PTO every time???? The seat drop out I understand... Thanks for showing me where the NO switch is located and going step by step through the cover removal. Excellent training video. When I hear terms like this I know you at least can read a schematic. A big thumbs up.
I believe a number of people have backed over small children with blades spinning. this system still allows you to back over them but have a higher survival. Just did this to mine last year because of this video. Works great. But now My Rtz 50 says the parking break is not pressed in. How do I bypass that switch? Or can I?
Bought an old mower and the switches are missing entirely but wiring harness/plug for switches are still there. I dont want to buy the switches so how could I create a closed loop or whatever without having switches in place?

Why do these PTO in Reverse switches even exist? I've been using my neighbor's Toro Z Master 62" commercial and then acquired my own Cub Cadet RZTL42. I thought it was broken. Now I can't do proper turns without shutting the mower off and back on again. Having to do this 30+ times per mow is a HORRENDOUS experience.

I have a toro 74265 mower and all of the suddend. All of the safety's are disabled. What would cause it a ground or the stop switch on the diesel mower
I don’t think you can. The mower depends on it being on to turn on the mower and off to engage the the steering so it requires both settings to function.
Just did mine today it is much easier to just do the one by the gas tank side you can just lay down on your back it is literally one screw that holds the switch in. No need to do all that other stuff thanks for the video.

Got a question for ya if you got the time on a electric push mower I'm trying to bypass a safety switch and install a potentiometer so I can adjust the rpm of the blade is this something that's possible I'm having difficulties getting around it with the motor sparking and smoking and I don't think I can install one after the switch because it monitors the voltage and that's how the speed would be changed Any help at all would be amazing I can not find a thing about bypassing it
I had a short somewhere in my wiring harness, ( I think) I completely removed it for close inspection, I still see no bare wires. Thinking of just buying a new complete harness for $148, do you have any suggestions as to where else I might check before buying a new harness, I have replaced the PTO switch & both lapbar interlocks, I isolated the Mag Clutch, by disconnecting it, also the seat, & lights, just don 't know where else to look. Thanks!
@@TightWadDIY Thank You for your response. Yes the engine starts and runs good. When I pull up the PTO or pull in either Lap Bar the engine bogs down and dies, blows the 20 Amp fuse. I have disconnected the wire clip going to the mag clutch, the front lights & seat, it still does same thing, I have looked for a naked or crimped wire, don't see any. I completely removed the wiring harness, and the split black covers for close inspection, don't find anything, put it all back on, same problem. I have also replaced the PTO switch and both safety interlock switches. I think it is a short some where, perhaps concealed within the harness. The only thing I haven't changed is the solnode and key ignition switch. Any suggestions or testing means would be appreciated. Thanks again.
@@doylejohnson8688 It it was just the PTO bogging down I would say you have something binding on your deck but if it does the same thing when lifting the lap bars I’m not really sure.

What part number is that safety switch for reverse? I replaced the 2 visible switches that the handles rest in their cradles already.
