As an adult I can agree that Ghouls Rule is just too chaotic and messy, however as a kid I LOVED it because there were so many things happening it kept my short attention span engaged

@@bibibirdie Yh, her and Astronova were two characters who new about both worlds. Apparently, we were even supposed to have a fox character introduced in the crossover. It would've been so cool!

@@clackle_ yh, the legend of shadow high. I did enjoy that book but that was a crossover between EAH and the gen 2 MH. Since the crossover between EAH and the original MH is the one that was teased so much and so anticipated I still think it's a shame we never got the crossover between them and the originals. But I still thought the book was nice.

My biggest issue with Monster High is that they keep saying Frankie is 15 days old, but that can only be true once. Every day that passes, she ages a day, unless the entirity on Monster High is somehow taking place on her first day of school.
Actually the age info entry for Frankie eventually changes to her writing “How many days has it been now?” indicating she lost count a long time ago. I can’t say exactly which line started it but I think it was in one of her later Diaries.
It wasn't until I actually read Frankenstein in Highschool did I realize that certain jokes about Frankie's character directly referenced her father’s story lol. Like Frankie reading magazines to fit in with monster society. was supposed to parallel with Frankenstein's monster reading books to fit in better with human society! I kinda wish they had expanded on Frankie's family dynamic and relationship with her parents. We didn't even get to see them. We only see Frankie's father’s portrait a few times in the Monster High movies.
Also the philosophical side of Frankenstein's monster really parallels nicely with Frankie wanting everyone to be loved and accepted.
Frankie's story REALLY should be expanded upon.
I always felt disappointed that Frankie lost relevance as the movies went on, especially being the new ghoul at school.
Personally I like it because after a while younger me got really tired of her. I appreciate her as a character now but I think it was the right decision focusing on other characters, I only wish Lagoona was written better because I remember loving her character in the webisodes and she had potential that never got realized
@@Ghv5t I was angry with how she did Hoodude, but I really enjoyed her overall. She was the "normal" one, in contrast to haughty Cleo, fierce Howleen, flighty Draculaura, wise Lagoona, and nerdy Ghoulia.

@@Ghv5t My biggest issue was the fact that she was new to the world--which isn't even consistent: for a while she claimed to literally be 15 days old, followed by a birthday turning 16. They should've omittrd that, imo. I wasn't crazy with how relationships were made by the writers, only and tossed aside: shee made Hoodude to be in love with her, only to toss him aside, and when it turned out he was alive, he was now "creepy" and kicked out of the house because her parents were worried for her safety. Then she lied about Deuce and only apologized to Cleo (I think), and her stuff with Andy was forgotten about and her bond with Jackson was never cemented fully. I'm a Neighthan/Frankie shipper, myself.
Personally, when they kicked Lagoona off, it would've been nice to see her become the wise friend, or another nerdy friend like Ghoulia.

I always headcannoned Clawdeen as aroace when I watched Ghouls rule. We desperately need more characters on the aroace spectrum.
I always knew she was straight since sometimes "girl" shows will try to make one of the MCs single, but I'm surprised with all the fan headcanons of her being LGBT that she wasn't made so in Gen 3.

@@OpticalSorcerer The topic of witchcraft in G3 was rather interesting to me since given the monsters' pre-established prejudice and bigotry against humans; making witches a human thing was a natural direction to go in and further expands upon the monsters vs humans conflict

15:45 in Ghouls rule they literally have the main villain Van hellscream bump into Cleo in the sewers and they get close to each other hence why she feels bad for what they’re gonna do to Holt later
True, but that happens after Holt's execution was announced, so that doesn't really correlate with what I brought up.
It’s shown in Why Do Ghouls Fall In Love that Valentine’s magic still had some lingering affects on her. It took him a while to even get her to fall for him deeper because he underestimated how much she cared about Clawd.
Basically, she was stuck lining over her ex because of his magic and it took Clawd’s gift to break her free of it for good.
ngl this made me realize that i only liked most of the monster high movies i liked as a kid bcs i rlly enjoyed the new character designs lol
I love G1 especially with the fashion,story and characters but here are the things i disliked with G1.
1. Either too many characters or the same characters are being used. I like Frankie,Draculara and Clawdeen, dont get me wrong but they could of used more interesting characters. The characters come to mind are Venus,Ghulia,Opporetta, Spectra,Robecca,Rochelle,Twyla and Howleen.
2. All the male characters are either Love intrests to the Ghules or goofy. I know this series is technically for girls but MH has male fans too and considering that its a ALT fashion line I'd say they could of made more male characters.
3.The stucture of the series. I feel like if they had a coherent timeline between the web series and the movies,i feel like there would be less plot holes and Great scarier reef would of been better.
4. Great Scarier Reef should have had an entire different plot altogether. It could of been like an Environmental movie. Venus would be centered staged and get more of a personality.
Mega agree on the second point!!! I remember the minute jackson/holt stopped being a love interest for Frankie, his screen time diminished massively. I was also surprised how undermined Deuce and Clawd were despite literally being the boyfriends of the main ghouls and showing up countless times???

I've never understood why freaky fusion got so much hate, it was my absolute fav doll line as a kid and i honestly like the movie alot even now!
also Haunted is my fav doll line overall and i want every single doll someday. the movie is the most visually interesting to me as well.

Monster High was 95% of my life between the ages of 11-17 and I watched every movie at least twenty times each. Here’s my ranking:
1. Scaris (There is nothing I don’t like about it. The music especially is just perfect. Rochelle and Garrot is my favorite fictional couple of all time. Heath wears a skirt twice and it’s not played as a joke, which is fun!)
2. Freaky Fusion (Frankie’s sacrifice was peak emotional writing to me as a teen.)
3. 13 Wishes (Fun fact: I faked being sick so that I could stay home from 8th grade to watch this movie the day it released. When Dad found out, he cracked the disk in half and I had to buy a new one. On the movie front, I also disliked the Gil and Lagoona drama but liked Howleen being the focus.)
4. Frights Camera Action (Hard carried by the new characters. Elissabat especially.)
5. Boo York Boo York (The songs carry the fun of the movie, even if they only had two singers. Nefera is always a welcome addition to the cast.)
6. Ghouls Rule (It’s a little bit of a mess, but Jackson was a blast and I think I had a little crush on Claire tbh.)
7. Haunted (I’ve seen this one the second least. Kiyomi was a standout character in the movie, and I think I had a crush on her too in retrospect. The villain was pretty interesting too because she was largely super evil unlike Wisp or even Ghostier. Porter and Spectra were unexpected but welcome.)
7. Escape From Skull Shores (Fine. Not bad by any means, but not a stand out.)
8. Friday Night Frights (The sexism bothered me even as a kid, and the designs of the girls’ terrible skate gear. Those kneepads aren’t protecting anything and the outfits are wildly unreasonable.)
9. Why do Ghouls Fall In Love? (CLAWD DOESN’T HAVE FANGS and it’s all I can focus on.)
10. New Ghoul @ School (Visually, it’s.. Meh. It’s the weakest character-wise.)
11. Fright On! (Vampires VS Werewolves was overdone by the time the movie came out. Blah.)
12. Great Scarrier Reef (I watched this one the least because I did not like it. Genuinely a bad movie that had all the faults of early 2000s Barbie movies with none of the charm. Kala is a cool design, and Peri&Pearl was a doll unlike any before or since. But man, I did not have fun during the watch. Why is Lagoona a mermaid? Where did her stage fright come from? Why do we need the little seahorse mermaids? Everything is too bright. And seriously, Kelpie isn’t a mermaid, so why is Lagoona?!)

I completely agree on your critism on friday night frights. It always bothered me. At the same time it's 2nd Place in my ranking because I love rollerblading and the Game looked like so much fun. Also Some of my Favorite Characters are Robecca, Operetta, Lagoona, Clawdeen and Rochelle so naturally I love this Movie
I love freaky fusion it really shows the character development for Frankie Stein and a new upgrade for her, and it shows that love is more natural feeling than technology

13 wishes draculaura was my first doll, this movie has a special place in my heart🤍
-Monster High G1 completely passed me by back in the early 2010s because of my MLP G4 obsession. But I have been going through all of the movies and I only have three of them left to go.
- 13 Wishes is one of those films that I really wanted to like and if it wasn't for the orientalism, that movie could've been on-par with Bionicle 3: Web of Shadows(2005) in my humble opinion

I was such a Monster High fan as a kid, and I didn't remember much about the movies so watching this video made me come back to my childhood
I think Haunted was my favorite, I watched that movie many times and I love ghosts so I knew it was bound to have me biased. Also I love Porter in that movie his character is amazing. I also love River Styx, her design is beautiful.

Ngl….this is a solid list. The top 5 movies are movies that in general all us G1 lovers would agree to, me personally would have Haunted over Freaky Fusion (the fusion reason you used was exactly why I’d rank it 2 while Haunted’s overall casting and plot is why I’d rank it 1). I remember when Scarier Reef was coming out I was so excited just to be more and more disappointed as I watched it as a kid. It had no business being this bad especially with the same race issue between Lagoona and Gil being on the back of my mind (lagoona’s family and ex best friend was more interesting than her imo). Boo York imo deserved 7th because despite being over populated (AND A MUSICAL I am not a fan of musicals) I liked 4 songs (Search Inside [as a writer and musician I really relate] Empire [cause who doesn’t like this song] Steal the Show [Luna Mothews bridge verse is my favorite part of it] and Shooting Stars [it was a vibe for me genuinely] Boo York Boo York was okay but it would be 5th on the list). Anyways solid list.

My ONLY problem with Freaky Fusion is that the plot is literally the ghouls figuring out how to share one body and Jackson Jekyll and Holt Hyde are NOWHERE to be found. Sharing one body and living two lives while having clashing personalties is their whole thing and Monster High barely does anything with it outside of the webisodes. If you ask me, Freaky Fusion would have been the perfect movie for their dynamic to be explored, granted it would shift other plots around but come on, he is right there and they are asking a zombie unicorn for therapy.
absolutely agree 100%. They did Jackson and Holt so dirty by not featuring them in Freaky Fusion, they were so more relevant to the ‘fusion’ than the hybrids, there were so many good possibilités by including Jackson and Holt into the story. We were robbed.

My favourite Monster High movie is Draculaura's 1600 birthday 'Why do ghouls fall in love'
Omg this video gives me so much nostalgia (I think my favourite movie was either like haunted or 13 wishes tbh wait freaky fusion was good too I also nvm I just remembered the draculara one where she goes to Hollywood, that's the best one) tbh I wouldn't be able to decide between the movies because there's also boo York so uh (I watched too much monster high movies as a kid smh)

13 Monster High: Escape From Skull Shores (The only one I don't like, boring and with wasted potential)
12 Monster High: New Ghoul At School (Movie that looks more like an extended episode of the web series, this is how it is summarized)
11 Monster High: Fright On (The same as the previous one, although with a funnier plot)
10 Monster High: Ghouls Rule (It can be boring in some parts, but to tell the truth it is very well written)
9 Monster High: Great Scarrier Reef (It's on par with Ghouls Rule, I find this one more fun than the previous one, but it's worse written, I still prefer plot holes than boredom)
8 Monster High: Boo York (I usually don't like musicals very much, but this one isn't bad)
7 Monster High: Haunted (It won't be one of my favorites, but I love its animation and its villain)

what I find disappointing for Ghoul’s Rule is that Draculaura and Clawdeen offered *NOTHING* to the plot yet they both got new dolls for this movie. Spectra and Operetta on the other hand helped Frankie find the hall of halloween and even saw themselves with new outfits which should’ve been a new doll for them, with Spectra helping even more by finding out who’s hacking Holt’s account (maybe this is just my bias talking because Spectra is my favorite MH character)

As a mixed girl, I'm surprised you didn't like when monster high mixed the two schools. For me it felt like a metaphor for segregation and racism as a kid. Especially since I saw both sides of hate as a kid. I think Vampires were supposed to be "white" in this situation and more of the instigators. Although its not really handled the best, it was ground breaking to me as a kid.
And even though Lagoonas relationship is extremely repetitive and doesn't have any resolve, its a great example of mixed relationships. I feel like Monster high is one of the best series out there because it tackles serious problems like racism and sexism in a kid friendly way that was still relatable. I feel like the only thing they were missing was an LGBT episode. Which is attempted in Gen 3, but just.. failed lmao.
The Astra Nova cliffhanger has always bothered me with the implication that the EAH characters didn’t believe that Monster High existed despite C.A. Cupid living among them for at least a year. Cupid in the EAH characters’ perspective literally just appears one day at school with no explanation and none of them ask questions about who she is or where she comes from since they all know each other so well that they know every little detail about each other’s stories? Did Cupid never mention MH or her past life? Or even accidentally slip some of the monster slang into her conversations for a while after transferring?
As for Great Scarrier Reef, I think it should have been an environmental awareness movie that featured Venus in the cast instead of Clawdeen and the plot be about something or someone polluting Lagoona’s home and the coral dying. This way Venus gets to have a significant role in a movie using her environmental protection interest be a major plot line that fits with a real life location that is actually suffering from pollution and habitat destruction.

I'd rather hear you talk about the Monster High G3 animated series than the live-action films. The series uses the characters very well and the stories they tell are much deeper and more sensitive than in the films.
Brawns: clawdeen, lagoona, and abbey.
Brains: frankie, ghoulia, and operetta.
Beauty: draculaura, cleo, and spectra.

They should make the reboot based on the Ever After High books by Shannon Hale. They provide EXCELLENT insight into the character's backstories and motivations!

Why wasn't Mouscedes King at Ever After High? Her story is literally based off a Fairytale! SHE should have been the one talking to Raven and Apple at the end of the Boo York movie instead of Astranova! It would make sense.

The first G3 film I have seen, and I actually really liked it for the presentation alone.
There’s some creative decisions that might bother a long time fan but I looked past it just because they did give a pretty good story with great musical numbers, and it just looks great

i agree with most of your list! i would flip some around, but i agree otherwise. this is a very amazing ranking of the movies, and it was very fun to watch. I am also a big fan of twyla in all generations of monster high, and also i realized my current pfp as of posting this comment is from the same movie as yours! wow! :o also, i would put boo york and 13 wishes and haunted higher up. i love the songs and characters in boo york, but yes, i do feel like there are so so so many new characters and plot lines in it.. it is very confusing! but i do love some of the new characters like Elle though. i love musicals!! i also really agree with what you said about scarier reef. i also would put scaris, skull shores, and one other that I’m currently blanking out on higher as well. i also would recommend you watching the live actions if you haven’t watched them already. i see so many people hate on it, while i think they are pretty good once you get like ten to twenty minutes in. i also love the g3 cartoon. have an amazing day! :)

I really think more people should try to watch the live action movies. They captured the mystery and cartoonish heart of these originals and i think they did a decent job. the traitor did it dirty by not showcaseing that aspect.
