Honestly, for a show marketed mainly for guys, Jack & Kim probably were one of the best slow burning relationships I’ve seen in the Disney Channel

I kind of stopped watching after Kim left and Olivia Holt went to Disney Channel for "I Didn't Do It"; I started watching that show and her movie "Girl vs monster. It's still cringey but I like it

Same here! I remember watching this show at some point in my childhood and going 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩.
Kim was a real inspiration for me because during that time, I was doing karate as well. I felt the need to be a tomboy because I was one of the only three girls in my entire karate class. But watching Kim be herself made me understand that I didn't NEED to be a tomboy to study karate among boys. Most of all, it made me feel happy and represented when I saw a badass, karate-loving girl like me on TV.
Some things you missed:
-The director in the episode The Commercial (which you skipped) is played by Jonathan Kite, who is best known as Oleg in 2 Broke Girls.
-After I Didn’t Do It, Austin North would go on to star on the Netflix teen drama Outer Banks as Topper.
-The character Grace is played by Jim O’Doherty’s daughter who is also named Grace.
-The Willy Wonka song being parodied in Eddie Cries Uncle was Pure Imagination.
-There was a character named Mika who was Phil’s niece who appeared in 3 episodes Season 2. She was played by Oana Gregory who is a Romanian actress best known as the older sister Amanda on Crash & Bernstein. The episode Wedding Crashers which she was in and her first of two Lab Rats episodes both aired on the same day that Crash & Bernstein premiered.
-Leona, the woman Bobby was engaged to in Wedding Crashers is played by former Bond Girl Denise Richards.
-The principal in Dojo Day Care is Jim Meskimen, who has voiced Ultron in various Marvel projects and is the current voice of the Genie in Aladdin.
-A mailman in the two-parter was played by Reuben Langdon, the English voice actor of Dante from Devil May Cry and Ken from Street Fighter.
-Speaking of Street Fighter the sumo from the second episode played E. Honda in the 1994 live-action movie.
-Troy Romzek, who played Kai, is Omar from the Zeke & Luther episode Zeke & Lu’s New Crew.
-Tony Cavalero, who played Dewey Finn in the School of Rock sitcom, appeared in the episode Seaford Hustle (which was unfortunately snubbed). Katherine McNamara who was in Girl vs. Monster plays Claire.
-One of the monks in the Chosen One (which was not mentioned) is played by James Sie who stood in for Jackie Chan in Jackie Chan Adventures and the Kung Fu Panda cartoon, while Zang Lu, the evil monk, is James Ryen, who played CJ Stone on Zeke and Luther and Megahertz on Mighty Med.
Speaking of Oana Gregory, did she, as Amanda, not put on a thick Romanian accent when getting into character in the episode where they were trying to make a movie?

Honestly, I just think it’s easier to sell things to young girls. There’s a broader market of merch that can be made & it’s often seen as more ‘acceptable’ in society for girls to own a lot of stuff moreso than boys.

Having a real karate kid as the lead made the show a lot better especially for older kids or people rewatching
With Kickin’ It, I found it so strange how the show changed with a majority of the main cast left the show and the change of direction.

i love kickin it but the way they just threw away eddie like that really put a bad taste in my mouth (i am aware the actor left the show bf anyone tries to argue with me on that) like eddie never was mentioned again but also seeing how the series did not change with his absent (until season 4 when kim left) goes to show he wasn’t a priority when it came to the main cast.

Kim being girly was a nice change to see, especially since it was in the era of 'not like other girls' being the popular personality choice for female leads. Its cool for a girl to be portrayed as someone who is both into sports AND being girly.

The episode with Leo and booboo is so good, and shows how good the show could get with well trained karate/martial arts characters. They’re both on the same similar level with made the visuals so much better.
I think Boo-boo should’ve returned in another episode along with maybe clashing in another show 😢
Low-key kinda upset we didn't get the game show episode, which Eddie wins btw, imo it was a neat little episode that has some funny moments, Jerry and Jack kill it as always, and was overall a top 5 episode for me as a kid
I was very disappointed he left that one out. Also the Kung Fu Cop episode, the Walking Dead parody, and the Hunger Games parody.

I honestly think most of the Disney XD shows could've saved Disney Channel from their bad reputation for making generic sitcoms if they were Disney Channel originals instead. And Aaron Stone, Mighty Med, Motorcity, Tron Uprising and Spectacular Spiderman are overdue for proper finales.
Anyway, this video AND Caitlin Mckillop's Austin and Ally video are worth getting behind on the Podco shows that refuse to take breaks even during the strikes or the holidays!

3:44:18 While I agree Eddie did seem to feel like an afterthought at times, I wouldnt say he didn't have a character. He was always supposed to be the "mamas boy" of the group. I think the two episodes that show that off best are Reality fights where he was the only one that didn't seem to let the fame get to them (even with the twist at the end) and Indiana Eddie where he wants to be an archeologist even if everyone else thinks it is ridiculous he still believes in being one. While him leaving in season 3 was not that big a loss as his character was not as strong as the rest, I think them deciding to never mention him at all as if he was never there was a dumb move. Like I swear I remember a clipshow episode in season 4 where because they couldnt use clips of Eddie all the footage was from s3 and s4 only.
Looking forward to part 2 seeing what u think of the later seasons this was one of my favorite sitcoms with a kid alongside I’m In The Band. (Idc what people say that show is peak)
I loved reality fights for him. They utilized his "just there" energy seamlessly there. It's immensely satisfying that not only does he win but the rest of the gang give him props for being strategic the whole time. Honestly wholesome as heck
He reminds me when Gunther's actor in Shake It Up didn't show up in season 3 and wasn't even mentioned in the finale recape.
Oh not even in series recap clips? That leads me to think they just couldn't show any footage with him there cause of contract reasons involving using any stuff he was present after he willingly left for school and desire for a more private life and not anything malicious. I think the reason Jason earls is usually paired with adults is bc when he had to play on Hannah Montana he had to constantly act around kids. So I’m pretty sure in his contract he specified he needed to also be with adult actors. Which is why the B plots always seems so shoe horned in.

As someone who only watched about two or three episodes of this show, I now wish young me had given it a chance! Based on this video, this group’s friendship seems a lot healthier than the ones in other kid sitcoms from this era. Like, there isn’t that one character who is technically in the friend group but is constantly treated like an outcast because they’re nerdy or considered unattractive. Also, I like that Jack, who is generally good at most things, is still really likable since he isn’t a jerk about it. Great video Mr. Nostalgia! 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾

24:10 I have to disagree. As someone who did martial arts when I was younger, it’s very hard to hit those or push them over. They’re weighted at the bottom and made of hard plastic, so the fact that she was able to knock those over with a single strike is pretty impressive, especially for a middle schooler
And I think they even contrasted early in the episode when Milton was knocked by it after punching it, so they must be hard and heavy

If I had to describe Eddie as a character, I would say he's the Average Joe & the most normal out of the other character. He's basically the Winston (Ghostbusters) of the show.
Sad he wasn't so defined, but if I had a chance to rewrite his character, I would make him The Heart of the group who always brings everyone together. You see the other character argue in the show, they could've made Eddie give them moral support to solve their conflict with one another
Honestly all I remember from the show was the theme, being surprised that Leo finally got a lead role after Leo Little’s Big show was on for a while, and I thought Olivia was cute lol
zeke and luther and pair of kings were great, but imo zeke and luther is one of the best disney shows

@@MrNostalgia I always felt that some shows have a certain vibe that a different TH-camr would be equipped to handle. Henry Danger is very much a Quinton show because of his expertise in the Schneiderverse. The Thundermans and K.C. Undercover are clearly Keyan shows given how much they takes from Wizards and Lab Rats. Kirby Buckets is a Mr. Nostalgia show because it’s kind of a spiritual successor to Zeke and Luther in a lot to ways.

That's dedication to do a almost 4 hour video on it. Kickin' It and Zeke and Luther were my favorite two shows to watch on Disney XD growing up, they had some deep topics buried within the humor of these shows.
This show caused me to get a black belt in karate. I also wrote a self insert episode where Jack has a younger sister and she was more popular than him and he was mad.
I always thought it was a mistake to make Bobbi Wasabi fat because I didn't understand the reason why and I still think it was a mistake but now I know why, comedy. Still a mistake.
totally agree, as a kid, his characterization made the whole dojo franchise look like a joke and not like they took karate seriously (which they didn’t really but as a kid i wanted them to) compared to the black dragons for instance.

23:43 in my experience (granted not in martial arts specifically) there is always some parent or somebody taking pictures and videos. Especially for non school related high school aged sports. That’s how you get scouts and stuff to show up and hopefully get to your kid a scholarship.

I loved Kickin It when it was airing, and I rewatched it for the first time last summer and had so much fun doing it. Genuinely the most fun kids show rewatch experience I've had. The first two seasons are so good and funny and have quite a few memorable episodes / plotlines. I also could write a whole essay about how Jack and Kim's relationship was slowly and subtly built up.
Cant wait to see what you have to say about the last two seasons, they're not bad but there's definitely a dip in quality.

I swear, in Disney Leo Howard was literally "Him" incarnate, this dude was everywhere, he plays as crushes, had his own show, was apart of the commercials cus the mfer was popular, a blackbelt who did his own stunts(mostly) on some prepubescent jackie-chan shit and was trained by the mfer that was Johnny in that one Mortal Kombat teaser and the main antagonist from Blood and Bone! This dude Leo was HIM during Disney XD

I’d say that overall it aged fine! Because it was the early 2010s, there were some moments that didn’t, but it was good show.
All I remember from this show is that Kofi Kingston was in it (wrestlers in Disney Shows is something that happened to quite a few Disney Channel/XD shows).
