    Rod Woodson was one of the greatest athletes the NFL world has ever had the pleasure of experiencing, up there with Bo Jackson. Deion was the all-time best cover corner ever but all around Rod Woodson was the most complete corner the NFL has ever seen in my opinion. Woodson could cover, he had great make up speed, some of the best hands, hit & tackled like a linebacker, smart and intelligent a true student of the game, only player in NFL history to go to Pro Bowl as a Cornerback, Safety and Punt Returner and only player to tear an ACL and return to play in same season. He holds the pick 6 record at 12. He was such a delight to watch and I looked forward to catching him on highlights (didn't have Sunday Ticket back then :[ ) He was a true shut down corner, I watched many games where they wouldn't even try throwing to his side other wise he would've owned the all-time pick title. Of all the great Steelers to leave Pittsburgh his was the most painful for me ( Kevin Greene was pretty bad too ) but I'm happy he ended up with a ring, he deserved one!

    If he didn’t leave after ten years he would be hands down the greatest Steeler of all time. The Emperor always used two deep kickoff returners. Teams started kicking to the other guy (Dwight Stone)every time. Woodson had the best long speed and quickness I have ever seen. Those old enough to remember know his first two or three seasons every time he touched a ball in the return game it was an eyelash away from going to the house. Look up how many times he was targeted each season. They are unbelievable numbers. He piled up something like eight picks in seven games this season and teams completely stopped throwing his way or he would have destroyed the all time season record of 12 picks. He literally was so bored out there he would play loose coverage to draw throws to his side.

      I'm sorry but you can't take the throne from Mean Joe. You'd need a couple rings and extreme play to do that.

    • @richstafford1245
      @richstafford1245 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      a b it’s my opinion. Woodson has rings just not with the Steelers. Joe is a Steeler legend no doubt about it. Most important player they ever drafted. He is not in the argument for greatest at his position of all time. Woodson, Sanders and night trane Lane are all in the argument. Nobody that knows football would take Joe over Reggie White or even Deacon Jones.

    Boiler up! My buddy who was a track speedster back in the day (11th in the 100 meter dash in the state of Indiana) had a chance to run against Woodson one time, and Woodson smoked him. I saw Woodson play both ways against IU and block the Hoosiers' game-winning field goal attempt to seal the victory for Purdue. One of the best athletes ever.

    What I could NEVER understand about Rod Woodson is: "YES he was a great player and YES to all of the above about his character! What I DO NOT understand is that he played such a shortened career here (injuries galore) and why so many accolades? He played 10 years here but most of them he was injured! He had 3 or 4 great years the rest weren't so! Team of the Decade or Century (Not sure about what it was called. WHY that one? He was barely playing then! Being compared with GREATS of ALL TIME when he was just a young player a couple years in was crazy!) First shot and into The Hall of Fame as well! I've seen Steeler players that were as good if not better that didn't get that kind of recognition! He must of paid a boatload of money to his PR guys for ALL THAT to happen!

      I'd maybe look back at the numbers... hurt his rookie year and the 1995 year with the knee but other than that he was extremely durable and by the time the 75th anniversary team was announced he was already a 6 time pro bowler and 5 time all pro. I know with all time teams it's subjective and maybe I'm biased being a steeler fan but until from 1991-1997 he was a top 2 cb, which for any position it is very hard to continue that level of play.

    I've been a Steeler fan since I watched Franco's Immaculate Reception in 1972 and I DON'T GIVE A SHIT what anyone else says - Rod Woodson WAS OVERRATED !!! Yeah he had the talent to make alot of incredible plays but he also GOT BURNED ALOT MORE then he made great plays ! Mel Blount was a FAR BETTER cover guy then Woodson could have ever HOPED to have been - Blount was so good that after he intercepted 11 passes [ YES - I SAID 11 !! ] in 1975 the other team just STAYED THE HELL AWAY FROM HIS SIDE OF THE FIELD more often then not !! All the YUPPIE fans of the last 30 years think Woodson was better just because he made some SPLASH PLAYS with his kickoff and punt returns but KNOWLEDGABLE fans KNOW that isn't true .

    LOL Rod Woodson isn't even the greatest Woodson to play defensive back.
    Charles Woodson was the best Woodson to play defensive back for a real football team the Raiders.
