This is the closest the Detroit Lions have been to a Super Bowl.
Super Bowl XVI, 49ers v. Bengals , was played in Detroit, the Silverdome.
I’m a lions fan but I laughed
Justin Kiwi I'm a Jags fan, so I can relate. But...we almost went to the Super Bowl in 2017.
Anthony Mendez I was rooting for y’all that year. I actually, believe it or not, predicted a jags vs saints Super Bowl that year and man I was close.
Justin Kiwi Jacksonville hosted the previous Super Bowl in 2005 which is a shame since they have nice weather there and a renovated stadium. However, Shahid Khan has stated he doesn’t want the stadium to host a future Super Bowl.
As a Seahawks fan, automatic anger lol
Now to be fair, 49 stings more than 40.
AutoRockinRacing94 yes same
I disagree. The Pats earned SB XLIX.
XL feels like we legitimately got screwed.
Yeah 40 stings way worse
AutoRockinRacing94 if i was a seahawks fan this one would hurt more
@@andrewcramer7214 very true we lost superbowl 49 with no ones help but the refs needed to help us lose sb 40
The blocking on the Willie Parker TD is some of the best blocking in SB history

@@gc033 Steelers fans are in every city because a lot of people are bandwagon jumpers
100 more years of the NFL will go by and there will NEVER be an acceptable explanation of why Hasselbeck was called for a personal foul penalty on the Ike Taylor interception.
There were alot of bad calls against both teams
This was one of the worst officiated games I can ever remember seeing. So blatantly against Seattle it was pathetic.
To quote Mike Holgrem, " I knew we were playing the Steelers, I didn't know we were playing the refs as well." Gets fined for stating something obvious though
He wasn't fined for that
ah my bad. i thought he was fined. apologies. but still i wouldnt have been surprised if he was for those remarks
Rigged super bowl my Seahawks should of win
Officiating was bad but if you can find a full tape of this game, watch how terribly coached Seattle was at the end of both halves in terms of clock management and play calling. No excuses for the Suckhawks.

12:02 look at Randle el at the bottom of the screen holy hell
i honestly thought the video sped up for a split second, that was comical as Randle El ran at triple the speed as everyone else
That man had WHEELS
he fast
He looked like Ben Watson in that Denver game a few weeks back at that time.
How did you catch that ! Wow that dude is not human
That stadium was 80% Steelers fans 20% Seahawks fans
When your first SB is in Detroit, it just shows how badly the Seahawks were treated by the NFL from 1977-2003. Absolutely abused.
13:23 damn. This drive by Matt Hasselbeck and the Seahawks was incredible. It could've been known as one of the best drives in super bowl history if not for that holding call at the very end that took away a first-and-goal catch and stunted ALL of the momentum. They would have taken a 17-14 lead if they were able to score a TD. Smh
Game could have ended a lot closer and better than it did. Goddamn it refs.

This year’s super bowl is a close second
Agreed
There were some questionable calls, but if you watch this entire game (not just highlights) - and you genuinely think that Seattle was the better team - you simply do not know what you’re watching.
Pittsburgh dominated this game. There is a reason the Hawks only put up 10 points. It was a bad turnover away from being like 30-3 my dude 😂
The sequence of officiating around the 13 minute mark of this game basically cost Seattle any shot of winning.
- Highly questionable holding call on a completion that would have put Seattle at Pittsburgh's 2 yard line. Forces them to work from 1st and 20.
- A missed horsecollar call on 2nd and 25 that would have given Seattle a first down to extend the drive.
- The Matt Hasselbeck unnecessary roughness call on a play where he made the tackle after a pick.
This sequence alone was horrible and worthy of ridicule, but then you add in the bogus OPI call that wiped Darrell Jackson's TD off the board in the first quarter and the close TD call they gave Ben Roethlisberger and you start to question if they actually did have it out for Seattle in this game. What a painful way to lose.
so basically one bad call and a smear job on the rest
They lost by 11 LOL
@@omars__volta okay?
LOLOL
I want to like this comment a thousand times so everyone can read the ugly the truth about this game.
This was one of the worst games I've ever watched. Some of the worst officiating in NFL history was in display. If anything, refs should try to be lenient on penalties in order to make the Superbowl interesting, not favor the winning team. No class from the players or the refs
There were bad calls both ways though. Look at 5:00. That was a fumble and if the ref does’t blow it dead that would be Steelers ball.
@@anthonyciancio5727 Also missed an Illegal Block in the back at 12:07

Don’t mean to criticize their success, but 2005 Steelers probably had the luckiest SB run in NFL history. Carson Palmer tears his ACL in the WC, The best kicker in the league that year just shanks the game-tying FG after Ben’s lucky shoestring tackle in the divisional, and the bogus flags against Seattle in this game.
Q Sizzle it wasn’t luck, the league manufactured the success because Cowher and Bettis we’re retiring.

Harrisx5 i know you are insecure
PitchOrange yes 6 Lombardi trophies will do that too you
This was a Steelers home game with all those terrible towels twirling in the stadium. It was 80% Steeler fans and only 20% Seahawk fans. You just had a feeling that when the Steelers took the field to their song “Right Here Right Now” by Fatboy Slim you just knew they weren’t gonna lose. Yes you can blame the officiating and all those bad calls all you want but you just had that feeling in that stadium with Jerome Bettis playing his final career game in his hometown that the Steelers were gonna win. And a classy move by the Steelers to allow Jerome to run on the field first during team intros. That was great to see. And I was happy to see Bill Cowher win that Lombardi and hand it over to the late Dan Rooney at the end. That was a class move by a class act like Cowher. Had a lot of respect for him.
1:50, this happens nowadays, and all hell breaks loose
Evan Trevino that would have been called now for sure, but most of the time people go crazy when the hit is to the head and knocks the QB out.
13:29 here is another one
Congrats on your bogus super bowl. What a sham of a game. I'm glad Seahawks fans finally got one in 2013. Also, mike Holmgren deserves to be in the hall of fame if Bill Cowher does.
And that's how the Legendary number 7 won his first SUPER BOWL CHAMPIONSHIP RING.
NFL referee Bill Leavy, 8/6/2010
The veteran official began an annual training-camp rules interpretation session with the Seattle media after practice on Friday by bringing up the subject without being asked.
"It was a tough thing for me. I kicked two calls in the fourth quarter and I impacted the game, and as an official you never want to do that," said the veteran of 15 NFL seasons and two Super Bowls.
"It left me with a lot of sleepless nights, and I think about it constantly," Leavy said of the February 2006 game. "I'll go to my grave wishing that I'd been better."
He's still a PoS. F him.

That game is the biggest sham ever graced with the name “Super Bowl”. If Seattle gets that win, Mike Holmgren (Seattle Coach) is in the HOF. Maybe Shaun Alexander is in. Point is, this game is a fraud. One of the worst Super Bowls ever.
Trace Chmielewski holmgren is a hof candidate this year
But look at 5:00! That’s a fumble and the ref blows it dead and if he doesn’t that’s Steelers ball. The only bad call for the Seahawks was on that run back.

Same with the no-call on the horse collar at 14:50. Huge changes of momentum if they're calling the game consistently (ie: the OPI in the endzone or that phantom hold).
The refs took two touchdowns off the board with bogus calls that's pathetic
The title of “Legendary Coach Finally Climbs The Mountain” should’ve gone to the recent events of the 2024 CFP National Championship, as this should’ve had the title of the worst officiating in NFL history.
The refs really fucked over the Seahawks in this one.

WWE matches are more legit than Super Bowl 40.
I have this game in widescreen HD (because the nfl rebroadcasted it in that quality), what’s the excuse for this?
Every time an official NFL channel shows clips from this game, I can't believe it's the 4x3 standard def copy while other youtube channels seem to have the full 16x9 picture.
Can you send your footage to the NFL? Maybe the person(s) who works on this channel doesn't have direct access to their vaults and has to deal with whatever the staff sends up.

This game still gets me mad to this day. I can't believe the refs did them dirty.
This brings me back to when I was in the 6th grade, wasn’t a fan of either team but I remember everyone wearing their Steelers jerseys to school and all.

Don't get me wrong, there were some questionable calls that went against the Seahawks, but they had plenty of opportunities to make up for it and they didn't take advantage of those opportunities, they lost it fair and square if you ask me
Mark Robertson no it was just that the refs were ass

This game was the biggest ref screw job ever. The Seahawks had this game stolen from them. Every single call went against them.
I came back just to see this atrocity. The ref’s been fucking off games

What bad calls! Yes but Matt Hasselbeck thing with the stupidest guy ever seen but that’s it.
That is a push off.
Ben Roethlisberger is clearly in the end zone.
That is holding.
And the Steelers forced a fumble but the refs blew it dead at 5:00
The correct answer is both. The steelers are a made and protected franchise who have always got those kind of calls in their favor. The Patriots can't even compete when it comes to that. And Cowher doesn't in any way, at all, in your wildest fever dreams of reality, belong in the HoF.

Illegal block below the waist thrown against a quarterback trying to make a tackle on his own interception. Ok, refs.
I remember looking forward to this match up soooo much. Too bad the refs got in the way. I really hope something like this never happens again. (That being said, it's not the Steelers fault the game was wrecked by officiating. The Steelers may have won either way. Unfortunately we'll never know.)
The first ever super bowl I watched, and it happened to fall on my birthday
I said it 14 years ago, and I'll say it again. Ben Roethlesbergers "touchdown" never crossed the plane. I just rewatched this after 10 years since the last time and my view is unchanged. Does that mean the Hawks deserved to win this one? Maybe not but that touchdown took a lot of momentum away from us.
Bettis gets in on 4th down. Cowher success rate that year with Bettis on 4th and short was league best. at worst a field goal and they lose by touchdown
@@CAM846 Where did you find that stat? Im pretty sure Barber and Alexander led the league on 4th down conversions. Not to mention the fact that the Stealers ranked 12th in 4th down conversions in 2005. Hawks ranked 1st.
But all that is besides the point because what does a call like that do to the team’s morale? Anyone with eyes saw that ball never broke the plane. And the pattern of bad calls continued to berate the Hawks the entire game.
@@CAM846 Source: trust me bro
They had many opportunities. Hawks should have been up by at least two scores in first half, TE dropping TDS and kicker missing FG. I know u a Seattle fan but yeah trust me Bettis or Big Ben get that one yard on fourth down
That's funny.
For as bad as the low block call was, what really cost the Seahawks the game was going 1 for 3 in the redzone and missing 2 field goals.
Big Ben doesn't badly underthrow Cedric Wilson and it's a 28-10 blowout.
Must of been and the 2004 Steelers were wayyy better than 2005 imo
I'm a Steelers fan, but the Seahawks got shafted big time in this game. Seahawks fans anger is warranted and then to add insult to injury they got shafted by your own coach 9 years later. Thank god they at least won one.

im more pissed about this game than i am about super bowl 49
Bro , this was horrific officiating . This is my first time seeing this game . Definitely not a good look for the refs in this one.
Tbh Seattle could be 3/3 for Super Bowls
Everybody knows Rothlesburger was short on that dive to the end zone.
He wasn’t though. The ball crossed the goal line on the initial dive attempt
Not everybody, only 8.
Every Seahawks fan thinks Big Ben crossed the plane after he was down, but he crossed the plane in the air before he was touched.
There's two possible outcomes on that play, 1 (the most likely). Ben broke the plane as he was shoulder deep into the endzone when contact was made, or 2. the defender dislodges the ball a millimeter before Ben crosses, causing a fumble, and he doesn't have full control until it's back over the line. Both result in a TD.
Steelers were a better team. Refs didn't win them the game, the Seahawks lost the game. period.
I said this was rigged, and I was 11 at the time. Seahawks definitely should have won.
